Abstract:
This work aims to develop classification models able to automatically perform the task of emotion identification on Italian arias. These models enable the musicologists and the public interested in opera to investigate the emotion of Italian aria in a systematical way. An aria can be seen as an independent unit of opera that is sung by one character. Each aria contains 1 to 8 verses. Considering an aria may transmit more than one emotion, a lower level granularity is adopted: the identification of the emotion transmitted at the verse level. On the basis of a manually labelled corpus comprised of 2,500 aria verses with their corresponding emotion, the �first part of this work investigates different text representations and classification approaches. Building on the results of the exploration in the �first part, the second part investigates emotion identification at the aria level. The size of supervised data is expanded by means of self-learning. The verse-level annotation is converted into aria-level annotation and each aria is assigned up to two emotion labels. I experimented with pre-trained character trigram embeddings and convolutional neural network. For the emotion identification at the verse level, the combination of character trigram based TF-IDF and neural network with 2 hidden layers outperformed other combinations, achieving an accuracy of 0.47 on the test set. As for the emotion identification at the aria level, a convolutional neural network combined with character trigram based embeddings developed based on a corpus of Italian arias achieved an accuracy of 0:68.

Abstract:
While scholarship often focuses on how early modern Italians used images in their devotions, particularly in the post-Tridentine era, little attention has been placed upon how laypeople engaged with devotional text during times of prayer and in their everyday lives. Studies of early modern devotional texts have explored their literary content, investigated their censorship by the Church, or concentrated upon an elite readership. This thesis, instead, investigates how ordinary devotees interacted with holy words in their material form, which I have termed ‘material prayers’. Since this thesis developed under the aegis of the interdisciplinary research project, Domestic Devotions: The Place of Piety in the Italian Renaissance Home, 1400-1600, it focuses primarily on engagement with these material prayers in domestic spaces. Using an interdisciplinary approach drawing from material culture studies, literary history, social and cultural history, and art history, it brings together objects, images and archival sources to illuminate how devotees from across the socio-economic and literacy spectrums accessed and employed devotional text in their prayers and daily life. From holy words, Biblical excerpts, and prayers to textual symbols like the Sacred Monogram of the Name of Jesus, this thesis explores how and why these material prayers were employed for spiritual, apotropaic and intercessory purposes. It analyses material prayers not only in traditional textual formats (printed books and manuscripts), but also those that were printed on single-sheets of paper, inscribed on jewellery, or etched into the structure of the home. To convey how devotees engaged with and relied upon these material prayers, it considers a variety of inscribed objects, including those sanctioned by the Church as well as those which might be questioned or deemed ‘superstitious’ by ecclesiastical authorities. Sermons, Inquisition trial records, and other archival documents have been consulted to further illuminate the material evidence. The first part of the thesis, ‘On the Body’, considers the how devotees came into personal contact with texts by wearing prayers on their bodies. It examines a range of objects including prayers with protective properties, known as brevi, that were meant to be sealed in a pouch and worn around the neck, and more luxurious items of physical adornment inscribed with devotional and apotropaic text, such as necklaces and rings. The second part of the thesis enters the home to explore how the spaces people inhabited and the objects that populated their homes were decorated with material prayers. ‘In the Home’ begins with texts inscribed over the entryways of early modern Italian homes, and then considers how devotees decorated their walls with holy words and how the objects of devotion and household life were imbued with religious significance through the addition of pious inscriptions. By analysing these personal objects and the textual domestic sphere, this thesis argues that these material prayers cut across socio-economic classes, genders, and ages to embody quotidian moments of domestic devotion as well as moments of fear, anxiety and change.

Esta dissertação tem como objetivo investigar a presença das conjunções em um livro didático de língua italiana para estrangeiros. O material analisado consiste em textos argumentativos, com suas respectivas atividades, presentes nos três volumes da coleção Arrivederci!. Quanto ao aspecto teórico, procuramos apresentar definições de sujeito, língua, texto (KOCH, 2011a, MARCUSCHI, 2008) e argumentação, assim como modelos de competência comunicativa (BACHMAN, 2003; CELCE-MURCIA,2007). Ainda como fundamentação teórica, apresentamos um panorama comparativo das orações coordenadas e subordinadas da língua portuguesa e da língua italiana, bem como taxonomia das conjunções em ambas as línguas. Do ponto de vista metodológico, selecionamos os textos de caráter argumentativo presentes nos livros didáticos selecionados para o estudo, com base na presença de operadores modais (KOCH, 2011b) e elaboramos uma tabela para cada um dos três volumes da coleção, contendo: o número da unidade didática, a seção relativa a cada texto argumentativo, a modalidade (oral ou escrita), a quantidade, a listagem das conjunções e as atividades relacionadas a cada texto argumentativo. Quanto aos resultados obtidos, observamos que há pouca relação entre os textos argumentativos e atividades de produção escrita, potencialmente importantes para o desenvolvimento da competência linguística (SCHNEUWLY&DOLZ, 2004). Verificamos ainda, que os textos argumentativos estão desvinculados da sistematização das conjunções e de atividades explicitamente voltadas para o seu uso. O próprio Quadro Europeu Comum de Referência para as Línguas, base para o planejamento e para a elaboração de materiais didáticos, menciona o ensino da habilidade de argumentar apenas a partir do nível B2. Como último resultado deste estudo, mencionamos o descompasso entre a opinião dos professores sobre a necessidade de trabalhar sistematicamente com as conjunções desde os níveis iniciais e o baixo percentual de atividades e explicitações sobre as conjunções nos livros didáticos analisados.<br>The main goal of this dissertation is to investigate the presence of conjunctions in a textbook of Italian as a foreign language. The analyzed material are argumentative texts with their activities on the three volumes of the collection book Arrivederci!. As for the theoretical aspects, we try to present definitions of subject, language, text (KOCH, 2011a; MARCUSCHI, 2008) and argumentation, as well as the models of communicative competence (KOCH, 2011b; BACHMAN, 2003; CELCE-MURCIA, 2007). We present also for the theoretical aspects a comparative panorama of the coordinated and subordinated clauses in Portuguese and Italian and the conjunctions taxonomy in both languages. At the methodological point of view, we selected the texts in the textbooks that have had an argumentative character, it based on the presence of modals operators (KOCH, 2011b) and we made a table for each one of the volume in the collection. It had: the number of the unit, the section related of the argumentative text, the modality (oral or written), the quantity, a list of conjunctions and the activities related for each argumentative text. As for the results, we observed there is a little relation between the argumentative texts and those written activities, potentially important for the development of language skills (SCHNEUWLY & DOLZ, 2004). We also note, that the argumentative texts are unlink with the conjunctions systematization and activities focused for their use. The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, and Assessment (CEFR) cited the teaching of the argumentation ability on only from level B2. As the last result of this study, we mentioned the gap between the views of teachers on the need to work the conjunctions systematically from the beginners levels and the low percentage of activities and explanations about the conjunctions in the textbooks analyzed.

Today, everyone knows and uses social media. Social media offers a powerful environment for people’s thoughts and feelings and it is an enormous ever-growing source of data ranging from everyday observations to involved discussions. Moreover, it is possible for marketing researchers to analyze these data using two techniques: Text Mining and Sentiment Analysis. The aim of the research reported in this thesis is to analyze the reaction of the Italian population on Facebook about the launch of two new products in the market and, on the other hand, to evaluate the communication solution strategies of two Italians brands. An important step for a company during the launch of a product is the online advertising campaign. A promotional campaign on Facebook is useful to obtain information from user behavior and to understand what they publish on the web. It is necessary to point out that the launch of a new product can lead the company to have an increase in its visibility and consequently an increase in its profit. Therefore, the marketing and advertising action taken during the period preceding the day of launch becomes important. In today's connected world, we have witnessed a strong technological evolution that has led the Web to become a new communication channel. Thanks to the use of digital technologies, people create their own content, retrieve information they want and send messages at any time. Social media constitute a subject challenging source of new information gathering and opinion making. Big companies exploit the potential of social media during the product launch phase in order to directly reach the target audience and subsequently be able to analyze their contents. Try to study the needs, opinions and behaviors of users through the analysis of Social Media has revealed the need to develop new methodologies for the collection, modeling and analysis of data extracted online. These methodologies are: Text Mining and Sentiment Analysis. The tools of Text Mining and Sentiment Analysis are useful to the company to better understand if the actions carried out online have been appreciated by the user. The purpose of Sentiment Analysis, is to discover the "feelings" or the opinions and attitude of the user on a theme through the analysis of the texts published and shared by the users. Text mining, on the other hand, is useful for analyzing and extrapolating textual information on the web and on Social Networks. Both disciplines have found a strong application in the field of marketing and brand management. In this thesis has been analyzed the potential of the two methodologies to study two Italian business cases. The theoretical analysis will start from the concept of development on the use of Social Media and will be applied to the world of the food industry which will be the one related to the two brands analyzed in the case study. A focus will be left to Facebook because it will be the social media used to collect data. In the second chapter will be analyzed the world of data mining, introducing Sentiment Analysis and Text Mining. The study will start from an introduction and then will be described the processes, methodologies and the software used “R”. The third chapter will be devoted to the description of the characteristics of the Social Network of reference, Facebook, and how the data extracted from it can be used for Text Mining and Sentiment Analysis. The last chapter will be the most practical.The collected data will be analyzed, through a dataset. The analysis time period will be related to two distinct moments regarding the launch period of the two products: Nutella Biscuits and Crema spalmabile Pan di stelle. Subsequently the analysis will be made on the two methodologies previously described. The thesis will conclude with a comparison between the results obtained and with personal reflections.

