Abstract:
The article analyses the defining characteristics of a method in textology that is rooted in the idea of a search. The method is described in detail with the example of Aleksey Balakin’s study ‘Was Goncharov the author of Nimfodora Ivanovna?’ [‘Byl li Goncharov avtorom povesti Nimfodora Ivanovna?’]: we follow every step taken by the researcher in his quest for truth about the authorship. The article acknowledges the compelling arguments offered by Balakin to debunk the novella’s long-established but hasty and unfounded attribution to Goncharov and the researcher’s meticulous verification of the style and writing period of the anonymous author against the events in Goncharov’s life and literary career (as well as his known stylistic, ideological and artistic preferences). The article mentions that the search relies on the method of comparative-critical analysis. In addition, the study compares and contrasts the meanings of a search in history and textology. In support of such a comparison, the author refers to theses from Marc Bloch’s The Historian’s Craft.

Abstract:
Signifying practices by which living creatures communicate, are, according to Sebeok, the survival-machines. Accordingly, as represented by the semiotic text analysis or Bakhtin's textology, one can speak about a human survival-machine. This has been studied by different semiotic schools (including the Moscow-Tartu school) referring to language, culture, genre and, importantly, text ideology. In this article, the aspects of textology in Peirce's generalized theory of signs become analysed. After a discussion of the concept of text in Peirce's (published and unpublished) writings, its relationship with semiosis and other Peircean categories isshown. The project of elaborating Peirce-based text-semiotics expects that it must be dramatically different from other sign-theoretical text-theories. This may be a path towards more inter-subjective and creative textology.

Abstract:
The problem that has faced translators over the years is that of holding a happy balance between faithfulness to the SLT and establishing proper communication with the target reader. The purpose of this study is to investigate how translators employ managing or substituting strategies when they are commissioned to engage in translating the popular book Princess in Love by Anna Pasternak for a daily newspaper to provide excitement. In this situation, the translators usually operate within commercial constraints imposed by editors. Intrinsic and extrinsic managing/substituting strategies employed by the translators are discussed through translated texts in order to show the motivation behind using such types of strategies in translation.

Abstract:
The article attempts to consider the institution of complicity from new positions based on the provisions of legislative textual theory. From the standpoint of this approach, when studying the criminal law prescriptions of Chapter 7 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, a two-level structure of the normative text of the institute of complicity was revealed: superficial (constructive) and deep (conceptual) levels. As a conceptual basis for the construction of the criminal law prescriptions of Chapter 7 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the legislator used the theoretical provisions of two concepts: the concept of the accessory nature of complicity and the individual responsibility of the accomplices of the crime. The analysis of the constructive level made it possible to identify elements of the criminal law prescriptions of the institute of complicity, and also made it possible to interpret the normative text in a new way.

Full text
Abstract:
The translationally relevant aim of this PhD is to account for the genre conventions of the LCLF mainly related to the persuasive and directive functions, by analyzing a bilingual corpus of parallel texts according to the method of contrastive textology. Genre conventions in this case are considered by sender types (public vs. private) and subtexts (text constituents functionally, semantically and formally defined) on the hypothesis that they will vary more depending on the sender type than on the language.
The intralinguistic and interlinguistic analysis of the macrostructure and the recurrent textual segments, as well as of the functions (persuasive, referential and directive) characterizing both the LCLF as a persuasive leaflet and its three subtexts does not confirm the hypothesis. It does reflect, however, that the directive and persuasive functions prevail respectively in the public and private sender leaflets, as well as in those belonging to the Spanish and German subcorpora.

Full text
Abstract:
The Ph.D. thesis deals with the Czech author František Gellner. It deliberately endeavours not to exclude any of the segments of his both literary and visual work out of consideration, but to present them all in their heterogeneity, yet in mutual connections. Works of Gellner's art are therefore interpreted in novel ways, especially in consideration of the contexts of the period from which they origin (and above others those contexts that have become obscure and forgotten in the nearly hundred years since the original publication of Gellner's work). The first chapter summarizes the previous critical reception of Gellner's work and at the same time deals with this author's image in the Czech cultural milieu. Analysing some of Gellner's manuscripts, the second chapter aims to describe the specific type of the author's creativity. The third chapter is devoted to the problem of ambiguously constructed national identity of František Gellner and to the impact it had on the ways he dealt with the themes of Jewishness and anti-Semitism. The fourth chapter describes the various relations between Gellner's works and the periodicals these were prepared for. The next chapter is dedicated solely to Lidové noviny, as this was the newspaper periodical with which Gellner co-operated most intensely; the detailed...

