Abstract:
Hermeneutical aspect of reference embraces a relation to reality in itsbroadest sense. This aspect of reference explains how some conceptsemployed in scientific theories and historical and fictional text, which areconsidered as “non-existant”, transform our experience of reality. Epistemologicalaspect of reference should not be separated from ontological andhermeneutical aspects.

Abstract:
The article reviews the autobiographical prose of Tsvetaeva in a rhetorical aspect. Narration in Tsvetaeva’s texts is structured by the intimate feelings of the addresser: any eventuality is subjectively characterized and evaluated. Author’s strategies are determined by the character of the narrator, content of the text they produce and its implied meaning. Tsvetaeva’s works are oriented on prepared readers, on recipients, who have a system of certain cultural and philosophical images and expectations. The interaction of the author and the reader suggests having common memories, understanding of cultural and historical context, merge of the question, set by the author with an expected answer, given by the reader on reception of the text. The recipient is actively involved in the process of empathy, cognitive area of the text becomes subject to congruous interpretations. In the course of hermeneutic research the subject of perception mentally creates their own text, reflecting the depth and degree of understanding of the original, as well as the chosen angle of reading. Rhetorical aspect of impact does not only suggest deep understanding of the meaning by the recipient, but points out the changes in recipient’s consciousness, which are results of such impact. The article broadens the perceptions of cultural and historical context of the epoch and of Tsvetaeva as one of the greatest artists of the XXth century, the genre features and philosophical and ethical significance of her autobiographical prose.

Abstract:
AbstractThis essay focuses on the historical text as a whole. It does so by conceiving of the historical text as representation ‐ in the way the we may say of a photo or a painting that it represents the person depicted on it. It is argued that representation cannot be properly understood by modelling it on true description. So all the central questions asked since the days of Frege with regard to how the true statement relates to the world must be asked anew, if we wish to understand how a historical representation relates to what it is about. Three claims are made. In the first place, representation is not a two-place but a three-place operator: apart from a representation (say, a book on Napoleon) and what the representation represents (Napoleon himself), a representation also indicates an aspect of represented reality (an aspect of Napoleon). The second claim is that this notion of the aspect is crucial for a proper understanding of (historical) representation. Thirdly, it is argued that traditional theories of reference cannot account for the relationship between a representation and the aspect indicated by it.

Abstract:
The article examines linguopragmatic and linguoculturological aspects of the precedent phenomena usage in the Spanish media discourse aiming to define the pragmatic potential of the precedent in it and to partially reconstruct the Spanish picture of the world and linguistic identity by defining the linguoculturological importance of the precedent phenomena. The language is seen as an instrument for coding and translating cultural-semantic information. The definition of the notion ‘precedent’ is given and the basic theories on contemporary precedent studies are analyzed, the intertextuality theory in particular. A precedent phenomenon in the text is seen as a manifestation of a linguistic world-image, world knowledge objectification as well as a powerful tool of peoples’ minds manipulation by its implicit verbal influence on the audience. According to D. Gudkov’s classification, there are the following universal and national precedent phenomena: precedent situations, precedent names and precedent expressions. In the media text a precedent phenomenon is seen as one of the means of the implementation of the following strategies: semantic, pragmatic, conversational and rhetorical. Intertextuality is predominantly manifested in neologisms, allusions and quotations, which refer to the world and Spanish literature, the Bible, mythological sources and historical realia and Spanish internal events. The obtained results have proved the original hypothesis, according to which precedent phenomena in the media discourse reflect the cultural fund and the historical memory of the Spanish linguocultural community thus serving as a culture and language conductor. They also provide an indirect communication between the representatives of different cultures, epochs and generations.

Abstract:
Abstract Regardless of the approach one uses in the study of translating and translations, it remains necessary to delimit the legitimate field of concern. I.e. translations must be identified and described sui generis as the results of a text-processing activity. From the linguistic and text-theoretical perspective this objective is fulfilled by the concept of equivalence; a translation is defined as a secondary text that stands in an equivalence relation to a primary text. The range of the equivalence-oriented approach and the possibilities it offers for systematic description and explanation of translational phenomena are, however, limited. Its problems and limitations become apparent not only in the context of historical translation research, but also whenever interest focusses upon the text-productive—i.e. ultimately creative—aspect of translation, as opposed to its reproductive aspect, i.e. the linguistic-textual relationships between languages and texts as these are deduced from regularities.

Abstract:
The development of intercultural relations and the globalization of multicultural civilization gives rise to the need for educational study the elements found in the language of each nation, not only in the national-cultural aspect but also in comparative translation. At the present stage of translation educational study development, special attention is paid to the issues of the national and historical specifics of the original work preservation and transmission in the process of translation into the language of another culture. This article discusses the linguistic realities and their role in the national and historical identity reflection of a different culture, presented in the context of a work of art. As the result of the study, the methods of Kazakh historical reality transmission are analyzed, and the specifics of their translation into Russian is described on the basis of the works of Kazakh writer Dukenbai Doszhan (XX century). The article highlights the sign of the “dual nature” of historical realities in archaized texts of fiction, on which the choice of a translation solution depends. The main results and conclusions of the study presented in this article show that the distance in time and space separating the source text from the text of translation inevitably leads to national-cultural biases, which should be taken into account during a text translation that must be adequate to the original text.

Abstract:
The paper addresses different approaches to the interpretation of the notion ‘interrogativity’ in science. This notion is under constant study in different fields of knowledge, such as philosophy, logics, pedagogy, psychology, sociology, linguistics, literature studies, etc. The paper aims to study approaches to the interpretation of the notion ‘interrogativity’ in linguistics in its different aspects; therefore, the above notion is analyzed in grammar, semantics, stylistics, functional stylistics, pragmatics, theory of speech acts. The author also analyzes the notion in a historical retrospective, providing philosophical and logical background of its appearance in linguistics, where it preserves its epistemological sense. From the linguistic point of view, the semantics, functions and formal ways of representation of the above notion in language are considered in the paper. In the aspect of grammar, formal ways of representation of the above category are analyzed. In the aspect of semantics, the content and various functions are under consideration. From the stylistic point of view, the role of interrogativity in texts of various functional styles (e. g. literary text, scientific text, official documents, journalistic text) is analyzed. Numerous research works concerning the notion of linguistic interrogativity claim that it may be either explicit or implicit. Explicit interrogativity means that the semantics of interrogation is presented in the text by formal means of a question (word order, intonation, question words), while implicit interrogativity presupposes interrogative semantics in statements.

