The calculation of MTBF (mean time between failures) is very important in reliability life data analysis. For different distributions, the values of mean time between failures are always different. This paper uses two different approaches to obtain the TFT-LCD panel life, one is the accelerated demonstration life testing which is performed at the reliability lab during the panel development stage, the other approach is to collect the filed return data from the repair center. In this paper, we collect both of the accelerated demonstration life testing data and filed return data through the repair center for one 14.1” TFT-LCD panel. The least square method is used for the linear regression to get the correlation coefficient from the different distributions, including the Weibull distribution, normal distribution, lognormal distribution and exponential distribution. The distribution of the maximum correlation coefficient is chosen for the optimum TFT-LCD panel life distribution. We also use the max likelihood estimates to get the parameters of the distribution and calculate the panel life value. The deviation of the life value between the accelerated demonstration life testing and field return data is also discussed in this paper.

In liquid crystal display, the circuit diagrams of TFT devices are printed from reticle onto the glass substrate by optical lithography. In this process, the accurate overlay in every structure level must have a serious rule because it affects the quality of lithography. Hence, not only the environmental factors but exposure machine, even the fabrication of reticle, the bending of glass substrate or the measurement error must be controlled. Since each exposure machine possesses its own overlay characteristics, the overlay analysis and compensation is an important assignment in lithography technology. In this research, the first step is to collect the coordinates of measurement positions and the vectors of overlay errors. Then, their geometrical vectors are divided into intrafield and interfield types in order to analyze the cause of each error coefficient. If the compensation is made to any single overlay error coefficient based on the geometrical vectors, over-compensation and divergence may happen. Therefore, a parameter compensation method is proposed in this thesis. Firstly, the best permutation among various parameter combinations is obtained from the experiments. Then, this method is implemented to the sequential glass substrates in the same exposure machine and we observe the variation of overlay errors. The results show that the overlay error of each substrate is continuously reduced and reaches a steady state. Finally, the data is applied to the practical examples in order to improve the yield and promote the efficiency of equipment. In the first-stage experiments, the total error has obviously dwindled by 13% and the error between two sets of data is within 0.015 μm. Moreover, the total error has reduced 8% more in the second-stage experiments. The average of total errors is within (11.1705  1.0685) μm. The result is stable.

This paper proposes a way of reducing current consumption of the TFT LCD method. TFT LCD power consumption of the factors used in the TFT LCD source driver of the OP amplifier architecture and panel loading. So the past a rail to rail type OP amplifier to drive a panel of the channel, replaced by a PN type OP amplifier to drive panel of two channels, this approach re-use a specific pattern when, PN type OP amplifier up than rail to rail type OP amplifier to 50% of the province, the current consumption. And then with the original switch used to control the liquid crystal state of the dot inversion switch column inversion of the way, when the two mix and match to compare the differences. Finally, the paper to experiment with different pattern found to white pattern to do the comparison, PN type OP amplifier architecture with column inversion than rail to rail type OP amplifier architecture with dot inversion province to 90 percent of consumption current. To verify the feasibility of the proposed method in this paper.

The production environment in a traditional 4.5” TFT-LCD factory has changed dramatically over the last five years. Due to new generation factories arising, the traditional 4.5” TFT-LCD factories are forced to accept orders to produce various small size display products instead of make-to-stock products. A large number of products are produced concurrently in a production line. In general, the photo machine is the bottle-neck machine in TFT-LCD array manufacturing process. There are variety types of photo machines existed in a production line. Mask is the main fixture of photo machine. The price of mask is very expensive. There are five photo operations in each product routing. Each operation for each product needs a mask as fixture of the photo machine. The type of mask must match with the type of photo machine. A large numbers of mask types and numbers must be decided. The performance of this decision is the outputs. In this study, we deal with the uncertain demand problem that the uncertain demand is represented by the probability distribution of product mixed. A linear programming model is formulated to decide the type and number of mask for each product to maximize the profit under the constraints of machine capacity. A real case is given to illustrate the decision model. And we also do sensitivity analysis.

