Full textImmigrants' children show psychological difficulties when they start to learning to read. These difficulties are related to the notion of splitting in the ways of thinking. This splitting is revealed for example in the "figure de rey" testy and also in the "fables de duss" test. In order to resolve these difficulties, sessions, in mother tongue, with parents, children, psycho-pedagogical staff and "ethnoclinical mediator" have been experienced. This sitting anables to understand and to stop the school failure

Full textThe packaging and thermal management of electronic equipment has become an important issue because of increased power levels and the simultaneolls miniaturization of the devices. This thesis work is devoted to the cooling of electronic substrates, stacked il1 a 3D module, and to the integration of thermal functions, such as flat heat pipes, in these substrates. This research study in concentrated more particularly on the design, the fabrication and the experimental evaluation of miniature very thin metal heat pipes. Experimental and modelling results showed that the studied heat pipes eliminate hot spots and spread the heat dissipated from the components in a very efficient way. New fabrication techniques of flat heat pipes with sintered capillary wicks have been developed. This thesis work allows showing that the integration of heat pipes in very thin electronic substrates is possible and very interesting solution for the thermal management of electronics devices particularly for avionics applications

Full textThe literature reports relatively few studies that focused on Speech-Language pathologists’ (SLPs) interventions in natural context. Most of the studies explored the clinical effectiveness of intervention strategies with children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) by assessing language outcomes (e.g. the acquisition of a particular form or structure, improvements on particular language measures) both studying particular features (e.g. recast, imitation, model, etc) or entire clinical methods and programs (e.g. metalinguistic approach, parental guidance, etc.). However, to better understand the processes underlying children’s development, it is necessary to analyse in detail what happens during SLP sessions at an interactional level and focus on the emergence of practices during Speech-language pathologist- child interactions. The aim of the present study was to better understand how clinical interventions support the language development of child with SLI during interactions. In line with Vygotski (1936/1997) or Bruner (1983a), we adopted a socio-interactionist approach/perspective.This study observed four school-aged children with SLI interacting with their SLP during clinical sessions. The dyads were followed-up for seven months. At the beginning and the end of the observation period, children’s linguistic, discursive and interactional abilities were assessed through standardized language tests and through the analysis of mother-child interactions. The results showed that SLPs enrolled the children in activities focusing on various aspects of language. Their practices were part of the dialogical dynamic and were strongly influenced by the accomplishment of the task (by children). In addition, the effectiveness of these practices was proven by the fact that children achieved, supported by the SLP, tasks that they were not able to accomplish by themselves. Our analyses also highlighted common professional gestures, such as discursive strategies, among all the SLP who participated in the study, showing that they belong to a community of practice

Full textFooteval test is an intermittent test that includes technical skills which aim to assess players’ level globally. Its validity and reliability have been demonstrated in this document. Our work highlighted that design of the test and technical skills inclusion lead to performance’s determinant repartition as follow: 33% on aerobic potential (VO2max), 21% in plyometric skills on lower limb, 36% on parameters related to technical abilities. We observed sensibility to global training, but this test is differently sensible to training modalities. Footeval test provides best sensibility to training with ball as “small side game” training, versus “generic” training. This sensibility is also highly related to football player ranking contrary to traditional test as Vam-Eval or basic sprints tests. Those findings allow concluding that Footeval is a highly specific test to football practice and appear relevant for scouting process. This test with its specificity and sensitivity is fully in line with current training trend based on integrated training

Full textSpatio-temporal gene transcriptional regulation is essential to establish and maintain cell identity. Impairment of the molecular mechanisms involved in this regulation could lead to diseases like cancer. Testis/Placenta specific genes (TS/PS) are found to be expressed in cancer while their expression is normally restricted in testis and placenta. Overexpression of TS/PS in cancer is correlated to bad prognosis and some of these genes are known to be oncogenes. Moreover these genes could induce immune responses when they are expressed in cancer making them good candidates for therapeutic targets. In this thesis, we set up two genetic screens, which allow us to identify three new actors involved in the transcriptional regulation of the TS/PS gene ADAM12. This metalloprotease which is overexpressed in many tumors is involved in cell migration and invasion of cancer cells. Our study showed that the kinase TAK1 (MAP3K7) and the chromatin remodelers KAT2A and SIRT6 are involved in the regulation of ADAM12 expression. We went further and dissect the molecular mechanisms involved in this regulation and we discovered a link between the acetyltransferase KAT2A and TAK1 signaling pathway. These results allow us to propose TAK1 and KAT2A as potential therapeutic targets in high-ADAM12 expressing tumors and/or in tumors with TAK1 mutations