Abstract:
Scholars have considered Italian chamber recitative laments only a transitional phenomenon between madrigal laments and laments organized on the descending tetrachord bass. However, the recitative lament is distinguished from them by its characteristic attitude toward the relationship between music and text. Composer of Italian chamber recitative laments attempted to express more subtle, refined and sometimes complicated emotion in their music. For that purpose, they intentionally created discrepancies between text and music. Sometimes they even destroy the original structure of text in order to clearly deliver the composer's own voice. The basic syntactic structure is deconstructed and reconstructed along with their reading and according to their intention. The discrepancy between text and music is, however, expectable and natural phenomena since text cannot be completely translated or transformed to music and vice versa. The composers of Italian chamber recitative laments utilized their innate heterogeneity between two materials (music and text) as a metaphor that represents the semantic essence of the genre, the conflict. In this context, Italian chamber recitative laments were a real embodiment of the so-called seconda prattica and through the study of them, finally, we more fully able to understand how the spirit of late Renaissance flourished in Italy in the first four decade of the seventeenth century.

Abstract:
The recent uprise of end-to-end speech translation models requires a new generation of parallel corpora, composed of a large amount of source language speech utterances aligned with their target language textual translations. We hereby show a pipeline and a set of methods to collect hundreds of hours of English audio-book recordings and align them with their Italian textual translations, using exclusively public domain resources gathered semi-automatically from the web. The pipeline consists in three main areas: text collection, bilingual text alignment, and forced alignment. For the text collection task, we show how to automatically find e-book titles in a target language by using machine translation, web information retrieval, and named entity recognition and translation techniques. For the bilingual text alignment task, we investigated three methods: the Gale–Church algorithm in conjunction with a small-size hand-crafted bilingual dictionary, the Gale–Church algorithm in conjunction with a bigger bilingual dictionary automatically inferred through statistical machine translation, and bilingual text alignment by computing the vector similarity of multilingual embeddings of concatenation of consecutive sentences. Our findings seem to indicate that the consecutive-sentence-embeddings similarity computation approach manages to improve the alignment of difficult sentences by indirectly performing sentence re-segmentation. For the forced alignment task, we give a theoretical overview of the preferred method depending on the properties of the text to be aligned with the audio, suggesting and using a TTS-DTW (text-to-speech and dynamic time warping) based approach in our pipeline. The result of our experiments is a publicly available multi-modal corpus composed of about 130 hours of English speech aligned with its Italian textual translation and split in 60561 triplets of English audio, English transcript, and Italian textual translation. We also post-processed the corpus so as to extract 40-MFCCs features from the audio segments and released them as a data-set.

Abstract:
The folio of musical works supported by this document, explores the relationship between text and music. Using a variety of textual sources, from a single line of text to an epic poem to political speeches, has produced six pieces in which the relationship of the text to the music is figured in different ways; these range from the literal setting of a text to music to the abstracting of a text into a musical piece. In each case the form of the original text has been an important factor in influencing the form of the musical works. Gender considerations impact on this folio in two ways: firstly, gender is a key issue in some of the texts used as inspiration for the pieces, particularly Guinevere (2007) and Hilary &Maggie (2009).' Secondly, the folio explores how the position as a female composer affects engagement with both music and text. Finally, the folio works are related to the importance of Italian nationality to the composer. This supporting contextual document sets out the framework within which the folio was composed. It draws out the three main research threads that are explored in the folio: music and text, gender, and the Italian cultural perspective. Each thread of research is discussed with some contextual information given first, followed by an analysis of how this category impacts on the folio works.

Esta pesquisa visa ao estudo dos marcadores conversacionais presentes em textos humorísticos, para o desenvolvimento da oralidade em Língua Italiana. Para tanto, foram selecionados os marcadores mais utilizados em Italiano, presentes em piadas e narrativas curtas, para a elaboração de atividades junto à oficina Imparare litaliano con humorismo, que contou com a participação de doze alunos voluntários de nível pré-intermediário, no Centro de Línguas Antônio Houaiss, município de Jundiaí, estado de São Paulo. Para a seleção das atividades humorísticas, apoiamo-nos nas macro estratégias propostas por Kumaravadivelu (2003),como princípios norteadores para a prática em sala de aula; na pedagogia do Pós-Método e na abordagem comunicativa. Com base nos estudos de Margonari (2001 e 2006), que já comprovou que o humor é um recurso didático que facilita o processo de ensino-aprendizagem de língua estrangeira, favorece o desenvolvimento da criatividade, é agente motivador e reduzo filtro afetivo dos aprendizes(KRASHEN, 1982),formulamos a hipótese subjacente a este trabalho, ou seja, o humor pode auxiliar no desenvolvimento da competência comunicativa em Língua Italiana, contribuindo para o aprimoramento das habilidades linguísticas, principalmente as orais. Como metodologia da pesquisa, utilizamos a análise qualitativa dos dados obtidos por meio das filmagens das aulas, fotografias, notas de campo com as observações e reflexões da pesquisadora, comentários sobre as aulas feitos oralmente ou por escrito pelos alunos e os questionários inicial e final, segundo a perspectiva da pesquisa qualitativa proposta por Bogdan e Biklen (1994). Dentre as contribuições de nosso estudo, destacam-se a necessidade de refletir e ensinar os marcadores conversacionais e conectivos também de modo sistemático e explícito, para que os estudantes consigam compreender suas funções e usá-los em seus discursos orais e textos escritos. Além disso, ressaltamos a importância de se trabalhar conteúdos considerados mais difíceis por parte dos aprendizes com o recurso do humor, que torna a aula mais dinâmica e mais leve. A vantagem em relação a sua utilização para o estímulo e aperfeiçoamento da oralidade dos alunos é, portanto, o fator da atmosfera descontraída criada em sala de aula, propiciando aos estudantes um contexto de ensino mais tolerante aos erros, inspirando-lhes autoconfiança, baixando a ansiedade, reduzindo o filtro afetivo, permitindo que se expressem com mais frequência e liberdade.<br>This research aims to study text markers present in humorous texts for the development of the Speaking skill in Italian language. Therefore, the most used text markers in Italian were selected, especially the ones which are present in jokes and short stories, in order to elaborate the activities developed for the workshop Learning Italian with Humor, which was attended by twelve volunteer students from pre-intermediate level at the Language Center Antônio Houaiss, in Jundiaí, São Paulo state. For the selection of humorous activities, we rely on the macrostrategies proposed by Kumaravadivelu (2003), as guiding principles for practice in the classroom; on the Postmethod condition and the communicative approach. Based on studies of Margonari (2001 and 2006), who has already proved that humor is an educational resource which facilitates the process of teaching and learning a foreign language, favors the development of creativity, is a motivating agent and reduces the affective filter of students (KRASHEN, 1982), we formulated the hypothesis underlying this work, that is, humor can help in the development of communicative competence in Italian language, contributing to the improvement of language skills, especially the oral ones. As research methodology, we used the analysis of qualitative data obtained through recording video lessons, photographs, field notes with observations and reflections of the researcher, comments on the lessons made orally or in writing by the students and on the initial and final questionnaires, according to the perspective of qualitative research proposed by Bogdan and Biklen (1994). Among the contributions of our study, we highlight the need to reflect on and teach conversational and text markers in a systematic and explicit way, so that students can understand their functions and use them in their oral speeches and written texts. In addition, we emphasize the importance of working with contents which are considered as difficult ones by the learners, using humor as a resource, which makes the lessons more dynamic and \"lighter\". The advantage over its use for the stimulation and improvement of studentsoral abilities is, therefore, the factor of the relaxed atmosphere created in the classroom, providing students an educational environment more tolerant to errors, inspiring them with self confidence, lowering anxiety, reducing the affective filter, allowing them to express themselves more often and with freedom.