Abstract:
Yuri Lotman affirms that the concept of the text is not absolute, but makes sense in a relationship with a historical, cultural and psychological structure that accompanies it. He considers every text "... determined by those socio-historical, national and psycho-anthropological reasons, which form the artistic models of life” [1] So in a totalitarian regime, in other words dehumanized, the novel of socialist realism not only avoids the modern literary tendency, but manages to show dehumanization even in its formal-narrative aspect. Thus, in the conditions when the totalitarian regime aims at installing a 'new man', the novel of socialist realism also through censorship aims its promotion ('the new man’). In the formal-narrative aspect, the novel of Socialist realism emphasizes the authoritative mode of confession, in the sense of full submission of the character (meaning the reader, who is identified with the character throughout the reading process) to the total information within the literary work owned by the author in cooperation with the narrator, but at the same time proclaims as 'heretic' the narrative ways that liberated the character from the submission without glory of the pair author-narrator. As such, it (the novel of socialist realism) is / becomes thus a direct expression of dehumanization. [1]Y. Lotman,"The Text and extra-textual artistic structures", quoted by F. Abstract:
The article is devoted to the definition of the features of historical hermeneutics, the development of the concept of "understanding" within the pedagogical hermeneutic method; the inseparable connection of the theory of understanding and hermeneutics is shown; the path of the formation of hermeneutics as a direction of history has been followed and the vision of understanding by different researchers is considered. The question of the expediency of expanding the traditional means and methods of historical science at the expense of hermeneutics was violated. Such hermeneutical arsenal was used as attention to the historical text, the disclosure of its meaning (explicit and implicit), the use of practical hermeneutic knowledge in the process of studying the evolution of historical hermeneutics, pedagogical conditions and technologies that provide this understanding are considered. The role of pedagogical culture of teachers as the main factor of understanding is given. The relationship between education, personality and socio-cultural environment and its influence on the processes of understanding are considered. The survey makes it possible to conclude that the process of understanding is a complex methodological problem that is studied from different sides by hermeneutics, pedagogy, semiotics, history, psychology, sociology, and a number of other sciences. At the same time, the task is not to contrast all of these methods and approaches, but to reasonably combine and supplement them in order to obtain as the most accurate, complete and comprehensive understanding of the various aspects of the problem of understanding. The profound transformations that have taken place in modern society have put science and history in particular, in the face of the obvious fact of rethinking a large number of issues raised by the current needs of a new state of socio-economic and socio-cultural relations.

Abstract:
The Estonian film The Last Relic offers an interesting case of ideological intersemiotic translation. At the same time, it is an innovative film from the point of view of text composition as well as combination of traditional montage with intersemiotic montage in which the speech of the heroes, the messages of the songs and repetition of visual and musical motifs are juxtaposed to create historical and ideological ambiguity. The specificity of this film is very close to later tendencies in using montage: the movement from a temporal understanding of montage to spatial montage in contemporary new media and 3D-movies. A new understanding of montage is also fruitful for the new interpretation of the chronotopical structure of narrative texts. The traditional theory of montage is rooted in classical literature, while new media experience opens up new possibilities for understanding mechanisms of montage. On a very general level, contemporary tendencies of montage can be analysed as chronotopical montage.

Matthew 18:15—20: A diachronic and synchronic investigation with special reference to church discipline It is well known that gospel material consists of traditional matter as well as the evangelists' own input. A thorough exegesis should contain both the aspects of the investigation into the growth of the tradition (diachrony), and the study of the text in its final stage (synchrony). Matthew 18:15—20 is subjected to such an approach. As part of the diachrony these verses are studied by means of the historical critical paradigm. Special attention is paid to source and redaction criticism. Under the synchronic aspect this pericope is investigated structurally, historically and theologically. Discourse and narrative analyses are used for the structural component.

Abstract:
We consider the ideas of the largest Russian literature studies scholars of the pre-revolutionary period in Russia, who laid the foundations of literature studies comparativistics. We establish that the modern idea about comparative literature studies is largely determined by the ideas of Russian scientists A.N. Veselovsky and V.M. Zhirmunsky. They developed individual literature studies aspects on the material of various literary facts and phenomena. We prove that on the basis of Russian scientists’ ideas, comparative literature studies were formed within the framework of the cultural and historical school that prevailed at that time, that new methodological principles and approaches are being developed on their basis, which researchers can apply for productive comparative researches in the Post-Soviet territory. We pay attention to the fact that in literature studies comparativistics nowadays emerged its own approaches: a comparative historical approach, in which genetic and contact relationships are studied; comparative typological (matching) approach, which explores thematic, figurative, genre, stylistic similarities and differences: an intertextual approach which incorporates “one text” into “another text”; the approach of inter-literary interactions when studying the translation of the written work. We substantiate that in the aspect of these approaches it is possible to better understand the national identity of national literature.

Abstract:
There are two aspect markers in Cantonese whose meaning and use are similar: heilai and heisoenglai. Their meaning and use are equivalent to qilai in Mandarin, indicating that an event or a state begins. When an object is involved, it splits the two aspect markers into two parts: hei-Object-lai and hei-Object-soenglai. Examining the Cantonese historical materials compiled in the 19th and the early 20th centuries, it is noted that heilai already existed in the 19th century materials while the first occurrence of heisoenglai is found in a text published in 1930s. This paper tries to explore the formation of the inchoative aspect marker heisoenglai from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives. The paper further suggests that heisoenglai is formed as a result of the grammaticalization of the directional form: Verb + hei + Object + soeng + lai, a form which arises by combining Verb + hei + Object and Verb + Object + soeng + lai.

