Warehouse forklifts are often powered by batteries. By using a test bench where the forklift can be driven in a certain driving-cycle, the battery capacity can be tested. To obtain the same speed curve on the test bench as a forklift obtains when driving on a real road, the test bench must be able to simulate road load. In this master’s thesis, a test bench is modelled in Simulink using grey-box modelling and validated with measured data. Also, a speed regulator is developed and implemented in the test bench model to simulate road load. Simulations with the model and the speed regulator show h

Abstract:
The use of auger cast-in-place (ACIP) pilings is very common in Florida; however, there is a significant degree of uncertainty in determining the actual capacity of the pilings, especially when the pilings are installed through layers of cohesive soils. Therefore, there is a need to improve upon the existing methods of predicting the behavior of ACIP piles in layered soils. As a result, the primary objective of this study is to determine if a significant difference exists between the accepted methods of pile load test analysis. Provided a significant difference is noted, the secondary objectiv

Barnard, Hendrik Francois Taljaard. "The effect of bedding errors on the accuracy of plate load tests." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/40828.

Abstract:
A series of plate load tests were conducted at the experimental farm of the University of Pretoria. The test areas were levelled by means of three surface preparation methods namely, i) a thin layer of plaster of Paris; ii) a thin layer of well-graded sand and iii) by using only hand tools. In addition, a modified plate load test was designed to eliminate the effect of bedding errors that occur during these tests. Telescopic probes were used to measure the relative displacement at two points below the centre of the plate. The main objective of this research project was to first quantify

Abstract:
Flight and drop tests of the Martin 270 (M270) seaplane were conducted in 1955. Theoretical and empirical pressures were determined by use of Wagner’s theory and also by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The pressure results from the experimental tests on the hull were compared with pressures calculated from Wagner’s theory to determine how well the theory correlated with the measured pressures. The experimental pressure data was also compared with the CFR results to determine how the current industry standard of estimating impact loads compares with actual pressures a seaplane is subject

Abstract:
Clinical laboratory test results are integral to patient management. Important aspects of laboratory tests’ contributions are the use of the test information and the role they have in facilitating efficient and effective use of healthcare resources. Methods of measuring those contributions were examined using quantitative HCV RNA test results (HCV VL) in therapeutic management decisions as a model. Test precision is important in those decisions; therefore, the clinical use was evaluated by studying the impact that knowledge of inherent assay imprecision had on clinicians’ decisions. A survey d