In recent years, the TFT-LCD gradually becomes a mainstream of FPDs (Flat Panel Displays), and the request of image quality for a TFT-LCD becomes more and more severe. There are many items such as luminance, chromaticity, contrast, flicker, crosstalk and response time, etc. have to be evaluated for the image quality of display devices. But several of the other items have difficulties during evaluation of image quality, e.g. mura and image sticking. Mura is the most popular defect in producing TFT-LCD, in most cases, and is not easily identified so that those persons identifying mura in the industry need the experienced skill based on the related knowledge. It is thus obvious for manually identifying process by human beings to be costly and inconsistent. To overcome such hardship, an automated process for mura analysis has been considered. In this study, we have investigated, analyzed and quantified the mura phenomena in the image quality of a TFT-LCD and hopefully try to set-up an optical evaluation system for mura. We found that the Cjnd (Just-Noticeable-Difference Contrast) value of the mura with abrupt boundary will be influenced by background luminance, mura size, and mura shape. As the background luminance increased, the Cjnd value decreased. However, when the background luminance was increased to above a threshold value around 172 cd/m2, there was no significant difference in Cjnd to human visual perception for a given mura size. Obviously, the relationship between Cjnd and background luminance was non-linear. Furthermore, the Cjnd value of mura with a smaller size was higher, and the Cjnd value of line type mura was higher than those of the other muras which with the same size but different shape. Besides, the threshold value for human visual perception of mura could be estimated with a graded mura. Comparing the results of Muras with abrupt boundary and graded ones, we also found that any type of mura detectable by human eyes could be estimated by the index of Just Noticeable Difference contrast. Based on the analysis of our results, we modified the Cjnd equation which proposed by SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International), and re-named as MCjnd which was more correlated to human visual inspection. Then, replacing the Cjnd with MCjnd, a new definition of mura level was obtained and called MSEMU, in contrast to SEMU proposed by SEMI. After comparing the analysis results of MSEMU and SEMU, it could be concluded that the MSEMU definition was reasonable and more correlated to human visual inspection for the mura analysis.

The purpose of this thesis is to design the TFT-LCD column driver. This driver contains 6-bit resolution for one sub-pixel, 218 colors and the outputs for 12 sub-pixels. In the scheme of the DAC design, we use two different structures. One is the R-string DAC, and the other is the SC-DAC. The transistors in the whole circuit use the UMC 0.5um processing model to realize. And we use the HSPICE tool to simulate the driver with the input clock frequency being 60 MHz.

LCD has evolved different driver technologies based on its applications. From the signal-interface point of view、there are two main categories: digital and analog. The digital interface is replacing the analog one for its superiority in picture quality、and has unanimously adopted 「dot inversion」 technique to address the problems of crosstalk and flicker in LCD displays. This paper attempts to investigate the root cause of crosstalk in LCD displays operating under dot inversion mode. The investigation involves the following procedures: first of all、starting with circuit deduction to find out the coupling path of parasitic capacitance; secondly、analyzing the impact of parasitic capacitance on liquid crystal as well as storage capacitance; thirdly、using optical instrument to measure spectrum of different display patterns under dot inversion mode; and lastly、calculating the variance of crosstalk based on spectrum data. Through the procedure stated above we can get information about the crosstalk information between the neighboring cells. Crosstalk measurement results show that the crosstalk between neighboring cells is not symmetric.

This study mainly discusses how to improve the electrostatic discharge caused by the Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display (TFT-LCD) production equipment, so as to reduce the bad rate of product production by reducing the damage caused by TFT-LCD. The process of panel manufacturing is an automatic operating machine. During the process, the automatic transmission system of contact separation between the glass substrate and the granite platform is coated. When contact and friction are produced, the electrostatic discharge will directly affect the pixels in the panel display area and the abnormal reduction of the products yield. So to date, the ESD prevention is prevented. Care has an effect that can not be ignored. Electrostatic grounding, electrostatic discharge / dissipation, conductive / dissipative contact and ionization are embodied. The methods and measures of electrostatic protection are studied and some ideas are discussed to reduce the occurrence of electrostatic damage through Laser laser technology to produce high quality and high quality products.

In factory automation, optimization of the material logistics system is an important factor in the improvement of a manufacture process. In the automatic warehousing system of the panel monitory industry, high utility of cranes and excessive waiting for material supply usually occur. This study investigated how to utilize effective information to forecast demands of production lines and provide optimum delivery timing and paths. Finally, through a comparison between the original system and the optimized system, it was found that the optimized system could effectively enhance efficiency and reduce consumption of resources.

Due to the vigorous development of the technology industry in recent years, it is more and more dependent for energy consumption. As the new generation production machines of high-tech plants launched, the area and volume of machines which correspond to TFT-LCD increased, as well as the competitions of mass production scale among the manufacturers. As the panel size increased, the cost of preliminary design is increasingly expensive, the operation power consumption is also growing, and the construction of power capacity grows as well. In this thesis, taking TFT-LCD as an example, carrying out the correlational research between process power consumption and input capacity with power monitoring system . Collecting 760 records of electricity data and input capacity from 2011 to 2012, and then adding up the electricity Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of each process. Being a reference basis of power system for newly-built same generation plants in the future, so that to reduce the cost of preliminary design of power capacity.