Abstract:
The present work analyzes the interaction between intra-party politics and party system, focusing on inter-factional bargaining dynamics within Italian parties (from 1946 to 2010). We provide a game-theoretic model based on the ‘exit, voice and loyalty’ framework that helps to understand intra-party decision-making and factional bargaining under the threat of a party fission. Starting from our theory we derive several hypotheses concerning the degree of factionalism, the patterns of portfolio allocation (office payoffs) and party position-taking (policy payoffs) and the determinants of faction breakaways. These hypotheses will be tested thanks to data gathered from party congresses. These data allow to shed light on how factional bargaining shape the party and, through it, the whole political system. We will focus on the impact of internal rules, assessed by looking at party statutes, as well as on the effect of divergent factional preferences, measured through a quantitative text analysis applied to congress motions presented by party factions. We also take into account the impact of exogenous elements like the electoral rules or party system competitiveness. Our results shown that factions are driven by policy, office and electoral motives. For the sake of preserving party unity the whole amount of payoffs available within a party is shared among all factions in proportion to their strength in party body. Consensual dynamics are enhanced when the need for party unity increases, such as in competitive party systems or when new general elections approach. Under very competitive conditions, powerful minorities may even exploit their blackmail power by threatening to break away in order to increase their quota of payoffs. On the contrary in low competitive environments the party leader will trade unity for cohesion, and will overpay the mainstream faction no matter the danger of a split carried out by internal minority. This effect is even more clear among parties whose leader is selected by party members through a direct election. By appealing directly to members and voters, the leader is able to get rid of factional constraints and she will exploit this larger degree of autonomy to reward her followers. However, when party unity is an issue at stake even autonomous leader will revert to fair dynamics of payoffs allocation in order to keep the party together. Consensual dynamics are in fact a deterrent for party fission. On the other side other elements contribute to preserve party unity. Among them, disproportional electoral systems, preference voting and the loyalty effect, while low democratic party statutes and centralized decision-making processes tend to increase the probability of party breakup. To conclude, our research shown the effect of factional politics on policy-making, coalition bargaining and in the electoral market. Intra-party division seems to decrease MPs cohesiveness in roll call votes lowering party effectiveness in policy-making. Heterogeneity jeopardizes also party’s chance to get in office, unless autonomous leaders manage to solve the problem of credible commitment. In addition, when factional strife ends up in a party splits, the party will suffer a loss that seems to be proportional to the strength of the splinter group. To sum up, going beyond the assumption of party as unitary actor, we proved that parties are the output of an inter-factional bargaining where factional preferences, leader autonomy and party system conditions interact and impact on the internal decision-making process wielding effects on the whole political system.

Thesis advisor: Franco Mormando<br>Tra il 1410 e 1411, di ritorno dal suo viaggio di formazione in Grecia, il giovane Guarino tradusse in latino il Περὶ παιδῶν αγογὴς, opuscolo contenuto nel corpus dei Moralia e attribuito ad un maestro del circolo di Plutarco. Il testo greco riassumeva concetti educativi fondamentali nell’antichità, suggerendo un modello di educazione che mirava a formare un uomo laico, cittadino consapevole dei suoi doveri familiari, civili e religiosi. Questo concetto educativo, consono alla sensibilità umanistica di Guarino, spiega la sua scelta di tradurre in latino l’opera greca. Il De liberis educandis rappresenta, dunque, dal punto di vista del contenuto, un importante divulgatore di principi educativi per i secoli a venire e, dal punto di vista linguistico, una preziosa fucina di quel nuovo latino che andava formandosi all’inizio del XV secolo e di cui Guarino è uno dei primi artefici. Questo studio si propone di sottrarre il De liberis educandis dall’ombra e di aggiungere osservazioni sulla controversa attività di Guarino come traduttore. Sulla base di un dettagliato confronto linguistico tra l’originale greco e la versione latina di età umanistica, si può concludere che Guarino traduceva il testo greco con precisione, pur permettendosi qualche libertà dal punto di vista linguistico e culturale, come si dimostrerà con precisi riferimenti testuali. O mito de Orfeu assinalou a produção literária de autores clássicos, marcando presença também em obras modernas e contemporâneas. Na literatura brasileira, a obra Orfeu da Conceição, texto dramático de Vinícius de Moraes, buscou promover o diálogo entre a mitologia grega clássica e as raízes culturais brasileiras através da incorporação de elementos órficos. Publicada em 1956, com o subtítulo Tragédia Carioca, alcançou sucesso significativo no âmbito literário e cinematográfico. Destacou-se pelas adaptações e referências ao mito original no interior de sua trama, que transcorre nos morros do Rio de Janeiro entre as décadas de 1950 e 1960. Pasquale Aniel Jannini, pesquisador e acadêmico italiano, publicou em 1961 a tradução de Orfeu da Conceição em língua italiana, sob o título Orfeo Negro. Através do cotejo entre original e tradução, constituiu-se um corpus de termos e expressões que evidenciam marcas culturais entre os textos. Após essa etapa, estes dados foram submetidos à classificação e análise através do modelo Modalidades de Tradução, de Francis Henrik Aubert (1998). Esse modelo consiste em uma metodologia de pesquisa tradutológica derivada de conceitos elaborados por Vinay e Darbelnet acerca de procedimentos técnicos da tradução. Um dos principais diferenciais do modelo em questão liga-se à possibilidade de análise quantitativa e tipológica dos elementos destacados na tradução. A metodologia selecionada para a observação de Orfeu da Conceição e Orfeo Negro considera, ainda, a tradução como um ato de comunicação que ocorre entre indivíduos e entre grupos sociais, assumindo sua função frente a culturas, ideologias e diferentes pontos de vista. A proposta de estudo destes marcadores culturais levantados pretende analisar aproximações e afastamentos entre Orfeu da Conceição e Orfeo Negro, assim como refletir acerca de peculiaridades e traços interculturais expressos entre os textos. Aplicando-se metodologia de Aubert (1998) aos marcadores culturais identificados, verificou-se uma maior incidência da modalidade modulação, o que evidencia uma tradução predominantemente domesticadora, de acordo com os conceitos de Venuti (1999). Verificou-se também uma incidência significativa de erros dentre as modalidades mais recorrentes. Ainda que a tradução em questão seja considerada domesticadora, é relevante o fato de que contém inserções de elementos estrangeirizadores, também de acordo com a conceituação de Venuti (1999). Em nosso estudo, buscamos ainda observar se o ciclo da tradução se completaria em um eventual leitor brasileiro, conhecedor do idioma italiano, em termos de reconhecimento próprio e de sua cultura no texto traduzido. Para tal questionamento, obtivemos resposta positiva, somada ao fato de que a leitura do texto original, Orfeu da Conceição, pode ser enriquecida pela análise contrastiva e pelo contato com a tradução Orfeo Negro.<br>Orpheus myth has marked literary production of classic authors, and made its presence felt in modern and contemporary literary works as well. On Brazilian literature, Orfeu da Conceição, a dramatic work by Vinícius de Moraes, aimed to promote the dialog between classic greek mythology and Brazilian cultural roots by incorporating orphic elements. Published in 1956, with the subtitle Tragédia Carioca (Carioca Tragedy), it has achieved significant success at the literature and movies scopes. It has stood out by the adaptations and references to original the myth inside the story, which takes place at the shanty towns of Rio de Janeiro city between the decades of 1950 and 1960. Pasquale Aniel Jannini, an Italian researcher and academic, published in 1961 the translation of Orfeu da Conceição into Italian language, under the title Orfeo Negro. By comparing the original text to the translation, it has been composed a corpus of terms and expressions that highlight cultural markers between the texts. After that step, these data had been classified and analyzed by the theoretical model Translation Modalities, by Francis Henrik Aubert (1998). This model consists of a translation research methodology derived from the concepts made by Vinay and Darbelnet concerning technical procedures of translation. One of the main differentials of this model is the possibility of making a quantitative and typological analysis of the highlighted elements on translation. Besides, the methodology selected for the observation of Orfeu da Conceição and Orfeo Negro, understands translation as a communication act between individuals and between social groups as well, taking on its role when comes to cultures, ideologies and different points of view. The purpose of the study of these collected cultural markers attempts to analyze approximations and distances between Orfeu da Conceição e Orfeo Negro, as well as to reflect on particularities and intercultural traits expressed between the texts. By applying the methodology of Aubert (1998) to the identified cultural markers, we have verified a major occurrence of the modality modulation, which has evidenced a predominant domesticating translation, according to the concepts of Venuti (1999). We have also verified a significant occurrence of errors among the most common modalities. Although this translation is considered a domesticating translation, it is relevant the fact that it contains the insertion of foreignizing elements, also according to the conceptualization of Venuti (1999). In our study, we have also aimed to observe if the cycle of translation would complete itself by an eventual Brazilian reader who knows the Italian language, in terms of self-recognition and recognition of his or her own culture on the translated text. For such question, we have reached an affirmative answer, added to the fact that the reading of the original text, Orfeu da Conceição, can be enriched by the contrastive analysis and the contact with the translation Orfeo Negro.