Full textThe objective of this thesis was (i) to assess metabolic constraints in slalom (SL) and giant slalom (GS) during short and long effort according to extrem contemporary races duration ; (ii) to clarify motor skills (box bouncing, sliding, running, cycling, trampoline lateral bouncing) energetically specificity to alpine ski racing. Regardless of GS length the aerobic system was the primary energy system involved. Aerobic and glycolytic energy system contribution were not different in SL. Furthermore running and cycling were most unspecific motor skills investigated regarding SL and GS. On the other hand box bouncing and trampoline lateral bouncing presented interesting physiological specificities. Moreover no significant difference in aerobic and glycolytic energy system contribution, total energy output, glycolytic energy output, aerobic energy output, phosphagen energy output, [La]peak, Δ[La] were observed between sliding and both GS and SL. Subsequently the aim of the third study was to determine the test-retest reliability of a 80s test involving sliding motror skills. The 80s-slide-test is a specific and reliable test. Indeed the 80s-slide-test showed large reliability for total push-offs number, V̇ O2peak, V̇ O2moy, FCpeak and FCmoy. Hence 80s-slide-test is a relevant alternative to lab unspecific test for alpine ski racers. Finally the aim of the fourth study was to analyse pacing strategy in long GS. Alpine ski racer may run pacing strategy skiing decreasing intensity during section 1 (first 52s) and during section 2 (last 29s) in long GS (81s)

Full textThe aim of the study is to test the accuracy of two versions of a specific soccer field test for assessing Maximal Aerobic Velocity (MAV). The original Probst field test consists in repetition of 280 m successive races including changes in direction separated by a 30s rest with an initial speed of 8. 4 km/h and a 0. 6 km/h increment at each stage. The adapted version is carried out with the same protocol but constant stages of 2 min length and a 1. 2 km/h increment at each stage. The first study demonstrates that the original version of the Probst field test overestimates significantly the maximal aerobic velocity in soccer players, but not in athletes of medium-distance race, in comparison with two classical tests, with an aligned version and with the same protocol that that of the test of Probst in laboratory. The second study confirms this overestimation and demonstrates that our adapted version is much closed and highly correlated with a maximal aerobic velocity obtained by a laboratory treadmill test in soccer players. In conclusion, our adapted version of the Probst test but not the original version appears as a reliable specific soccer field test and easily conductible for estimate the maximal aerobic velocity in soccer players

Full textEach human cell contains a genome carrying all the genetic information necessary for the constitution of the whole organism. However, differentiated cells express only a restricted repertoire of genes. The control of gene expressions is fundamental for the establishment and maintenance of cell identity. The first level of gene expression regulation, the transcriptional control, is based on the integrity of the gene sequence but also on its accessibility, itself dependent on a set of epigenetic mechanisms that control chromatin dynamics. In a pathological context, genetic and epigenetic alterations can lead to gene deregulations and altered cellular functions. During the bronchial carcinogenesis, lung cancer cells acquire a capacity of uncontrolled proliferation and an increased resistance to cell death. These phenotypic characteristics, favoring tumor growth, result from abnormalities that accumulate in the genome of cancer cells. These are somatic genetic alterations, from point mutations to large-scale chromosomal rearrangements, but also a global disruption of the epigenetic landscape – both leading to an identity crisis and to gene deregulations. While the phenomenon of aberrant gene repression (including repression of tumor suppressor genes) has been extensively studied, ectopic activation of normally silent genes remains poorly understood. Our hypothesis is that the “out of context” expression of tissue-specific genes not only could be involved in carcinogenesis, but could also be of high interest as tumor biomarkers or novel therapeutic targets. In this work, we focused on the prolactin-encoding PRL gene, normally mainly expressed in the pituitary gland and absent from non-tumor lung. We detected an ectopic PRL gene activation in 10% of lung tumors, mainly neuroendocrine tumors. We observed that PRL expression is associated with aggressive tumors and a poor prognosis for patients. We also found that the expression of PRL is associated with an increased resistance of lung cancer cells to a genotoxic stress. Unexpectedly, our data suggest that the oncogenic action of PRL expression is not based on the conventional mechanisms of prolactin action, and we did not confirm the initial hypothesis of a secretion by lung cancer cells of the prolactin hormone, and its action in an autocrine/paracrine loop within the tumor through the activation of the prolactin receptor. Indeed, the receptor is absent in lung cancer cells and the transcribed PRL mRNA is missing its first exons, possibly leading to the production of a truncated prolactin protein, without a functional signal peptide, therefore unable to follow the classical secretion pathway and retained inside the cancer cell. Although the detailed mechanisms of prolactin action in lung cancer remain to be deciphered, our study suggests that the ectopic expression of PRL could be used as a new therapeutic target in the treatment of aggressive lung tumors. This work, also including additional results on three testis-specific genes aberrantly expressed in lung tumors (BRDT, SOX30 and SPATA22) highlights the interest of studying ectopic gene expressions in tumor cells, which can provide new diagnosis and prognosis tools for clinicians as well as new targeted approaches that could be used in addition to conventional lung cancer therapies, which are presently insufficient to limit the high mortality due to lung neoplasms