Taiwan TFT-LCD industry is positive developed priority to plan by government following industry of the semiconductor. With the wide application of the relevant IT products, the growth kinetic energy of its market will drive the pluralistic demand of the panel. This research sums up relevant strategy theories in literatures reviewed at first, in order to be regarded as the analysis foundation of the company. The thesis investigates the segment of industrial structure and present position situation by the industry analysis then finding the relative advantage of the panel industry in Taiwan from the industry chain of the international division. Secondly, strategic development of investigating five panel factories in Taiwan, it is separately since market segment and resource point of company ability analysis than distinguish the difference from strategy sketch. Finally, finding the difference of their strategy in strategic group from the industry and put the suggestion that the strategy is drafted while shutting or cooperation to development in the future of Taiwan and Mainland China. This research puts relevant results in order as follows: 1.Expand the brand development tactics of the new developing market actively to enhance their profitability and provide own capacity requirements. 2.Integrated forward supply chain with higher speed, offer one-stop service of international brand factory. 3.Taiwan panel manufacturer have to enhance the business model with division between Taiwan and Mainland China, moreover, accelerate itself technological upgrading of core ability.

In this thesis, two types of source drivers for TFT-LCD applications are proposed. The first type is for the application of UXGA TFT-LCD and the second one is for the portable small-scale TFT-LCD. For the first source driver, two high-speed complementary differential buffer are proposed to driver a pair of data lines and to realize a rail-to-rail and high speed drive. The output buffer amplifier achieves a large driving capability by employing a simple comparator to sense the transients of the input to turn on an auxiliary driving transistor, which is statically off in the stable state. This increases the speed without the increasing static power consumption. In the second source driver, reference voltage buffers are turned on and off according to the selected number of colors, to achieve static power control. Also, the proposed source driver utilizes five-level seven-phase charge-recycling method to reduce the dynamic power consumption. A class-B buffer is also proposed to drive variable loads. Since the compensation resistor is not in the charge-recycling network, it will not reduce the speed of the charge-recycling operation.

The TFT-LCD supply chains include various manufacturers. This case study focuses on the competition and cooperation between the upper stream panel makers and down stream system integrators. The study aims to find out the potential systematic integration strategies with the existing resources under the circumstances of both suppliers and customers having stronger negotiation power. Before engaging in the LCD monitor production, Top Victory Technology Group had learned the significance of the economy of scale in the electronic OEM industry. On account of the increasing production amount, the negotiation basis about the raw material prices was substantially supported. Meanwhile, the cost reduction of each item due to the economy of scale advanced profits. At the early stage of LCD monitor mass production, Top Victory Technology Group realized that the only way to defeat competitors was to win the customers’ appreciation for its integrating development and research technologies. As a matter of fact, the growth of the monitor production industry has been slowing down. Concerns for the business continuity, the LCD television widely accepted by the consumers definitely is going to be the star product promoting the sales rapidly. However, the acceptance of a consuming electronic appliance depends on the dialogue between the brand images and the consumers instead of the upper stream panel manufacturers. Therefore, how to relate the appliance to a well-known brand in order to pack up an image for the entire supply chain is the obvious solution to integration in this industry. The notion here is that to take the brand advantage of the upper stream panel manufacturers strengthens the weaknesses of the down stream system integrators. With the concepts of co-design and co-location, from the customer exploration, the product design, to the product sale to the well-known brand factory constitutes on continuous line. This one continuous line, which includes designing, purchasing, producing and selling, enhances the value of the supply chain.

ABSTRACT With the shortening life cycle, intensive competition, declining prices, and heavy cost down pressures in TFT_LCD display industry. In past few years, TFT_LCD manufacturers put tremendous funds on building next generation panel factories: the display market always in oversupply status. In addition, the selling price decline speed is faster than cost reduction speed. TFT_LCD manufactures keep in profitable become more and more difficult. By accelerating next generation panel factory building speed, integrate upstream raw material manufactures’ resource, or ally with other company to reduce manufacturing cost are the major topic for every TFT_LCD manufactures. In this thesis, we will determine whether or not the InnoLux’s “exportation mode” has real advantage in TFT_LCD display industry by using “UNISON Decision Analysis Framework”, “Michael Porter's Five Forces Model”, and “SWOT analysis”. TFT_LCD display industry is a capital/technology intensive industry. It is hard to keep advantage or set entry barriers in this fierce competition and speedy knowledge transfer environment. Only by constructing innovation cycle, TFT_LCD manufactures can keep a “temporary” competitive advantage. By adopting environmental changes, transfer business model, and innovate new technology become the only way to keep growth momentum for the future. This thesis also explains TFT_LCD “exportation mode”: by SWOT analysis of different standpoint and represent supply chain’s value creation flow; to find out a better business model---relative effectiveness and profitable operation model for TFT_LCD display industry.