Abstract:
Ideas about the need for special means of protecting the Constitution arise and develop simultaneously with the appearance of the first written constitutions. The study of the protection of the Constitution reveals the legal tools that can be used to prevent attacks on constitutional principles and values. The article analyzes the meaning of the term Constitution in historical retrospect, highlights the organic connection between the terms Constitution and constitutionalism, and pays attention to the thoughts of scientists and educators about the Constitution and its legal protection. It also describes the techniques used to protect the first constitutions. Ideas for a certain protection or defense of the Constitution arose immediately with the appearance of the first constitutions. They were implemented gradually, either finding their expression in the constitutional text itself or following the development of judicial practice. Such means gradually became the institution of repeal of acts, the formation of the constitutional-legal Institute of the guarantor and guardian of the Constitution, the Institute of constitutional control, the procedure for changing the Constitution, and others.

Studying on the politics of Islamic education in Indonesia cannot be separated from historical aspects. This study discusses why and how the history of Islamic education cannot be separated from the birth, growth and development of Islamic education in a country. In the Indonesian context, the political history of Islamic education cannot be separated from the dynamics of Islamic education and power from time to time, starting from the pre-independence period to the present. This article uses qualitative research methods that emphasize the study of documents or texts. That is, the study of the text in this study focuses more on the analysis or interpretation of written material based on the context. The results of this study indicate that the relationship between history and politics of Islamic education in Indonesia is very close and strong relationship. Azyumardi Azra sees the historical aspect as very dominant in constructing the political reality of Islamic education in Indonesia from time to time. In this context, Michel Foucault gives attention to the genealogical aspects in history which focus on the origin and form of the history of knowledge which in certain contexts cannot be separated from power.

Abstract:
The article is concerned with a complex study of the specific features of international agreements in the aspect of functional stylistics and text linguistics. The linguistic evidence has been collected in the Old English texts of international agreements made in the late 9th century by the Wessex kings Alfred the Great, Eadward and the chief of Danes Guthrum as testified by the late 11th – early 12th century manuscript. The present article is intended to make some scientific contribution by trying to solve a number of functional style problems of a specific text type in diachrony, i. e. to consider linguostylistic features of international documents in the historical aspect. It has been found out that lexical, grammar, structural-syntactic and compositional features of the text type in question emerged at the early stage of its existence and are still functional now. The research also proceeds to various language levels, in particular the textual one, to reveal and describe the specific features of Old English international treaties which are no longer inherent in modern formal papers of the same type. As a result of analyzing the linguistic evidence, a conclusion is made that there has been effected some linguostylistic change in the course of formation of the given text type, which, however, can hardly be desribed as drastic.

Abstract:
Abstract In staging his Iphigenie auf Tauris, Johann Wolfgang Goethe stages reception itself. The story about a Mycenaean maiden who, exiled from her home in the South, was welcomed and sheltered by the barbarian people of the North, readily represents how the corpus of ancient Greek culture, detached from its native historical context, came to be received and curated by German artists, poets, and scholars, including, of course, by Goethe himself. If Goethe’s text is indeed understood as an allegory of reception, then subsequent readings of his Iphigenie should exhibit any number of ways in which reception itself has been formulated and assessed. The investigations here all turn on the issue of verbal aspect. By turning to key German interpretations of Goethe’s drama by Theodor Adorno, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Hans Robert Jauss, which emerged during the socially and politically tumultuous period of 1967–73, the present study aims to give a critical account of receptive paradigms — an account based on an investigation into the varied aspects that distinguish different historical receptions of reception.

As a sourcebook for this aspect of the Pythagorean tradition it is, of course, invaluable. However, its poor reputation is increased, and its historical value lessened, by the depredations time has wrought on the text. ThA was never great prose: it is a compilation, largely from the lost Theologoumena Arithmeticae of Nicomachus of Gerasa and from Anatolius' Peri Dekados; and the text which cannot be safely or conjecturally assigned to these two sources often reads like little more than the written-up notes of some student. However, the treatise contains passages of considerable lucidity, within the context of its peculiar framework.

Abstract:
Perhaps the most striking aspect of Polybius’ work is the frequency with which the historian pauses his historical narrative and embarks upon digressions, including entire books devoted to the topics of geography (Book 34), historiography (Book 12) and, most famously, the discussion of the Roman constitution in Book 6. Such digressions have naturally drawn the attention of modern scholars, but in the past the tendency in Polybian scholarship had been to read such digressions in isolation, and even to deny their relevance outside of their immediate context. While it is true that these digressions cannot be regarded as strict blue-prints upon which Polybius’ historical narrative is to be precisely mapped, more recent scholarship has suggested that such passages are not as irrelevant to this narrative as they had for a long time appeared. Moreover, a parallel trend in Polybian scholarship is currently calling for a renewed focus into the composition of his historical narrative in order to apply the level of scrutiny to the text of Polybius previously reserved, for example, for his more famous predecessors, Herodotus and Thucydides. An appropriate recognition of the relationship between the more famous passages of Polybius’ work found in his digressions and the broader narrative of historical events will help to alleviate this deficiency. Careful study of the text of Polybius in this manner will reveal that his historical narrative does not simply represent a bare record of historical facts but is rather composed by the historian in a way that demonstrates and reinforces the principles presented in the more abstract digressions, which have attracted more attention.