The goal of this thesis is to analyze the textual composition of René Goscinny’s Astérix and Le petit Nicolas, demonstrating how they differ and why. Taking a statistical look at the comparative qualities of each series of works, the structural differences and similarities in language use in these two series and their respective media are highlighted and compared. Though one might expect more complicated language use in traditional text by virtue of its format, analysis of average word length, average sentence length, lexical diversity, the prevalence of specific forms (the passé composé, possessive pronouns, etc.), and preferred collocations (ils sont fous, ces romains !) shows interesting results. Though Le petit Nicolas has longer sentences and more relative pronouns (and hence more clauses per sentence on average), Astérix has longer words and more lexical diversity. A similar comparison of the albums of Astérix written by Goscinny to those of Uderzo, paying additional attention to the structural elements of each album (usage of narration and sound effects, for example) shows that Goscinny's love of reusing phrases is far greater than Uderzo's, and that the two have very different ideas of timing as expressed in narration boxes.

Abstract The purpose of this article is to interpret a selection of El Greco’s Italian paintings (1560-1576) based on Bible texts in which ideas current during the Catholic Counter- Reformation are symbolised. At the age of nineteen El Greco, who was born in Crete in 1541 and was initially an icon painter in the Byzantine tradition, went to Venice. Through study and experiment, and by following the examples of other artists who had achieved artistic mastery and was of proven Catholic orthodoxy, he educated himself as an artist in the Western manner. Even during his years as an apprentice El Greco’s art is proof that he aspired to the highest humanly accessible values exemplified by Renaissance artistic theory, humanism and Christian spirituality — all of which later came to fruition in an unprecedented original combination in Toledo, Spain, where he settled permanently in 1577.

Le misure topologiche tipiche dei network sono state calcolate sui testi letterari, poi sono state studiate le loro distribuzioni e i loro valori medi, per capire quali di esse possono distinguere un testo reale da sue modificazioni. Inoltre si è osservato come tutti i testi presentino due importanti leggi statistiche: la legge di Zipf e quella di Heaps.

Esta dissertação de mestrado trata do ensino do italiano como língua estrangeira (LE) a universitários brasileiros cuja língua materna (LM) é o português brasileiro. Esses estudantes estão inscritos no curso de graduação em Língua e Literatura Italiana da Universidade de São Paulo e, no que concerne à aprendizagem da LE, estão nos níveis A2-B2 do Quadro Comum Europeu de Referência para as Línguas (QCERL, 2001). O objetivo da pesquisa é analisar os recursos participativos, indicadores das formas de colaboração e aprendizagem, empregados pelos estudantes na realização de atividades didáticas que compõem as fases de um curso baseado na metodologia Glottodrama para o ensino de línguas. Segundo Nofri (2010), por meio do uso de técnicas teatrais no ensino de LE, o Glottodrama tem, entre os seus objetivos, o desenvolvimento da habilidade de produção oral dos aprendizes de maneira que essa produção seja mais semelhante à comunicação que acontece fora da sala de aula. A abordagem adotada para a análise dos dados do corpus deste estudo fundamenta-se nas teorias de aquisição-aprendizagem de línguas, que visam à construção da competência comunicativa do aprendiz; e nos estudos interacionistas, que consideram a aquisição da língua como resultado de uma abordagem didática baseada na aprendizagem colaborativa. A partir da análise das sequências dialógicas, percebemos que, enquanto trabalhavam em grupo, para realizar as atividades didáticas para a teatralização de um texto, no plano metalinguístico, os estudantes assumiram papéis sociais distintos, de acordo com as próprias competências comunicativas (FERRONI; BIRELLO, 2013; CAMPS, 2005), e realizaram movimentos de auto e heterocorreções (DE PIETRO, MATTHEY e PY, 1989) para negociarem a compreensão do input e a melhora do output (SWAIN, 1985, 2005). No plano metacomunicativo (CILIBERTI, 2016; BATESON, 1972), os estudantes optaram pela interação criativa, em que prevaleceu o uso da LE de forma autêntica. Conclui-se que esse contexto de aprendizagem favoreceu a utilização de recursos participativos nas atividades comunicativas de forma semelhante a contextos naturais; aumentou a motivação e a integração social. Além disso, o uso funcional da LE forneceu aos estudantes a oportunidade de desenvolvimento do próprio sistema linguístico.<br>This study refers to teaching Italian as a foreign language (from A2 to B2 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (QCERL, 2001)) to Brazilian undergraduate students, whose mother tongue is Brazilian Portuguese and take their major in Italian Language and Literature at the University of São Paulo. Our aim is to analyze the participative resources, which indicate ways of collaboration and learning, taken by the students at their performance of didactic tasks that compose the steps of a course based on Glottodrama language teaching methodology. According to Nofri (2010), Glottodrama intends to develop students\' oral ability by bringing more authentic communicative environments to the foreign language class, using theatre techniques. The corpus analysis is based on theories of language learning and acquisition, which have the objective of constructing the learner\'s communicative competence; as well as we take into consideration interactive studies, for they see interaction as a mutually constructed communicative event, leading to language acquisition and learning. The analysis of the dialogic sequences points that, whilst students had group work in order to do the didactic tasks for the theatralization of a text, on a metalinguistic level, they took different social roles, according to their own communicative competences (FERRONI; BIRELLO, 2013; CAMPS, 2005), and they also performed moves of self and peer-correction (DE PIETRO, MATTHEY e PY, 1989) in order to negotiate input understanding and output improvement (Swain, 1985, 2005). On a metacommunicative level (CILIBERTI, 2016; BATESON, 1972), the students took creative interaction, and authentic foreign language use prevailed. Therefore we may conclude that this learning context benefitted the use of participative resources in communicative tasks, similarly to natural contexts, and it also improved motivation and social integration. Nevertheless, the functional use of the foreign language has provided students with and opportunity of developing their own linguistic system.

