Abstract:
Abstract The paper addresses the topic of the unavoidability of contradiction in dealing with issues of scepticism – and how coherence can be restored to sceptical arguments and texts. It considers six classic paradoxes in the history of Western thought – of how language works to undermine and derail the coherence of thought. It also theorizes a philosophy of language approach to restore coherence in the classic instances discussed. As its major example, the paper explores how and why the image of successful, long-standing constitutions is a minimalist image through a discussion of the relationship between epistemological scepticism generally and textual scepticism specifically.

Abstract:
Reading is a highly complex cognitive process. From a neurobiological point of view, it involves at least six linguistic sub-competences including orthographic, semantic, syntactic, phonetic and prosodic competence. Each of these skills is required of the reader to extract different types of information from the text, ranging from the perceptual and the syntactic to the lexical and pragmasemantic one. Based on the main results of cognitive-oriented research on text and reading, this paper illustrates how prosodic competence, combined with formal coherence patterns, can be considered and employed as a reading strategy, enabling the reader to progressively grasp the meanings of a text. In the first part particular attention will be paid to the description of the syntax-prosody interface as well as of its function as a means of encoding of information structure in German. With regard to the teaching of German as a foreign language, the second part of the paper will present a method to train intonational reading. This approach aims to raise foreign language readers’ awareness of prosodic features of written texts and to introduce them to melodic patterns which can be encountered while reading. Such a practical training may prove to be advantageous, as the most typical and apparently “uncorrectable” errors committed by foreign language learners when speaking and reading German texts are almost always related to the domains of phonology and prosody.

Abstract:
Gesetze gelten als anspruchsvollste juristische Textsorte; als normative Texte drücken sie Verhaltensvorschriften aus, indem sie ein bestimmtes Tun oder Unterlassen gebieten, verbieten oder gewähren. Obwohl die meisten eine klare Makrostruktur aufweisen, wird ihre Rezeption aufgrund der „mangelnden“ Textkohärenz wesentlich erschwert. Als normative Texte zeichnen sie sich durch einen hohen Grad der Abstraktheit aus, was einen verdichteten sowie konzisen und somit einen schwerer verständlichen Stil zur Folge hat. Außerdem unterscheiden sich Gesetze von allen anderen juristischen Textsorten durch die stark normierte sprachliche Formulierung: Für sie ist allgemein ein unpersönlicher Stil mit der Verwendung von Indefinitpronomen und des Passivs sowie nominalisierter Strukturen charakteristisch. So ist der Umgang mit Gesetzestexten wesentlich anspruchsvoller als der Umgang mit informativen Rechtstexten – selbst für Fachleute, geschweige denn für juristische Laien. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden einige grundlegende Charakteristiken der deutschen normativen Rechtssprache dargelegt, und zwar am Beispiel des Bürgerlichen Gesetzbuches (BGB), das als Meilenstein des deutschen Rechts gilt.

Abstract:
Unter DidaktikerInnen für Deutsch als Zweitsprache (DaZ) herrscht weitgehend Konsens darüber, dass die Ursache für schulisches Scheitern nicht an mangelnden mündlichen Kommunikationsfähigkeiten in der Umgangssprache liegt. Entscheidend für den Bildungserfolg ist der Erwerb des im Unterricht verwendeten (schriftnahen) Registers, welches sich durch ein hohes Maß an Planung, Informationsverdichtung, Textkohärenz/-kohäsion und lexikalischer Präzision und Variation auszeichnet (vgl. Koch & Oesterreicher 1994). Es ist dieses hohe Sprachregister mit all seinen Facetten, das im Fokus des Tübinger Theaterprojekts 'Stadt der Kinder' steht. Die gesamte Arbeit am Theaterstück (mit der gemeinsamen Erschließung, Verdichtung und Modifizierung von Text, dem Versprachlichen von Emotionen und Bildern, dem Schaffen imaginärer Welten durch Worte usw.) bietet hierfür ein ideales Setting. Auf der Basis von Evens Dramagrammatik wurde ein dramapädagogisches Sprachförderkonzept entwickelt und erprobt, das einerseits kindgerecht motivierend wirkt und andererseits versucht, den besonderen DaZ-Ansprüchen gerecht zu werden. Die Sprachförderarbeit lanciert eine spezifische registeranhebende Inputanreicherung und bindet Phasen der expliziten Grammatikvermittlung und der Sprachreflexion in den dramapädagogischen Prozess ein. 1