Abstract:
The article deals with compatibility of personal freedom and public security. The aim of the research is to analyse theoretical aspects of the correlation between personal freedom and public security and evaluate their assurance possibilities in the context of contemporary global migration. The article emphasizes value of freedom and security, their interconnection as well as demand and possibilities of their compatibility. Aspects of freedom as personal decision-making and freedom as realizing that decision are analyzed by revealing that extension of freedom boundaries common to contemporary society can turn into self-will with regard to other individuals or society. Such concept of freedom subsequently raises the issue of public security. The following research methods were employed: text interpretation, rational reconstructions, historical explications. On the basis of the methods, the essential ideas of the issue under discussion, its arguments and meanings within historical context were revealed. The conducted analysis allows one to make a conclusion that an individual is free in the society as much as he acknowledges others’ right for freedom whereas the society is secure if certain individual’s self-will is limited for the sake of all society members’ right to freedom. Assurance of personal freedom and public security is the goal of contemporary democratic society and different state institutions including the State Border Guard Service, and has become extremely relevant in the context of modern global migration.

Abstract:
This work addresses the way geographical space is represented in Mapa dibujado por un espía (2013) by Guillermo Cabrera Infante. Taking into account the notions of Wayne C. Booth and Walter Benjamin regarding the narrator and the role of literature in society, we analyze this formal aspect of the text, the focalization of which proposes a “true” plot. The cartography of La Havana is based on the experience of the Cuban revolutionary reality that contrasts radically with the memories of the capital in the 50s. The historical data and the perception of the protagonist are combined in order to trace his identity, which is a form of the author’s insertion in the text: politics and daily life converge in order to re-map a space in which traditional culture and revolutionary cultural control are contrasted.

Abstract:
This account of the condition now termed complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) spans approximately 462 years since a description embodying similar clinical features was described by Ambroise Paré in 1557. While reviewing its historical origins, the text describes why it became necessary to change the taxonomies of two clinical syndromes with similar pathophysiologies to one which acknowledges this aspect but does not introduce any mechanistic overtones. Discussed at length is the role of the sympathetic component of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and why its dysfunction has both directly and indirectly influenced our understanding of the inflammatory aspects of CRPS. As the following article will show, our knowledge has expanded in an exponential fashion to include musculoskeletal, immune, autoimmune, central and peripheral nervous system and ANS dysfunction, all of which increase the complexity of its clinical management. A burgeoning literature is beginning to shed light on the mechanistic aspects of these syndromes and the increasing evidence of a genetic influence on such factors as autoimmunity, and its importance is also discussed at length. An important aspect that has been missing from the diagnostic criteria is a measure of disease severity. The recent validation of a CRPS Severity Score is also included.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the hermeneutic approach to drama interpretation on the material of «The Tragedy of Coriolanus» by W. Shakespeare. The offered model includes a two-fold coordinate system: the analysis of the plot from the point of view of its identification, comprehension and attitude formation, on the one hand, and its semantic, pragmatic and stylistic explanation, on the other hand. The application of this approach to understanding of the tragedy in question makes it possible to define the subject of the play, its genre and the main characteristic features of its heroes. This is a semantic aspect of the identification stage of the play. A pragmatic aspect of the identification consists in describing the main evaluative positions of the heroes as expressed in their words and actions. A stylistic aspect of identification allows us to describe the main linguistic means used to create artistic images. The comprehension level of the text analysis viewed semantically is aimed at the reconstruction of its social and historical context explained by scholarly studies of Shakespeare and his epoch. The pragmatic aspect of analysis on the comprehension level is centered around the motives of the characters’ behavior, the logic of their actions, and the inevitability of their fate. The stage of action in interpretation corresponds to formation of attitudes to the meaning of the text connected with the present days. The tragedy of Coriolanus is a story about a great person who intentionally cuts off his ties with reality and about people around him who fail to come to rescue and thus make him perish.

Abstract:
The article studies the most important paradigm of the existence of entrepreneurship in Russia – the idea of poverty on the basis of analysis of literary and historical sources that contains descriptions of the events of the merchant environment in the Russian North. It is illustrated by the historiographic overview of texts-sources of the XVIII century. In the analysis of the narrative intentions of the Northern Russian historiography we can clearly identify semantic strategy – existential model of life as a debt (responsibility, obligation), love (kindness, mercy, unity, catholicity), faith (trust in a higher principle, faith, hope), and sacrifice (dedication, donations, help, support). All these vital vectors intersect in the semantic space of historical essays and emanate from a single semantic paradigm of “poverty”. These principles have a great influence on the development of the business environment in Russia. From the standpoint of the theory of everyday life it is important to explore historical documents in the framework of the semiotic approach and reveal the specific social actions and communicative acts in them. The literary fact is fixed in culture, while continuing to live in the space of this culture in the form of characters, plots, motives. And this literary sign always points to another sign, leading in turn to a new, hidden sign of the culture. The research intention in this case is directed towards the interpretation of a text sign, opening the code and the comprehension of cultural meaning. In this context, the signs and meanings of historical documentary sources are not just verbal constructions, but the complex cultural forms which keep all strata and sections of past cultural epochs and fixed “nobiological collec- tive memory” (Lotman). In addition, studying historical texts it is necessary to consider the modern anthropological theory of culture, in which the latter is regarded as a value space (C. Geertz).

Liu, Xia. "The narrative in vocal music: the genre aspect." Aspects of Historical Musicology 18, no. 18 (December 28, 2019): 230–42. http://dx.doi.org/10.34064/khnum2-18.13.