Ce travail de recherche propose une intégration de la psychologie dans la sociologie. Un modèle théorique de la psychologie, qui interprète les comportements des acteurs sociaux et les relations sociales comme le produit des processus inconscients collectifs, a été utilisé afin d'étudier un phénomène sociale: le changement culturel face à la promulgation des lois. En particulier, le changement culturel survenu suite à la promulgation des lois en faveur des personnes ayant un handicap en Italie et en France a été étudié. Dans ce but, une procédure d'analyse textuelle afin d'étudier les phénomènes sociaux a été développée, testée et utilisée pour comprendre de quelle manière la promulgation des lois sur le handicap a produit un changement culturel au niveau national, de la formation universitaire et du marché du travail. Les résultats indiquent que la procédure développée offre un gain notable en terme de temps et de ressources, permettant de mettre en relation les catégories inconscientes avec les comportements des acteurs sociaux. Ils mettent aussi en évidence les différences entre l'actuelle représentation du handicap et celle du passée décrite en littérature. Les lois semblent, donc, activer un changement culturel produisant des pratiques innovantes qui s'associent à des formes de culture caractéristiques. En conclusion l'utilisation du concept d'inconscient social afin d'étudier les phénomènes sociaux semble permettre une meilleure compréhension des comportements des acteurs sociaux<br>This research proposes integration between psychology and sociology. A psychological theoretical model conceiving behaviors and social relationships as the product of the social unconscious processes was used to study a social phenomenon: the cultural change produced by laws enactment. In particular, the cultural change occurred following the enactment of laws for people with disabilities was studied in Italy and in France. To this end, a text analysis procedure to study social phenomena was developed, tested and used to understand how the enactment of laws on disability produced a cultural change on a national scale, in university training and on the labour market. Results show that the analysis procedure produces a significant gain in terms of time and resources, allowing to connect the unconscious categories with social actors' behaviors. They also highlight the differences between the current representation of disability and that of the past described in literature. Therefore, the laws enactment seems to enable a cultural change producing innovative practices that are associated with peculiar forms of culture. In conclusion the use of the concept of social unconscious to study social phenomena, seems to facilitate the understanding of the actors' behaviors

Teaching Italian as a second language using drama texts as the main didactic tool stimulates learners' emotional and motivational involvement. The aim of this project is to develop a didactic methodology that is able to trigger learners' emotions and sustain their initial motivation, thus resulting in a better and more stable mnemonic retention of the linguistic input. The 1st chapter provides an overview of the neuroscientifical specifics of the acquisitional and memory process and of the main theories of motivation. The 2nd chapter discusses the features, aims and techniques of teaching Italian as a second language through drama texts, as well as its strengths and weaknesses, in the frame of humanistic-affective studies. The 3rd chapter stresses the importance of outlining the learner's profile, a table of the student's multiple intelligences, motivational drivers, cognitive and learning styles and main characteristics of his/her interlanguage. Ultimately, the last part describes a project of teaching Italian as a second language using didactically-adapted plays experimented in a multicultural class of adult learners.

La tesi si focalizza sulla tematica dell’impairment test dell’avviamento. In particolare, si propone di analizzare il livello di conformità delle società italiane quotate rispetto alle previsioni e alle informazioni richieste dallo IAS 36. Dopo aver analizzato l’evoluzione degli studi sul concetto di avviamento nell’ambito della dottrina economico-aziendale e nella normativa nazionale e internazionale, viene affrontata la problematica della perdita durevole di valore. Si evidenzia, nello specifico, che il tema della perdita durevole di valore è sempre stato presente in ambito nazionale e che ha assunto particolare rilevanza in seguito all’introduzione dei principi contabili internazionali. L’introduzione della verifica di impairment dell’avviamento fin dal suo esordio ha colto l’attenzione non solo di Studiosi accademici, ma anche di analisti finanziari, investitori e di tutti gli stakeholder interessati all’andamento delle imprese e ai risultati dei loro bilanci. Nel lavoro si evidenzia che a causa della complessa articolazione del test, che si basa sullo sviluppo di processi valutativi articolati che richiedono competenze tecniche elevate, e degli ampi gradi di discrezionalità lasciati ai redattori del bilancio, l’effettiva applicazione del test potrebbe non avvenire in totale conformità a quanto stabilito dallo IAS 36. A causa della complessità e dell’ampia discrezionalità lasciata, il principio potrebbe non essere di facile applicazione e portare a non agire in totale conformità a quanto previsto dal principio stesso. Comprendere i comportamenti tenuti dalle aziende in merito all’applicazione del test risulta quindi cruciale per verificare eventuali comportamenti conformi oppure difformi (o distorsivi) ed identificarne eventuali cause. La letteratura finora si è focalizzata principalmente sulla correlazione tra la svalutazione dell’avviamento e il prezzo delle azioni e su come l’impairment test dell’avviamento possa favorire comportamenti opportunistici. Ad oggi sembrano essere carenti gli studi su come l’impairment test venga implementato in pratica Pertanto, la tesi si pone l’obiettivo di esaminare come le società italiane quotate si siano comportate in riferimento alla conduzione dell’impairment test dell’avviamento dal 2010 al 2012, al fine di verificare il livello di compliance di tali società rispetto alle previsioni e alle informazioni richieste dallo IAS 36. Ai fini dell’indagine, sono stati analizzati i bilanci consolidati delle società italiane quotate dal 2010 al 2012, periodo particolare di crisi, e che negli stessi anni hanno rilevato l’avviamento nei loro bilanci. L’attenzione si è focalizzata sulla definizione delle CGU e sul valore recuperabile, aspetti ritenuti critici dalla letteratura. Nel caso in cui si siano verificate delle situazioni di non conformità nell’implementazione del test, sono stati esplorati i fattori che hanno portato a determinati comportamenti. I risultati sono stati anche messi a confronto con quelli di un’indagine riguardante gli anni 2007, 2008 e 2009, sulla cui scia si pone l’analisi condotta nel presente lavoro.<br>The thesis focuses on the impairment test of goodwill. In particular, it aims to analyze the level of compliance of Italian listed companies to forecast and information required by IAS 36. After analyzing the evolution of studies on the concept of goodwill as part of the business management doctrine and in national and international legislation, the issue of impairment has been tackled. In the present case it has been highlighted that the issue of impairment was always present at national level, and it has become particularly important since the introduction of international accounting standards. The introduction of goodwill impairment test since its debut has caught the attention not only of academic scholars, but also of financial analysts, investors and all stakeholders interested in the performance of business and the results of their budgets. The work points out that, due to the complex structure of the test, which is based on the development of structured evaluation processes requiring high technical skills, and a considerable degree of discretion left to the management, the actual application of the test could not be performed in total compliance with the provisions of IAS 36. Due to the complexity and the large degree of discretionary power, the standard may not be easy to apply and it may lead to act in no full compliance with the requirements of the standard. Understanding the behavior required by companies as the application of the test is concerned, is therefore crucial to check for compliant or dissimilar (or distorting) behavior and identify the possible causes . Literature so far has focused mainly on the correlation between the impairment of goodwill and the stock price and how the impairment test of goodwill may favor opportunistic behavior. At present, studies on how the impairment test is implemented in practice seem to be lacking. Therefore, the thesis aims to examine how the Italian listed companies have behaved in relation to the impairment test of goodwill in the time span 2010-2012 , in order to assess the level of compliance of these companies compared to forecast and information required by IAS 36. For the survey, an analysis has been carried out on consolidated financial statements of companies that were listed on the Italian Stock Exchange, during the years 2010-2012, a period of crisis and that in the same period recorded goodwill in their financial statement. The attention is focused on the definition of CGU and on the recoverable amount, considered critical aspects by literature. In the event that there had been situations of non-compliance in the implementation of the test, factors that led to certain behaviors have been explored. The results were also compared with those of a survey covering the years 2007, 2008 and 2009, in the wake of whom the analysis conducted in this paper stands.

I crediti considerati non performing sono una fonte di rischio elevata, in grado di gravare fortemente sulla redditività degli istituti bancari e sulla stabilità del sistema finanziario. Il fenomeno si è ingigantito e propagato a partire dagli anni della crisi dei mutui subprime, e ha obbligato le autorità di vigilanza ad intervenire attraverso l'emanazione di regolamentazioni sempre più rigorose con cui si obbligava le banche a sviluppare sistemi efficaci di gestione del credito in grado di permettere un tasso di recupero e una ristrutturazione adeguata delle esposizioni creditizie. L'elaborato comincia con una rassegna generale della regolamentazione emanata dall'autorità di vigilanza nel corso del tempo, approfondendo sia gli aspetti in tema di gestione del rischio di credito sia quelli riguardanti la governance societaria. Si procede con la spiegazione delle componenti di rischio, la probabilità di default, la perdita in caso di insolvenza e il tasso di recupero. Si accenna al processo che porta all'erogazione e al monitoraggio del credito e si pone, inoltre, l'attenzione sul passaggio di una esposizione da credito in bonis a credito deteriorato e le relative conseguenze. Si analizzano le diverse strategie che gli istituti possono adottare per gestire le esposizioni deteriorate. A tal fine, in base a dati annui di fonte ISTAT-SVIMEZ per il periodo 1970-2003, viene sviluppato un modello econometrico regionale 'globale' per il mercato del lavoro italiano, estendendo un precedente modello mono-regionale proposto da Baussola (2003), ad un contesto pluri-regionale. Il modello conduce non solo a rappresentare soddisfacentemente i mercati regionali italiani, ma opera altresì efficacemente nel ricostruire i valori delle variabili a livello nazionale. Il modello si conferma robusto ed efficace nel rappresentare le realtà regionali, anche nell'ottica di analisi propria dell'econometria delle serie storiche.<br>The starting point of this thesis is the remark that recent decades have been characterized by a rising complexity in the economic and political context both at the national and international level. This is due both to the European economic and monetary integration process and to the regional decentralisation process. With the aim of providing a useful tool of analysis for the decision-maker,. a 'global' regional model for the Italian labour market has been constructed on the basis of annual data from ISTAT-SVIMEZ over the 1970-2003 period. This model could be viewed as an extension to a multi-regional framework of the previous one-region model developed by Baussola (2003). The model shows good performance not only in representing regional labour market specificities, but also in reproducing national variable values. It is also robust and effective in a time-series context.