Since the Q2 of 2009, the requirement of panels of screen have been showed a bulge, so does the price by the global economic is as a boom and the requirement of interior of China. Many manufacturers of the screen of panel have gotten rid of deficit gradually. As the basics of raw glass panels are the major component of TFT/ LCD, the raw glass panels-melted manufacturers should keep the output to maintain the maximum of economic interest. Unfortunately, they had a faith in conservatism of extending. Being an important role of major component, the supply chain of basics of raw glass panels will be a hot issue of this study. In order to evaluate how the TFT/ LCD panel manufacturers choose the Glass Vender---there are two sections in this study: One is that interviewing the experts and the other is that questionnaires were designed by bibliographies and the characteristic of TFT/ LCD glass industry. Establish the frame of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) by the suggestions of experts. Then use the AHP to analyze the influence of each factor. As the result comes out, we can understand that which “strategy and plan“ should be involved on the issue of choosing the vender. Follow the findings of this study, the glass vender could be chosen (or not) by TFT/ LCD glass industry depends on the major factors of technique and prime cost (these two factors seize the majority of all---at the high rate 64.21%) Also, the panel manufacturers could use a professional and objective way to make the decision from cooperating with the glass vender. For those venders not being the cooperation relationship with TFT/ LCD glass industry can regard this study as a reference to emphasis the influence of the factor, and draft the prior goals then get ready to be a glass vender of supply chain for TFT/ LCD glass industry.

Currently, the production of TFT-LCD panels in Taiwan is in the second place worldwide. Korea, China and Taiwan all scramble for expanding the output nowadays. On one hand, all panel makers hope to enlarge the market share by increasing sales. On the other hand, they continue to figure out ways to reduce the production cost. Both are complementary with each other. In the past, the high price, life-span, production quality and various factors of TFT-LCD panels were unable to spark waves of purchases. With the increase of panel’s production generation, the upgrade of technique, the decrease of the cost of related manufacture materials and the operation cost, CRT screens are no longer used in desktops and monitors and displays are replaced by TFT-LCD. We believe that all displays of televisions will transform to be TFT-LCD and the key factor is the selling price.The key material of producing TFT-LCD is the glass substrate which is controlled by American and Japanese glass makers so that the price is unable to fall. Glass substrate production ever failed in Taiwan before. China has developed its own glass substrate for the use of TFT-LCD and will be introduced to Taiwan soon. If the glass substrate is adopted by panel makers, the purchasing cost of glass substrate will be down, the profit will be increased, and the price of the applied products will be decreased, which are beneficial to consumers. This paper will introduce the TFT-LCD glass substrate industry, analysis of TFT-LCD glass substrate quality requirements, glass production technical comparison, Glass substrates in China's development of SWOT analysis, using interviews to explore this research topic, and obtain information about customers and suppliers, and ultimately hope to achieve co-operation. Also by the development of success factors in China, Taiwan in the future to be developed to provide touch-glass manufacturers as a reference.

In recent years, TFT-LCD (Thin-Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) is growing quickly in every consumer product. The panel manufacturer has significant investment in foundries to provide more capacity and glass utilization ratio. With regard to the method of defect detection in Array process (Shorting Bar Design), the greater plant of glass substrate took more time for defect inspection. Main purposes of defect inspection are the defect classification, necessity to repair panel and to scrap and the process afterwards (Cell Process). However, the cell process cost is more than array process cost. Therefore, it is important for the industry to focus on how to inspect defect immediately in array process, improve detection ratio, reduce inspection time, orient defect accurately, and to avoid cost wasting from defective panel pass to latter process. The purpose of this research is the improvement of defect detection during TFT-LCD array process. By utilizing the principles of VIOS (VIOS : Voltage Image Optical System), which can judge the defect inside or outside circuit area of panel, we can decrease the problem of error judgment or long inspection time. It is good for checking whether the panel is a good or not and to improve panel defect detection ratio and further locate the defect precisely. As a result, the detection time as well as reparations can be accelerated and the capacity can be remarkably elevated.

