Abstract:
This dissertation reports the results of tests on the weak-form market efficiency applied to six European market indexes (France, Germany, UK, Greece, Portugal and Spain) from January 2007 to January 2012. For this matter we use a serial correlation test, a runs test, an augmented Dickey-Fuller test and the multiple variance ratio test. In addition we also analyze if it would be possible to forecast the PSI-20 returns resorting data mining, more specifically using k-NN and Neural Network. Our findings show that from January 1997 to September 2008 France, Germany and Spain meet most of the criteria for the weak-form market efficiency hypothesis, a situation that occurs afterwards for all six European market indexes from September 2008 to January 2012. Regarding the forecast of PSI-20 returns we designed a strategy based on the forecast of k-NN and Neural Network and concluded that by implementing it we would obtain relevant higher returns than the ones achieved by a buy-and-hold strategy, which compromises the weak-form market efficiency.

Thesis, Linnéuniversitetet, Institutionen för maskinteknik (MT), 2018. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:lnu:diva-77740.

Abstract:
Simplifications regarding calculations of fatigue life due to vibrational loading is based on weakly stationarity assumptions which is a time independent method. The hypothesis was based on the uncertainty of these assumptions. The aim of this study was to examine whether the analysed data fulfilled the assumptions of weakly stationarity. It was determined that the assumption was not valid for most signals and a comparison of time dependent methods should be performed to evaluate the difference compared with the time independent method. Two time dependent methods were constructed and implemented on the signals based on the results of performed stationarity tests. The result determined that a decrease in fatigue life of an investigated weld might occur for the two time dependent methods compared with the time independent method. The method which was considered to produce the most accurate results was also the most constrained as to the amount of data that fulfilled its requirements. A conclusion was drawn that signals containing more data was necessary to achieve conclusive results of the fatigue life. The hypothesis was proven to be mostly true since most of the analysed signals were found to be piecewise weakly stationary.

The goal of my thesis is to verify the weak form of the efficiency of the exchange market. The paper results from the presumptions for efficient price movements on the financial markets. They are applied to the time series of exchange rates of five currency pairs. After definitions of testing methodology, the given exchange rates series are analysed with the help of correlation and autocorrelation test, runs test and a test based on technical analysis. The conclusion of the thesis anwers the question if the exchange rates movements are suitable with the efficient market hypothesis.

Abstract:
Background: Several field-based team sports contain repeated, maximal effort sprints with varying rest lengths in between. This puts high demands on athletes’ metabolic and neuromuscular systems. Testing the anaerobic capacity of athletes is essential to improve and evaluate the progression. One test being utilised for assessing anaerobic capacity is the 300-yard shuttle run test. The test is field-based with stopwatches as the sole equipment. However, the test has not been properly tested for reliability.   Aim: The aim of this bachelor thesis was therefore to investigate the reliability of the 300-yard shuttle run test. Methods: The study was performed with a test-retest method and included a familiarisation meeting, test session and retest session.  Test subjects performed the 300-yard shuttle run test at two different occasions with seven or fourteen days in between. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and 95% confidence interval (CI) was utilised to quantify the reliability. An ICC>0.8 was considered acceptable. Results: 17 American football players participated in the study (median age 20, min. =18, max. =38 y; median weight 83, min. =67, max. =133 kg; median height 184, min. =169, max. =194 cm). The ICC for the test-retest was 0.97 (95% CI  0.91-0.99). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study 300-yard shuttle test is proposed as a test providing reliable results.

Abstract:
This thesis contributes to the study of the electromagnetic calorimeter performances and to the clarification of its role in the selection of mu-e elastic scattering events for the MUonE experiment.Together with the tracking system, the calorimeter constitutes the prototype detector for 2021 the Test Run(TR).One of the main proposals of this thesis is the development of the fast simulation for the calorimeter response, in the working condition expected in the TR.Given a generated set of NLO events, consisting in high energy muons scattering on electrons at rest with prefixed kinematical conditions, it has been developed the procedure which generalizes kinematical scattering conditions considering the kinematical properties of the beam:its angular divergence and its spatial profile (beam spot).NLO events include the case of one real photon radiation. It has been simulated the propagation of particles across light targets and tracking stations, considering the deflection given by MCS, until particles have reached the calorimeter face. Its response has been simulated by means of a fast simulation that has been developed relying on an existing parametrization(GFLASH) also used by CMS.The simulation code has been validated successfully, comparing the results with the expected ones, published by the authors of the model. Thus, it has been studied the distribution of the energy released by particles in the calorimeter cells. The two simulation codes (for the propagation and for the calorimeter response) were unified in a single algorithm, through which a complete study of the events topology expected in the TR was carried out. This tool enabled to identify selection criteria for elastic events within the full NLO set.Three different criteria were proposed which seem to identify efficiently the interesting events. Selections are mainly based on calorimetric information. The thesis clarifies, at least in part, the precious role that this detector may have in the final experiment.

Abstract:
This work focuses on the Czech stock market. Work is focused on the application of the theory of efficient markets, which is one of the theories explaining the evolution of prices of securities, the stock market in the Czech Republic from 2000 to 2008. Efficient market theory represents a random walk, which is used as a tool to describe the phenomenon where the future price changes are random divergence from past prices. The thesis is divided into several parts. The first part presents an actual stock market in the Czech Republic. Because most of the work deals with the analysis yields the PX stock index was that in the next section in detail described and analyzed. Furthermore, the Czech stock market has been analyzed in terms of structure and trading volume. The next section has described the theory of efficient markets. Was described briefly the history of this theory. Another part of this work can be described as a purely practical. First, the work focuses on the market in the one year time series of returns. In second part were analyzed medium-long term consisting of three year time series of returns. The last analyzed period was long term, consisting of eight-year time series of returns from 2000 to 2008.