Full text
Abstract:
Logical reason for research. Relevance of the presented topic is determined by the fact that with the help of knowledge gained in the field of inter-scientific interaction, it is possible to obtain new research results on both, traditional and new issues of musicology. In vocal music, which combines musical and extra-musical factors, there are a number of its own “eternal questions”, one of which is the interaction of the word and music. There is no definite answer to the question of what is the leading in the vocal art – a word or music, each time this is decided individually within the framework of a certain genre and style. But there is always a certain verbal “programming” of a vocal composition with the text. One of the serious and complex concepts associated with a textual basis is the “narrative”, and the study of the effect of the narrative in the musical art requires a special attention in both theoretical and practical directions. Innovation. The article is devoted to considering a narrative in the vocal music in the genre aspect. The narrative nature is understood as a narrative orientation associated with a certain emotional content; at the same time, the narrative is characterized, on the one hand, as a factor of the verbal text of a vocal composition (the extra-musical component), and, on the other hand, as a factor of a single whole vocal composition (the musical component). From the point of view of its implementation, the narrative in vocal music has two main functions – the composer’s one and the performer’s one, which in its own way manifests itself in various vocal genres. The most striking of the narrative vocal genres in vocal music are the opera and the ballad. In the opera, the narrative has a more complex synthetic nature in connection with the interaction of various types of art (music, literature, theatre). In the chamber-vocal genre of the ballad, the narrative side is presented more revealingly and is more closely associated with the verbal text (which is due to the literary origin of the genre). The purpose of the present study is to identify the specifics of the narrative in vocal music in the genre aspect. The main methods of the presented research are the genre one and the functional one. The genre method is necessary to characterize vocal genres in connection with the chosen perspective for studying the meaning and the effect of the narrative in vocal music. The functional method allows one to determine the peculiar features of the interaction of the extra-musical narrative and music in the conditions of various vocal genres. The research results. The directions of the interaction of words and music in the vocal art are diverse: this can be their interaction in a concrete composition through the prism of the style (of the performer, the composer, and the historical epoch); the features of the composer interpretation of the verbal text; the intonation and phonic patterns associated, for example, with a specific national source, and much more. The verbal text as a guideline, already being coloured emotionally, is representing, in fact, a kind of narration. As it is known widely in the field of philosophy and psychology, the narrative is a statement of interrelated events presented in the form of the sequence of words or images. Sometimes the meaning of the term “narrative” coincides with the words “narration”, “story”; but there are other meanings (for example, as a “psychological attitude”). In music, these two meanings, “narrative” and “psychological attitude”, interact, as a result, within the framework of certain vocal genres the individual creative decisions born. The main feature of a narrative composition is the presence of a mediator between the author and the world of narrative (Schmid, V., 2008). This is especially important for understanding the specifics of the manifestation of the narrative nature in music, where there is such a “mediator”. In vocal music there are other signs of narrative, understood as the quality of the verbal text itself, because the genres of vocal music are quite diverse in scale and objectives – from the opera to the vocal miniature. The narrative qualities are primarily possessed by those texts that describe the figurative and emotional situation from a third person, a storyteller. In vocal music, this applies primarily to genres with the leading literary and the vivid plot beginning – these are musical and theatrical compositions (an opera), as well as the chamber-vocal genre of a ballad. The narrative qualities of the musical component can manifest themselves in different ways – both, on permanent basis, to enhance the emotional effect, and in opposition, for a contrasting juxtaposition and creating a dramaturgy layering and volume. The musical accompaniment often “deciphers” for the listener that emotional, figurative, plot subtext that is partially absent in the literary text, according to the laws of the narrative nature. The tasks of the vocalist as an interpreter of compositions of the narrative genres are the ownership of the special complex of performing techniques related to the need to identify the entire figurative potential, which is embedded in the vocal composition (both in the text part and in the music one), as well as in its presentation to the listener in an individual performing version. With this, each genre possesses with its own specifics. An opera is a genre where the musical and literary art interacts with the theatrical art. The chamber-vocal genre of a ballad has its own characteristics, the main of which the narrative nature is. Conclusions. The narrative nature in the art of music is primarily associated with its extra-musical source. Both literary criticism and psychology study the narration, since the narrative as a story-telling is characterized by an emotional attitude, which is dictated from the outside to the one to whom the narrative is directed. Since the text (the word) is also used in vocal music, it is possible and necessary to talk about the existence of the narrative in music with all the specifics of its action. In vocal music, one can distinguish genres where the word text contains the narrative to a greater extent, which determines the specifics of the genre. This is the opera, but there the narrative is associated not only with the literary, but also with the theatrical factor. A more revealing vocal genre in the aspect of the narrative nature is such a genre of the chamber-vocal music as the ballad. The prospects for the study of the narration in the musical art are associated both, with the interaction of the musical and extra-musical principles and the issues of musical interpretation, which the performing musicology considers. Since the narrative prepossess a mediator between its source and the recipient, and in the musical art there is also a mediator between the author (the composer) and the listener.

Abstract:
This article studies the relevance of an historical lexical analysis to the stylistic description of Modern Hebrew texts. The examination of the lexical make-up of two distinct genres - administrative language and folksong - reveals a correlation between the social functions of the corpora and their formal characteristics. The administrative corpus reflects the lexical structure of standard Modern Hebrew. The folksong, on the other hand, is influenced by literary and ideological considerations. Consequently, it gives expression to the cultural ties with the traditional Hebrew sources by an abundant use of inherited lexicon. The findings suggest that in text-oriented cultures such as Hebrew, stylistic description can benefit from an historical analysis. Such an analysis responds to an intrinsic socio-linguistic characteristic of the language, and complements the structural stylistic analysis. Following Sarfatti (1990), the lexical analysis is based on distinctions drawn within each lexical item between three elements - root, form and meaning. Such a distinction takes account of diachronic changes in the semantic value of lexical items. It pinpoints factors characterizing the corpora’s lexical composition and enables multi-level distinctions between different types of discourse. As a result, it sheds light on one aspect of genre differentiation in the language.

Abstract:
‘The historical value of an object depends not so much on the nature of the object as on its associations, which only scientific excavation can detect.’ The full significance of an inscription may equally rely on knowledge of its archaeological context. In practice, however, users of inscriptions often neglect this aspect. The standard commentaries, new and old, on Alexander's famous ‘edict to Priene’ (hereafter ‘AE’) tend to ignore the physical context of the inscription (I.Priene I) and to treat the text as an isolated or one-off document. Consequently no-one reading Dittenberger, Tod or now Heisserer would learn that it is one of a series of public inscriptions with a consistent theme belonging to an ‘archive’ of connected texts. The inscription is not discussed as one of a group of documents, its monumental setting is largely ignored and the rich corpus of Prienian inscriptions is not exploited fully as a control and source for the historical background of the AE. It is the purpose of this article to try to show that the AE cannot be properly studied in this archaeological limbo. ‘The associations’ of the AE are vital. They provide a new perspective from which to study the text.