Questa affermazione è riscontrabile anche in ambito economico e, di conseguenza, è necessario che le reazioni di un possibile cliente vengano correttamente interpretate. Nell’elaborato verrà analizzato il processo di sviluppo di un nuovo prodotto, con particolare attenzione al BASES model, attualmente il più importante test di simulazione commerciale nell’industria della ricerca di mercato. Questo modello aiuta le aziende a prevedere la futura domanda del nuovo prodotto e ad analizzare il mercato, con la premessa che “il consumatore non sempre rispetta ciò che ha precedentemente affermato”. Infatti, le differenze culturali portano le persone a rispondere in maniera diversa ad una domanda ben precisa. Di conseguenza, è necessario comprendere le modalità di espressione italiane e cinesi così da poter correttamente interpretare le risposte dei consumatori. Lo scopo di questa tesi è quindi quello di evidenziare le differenze culturali che portano ad un divario nei test di mercato tra l’intenzione di acquisto e l’effettivo comportamento del consumatore. Verrà dunque proposta una risposta al quesito “perché se l’intenzione di acquisto di un cinese è inferiore a quella di un italiano, nei dati post vendita risulterà il contrario? Ovvero che il cinese avrà acquistato di più?”

2017 - 2018<br>The research project proposes a chronological reconstruction of the birth, development and early stages of Sociology structuring in Italy, from national unification to the establishment, in 1962, of the Higher Education Institute of Social Sciences of Trento. The construction of a chronology imposes the assumption of a historical perspective, indispensable for an analysis that aims to outline, in a temporal sequence, the forms assumed by a knowledge linked to a history of individuals, ideas and facts and "their mutual relationships within a given society" (Mills, 1959, p. 16). The general goal presupposes the elaboration and implementation of a series of specific objectives, firstly based on the reconstruction of the "structure of that particular society as a whole", in its social, economic, political, cultural components and their relationships (ibid). The investigation tries to consider the socio-historical premises that determine, from the middle of the 19th century, even if in a contradictory and discontinuous way, the development of social analysis with its theoretical and methodological instruments, and the various legitimation and delegitimization phases faced by sociology in the scientific and academic fields. The primary objective of this study is to propose an innovative methodological approach to investigate the relations among National Parks and tourists. The literature about the relationship among tourists’ perception, involvement, place attachment and satisfaction in national parks is still scarce: the few available studies provide only a mere description of the numbers of visits in protected areas, sometimes comparing the development over the years. As a result, it became necessary investigate the relationship between parks and tourists and analyze tourists’ attitudes in a different way, in a dynamic way. To fill the gap, this study aims to analyze the personal experiences of individuals through netnography, investigating the case of the Gran Paradiso National Park. The decision to use netnography is justified by the fact that travel and tourism destinations are increasingly subject of discussions on online community, where visitors share their own experiences. The proposed methodological approach integrates netnography with techniques of text mining. The results showed an interesting variety of opinions. In particular, the nature and landscapes of the Park are appreciated, but the offer of the Park, in terms of type and number of possible excursions but also museums, is not perceived by the visitor in a complete way. Finally, cluster analysis showed the presence of three different types of visitors: nature, recreation and sports. The knowledge of their characteristics combined with findings from the analysis of word associations provides interesting suggestions for management.

2014 - 2015<br>The present research handles the detection of linguistic phenomena connected to subjectivity, emotions and opinions from a computational point of view. The necessity to quickly monitor huge quantity of semi-structured and unstructured data from the web, poses several challenges to Natural Language Processing, that must provide strategies and tools to analyze their structures from a lexical, syntactical and semantic point of views. The general aim of the Sentiment Analysis, shared with the broader fields of NLP, Data Mining, Information Extraction, etc., is the automatic extraction of value from chaos; its specific focus instead is on opinions rather than on factual information. This is the aspect that differentiates it from other computational linguistics subfields. The majority of the sentiment lexicons has been manually or automatically created for the English language; therefore, existent Italian lexicons are mostly built through the translation and adaptation of the English lexical databases, e.g. SentiWordNet and WordNet-Affect. Unlike many other Italian and English sentiment lexicons, our database SentIta, made up on the interaction of electronic dictionaries and lexicon dependent local grammars, is able to manage simple and multiword structures, that can take the shape of distributionally free structures, distributionally restricted structures and frozen structures. Moreover, differently from other lexicon-based Sentiment Analysis methods, our approach has been grounded on the solidity of the Lexicon-Grammar resources and classifications, that provides fine-grained semantic but also syntactic descriptions of the lexical entries. According with the major contribution in the Sentiment Analysis literature, we did not consider polar words in isolation. We computed they elementary sentence contexts, with the allowed transformations and, then, their interaction with contextual valence shifters, the linguistic devices that are able to modify the prior polarity of the words from SentIta, when occurring with them in the same sentences. In order to do so, we took advantage of the computational power of the finite-state technology. We formalized a set of rules that work for the intensification, downtoning and negation modeling, the modality detection and the analysis of comparative forms. With regard to the applicative part of the research, we conducted, with satisfactory results, three experiments on the same number of Sentiment Analysis subtasks: the sentiment classification of documents and sentences, the feature-based Sentiment Analysis and the Semantic Role Labeling based on sentiments. Dans les années 2000, le phénomène de contamination des genres et l'influence du progrès technique ou scientifique cohabitent avec quelques ingrédients traditionnels comme le crime, l'enquête. La tension entre nécessité d'innover et exigence de lisibilité détermine l'horizon d'attente du destinataire de l'oeuvre. Les expectatives de ce dernier s'intègrent aux divers éléments qui élargissent la communication autour des récits et forment le paratexte. Ces données situées à la périphérie des textes facilitent l'appréhension d'une évolution générique car elles rapprochent processus créatifs, données descriptives et discours critiques. Elles permettent également une confrontation entre fiction et monde de référence du lecteur. La mise en perspective d'un tel processus implique en outre l'intensification des pratiques intertextuelles. Ainsi, les citations et allusions abondent dans un univers romanesque caractérisé par sa dimension autoréflexive. Il s'agit d'accroître les potentialités combinatoires de l'oeuvre indépendamment de la résolution d'une affaire criminelle à travers l'enchâssement des textes et la mise en abyme de l'écriture. In the first decade of the twenty-first century, the phenomenon of genre contamination and the influence of technological or scientific progress co-exist with traditional elements such as the crime and the investigation. The tension between the need to innovate and the demand for readability determine the horizon of expectation of the reader. The reader's uncertainties are integrated with the different elements Chat extend the communication around the narratives and that form the paratext. These elements situated on the periphery of the text make it easier to grasp the evolution of a genre as they bring together the creative processes, issues related to description, and critical discourses. Likewise, they make it possible to bring into relation fiction and the referential world of the reader. Putting such a process into perspective also entails the intensification of intertextual practices. Thus, citations and allusions abound in a fictional universe characterized by its self-reflexive dimension. It is a matter of increasing the combinatorial potential of the work, independently of the resolution of the criminal plot, by means of embedded texts and the mise en abyme of writing. Le corpus, qui regroupe seize manuscrits italiens et français (avec la traduction de Laurent de Premierfait), permet d’élaborer une étude sur les rapports entre une œuvre littéraire, foisonnante et complexe comme le Décaméron, et les nombreuses illustrations que ces ouvrages contiennent. Pour être efficace et effective, l’image a besoin de se fonder sur le texte de Boccace. Cependant, les illustrateurs doivent aussi contenter leurs commanditaires et se conformer à leurs volontés, quitte à s’éloigner de l’œuvre originelle.La présente recherche se centre ainsi sur le passage du texte à l’image — en s’intéressant particulièrement à la littérarité de l’illustration, souvent fondée sur les potentialités visuelles du texte. Les manuscrits enluminés sont systématiquement replacés dans leur contexte culturel, social et historique, compte tenu du rôle joué par le lecteur/commanditaire, essentiel pour la compréhension de chaque miniature.Cette étude s’efforce ainsi d’analyser les ressources dont disposent les enlumineurs. Elle met en lumière l’incroyable adaptabilité dont font preuve ces artistes à part entière pour illustrer le texte qui constitue leur principale source<br>The corpus consisting of 16 manuscripts (with the translation by Laurent de Premierfait) allows us to elaborate a study on the relationship between a piece of literature as abundant and complex as the Decameron, and the numerous illustrations that these works contain. To be efficient and effective, an image needs to be based on Boccaccio’s text. However illustrations must also satisfy their commissioner and comply with their wishes, even away from the original work.This research focuses as well on how to move from text to image — with particular attention on the literariness of illustration, often based on visual potential of the text. The illuminated manuscripts are systematically placed in their cultural, social and historical background, taking into account the essential role played by the reader and commissioner to understand each miniature.This study thus attempts to analyse the illuminators’ ressources. It highlights the incredible adaptability shown by these artists in their own right to illustrate the texte as their main source