Abstract:
Based on Bezruč material, the present thesis entitled Oldřich Králík, Textual Critic and Editor chronologically follows the establishing and development of textological concepts and editorial approaches ofthe said scholar. The central topic is dosely connected with terms of Králík's stratigraphy, synchrony and diachrony, as well as the genetic method. Králík's method is built on temp oral attribution; therefore, the problem of the dating of Bezruč' s work is of crucial importance for the thesis' argument. The thesis also confronts Oldřich Králík' s textological and editorial views with those ofhis opponents. In the series of scholarly disputes, Czech textual criticism defined its subject matter, attempting to define its position within the context of other sciences and humanities, especially linguistics, philology and literary theory, as well as taking its stand in regard to historiography. Simultaneously, fundamental working modes were formulated. Exceeding the home field, the disputes moved to the intemationallevel through the textological/editorial department ofthe Intemational Commitiee ofSlavic Languages. Among others, the debates resulted in the so-called manual of practical text criticism, Editor and Text, published in 1971, which has strongly influenced Czech editorial practice to the present day.

Abstract:
The dissertation thesis Collected Works of Jan Patočka as an Editorial Problem deals with both the samizdat and the printed versions of the collected works of Czech philosopher Jan Patočka (1907 - 1977) and other domestic as well as foreign editions of his work. The Archival Collection of Jan Patočka's Work emerged as the side product, to some extent uncoordinated and intuitive, of the sorting of the author's legacy in the years 1977 - 1989. Nevertheless, the 27 volumes of this unpublished edition represent a fully-fledged attempt to organize a critical edition of Patočka's collected works. At the end of the 1980's, an exile edition was intended, as the outcome of the cooperation of domestic, exiled and foreign community of researchers. The post-revolution Collected Works of Jan Patočka have been published since 1996 and, contrary to the previous series, represent a re-arranged and amended edition. The paper follows the process of scientific reflection, which has accompanied the edition of Patočka's works (both edition series were assembled by the same editorial team of Patočka's disciples.) We describe the use of thematic, chronological and other criteria in the course of the organization of the collected works, the transformation and scope of editorial commentaries, especially when dealing with the areas...

The paper examines the history of the text of the story “Son” by Ivan Bunin. The story “Son” is based on foreign material, which was a rare example for the writer’s pre-revolutionary work. The textology of this story has never been examined before. In the course of work, all six lifetime publications of this work were identified and studied. The selected examples of discrepancies presented in the paper clearly show the movement of the text. It is emphasized that in every publication Bunin most notably worked on improving the psychological portraits of the main characters of the story. Abstract:
The study of the textology of Ivan Bunin’s prose is just beginning. A number of scientific papers have already been published in this important and vital area of research. This paper examines the history of the text of the story “Dreams” by Ivan Bunin. All nine lifetime publications of this work have been collected, studied, and consistently verified. Identified discrepancies are selectively presented (abbreviations, corrections, and additions). As a result of a textual work, three editions of the story “Dreams” were identified: pre-revolutionary edition, popular and late publication. The problem of choosing the main text of this story in the future academic Complete works of the writer is analyzed. A solution to this problem is proposed based on the general principle of choosing the main text in Bunin’s prose that has already been developed.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to propose an etymology of Russ. dial. south взвéнье ‘wolf’s lair’. Existent hypotheses of the word’s etymology seem to be unconvincing in semantic or structural aspects. According to the author’s hypothesis the word is derived from звено. This idea is founded on the author’s reconstruction of initial semantics and genesis of Proto-Slav. *zveno. There are several hypotheses about the origin of Proto-Slav. *zveno, but its etymology remains obscure. In previous work devoted to semantic reconstruction the analysis of Slav. lexical material enabled the author to define repeating semantic elements in Slav. words as ‘part of the whole’ / ‘one of clamped parts’ / ‘space between clamps’. Then the denotatum of Proto-Slav. *zveno was defined as ‘interval, space, orifice with some filling’. So the hypothesis was suggested about the genesis of Proto-Slav. *zveno from Ind.-eur. *ĝhēη- ‘gape’. The defined denotatum of Proto-Slav. *zveno as interval, space allowed the author to suppose that Russ. dial. south взвéнье ‘wolf’s lair’ is derived from звено, with pref. в(ъ)- (instead of usually preferred въз-).