Full textThis work is in the field of reliability estimation of microelectronics assemblies. We study their thermomechanical behaviour with simple analytical and comparative method but also with FEM simulations. These tools are used from the design step to evaluate the criticality of the assemblies considering solder joint failures. We evaluate the lifetime of assemblies using an experimental test and a degradation law model of the alloy of the solder joint. This model consists of an analytical expression deduced from experimental results and of a FEM simulation. The effect of the deviation of technological parameters on the lifetime distribution is studied from this model. Finally, the design and the use of full custom integrated circuits dedicated to measure, in situ, stress induced by the moulding compound, is described

Full textSpecific language impairment (SLI) or developmental dysphasia is not much studied in psychopathological psychodynamic approach, whereas it is the subject of many publications in neuropsychology. The meeting with children with specific language impairment in a Hospital Language Center fed from the questionings in particular relating to the articulation with psychic organization of the personality and the treatments to propose. This research task proposes to study psychic process in French-speaking children with SLI, aged 6 to 11. The central assumption is the transnosographical aspect of specific language impairment in the field of infantile psychopathology, in spite of the criteria of exclusion establish by French and international classifications. Our other assumptions rise from the review of the literature (neuropsychology, psycholinguistics and psychoanalysis) on language emergence and development. Thus, we sought to highlight which the developmental dysphasia (or SLI) results from introjections process failure and transitional symbolizations failure. To this end, each child underwent three projective tests: Rorschach, C. A. T/T. A. T and Scéno-test, analysed in a psychodynamic perspective, in order to clarify the problems and defensive mechanisms, by releasing at the same time the common features and the more singular aspects. Several cases studies will illustrate the clinical projective contributions to the study of psychic process of children with specific language impairment

Full textMobile applications have increased substantially in volume with the emergence ofsmartphones. Ensuring high quality and successful user experience is crucial to the successof such applications. Only an efficient test procedure allows developers to meet these requirements. In the context of embedded mobile applications, the test is costly and repetitive. This is mainly due to the large number of different mobile devices. In this thesis, we describe MATeL, a Domain-Specific Modeling Language (DSML) for designing test scenarios for mobile applications. Its abstract syntax, i.e. a meta model and OCL constraints, enables the test designer to manipulate mobile applications testing concepts such as tester, mobile or outcomes and results. It also enables him/her to enrich these scenarios with variability points in the spirit of Software Product-Line engineering, that can specify variations in the test according to the characteristics of one mobile or a set of mobiles. The concrete syntax of MATeL that is inspired from UML sequence diagrams and its environment based on Eclipse allow the user to easily develop scenarios. MATeL is built upon an industrial platform (a test bed) in order to be able to run scenarios on several different phones. The approach is illustrated in this thesis through use cases and experiments that led to verify and validate our contribution

Full textThis work presents the implementation of an experimental procedure to evaluate the failure mechanisms of submicron Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor on InP substrate. This procedure presents 3 steps: activation, detection and localization of the failure mechanisms. The accelerated aging tests have been used to active the failure mechanisms on hexagonal shape HBTs with InGaAs or GaAsSb base together with TLM. Due to the electrical analysis through the compact modelling, we established the first hypothesis about the origin of the failure mechanisms. For example, on InGaAs HBT, the failure mechanisms observed are located:- At the emitter sidewall. This mechanism leads to the increase of the base current for VBE<0.6 V- At the base-emitter junction leading to the increase of base and collector current for VBE>0,6 V and 0.20.8 V.These hypotheses were validated by 2D physical simulation using TCAD Sentaurus. The same electrical signatures of the failure mechanisms are observed in literature