The present research was carried out at UCL and may be considered an 'action-research', being the result of theoretical reflections and didactic applications. It originated in the observation that learning the Italian language was not perceived by ab initio students as connected to their personal and academic experiences. An initial hypothesis was formulated that an early introduction to literary texts accompanied by tasks could favour the interlanguage development in ab initio University students. Furthermore, this development, mainly as far as written production is concerned, might be facilitated in learners who are specifically guided and trained to elaborate a written input, which might be recognized by them as 'meaningful', thanks to noticing and attention management tasks, and to production tasks, which have a relevant influence on the re-organization of forms and meaning. In other words, this action-research aimed at verifying how written performance in ab initio students was activated by the Task Based Approach and reflected the integration of language and content through the acquisition of written skills in Italian. The method of the three year study (2002-05) can be described as a qualitative approach in any stage: pre-actional, i.e. selection of literary texts and of appropriate tasks actional, i.e. organization of texts and tasks into modules and collection of data post-actional, i.e. systematic analysis of students' productions and feedbacks. In order to carry out this action-research, a course was devised and was called Text and Task Course (TTC), in which literary texts were the starting point and the model necessary to process language through specific tasks. So linguistically easy literary extracts of about 300 words each have been selected to represent different written text types such as letters and dialogues, poems and ballads, narratives and descriptions, each of them dealing with topics familiar to the learners. Each text was accompanied and enhanced by pre-, while- and production tasks. Production tasks in particular favoured the re-elaboration of texts and combined representational structures with controlled attention. Measures for the assessment of written production during TTC were: Holistic Rating, which included fluency and creativity Accuracy Ratios, which included intelligibility index and error index Complexity Ratios, which included dependent and coordinate clauses per t-units ratio and re-elaboration of a model or text type. Each of these parameters have been analytically described and applied. In the light of these considerations, it seems consistent to claim that the positive results in written production, after a relatively short time of instruction, were influenced by the training Texts and Tasks learners (TTL) received in the TTC and their interlanguage development was favoured by the constant re-elaboration of written input. In conclusion, the initial hypotheses were confirmed and the Text and Task approach, under given circumstances, was validated.

Cette étude vise la description des propositions relatives en ancien italien, en tenant compte aussi bien de leurs particularités syntaxiques que de leurs fonctions sémantiques. On a utilisé un corpus de textes toscans en prose des siècles XIIIe et XIVe, parmi lesquels figurent plusieurs traductions italiennes de textes en ancien français : de telle façon on a pu saisir les similarités et les différences entre les deux langues dans le domaine de la relativisation. La thèse est divisée en deux parties. Après un examen des contributions les plus importantes sur la définition et la typologie des propositions relatives, dans la première partie on a essayé de comprendre le fonctionnement et les spécificités des différentes stratégies de relativisation employées, à la lumière des facteurs syntaxiques et des besoins informatifs. Dans la deuxième partie, on a envisagé les fonctions sémantiques et pragmatiques des relatives. La description des occurrences provenant du dépouillement des textes est amenée en utilisant une classification tripartite, reposée sur la distinction entre restrictives, prédicatives et non restrictives<br>The essay focuses on headed relative clauses in Old Italian assuming both a syntactic and textual perspective. Such research is based on a corpus of Tuscans texts in prose (XIIIth- XIVth centuries). The corpus contains also various texts translated from the Old French, so that make possible a comparison between Old Italian and Old French in this syntactic domain, the essay presents two sections. Other than a discussion on the most important contributions to the study of of the relative clauses, the first section deals the syntactic features of these structures in the ancient prose. L’applicazione alle immobilizzazioni della procedura di impairment test e della relativa mandatory disclosure richiesta dai principi contabili nazionali ma soprattutto internazionali costituiscono uno dei temi maggiormente discussi in letteratura contabile, in relazione ai molteplici fattori di soggettività insiti all’interno delle valutazione previste dallo IAS 36 ma anche dall’OIC 16, 24 e 9 e al conseguente rischio che tale procedura assuma la caratteristica di essere uno strumento di politiche di bilancio. Mediante un’indagine comparata di bilanci di società italiane quotate nell’indice FTSE MIB dal 2010 al 2013, si intende verificare l’ipotesi per la quale esista una relazione positiva tra il grado di informativa richiesta dallo IAS 36 circa l’impairment test e l’entità delle successive svalutazioni presenti nelle note di bilancio. A tal ragione, il presente lavoro fornisce una panoramica delle analisi empiriche già effettuate in materia, riconoscendo un gap d’indagine nel quale si intende apportare dei rilevanti contributi. Nel far ciò, si presuppone che la qualità della disclosure esprima il livello di affidabilità con cui si applicano i dettati degli standards contabili, potendo così accertare l’ipotesi secondo la quale le società che non svalutino i propri assets, pur in presenza di indicatori di perdita, rappresenti un segnale di un’informativa sull’impairment non esaustiva e insoddisfacente.

In questo elaborato viene trattato il tema dello stress test bancario a livello Europeo, specificatamente quello intercorso nell’anno 2014 che ha sottoposto a verifica un campione di 123 banche indagandone la robustezza e solidità patrimoniale di fronte a scenari plausibili e severi con l’intento di perseguire una maggiore stabilità del sistema bancario europeo e accrescere la fiducia degli operatori in esso. Il primo capitolo offre un quadro di riferimento ovvero tratta brevemente i tre Accordi sul capitale redatti dal Comitato di Basilea che hanno rivoluzionato il tema del requisito patrimoniale. Il secondo capitolo parla in maniera approfondita dello stress test del 2014, cominciando da una panoramica circa le caratteristiche del comprehensive assessment alla stesura dei risultati dello stress test che hanno evidenziato un sostanziale miglioramento della solidità del sistema bancario. Viene descritto ampiamente il trattamento dei vari rischi considerati e gli scenari creati dalla BCE e dal ESRB. Nel terzo capitolo si affronta un’ analisi per Paese e poi per singola banca nell’intento di confrontare la situazione italiana con quella tedesca; acquisendo un occhio critico nei confronti dei risultati del test.

Following the implementation of South Tyrol’s Statute of Autonomy, the public administrations of the Autonomous Province of Bozen/Bolzano are legally bound to the bilingual publication of laws and administrative acts. This results in a strong demand for translation of legal-administrative texts, usually from Italian into German, which could be satisfied, at some extent, by integrating machine translation (MT) in the institutional translation workflow. In this setting, a crucial aspect is also represented by the local South Tyrolean legal-administrative terminology, which is of central importance in institutional translation, exhibits peculiar features with respect to other German-speaking countries, and has emerged as the main issue when machine-translating Italian legal-administrative texts into South Tyrolean German. The purpose of the present study is to adapt an MT system (ModernMT) by means of a parallel corpus of legal-administrative texts and to evaluate it both in terms of overall MT performance and in terms of legal terminology evaluation, by automatically matching and categorising the legal terms produced by the MT engine within a fine-grained taxonomy. Results showed that the domain-adapted engine achieved a substantial and promising improvement in MT performance (+9 BLEU), yielding a relatively good score of 35 BLEU. As for legal term translation, the proposed automatic evaluation approach provided insights about terminology improvements both on a quantitative and qualitative level. The domain-adapted engine correctly translated 2746 out of 3503 legal terms of the test set (term accuracy: 78.39%), significantly outperforming the generic ModernMT system by 3.31%. The most substantial improvements were observed with regards to standardised/recommended legal terms. Despite the significant improvements in term translation accuracy, however, the adopted domain-adaptation approach did not achieve a systematic enhancement in legal terminology translation.