The study continues research in the field of false moravisms in the Old Bulgarian manuscripts. The word дръколь has a fairly long history of use in the Old Bulgarian monuments. Already in the ancient era, before the fall of the reduced vowels in the Old Bulgarian language, a variant дръголь appears and spreads in Middle Bulgarian manuscripts, its continuant probably is Bulgarian dialect word др̀ъгол. Continuants of *drъcolь are presented in South Slavonic languages, while Czech preserved derived from *drъcolь words ascending to дръколне and дръколна. Gospel text of the Old Czech Bible has nothing to do with the translation of Cyril and Methodius. There is no reason to consider дръкол as moravism.

Studying and publication of hymnogpaphical texts raise a lot of problems, especially connected with Slavic services, which were often in constant development and sometimes every copy modifies services, adding new hymns or changing the place of old ones, so we face the problem of how to classify all these copies and how to show a real situation of the service’s development. As a help for hymnographical studies, I propose to create a base, consisting of each hymn with notes related to its text-version in different types of manuscripts and its place in every manuscript. On top of everything an electronic base consisting of different hymns could help a researcher to find a source or a model of Slavic hymns.

Abstract:
The textual comment to the written monuments published contains new lexical, morphological and syntactic variations. The researchers are usually interested in the lexical variations, and primarily synonyms and dialect words used by the scribes, if any. Spoiled readings are traditionally needed for classifying the manuscripts. Part of lexical innovations remain out of view of the researchers. It includes words that were the result of the different interpretation of the text by the scribes, and the polysemantic lexemes that are synonyms in their non-basic rare meanings or associated associatively or conceptually in this context. Such variation is interesting from the point of view of the mental processes and the concepts of the medieval scribe, the idea of which is given precisely by the lexis. The published article considers some lexical substitutions that represent these word groups. The reading of the protograph and several manuscripts of Kormchaya book of the early Russian redaction of the 14th – the end of the 16th century served as the material for the present study.

Abstract:
The complex lexical material of medieval Slavic writing poses the problem of choosing between a lengthy and even hermeneutical interpretation and a short linguistic definition for a specialist in the field of the Old and Medio-Slavic lexicography. On the example of the analysis of the lexeme techenie from the Slavic translation of Kozma Indikoplov’s “Christian Topography” (with Philo of Carpathia’s catenas), the author shows, what a complex lexicological study, including elements of textological analysis and reconstruction of the original translated work, is carried out by a researcher in order to develop the most lapidary definition. Modern Old- and Mediο-Slavic lexicography prefers in such cases to go beyond the traditional strict framework and include additional information in the dictionary entry, which should indicate the validity and correctness of the main definition.

Abstract:
Vynnychenko’s literary works became an object of science studies in 1910s, but there was an interruption in 1930–1990s because of the Soviet Union’s politics. From the beginning of perestroika the researchers of Vynnychenko’s works started again. The great majority of these studies examine the writer’s philosophy meanwhile not enough attention is paid to poetics and textology of Vynnychenko’s works.

Abstract:
For the Middle Ages reading and writing can refer to making copies of books too, and consequently, to variant errors in them. Nowadays, when typing on PC excerpt or transcription of manuscript, we make the same kinds of mistakes, being still at scribe’s type of copying and citing. We can avoid mistakes by using HTR programs for starting SDE-s and using them to copy-paste the part of text we need. With new approaches, close to „old“ Likhachov’s textology, and with digital born editions this field is getting reshaped.