Abstract:
The history of the creation of Andrei T. Bolotov’s memoirs has been little studied. In particular, the stages of his work on this text are not entirely clear. This article is an attempt to shed light on one aspect of this problem. Bolotov’s personal fund (No. 349) in the Archives and manuscripts section of the State Historical Museum contain a manuscript of Bolotov’s memoirs entitled “Part 2”. It differs significantly in its essential characteristics (paper, design, size, composition, title, division into sections, etc.) from most manuscripts of Bolotov’s memoirs. The study presents a textual analysis of this manuscript and compares it with the text of memoirs published by Mikhail Semevsky, — the most complete printed edition of The Life and Adventures of Andrei Bolotov. The stages of Bolotov’s work on the manuscript are considered; a comparative analysis of lexical units, stylistic preferences, and the content of the manuscript is carried out. The results obtained suggest that the undated manuscript is the earliest version of the memoirs, supposedly written in the late 1770s.

Abstract:
The paper examines Polish reception of the poem by Sergei Yesenin “The Black Man”. It attempts to intertextually analyze the work at the level of various kinds of analogies with Polish poetic texts, translated and original. The subject of comparative analysis is the content-formal aspects of translated texts. At the same time, the theory of translation, becoming a part of the comparative methodology, allows one to reach a broader level of generalizations, cultural projections, and socio-historical parallels. The study addresses a number of translations (W. Słobodnik, L. Podhorski-Okołów, W. Broniewski, A. Pomorski), illustrating the degree of freedom of interpretation of a literary text, proportion of congeniality as a special criterion of poetic correspondence. The very process of circulation, transfer, continuous cultural exchange of motives, lyrical situations between the texts of different national literatures and linguistic elements came to be an undeniably important aspect of artistry as a new quality of imagery and the birth of “explosive” poetic meanings. The issue of cultural transfer allows perceiving in individual translation versions mental worlds of the authors refracted in them, life-creating and biographical contexts, as well as historical collisions. In this case literary translation acts as a reliable tool, through which typological and comparative-historical comparisons of poetic worlds are carried out. Analysis of the micro-poetics of texts, motif structure and sensory layer appears more or less convincing on the way of studying reception and a broad intertextual field of selected works.

Abstract:
The article deals with the consideration of the paremic text in the modern linguistic paradigm: approaches to the researches are presented, the text-forming and linguocultural potential of individual units is shown. The direct observation method was used as the main method in this work, followed by the use of descriptive-analytical, comparative, contextual and linguistic and cultural methods. The Study is based on examples from lexicographic sources and illustrations from the Internet. The article provides an overview of the main aspects of the paremiological studies. Paremias are considered as a folklore genre, the thematic and ideographic principle of classifying paremias is presented, the aspects of cultural linguistics (linguoculturological) and translation studies are substantiated, and peculiarities of historical and etymological discursive (functional) analysis are shown. Comparative linguistic and cultural analysis is recognized by the authors of the paper as an integrative aspect of the paremiological material description. The article analyzes the text-forming and linguoculturological potential of the paremiology in different languages. As an example of the realization of the text-forming potential of paremias, the functioning of the proverb Не рой другому яму - сам в нее попадешь (упадешь) (He who digs a pit for others may fall himself therein) is studied as the verbal part of the Russian and Lithuanian demotivators. The paper provides a linguistic and cultural analysis of paremias with a toponymical component in different languages. Despite the abundance of various toponyms, which are characteristic for different countries, in these proverbs are dominated the international component, which is associated with the universal laws of human thinking, which makes it possible to find their semantic equivalents in various languages. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that paremias are considered in various aspects from the standpoint of modern humanistic education. With the development of social communications in modern society, an intercultural connection is being strengthened, requiring linguocultural commentary.

Abstract:
A brief comparative review of English-language literatures of Australia and New Zealand is given in the article. The aim of the article is to highlight the similarities and differences at the stages of the literary process development from the point of view of postcolonial studies. The historical genesis specificity of the region and the uniqueness of national identity formation at the juncture of colonial and colonized cultures stipulate the definition of Australia and New Zealand as settler societies. Tasks needed to be resolved are to disclose the notion “settler societies”, to determine common characteristics of the studied national literatures as postcolonial ones, to give their comparative outline, to make a textual analysis of a number of literary works which are indicative for each stage of the literary process development. In the course of the study, the authors refer to a comparative historical method of scientific enquiry to highlight similarities in the literary process development and the degree of influence of metropolitan literature on it. They also use a sociological method to estimate the impact of the settler societies development on the literary process and a hermeneutic interpretative method in textual analysis to interpret the transformation of a typical hero at various stages of the literary process in Australia and New Zealand. The article is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, the authors define “settler societies”, overview the place of “settler” countries in the postcolonial space, and note factors allowing to review the national literatures comparatively as postcolonial ones. In the practical part, the authors characterize three stages of the literary process development observed in the national literatures of Australia and New Zealand, conduct an interpretative analysis of the works in which the prolific features of a typical hero are shown. On conducting the research the authors come to the following conclusions. The national literatures of Australia and New Zealand are under the influence of the metropolitan culture and literaturel, but the relation started to loosen at a contemporary stage of the literary process development due to the formation of the national identities of Australians and New Zealanders. The impact of colonized indigenous peoples’ cultures on the literary process defines the difference between the national literatures. For the countries, the national identity formation is characteristic in the cultural sphere, which makes the further study of identification processes presentation in literary text promising.