Il presente lavoro vuole essere una commistione tra teoria e pratica, tra l’intricata legislazione bancaria che caratterizza l’odierno scenario europeo di continui cambiamenti e la pratica econometrica, con analisi quantitative, metodi matematici e statistici per produrre modelli atti a creare relazioni economiche. Lo studio vuole analizzare, anzitutto, la storia della regolamentazione bancaria, per comprendere appieno come si sia arrivati alle attuali normative; esso si concentrerà anche sugli stress test dell’European Banking Authority (EBA), autorità direttamente responsabile del loro svolgimento ed esecuzione, che, insieme alle altre autorità di vigilanza, ha lo scopo di valutare l’adeguatezza patrimoniale per determinare se gli intermediari finanziari dispongano di capitale sufficiente a reggere possibili impatti di natura sfavorevole e peggiorativa rispetto all’attuale. Da qui nasce l’analisi di scenario per valutare le diverse situazioni che una banca si trova costretta ad affrontare. A tal fine, lo studio si concluderà con la costruzione di un modello econometrico satellite per analizzare il maggior rischio per le banche: il rischio di credito, legato principalmente al deterioramento di esposizioni creditizie, che da crediti in bonis si trasformano in sofferenze bancarie, i cosiddetti Non-Performing Loans (NPL). Il modello comprenderà l’utilizzo di variabili macroeconomiche e finanziarie rilevanti per arrivare a prevedere l’andamento futuro del Tasso di Decadimento.

L'objectif majeur de la these a ete l'analyse des mecanismes figuratifs de la mise en image de venise, ainsi que de l'horizon culturel qui a produit une telle elaboration mythique. Trois grands themes permettent une approche globale du mythe venitien. Le premier niveau pris en compte est celui de l'imagerie religieuse, avec notamment toute la rhetorique de la virginite de la ville : le dogme de l'immaculee conception en constitue une base majeure, de meme que l'image de la sedes apentiae, amenant ainsi certaines representations a montrer venise participant aux mecanismes theologiques du salut. La metaphore venise jerusalem va tout a fait dans le meme sens; les ecrits d'observateurs et de voyageurs etrangers constituent evidemment ici, une source majeure. Un second niveau d'analyses est fourni par l'imagerie politique : la representation de la justicia est l'un des grands modeles de l'auto-representation de venise, de meme que le parallele majeur avec constantinople. Le temps et ses categories semantiques fournissent un troisieme horizon : rien n'est veritablement comprehensible sans la prise en compte de la conception "circulaire" du temps venitien. Le parallele avec rome s'impose a cet egard, de meme que l'utilisation du vocabulaire antique : l'image de venus, elle aussi nee de la mer en est l'une des composantes les plus pertinentes tant au travers de sa banalite que de son paradoxe<br>The major objective of this dissertation has been the analysis of the figurative mechanisms of the pictural representations of venice, as well as the cultural background which produced such a mythical elaboration. The global approach of the venetian myth is carried through three fundamental themes. The primary level taken into consideration is that of religious imagery, including more specifically the whole rhetoric of the city's virginity : the dogma of the immaculate conception makes up one of its major foundations, as well as the image of the sedes sapientiae inspiring some pictures representating venice directly partaking of the theological mechanisms of salvation. The venice jerusalem metaphor belongs to a similar context, one of the chief sources being of course the writings of foreign observers and travellers. The political imagery constitutes the second tier of our analysis : the representation of justicia is one of the great models of venice self-representation, along with the major parallel with constantinople. Time and its semantic variations are the third aspect of our dissertation : nothing can be properly understood without stressing the venitian notion of "circular" time. A comparison with rome is in this respect of paramount importance, along with the use of vocabulary of ancient rome : image of sea-born venus is one of its

Il presente lavoro di tesi consiste principalmente nell’elaborazione di un test di ripetizione di frasi a ristrutturazione, per indagare la competenza di bambini monolingui italiani con diagnosi di disturbo dell’apprendimento. In particolare, viene testata la competenza dei soggetti nell’uso dei pronomi clitici, per determinare se eventuali differenze nella performance siano dovute a differenze di caso (accusativo e dativo), di persona (prima, seconda e terza persona singolare) o legate alla posizione del pronome clitico (proclitica o enclitica) rispetto al verbo. I dati di 18 bambini tra i 6 e i 9 anni con diagnosi di DSA sono stati confrontati con quelli di bambini a sviluppo tipico, frequentanti le classi prima, seconda e terza della scuola primaria. Ai partecipanti sono stati somministrati due diversi test: il primo per la produzione elicitata di pronomi clitici di terza persona singolare (adattato da uno studio precedente di Arosio e collaboratori, 2014); il secondo di ripetizione, costituito da 55 frasi semplici (49 sperimentali più 6 filler) con verbi modali e di moto. La ripetizione non è mai stata usata per studiare i pronomi clitici in italiano; questa ricerca offre dunque una tipologia di dati mai raccolta in precedenza.

Les études historiques sur la critique de théâtre se déclinent sous de multiples approches, toutefois cette dernière ne fait que rarement l’objet de questionnements épistémologiques spécifiques. La préposition « Pour », premier mot du titre de ce travail de recherche, manifeste le désir de constituer un ouvrage qui mette en exergue les rouages de la critique, ses structures et ses protocoles en la considérant comme un objet autonome d’enquête historiographique. Nous avons ainsi forgé des outils d’analyse adaptés en lien avec le cadre méthodologique des recherches revuistes. Les revues et journaux des critiques ont constitué l’ossature de notre thèse permettant de dénouer son fil directeur : la réforme du protocole critique texto-centré. Nous avons structuré le plan de la thèse en suivant le fil rouge de cette réforme de ses premières remises en question en 1952, en France et en Italie, lors du discours de Jean Vilar « Le Théâtre et la soupe » et du décès de Benedetto Croce jusqu’à la disparition, respectivement en 1994 et 1996 de Bernard Dort et Giuseppe Bartolucci, initiateurs de la modification de ce protocole par l’introduction du concept d’« écriture scénique » dans le vocabulaire de la critique. Cette recherche repose sur l’analyse de nombreux fonds d’archives conservant périodiques et documents en partie inédits<br>Although the studies on the history of theatre review and critique have followed different approaches, the critique itself has rarely narrowed its focus on a specific epistemological question. The word towards, in the title of this research, expresses the desire of designing a first study for analysing the mechanisms of critique, its structure and its protocols, considering it as an independent object for the historiographical analysis. We have therefore developed some appropriate analytical tools, based on the methodology used by researches published in magazines. Critics’ magazines and journals have formed the framework of this thesis, from which its main thread has been unveiled, namely the reform of the text-centred critical protocol. The thesis plan has been structured following this common thread from the first signs of the reform in 1952, found in France and in Italy after the death of Benedetto Croce and Jean Vilar's speech « The theatre and the soup », until Bernard Dort and Giuseppe Bartolucci, who started the modification of the protocol by introducing the concept of « scenic writing » in the vocabulary of criticism, died in 1994 and 1996, respectively. Le imprese bancarie, per loro natura, dipendono estremamente dalle valutazioni di bilancio per i loro risultati economici, molto più che negli altri settori. Per questo motivo il primo capitolo descrive le tappe più importanti dell'evoluzione del bilancio avvenuto negli ultimi anni, in particolare di quello bancario che deve rispondere a criteri più restrittivi rispetto ad altri settori. Successivamente si è approfondito il tema della contabilizzazione delle immobilizzazioni immateriali e dell' avviamento, secondo i principi contabili internazionali e si è introdotto la procedura di impairment che ha modificato notevolmente la valutazione delle attività iscritte in bilancio. Nel quarto capitolo si è voluto osservare come tali principi, in modo particolare lo IAS 36, sono stati effettivamente interpretati dai maggiori gruppi bancari italiani e come questi hanno ritenuto di pubblicare le informazioni relative ai metodi di valutazione delle attività immateriali a vita indefinita.
