L’idée dominante de cette péricope peut se résumer comme suit : Qohélet parodie les textes légendaires au sujet de Salomon ainsi que les éloges propagandistes des autobiographies royales du Proche-Orient ancien, afin de relativiser la valeur de la sagesse et du savoir, et de souligner l’impuissance des êtres humains à modifier, bonifier ou enrichir l’oeuvre que Dieu a lui-même tordue.