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 27-30, 1997 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada
This paper analyzes the bit error rates (BER) using data recorded during an F-16 test at Edwards Air Force Base in September, 1996. The effects of multipath fading on BER are presented. It is shown that significant increases in BER can occur when the received signal power remains at an acceptable level. Recordings of the received power spectrum during the test show that these BER increases are caused by frequency selective fades due to multipath interference. This paper illustrates that in these cases, significant data degradation can occur without drops in the received signal power.

Abstract:

Regression testing plays an important role during the software development life-cycle,especially during maintenance, it provides confidence that the modified parts of softwarebehave as intended and the unchanged parts have no affect by the modification. Regressiontest selection is used to select test cases from the test suites which have been used to test theprevious version of the software. In this thesis, we extend the traditional definition of a testcase with a log file, containing information of which events that occurred when the test casewas last executed. Based on the contents of this log file, we propose a method of regressiontest selection for multi-tasking real-time systems, able to determine which parts of softwarethat have not been affected by the modification. Therefore, the test cases designed for theunchanged parts do not need to be re-tested.

Abstract:
AbstractThe setup of Symbiotic 8 for Test-Comp 2021 brings radical changes in the test generation for property. Similarly as in Symbiotic 7, we generate tests by running our fork of symbolic executor Klee on the analyzed program. Symbiotic 8, however, runs several instances of Klee in parallel. We run one instance of Klee on the original program and, simultaneously, we create one (intentionally unsound) program slice for every program-terminating instruction in the program and run Klee on these slices. Apart from this principal change, we also improved other components of the tool, mainly the program slicer. Further, our fork of Klee now supports symbolic pointer arithmetics and comparison of symbolic addresses.

In all methods of balancing flexible rotors currently in use, test masses and test runs are required for the calculation of correction masses. In this paper, a method of identifying the unbalances is derived by main-shaft-section transfer matrix, which is based on the measured responses of the rotor. So, the unbalance can be identified without test runs.

Abstract:
The proving test of a large-scale piping system with a piping bore of 200A (8B) and made from carbon steel material was conducted to assure the safety margin of the current and new design codes for piping. Two test models were used, one for the design method confirmation test and one for the ultimate strength test. The design method confirmation test model reflected the structural features and vibration characteristics of piping systems. For the ultimate strength test, the piping system was modified by adding one more mass and removing one horizontal support. The original seismic wave to the input seismic wave was selected to be the “S2” seismic wave for a PWR building. The time-pitch and the excitation level were then modified to meet the test conditions. For the ultimate strength test, a series of tests was initiated at a pseudo-elastic design stress level of about 9 times the current allowable primary stress limit (3Sm) for the “S2” seismic wave, and repeated until the occurrence of piping failure due to through-wall fatigue cracking was obtained during Run 5 of seismic shaking. Pre-test and post-test analyses were performed. The post-test analysis results, which assessed certain differences of actual input acceleration, damping ratio, mass distribution and fatigue damage, compare well with the ultimate strength test results of elasto-plastic global response, local strain and the number of runs to piping failure.

Abstract:
Abstract Land-based power units have to fulfill even more high levels of production and reliability. In harsh environments (desert and tropical installations, typically), the power unit ingests high amounts of dust that might deposit inside the compressor. In this paper, the analysis of a multistage compressor performance that operates under sandy and humid conditions has been assessed. The compressor units, that equips the Allison 250 C18 compressor, has been subjected to multiple runs under severe conditions of soil dust ingestion. The compressor has been operated according to subsequent runs and at the end of each run, the performance curve was recorded and the performance losses, in terms of pressure ratio, have been measured during the operations. The characteristic curve of each run is representative of the level of contamination of the unit. Finally, the compressor has been washed and the performance curve, in the recovered conditions, has been recorded. The results show the modification and the downward shift of the characteristic curves which lead to a gradual loss of the compressor performance. The curves realized after dust ingestion have been compared with the recovered curve after online washing. The measurement shows a promising recovery of the performances, even if, the compressor flow path appears affected by localized deposits able to resist to the droplet removal action. Detailed photographic reports of the IGV and the first compressor stages have been included in this analysis. After each run, the IGV, the rotor blade and stator vane of the first stage and the hub and the shroud surfaces have been photographed. The pictures show the deposition patterns on the blades and the compressor surfaces. The comparison of the pictures of the internal surfaces, before and after the washing, highlights the parts that are more critical to clean and needy of attention during offline washing and overhaul.

Abstract:
In its Gas Turbine Development and Manufacturing Center in Berlin Siemens runs a test bed for gas turbine prototypes. Since the end of 1998, the new model V84.3A gas turbine has been undergoing tests at this facility. One focus of last year’s tests was on flow field measurements with pneumatic probes in the exit flow duct of the turbine at various load levels to characterize the flow in the diffuser and provide a data base. Another item was the further investigation of the compressor surge margin and the validation of a newly-developed on-line surge prediction system.