Abstract:
The article considers ordalia as a historical and cultural phenomenon. The author proceeds from the position that the ordalia is a certain cultural text that carries a specific content that allows you to gain knowledge about the functioning of the pre-rule of traditional societies. In the period of antiquity and the Middle Ages, judges resorted to the ordeal procedure to determine guilt/innocence: a lot, a judicial duel, a test with hot jelly, boiling water, water. The ordeal procedure itself was based on the deeply religious consciousness of the man of the Ancient world and the Middle Ages. The people of the Middle Ages were deeply convinced that behind all the phenomena of the natural world there are supernatural, transcendent forces that decide the fate of the natural elements, man and humanity. That is why the ordeal procedure assumed that the adjudication of court decisions, especially in complicated cases, must be transferred to the hands of divine forces, that is, the so-called «God's judgment» must take place. The meaning of the ordeal was rooted in the belief «God is always on the side of the right!». Accordingly, the outcome of the duel and the results of various tests represent the divine will, the realization of justice and rightness. That is why the results of the ordeal are essentially sacred. In this regard, the phenomenon of Ordalia fits seamlessly into the reality of the Ancient world and the Middle Ages.

Abstract:
One of the problems of present physics teaching at the initial stage is creation in pupils minds some artificial barriers and the stereotypes complicating the subsequent studying of modern concepts. The main idea of the approach developed - all the themes and topics of general physics course should be focused on modern physical knowledge. Major instructional techniques are illustrated by the formation of modern space-time representation in the study of kinematics. Emphasis is placed on the geometric interpretation of the Galilean transformations. Together with three rotations, which determined by Euler angles, and three spatial shifts and a shift in time, they define the four-dimensional non-Euclidean geometry of space-time mechanics of Galileo, Newton. We discuss the relative status of the length of the trajectory and the inability to determine the length of the moving body diagram (world line) in four-dimensional space-time of Galileo, Newton. On the simple examples are demonstrated the need for experimental verification of the "obvious" assumptions about the immutability of the readings of moving and fixed hours and rulers. It is emphasized that the hypothesis of the existence of absolute rigid bodies, Newton's third law and the law of velocities addition in Newtonian mechanics lead to physically paradoxical conclusion about the existence of infinite velocity of material bodies motion. The history and physical preconditions create special relativity by Lo-rentz, Poincaré and Einstein are described. We discuss the geometric interpretation of the observed depend-ence of the atomic clock rate on the change of the gravitational potential. The idea that conceptions of the physical space-time have an world outlook and cultural value run through the whole text. The material presented in the form of an essay with the necessary historical refer-ences and analogies that promote understanding of the issues involved a wide range of readers, including the humanities. Key words: physics teaching, modern concepts, new approaches in teaching.

Abstract:
The works of William Shakespeare (1564-1616) have occasioned such a history of being altered to fit new historical periods, new cultures and new media that they have dominated literary studies related to the term „adaptation‟. Adaptation of a main source into different trans-genres, such as graphic novels, movies, performances on different kinds of stages, and indeed translations, are the study area of Adaptation Theory. The goal of an adaptation is to transfer works from one culture and language to make them usable for another culture and society. This research paper offers a comparative approach to two different plays produced in two different cultures, which have to date been regarded as wholly independent. As I will show, of the two, the source play, or „hypo text‟, is William Shakespeare’s historical tragedy King Richard II (text „A‟), while I will juxtapose Balalkrishna Samas play Bhimsenko Antya [The Doom of Bhimsen as a hypertext (text „B‟), which I will analyse in the light of Adaptation Theory. The paper shows that the plots and characters of the two plays are closely interrelated. Fourteen major incidents correspond closely between the main source and the adapted version, along with broad similarities in settings, even where characterizations of the principal characters suggest a diverging relationship with the hypo text. Sama‟s The Doom of Bhimsen, in short, is an appropriation of Shakespeare’s King Richard II, newly contextualized to Nepalese history and culture while being produced as a completely new Nepalese product. As this aspect of Sama’s play has never previously been explored; this research paper brings a breakthrough in the study of Nepalese literary history, and at the same time, makes a fresh contribution widening the area of adaptation theory.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the study of the religious problems of Vs. S. Solovyov’s historical novel “The Princess of Ostrog”, the central plot conflict of which is an open struggle between the Orthodoxy and the Catholicism that broke out in the 16th century in The Polish- Lithuanian Commonwealth. In the process of analysing the designated aspect of the text the author comes to the conclusion that the images of Konstantin, Halshka and Beata Ostrozhsky considered in the paper are a clear embodiment of the three possible life aspirations of the people who lived in the era recreated by the author: the struggle for the Orthodoxy in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania; asserting one’s right to profess the Orthodoxy; propaganda of the Catholicism.

Campbell, Kenneth W. "Proposed methodology for estimating the magnitude at which subduction megathrust ground motions and source dimensions exhibit a break in magnitude scaling: Example for 79 global subduction zones." Earthquake Spectra 36, no. 3 (February 7, 2020): 1271–97. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/8755293019899957.

Abstract:
In this article, I propose a method for estimating the magnitude [Formula: see text] at which subduction megathrust earthquakes are expected to exhibit a break in magnitude scaling of both seismic source dimensions and earthquake ground motions. The methodology is demonstrated by applying it to 79 global subduction zones defined in the literature, including Cascadia. Breakpoint magnitude is estimated from seismogenic interface widths, empirical source scaling relations, and aspect ratios of physically unbounded earthquake ruptures and their uncertainties. The concept stems from the well-established observation that source-dimension and ground motion scaling decreases for shallow continental (primarily strike-slip) earthquakes when rupture exceeds the seismogenic width of the fault. Although a scaling break for megathrust earthquakes is difficult to observe empirically, all of the instrumentally recorded historical [Formula: see text] mega-earthquakes have occurred on subduction zones with [Formula: see text] (8.1–8.9), consistent with an observed break in source scaling relations derived from these same events. The breakpoint magnitudes derived in this study can be used to constrain the magnitude at which the scaling of ground motion is expected to decrease in subduction ground motion prediction equations.

