In this essay, I reflect on textbook writing after three decades of participating in the activity. I address the following questions: What perspective should textbooks take? What is the best approach to teaching microeconomics? What is the best approach to teaching macroeconomics? How does the content of the introductory course evolve? How much material should textbooks include? Are textbooks too expensive? How is digital technology changing the market for textbooks? Who should become a textbook author? ( JEL A22)

At war's end, introductory economics textbooks were overdue for a revolutionary advance. Change conspired to tempt the author to bring to the beginning course the rudiments of Keynesian macroeconomics. The impact was explosive. In reaction to criticisms of the subsequent evolutionary revisions, the author here describes the transition beyond the 1936 Model T General Theory paradigm from the standpoint of advances on the frontier, at the same time correcting erroneous claims about the saving process. Finally, he tells the tales of rightist censorship of Lorie Tarshis's 1947 pioneering Keynesian

This paper undertakes to illustrate how the two leading intermediate accounting textbooks published between the 1930s and 1950s, by Finney and Finney/Miller, regularly critiqued recommended and accepted practice, and proposed innovations, while the tendency in today's textbooks is solely to describe and codify standards and practice and therefore not to stimulate students' and instructors' critical thinking. The author recommends that today's textbook authors should emulate Finney and Finney/Miller.

AbstractLinear scar is a common problem in all fields of surgery as it leads to unpleasant appearance that is not socially acceptable. In particular, linear scars in the exposed areas such as face, neck, and upper extremities cause significant psychological disturbance to patients who need proper medical assistance to release their suffering. The author proposed tissue remodeling strategy on an existed linear scar using FMRT (fractional microplasma radiofrequency technology) to render gross view of a linear scar less visible or non-visible by changing the scar tissue architecture. Similar concept is also applied to the intervention of an early-stage wound to significantly alter the natural process of wound healing via FMRT-mediated change of the histological architecture of a wound, and thus to prevent the formation of a grossly visible linear scar. This chapter introduces the general background information, FMRT concept, and its application on linear scar treatment and prevention with the presentation of several typical cases.

This paper is an assessment of the topical coverage of current Managing Information Systems (MIS) textbooks. The MIS course is normally required of all undergraduate and graduate business majors , and therefore is their primary education in the use of IS/IT in the modern technology-oriented organization. This paper presents a new approach to solving beam deflection problems. The approach involves the direct application of derived force-deformation formulas, a procedure commonly used with axial and torsion bar problems. This direct application of derived force-deformation formulas, referred to by the authors as Method of Segments, is extended to beam deflection analysis in order to provide a solution procedure for beams that is consistent in philosophy and application with that presented in most mechanics of materials textbooks for axially loaded bars and torsionally loaded shafts.
