Abstract:
The textbook describes the methods of graphical representation of the results of the calculation of physical and engineering problems, represented by specialized programs and operating system tools. The graphic capabilities of the MATLAB package, which, along with powerful calculation tools, has excellent computer graphics, are studied in detail. A number of visualization tasks are solved by computer graphics programming methods in C++. The GDI GUI functions are used from the set of system API functions that the Windows operating system provides to the user. All examples in C++ are tested in the Visual Studio 2008 project development environment. The issues of interaction between the MATLAB package and programs written in C++ in the Visual Studio environment are considered. Brioni, Simone, and Shirin Ramzanali Fazel. Scrivere di Islam. Venice: Edizioni Ca' Foscari, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.30687/978-88-6969-411-0.

Full text
Abstract:
Scrivere di Islam. Raccontare la diaspora (Writing About Islam. Narrating a Diaspora) is a meditation on our multireligious, multicultural, and multilingual reality. It is the result of a personal and collaborative exploration of the necessity to rethink national culture and identity in a more diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist way. The central part of this volume – both symbolically and physically – includes Shirin Ramzanali Fazel’s reflections on the discrimination of Muslims, and especially Muslim women, in Italy and the UK. Looking at school textbooks, newspapers, TV programs, and sharing her own personal experience, this section invites us to change the way Muslim immigrants are narrated in scholarly research and news reports. Most importantly, this section urges us to consider minorities not just as ‘topics’ of cultural analysis, but as audiences and cultural agents. Following Shirin’s invitation to question prevailing modes of representations of immigrants, the volume continues with a dialogue between the co-authors and discusses how collaboration can be a way to avoid reproducing a ‘colonial model’ of knowledge production, in which the white male scholar takes as object of analysis the work of an African female writer. The last chapter also asserts that immigration literature cannot be approached with the same expectations and questions readers would have when reading ‘canonised’ texts. A new critical terminology is needed in order to understand the innovative linguistic choices and narrative forms that immigrant writers have invented in order to describe a reality that has lacked representation or which has frequently been misrepresented, especially in the discourse around the contemporary Muslim diaspora.

Varlamov, Oleg. Mivar databases and rules. ru: INFRA-M Academic Publishing LLC., 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.12737/1508665.

Full text
Abstract:
The multidimensional open epistemological active network MOGAN is the basis for the transition to a qualitatively new level of creating logical artificial intelligence. Mivar databases and rules became the foundation for the creation of MOGAN. The results of the analysis and generalization of data representation structures of various data models are presented: from relational to "Entity — Relationship" (ER-model). On the basis of this generalization, a new model of data and rules is created: the mivar information space "Thing-Property-Relation". The logic-computational processing of data in this new model of data and rules is shown, which has linear computational complexity relative to the number of rules. MOGAN is a development of Rule - Based Systems and allows you to quickly and easily design algorithms and work with logical reasoning in the "If..., Then..." format. An example of creating a mivar expert system for solving problems in the model area "Geometry"is given. Mivar databases and rules can be used to model cause-and-effect relationships in different subject areas and to create knowledge bases of new-generation applied artificial intelligence systems and real-time mivar expert systems with the transition to"Big Knowledge". The textbook in the field of training "Computer Science and Computer Engineering" is intended for students, bachelors, undergraduates, postgraduates studying artificial intelligence methods used in information processing and management systems, as well as for users and specialists who create mivar knowledge models, expert systems, automated control systems and decision support systems. Full text
Abstract:
This chapter argues that representations of “Hindoo religion” functioned in American national culture to reinforce a white Protestant American identity. The chapter analyzes representations of “Hindoo religion” in American public school textbooks and the popular magazine Harper’s New Monthly Magazine. Public school textbooks constructed an anthropology through which they understood human difference. These textbooks ranked human difference across categories of race, civilization, and religion. They taught American children that they were part of a superior enlightened, white, Protestant identity. Similarly, magazines such as Harper’s New Monthly Magazine use “Hindoo religion” as a foil for superior white American Protestantism. American popular culture thus constructed American identity by representing the Hindoo Other.

Roberts, Anthea. Comparing International Law Textbooks and Casebooks. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780190696412.003.0004.

Full text
Abstract:
International law textbooks, casebooks and manuals are important to study as they help to reveal how international law is understood, found, and interpreted by the current generation of international lawyers in a particular state and how this conventional wisdom is passed on to the next generation. These books play a significant socializing role in shaping international lawyers’ knowledge of which issues are core, which sources are important, which debates are controversial, which norms are settled, and who and what the leading authorities are. This chapter compares the books that are used to teach international law in the five permanent members of the Security Council. Using case studies (e.g., humanitarian intervention and state sovereignty) and visual representations (e.g., citation patterns of case law), this chapter sheds light on how nationalized, denationalized, and westernized the books from these states are in terms of their substance, sources, and approaches.

Morning, Ann. The Constructivist Concept of Race. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780190465285.003.0004.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter follows up on the issue of the American public's reception of constructivist ideas. Interviews were conducted with anthropologists, biologists, and undergraduate students, and a sample of high school textbooks was consulted due to their better representation of what is being taught to the general public than college-level textbooks. Most of the textbooks transmitted essentialist views of the definition of race. When undergraduate students were asked how they would define race, most equated race with culture or utilized biological descriptions. The professors with essentialist views believe the academics who see race constructively are not real or competent scientists, and vice versa. Because natural sciences hold a prestige advantage over social sciences, essentialism has the upper hand when it comes to perceptions of scientificity.

Abstract:
Monoidal category theory serves as a powerful framework for describing logical aspects of quantum theory, giving an abstract language for parallel and sequential composition and a conceptual way to understand many high-level quantum phenomena. Here, we lay the foundations for this categorical quantum mechanics, with an emphasis on the graphical calculus that makes computation intuitive. We describe superposition and entanglement using biproducts and dual objects, and show how quantum teleportation can be studied abstractly using these structures. We investigate monoids, Frobenius structures and Hopf algebras, showing how they can be used to model classical information and complementary observables. We describe the CP construction, a categorical tool to describe probabilistic quantum systems. The last chapter introduces higher categories, surface diagrams and 2-Hilbert spaces, and shows how the language of duality in monoidal 2-categories can be used to reason about quantum protocols, including quantum teleportation and dense coding. Previous knowledge of linear algebra, quantum information or category theory would give an ideal background for studying this text, but it is not assumed, with essential background material given in a self-contained introductory chapter. Throughout the text, we point out links with many other areas, such as representation theory, topology, quantum algebra, knot theory and probability theory, and present nonstandard models including sets and relations. All results are stated rigorously and full proofs are given as far as possible, making this book an invaluable reference for modern techniques in quantum logic, with much of the material not available in any other textbook.