Abstract:
In this text, the author examines the historical aspects of the constitutional complaint, analyzes the genesis of its implementation in the legal systems, first of all, the states representing Western democracies. Furthermore, it seeks to answer the question whether the constitutional complaint is properly detected as a legal remedy or a remedy. It should be borne in mind that the definitive definition arises and is ultimately determined by the position of the constitutional court in the system of state power. Special attention is paid to the attempt to implement the constitutional complaint and the legal order of the Republic of Macedonia. The author through a brief review carries out a critical analysis of the constituent elements of the constitutional complaint that the new one predicts Draft amendment to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia. Particular attention is drawn to paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Draft Amendment XXXIX from the aspect of the negative impact they perform on the position of the Constitutional Court, displacing it from the primary base with the implementation and the regular appeal.

Abstract:
The Gospel of Luke reveals an important aspect, namely, the combination of history and eschatology. Therefore, many scholars have discussed whether Luke is more a historian rather than a theologian or vice versa. In his historical and eschatological discourse, the evangelist talks about the Parousia. The coming of the Son of Man at the end of time is a certainty and people have to prepare for his arrival. In this paper I aim to describe the attitude of the members of Lucan communities towards the second coming of the Son of Man having Luke 17 as a starting point. Firstly, I intend to evaluate the text of Luke 17:20-37 from a literary point of view, followed by a synoptic comparison to Matthew 24:36-44 in order to better underline Luke’s theological orientation. The final step involves a series of theological (eschatological) insights: the unexpected second arrival of Christ and the necessity of an orientation towards everlasting life. All of the images within the text of Luke 17:20-37 have an exhortatory intent: faith must always remain strong. And Christians should be faithful and vigilant at all times. This vigilance and the orientation towards the everlasting realities are important paths to salvation.

Abstract:
The author of the thesis uses Literary Ethics as a theoretical instrument and analyses the portrait of human dealing with turning-point in Vytautas Martinkus’s novel Simonija. The novel corresponds to the features of the turning-point literature marked in the dissertation of V. Katinienė: the thematic level emphasizes a change of historical (political) order and its existential problems; in thoughts, dreams, memories characters go back to the period of totalitarianism; the contrast between “homo sovieticus” and individuals of the free world is emphasized. The analysis of ethical conflicts in Simonija is presented, having in mind specific cultural context during the Soviet period and emphasizing the process of writing as a particular ethical situation and a way to reflect human’s experience. Vytautas Martinkus offers appropriate “snoumenizm” notion for summarizing human’s experience during the Soviet periodperiod. In essence, dehumanizing, painful experience of the Soviet era does not abandon human even in the period of freedom and forces him to go back to the past – physical presence in the world of restored independence does not free him from inner stagnation. In this paper, it is shown that Literary Ethics is asuitable theoretical instrument in order to analyze text about human’s experience at turning-point.

Abstract:
The critical research is aimed to review T. Sharova’s monograph «An author and text in social realism system: the nature of aesthetic conformism and the poetics of artistic compromise (based on the material of K. Gordienko’s works)». The attention is paid to the relevance of the book, defined in three aspects. First, the researcher shows one of the possible solutions to the important issue of aesthetic conformism and the poetics of compromise, due to socio-political and historical reasons. Secondly, a successful attempt to explore semantic inversions in the structure of «the patriarch of Ukrainian prose» K. Gordienko’s fiction text, whose work reflects the stages of artistic reorientation and the ways of «reconciliation» with reality, has been made. Third, an interesting approach to substantiation and testing of new mechanisms for the analysis of Soviet discursive practices based on a specific fiction material has been demonstrated. It is proved that sense and value of T. Sharova’s work is that the author focuses not only on historical and fiction issues, but also presents for the first time a number of theoretical issues, such as general markers of the socialist paradigm, «language of cooperation», political regulation of aesthetic norms, etc. Moreover, within the monograph, this aspect is considered both at the level of writer’s individual creative reactions and at the level of fiction writing strategies. The author of the scientific work has characterized the integral components of Ukrainian social realism and generalized the technology of formation and representation in the aesthetic conformism literature. It has been emphasized that the work of K. Gordienko, firstly, illustrates clearly the role of the artist in totalitarian conditions; secondly, it reflects the tragic result of balancing the ethical and aesthetic principles with the imposed Soviet «from above» style; thirdly, it reveals the adaptation practices of the author-creator, sheds light on the logic of both forced and voluntary conformism. In conclusion, T. Sharova’s monograph from a theoretical standpoint as well as historical and literary points of view makes a significant contribution to the study of the history of the twentieth century’s Ukrainian literature. In particular, a complex and ambiguous layer of social realistic literature has been studied.

Tsumura, David Toshio. "Scribal Errors or Phonetic Spellings? Samuel as an Aural Text." Vetus Testamentum 49, no. 3 (1999): 390–411. http://dx.doi.org/10.1163/156853399774228056.

Abstract:
AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to establish the "phonic" nature of some of the socalled "corrupt" passages in the MT of Samuel. We are particularly interested in Samuel's "aural" characteristics which might be represented in the phonetic spellings. This aural aspect of the narrative is clearly attested in cases where the Ketib and the Qere give two variant forms of the same word or phrase. In such cases, the K. usually represent "phonic" reality by a phonetic spelling. By contrast, the Q. points to the "correct" historical spelling. Such aural features can be demonstrated in other ways in the MT of Samuel, especially when 2 Sam. xxii is compared with its duplicate text, Ps. xviii. These variant forms are caused by phonological phenomena such as assimilation, metathesis, palatalization, vowel sandhi, consonantal sandhi, and glide. These examples are not exhaustive, but they are sufficient to show that many of the often-asserted "scribal errors" are actually rather phonetic spellings and do reflect the "economy" of pronunciation. Such phonic realization in writing is attested not simply in poetic texts but also in prose sections of 1-2 Samuel. Hence, our topic is not so much a problem of literary-linguistic composition as a matter of the method of writing, i.e. graphic and graphemic representation of an aural text.