Full textTobacco smoke contains several carcinogens that lead to the frequent formation of rare DNA damage in lungs of smokers. 4-(Methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) is one of these substances that seems more particularly associated with the development of adenocarcinoma. During the last 30 years, the frequency of this lung cancer type has increased significantly. In lung cells, cytochromes P450 can bioactivate NNK into reactive species capable of either methylating or pyridyloxobutylating DNA. The use of analogs capable of generating only one type of NNK-associated reactive species allows to investigate methylation and pyridyloxobutylation separately. The comet assay is a simple and sensitive technique that is commonly used to investigate low frequency DNA damage at the cellular level. The work presented here show how some of the NNK-related DNA damage can be investigated specifically with this technique at damage frequencies that are relevant to a real exposure to cigarette smoke. One of the adduct type resulting of DNA pyridyloxobutylation that we studied here had never been demonstrated before. It corresponds likely to the formamidopyrimidine (fapy) form of a lesion primarily formed in cells. The repair rate of a damage type influences the probability that it has to be implicated in mutagenesis. The time course of different damage types was documented with the comet assay in order to investigate the repair of NNK-related damage in different cell types that can either bioactivate NNK or not. When the fapy adducts associated with pyridyloxobutylation were investigated post-treatment, their time course did not depend on the cell type but showed a p53-dependant phenotype. In fact, instead of decreasing because of repair, the frequency of these fapy adducts in fibroblasts first increased post-treatment and this increase seemed associated with p53 proficiency. The cause of this phenotype is not clearly elucidated but it should be related to DNA damage repair.

Full textHymenoptera venom immunotherapy (VIT) is a treatment that prevents sting inducing anaphylaxis in allergic patient. Fast-up dosing schedule are often used at the initial phase of VIT. This fast dosing schedule well tolerated, but the mechanisms behind this good tolerance have not yet been elucidated, as well as its consequences on the rest of the immune systems. The aim of this study is to describe early immune system change during initial phase of VIT We included 29 patients undergoing VIT by 3h30 ultra-rush up dosing phase. Blood puncture was performed before the beginning of the treatment, at 1h30 and just before the last venom injection. Blood tryptase evolution was measured. Basophils phenotype and FcεRI surface expression were analyzed by flow cytometry at each step of the ultra-rush. To assess basophils responsiveness evolution, basophils activation test (BAT) was also perform. Myeloid and T lymphocytes population’s evolution were analyzed by flow cytometry. We have shown a significantly lower concentration of blood tryptase at the end of ultra-rush, and a significantly lower basophils activation and FcεRI expression. Surprisingly, BAT has shown a significantly higher in vitro response to venom extract at the end of ultra-rush. We also found significantly increase in blood dendritic cells concentration and lower blood Natural Killer (NK) Cells. We observed higher lymphocytes population in blood except for naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. In conclusion, ultra-rush fast up dosing is well tolerated thanks to a basophils inhibition involving lower FcεRI surface expression. Ultra-rush also leads to early change in innate and adaptive immune response

Full textOur thesis consists in explaining, by bringing some theoretical elements, the imperfections of EBA / BCE macro-prudential stress tests, and proposing a new methodology of their application as well as two specific stress tests in addition. We show that macro-prudential stress tests may be irrelevant when the two basic assumptions of the Gordy-Vasicek core model used to assess banks regulatory capital in internal methods (IRB) in the context of credit risk (asymptotically granular credit portfolio and presence of a single source of systematic risk which is the macroeconomic conjuncture), are not respected. Firstly, they exist concentrated portfolios for which macro-stress tests are not sufficient to measure potential losses or even ineffective in the case where these portfolios involve non-cyclical counterparties. Secondly, systematic risk can come from several sources; the actual one-factor model doesn’t allow a proper repercussion of the “macro” shocks. We propose a specific credit stress test which makes possible to apprehend the specific credit risk of a concentrated portfolio, as well as a specific liquidity stress test which makes possible to measure the impact of liquidity shocks on the bank’s solvency. We also propose a multifactorial generalization of the regulatory capital valuation model in IRB, which allows applying macro-stress tests shocks on each sectorial portfolio, stressing in a clear, precise and transparent way the systematic risk factors impacting it. This methodology allows a proper impact of these shocks on the conditional probability of default of the counterparties of these portfolios and therefore a better evaluation of the capital charge of the bank

Full textThe evolution and increasing use of mobile communications systems was associated with laboratory investigations to study radiofrequency electromagnetic waves exposure safety. In this context, this thesis focuses on the characterization of exposure systems allowinglaboratory in vitro studies on cell models. A dual numerical and experimental approach is implemented to perform the devices dosimetry allowing to determine and control the exposure levels. One of the limitations associated with this dosimetry is due to the micrometric dimensions involved. Therefore, a microscopy technique based on a temperature-dependent fluorescent dye named Rhodamine B was set up and evaluated. This assessment recommends an optimal concentration of the dye at around 50 μM. After calibration, it is possible to estimate the specific absorption rate (SAR) from the temperature variation, even for low levels of SAR (< W / kg) with a spatial resolution of less than ten micrometers i.e. microdosimetry. The two main exposure systems studied, based on microelectrode arrays (MEA), allow the recording of neurons electrophysiological activity. Exposure to electromagnetic waves is achieved simultaneously by inserting these MEAs into TEM cells exposure systems. Dosimetry carried out at 1.8 GHz shows a higher sensitivity of one MEA to its environment. It was shown that the modifications made to the second MEA such as its aperture size and ground planes, have reduced the proximity environment influence. The microdosimetry demonstrated good homogeneity of the SAR between the electrodes with an estimated value of 7 ± 1 W / kgfor 1 W incident power. Finally, a microfluidic exposure device based on a coplanar waveguide was characterized under static conditions

Full textIt is well-known that children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often have language impairment. However, the nature of this impairment is still largely unknown. Some studies hold that language impairment in children with ASD is of the same nature as impairment found in children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI), whereas others argue that SLI and language impairment in ASD may be different both in their structure and their etiology. At the heart of this debate lies the difficulty of assessing language abilities of children with ASD, especially when active participation is required. Moreover, to date, few studies have investigated formal aspects of language in children with ASD in languages other than English. In this study, we explore real-time interpretation of grammatical cues in French-speaking children with ASD, with a focus on object clitics

Full textSUMMARY The students at the elementary level of education demonstrate a great level of difficulty when transferring grammatical concepts taught previously in their French classes. This research wishes to verify if teaching students to identify the classes of words using the inductive method combined with specific approaches or integrated methods would increase the students’ facility to locate determinants, nouns, adjectives and verbs in their own written productions in order to correctly carry out the grammatical agreements. The data is gathered from six written productions written during several weeks by three groups of students in their second year of cycle two. The results of the experimental groups (one trying out the integrated approach and the other, the specific approach) are compared with those obtained from a control group. At the end of the experiment, the results were maintained, between the pretest and the post-test, with regards to the identification of the determinants, the nouns and the adjectives for the three groups. However, the results decreased in regards to the identification of the verbs. With regards to the grammatical agreements, all the groups improved their agreements determinant-name. Moreover, the control groups had better results in the agreement of the adjective. Also, only the group trying out the specific approach succeeded in maintaining its results regarding the agreement of the verb, whereas the two other groups obtained weaker results at the end of the experimentation.

Full textIntroduction: Occupational asthma (OA) is diagnosed in the province of Quebec with the specific inhalation challenge (SIC) test. The SIC test consists of exposing the patient to a suspected causal agent in order to induce an asthmatic reaction. When a causal agent has been omitted from the occupational history, the SIC test can be negative. An expert assessment of occupational exposures by an occupational hygienist is considered an accurate method when quantitative measurements are not available. However, its contribution has never been evaluated in the diagnosis of OA. Objective: Evaluate the contribution of an occupational exposure assessment by an expert industrial hygienist to the diagnosis of OA. Compare the occupational exposures detected by an occupational hygienist and a clinician in: 1) OA subjects with a positive SIC, 2) Subjects with a negative SIC. Methods: The clinician assessed the workplace exposures during a routine clinical evaluation preceding the performance of the SIC. An expert assessment of work histories was performed by an occupational hygienist blind to the diagnostic status of the patient. Results: 120 subjects (Positive SIC: 67 Negative SIC: 53) were enrolled in this study. The occupational hygienist detected the causal agent in almost all cases of OA. In 33 negative SIC, the occupational hygienist identified sensitizing agents which were not detected by the clinician. Conclusions: An expert assessment of occupational exposures by an occupational hygienist is a method which could complement the clinical assessment for the detection of sensitizing agents associated with OA. This method could be included in the clinical evaluation of OA in order to decrease the probability of misdiagnosis.