To improve the image quality of the display, high-resolution and high-color-depth source driver ICs are required. Achieving a higher resolution, more output channels of the source driver are needed. Extending color depth for the source driver requires high digital-to-analog converter’s (DAC’s) bit number, leading to an increase of DAC’s area. Since each output channel of the source driver needs one DAC, a source driver generally includes hundreds of DACs which occupy most silicon die size. Hence, there is a great demand for high-resolution, high-color-depth but low-cost source driver ICs. This study proposes three area-efficient DACs for LCD source driver ICs in different applications. For the small-size LCD panel, a quasi-pipeline DAC is proposed to implement a 9-bit source driver IC with high conversion rate. To minimize the charge injection error, we also utilize bootstrapped switches in the proposed DAC. Using 0.35-μm CMOS technology, a 30-channel source driver with quasi-pipeline DACs is implemented to validate the proposed DAC’s performance. The maximum DNL and INL are measured as 0.25 LSB and 0.33 LSB, respectively. The averaged data conversion time is 16 ns per channel. The Figure of Merit (FoM) of the proposed DAC is 0.2 pJ/bit-mm2, which is smaller (by a factor of 3-39) than that of prior arts. The measured results indicate that the proposed 9-bit quasi-pipeline DAC is highly suitable for small-format 16-million-color LCD source driver ICs. For the medium-size LCD application, we propose a 10-bit DAC with interpolation technique for compact LCD column driver ICs. The proposed DAC combines a 6-bit RDAC and a 4-bit DAC-embedded op with 1.6-bit current-mode interpolation cells. The 6-bit RDAC uses a one-voltage selector instead of a two-voltage selector; therefore, it requires a smaller silicon die area for the voltage selector than conventional ones. Fewer differential pairs are required for the voltage interpolation because the DAC-embedded op uses 1.6-bit interpolation cells with binary-weighted reference voltages. This reduces the silicon die area further. The 10-bit DAC prototype is realized in 0.35-μm CMOS technology with the worst DNL/INL of 0.45/0.93 LSB. The 10-bit DAC occupies only 64 % of the conventional 8-bit RDAC area. For the large-size LCD application, a 10-bit switched-capacitor voltage-summing DAC is introduced. This 10-bit DAC consists of a 3-bit RDAC and an 8-voltage switched-capacitor summer with high driving capability. The switched-capacitor summer adds up the output voltage of the 3-bit RDAC and the products of the input digital bit value and the corresponding binary-weighted voltage from bits 3 to 9. The 10-bit DAC prototype is realized using 0.35-μm/0.5-μm CMOS technology, with the worst-case DNL/INL at 0.76/1.56 LSB. The die area per channel is 35 μm × 410 μm, which is more compact than state-of-the-art circuits implemented with the same technology. The settling time to reach 0.2% tolerance of the final voltage is only 5 μs, smaller than that of previous switched-capacitor (cyclic) DACs.

Under management improving, most company not only use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system which they have, but also combine Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) system to provide them useful material requirement planning and production planning. Because TFT-LCD manufacturing method is heterogeneity, and Y-type production process needs to consider CF production, it’s harder than I-type production process. Common APS system creates Manufacturing Order after pegging in order to fulfil demand. Its main difficulty is how to decide feasible order release time under production capacity limits. This paper focused on TFT-LCD Manufacturing Order planning area, considered most production constraints, to provide feasible mathematical model of「TFT-LCD Manufacturing Order planning」and to provide synchronization method for Array and CF production. By the way, this paper provides an algorithm for Array and Cell Manufacturing Order planning, then we use many optimization tools like LINGO、OptQuest JAVA, etc., to solve TFT-LCD Manufacturing Order planning and to evaluate those efficiency. The experiment result shows that our mathematical model exactly can solve Array and Cell Manufacturing Order planning problem, and can satisfied balance planning. The synchronization method is good based on Cell output than CF. On the other hand, our experiment shows Forward-Backward algorithm can get good result.

The current practice of creating the geometric model of TFT-LCD module is based on the scheme of bottom-up design, which creates parts’ model individually and assembles them together into a product model. Such an assembly model possesses no mutual relationship among adjacent parts, thus involving tedious and time-consuming drafting efforts for the occurrence of design change. In order to reduce the time spent in the entire product development cycle, this thesis aims to use Pro/ENGINEER to develop a rapid-response structure design system for LCD module. Research issues addressed in this thesis include: (1) use the scheme of top-down design to create the geometric model for TFT-LCD module, so that part models are interlocked with each other to achieve the goal of rapid response of geometric model to design parameter change, (2) interference check for the geometric model after design change, (3) automatic generation of a check list for verifying the feasibility of the geometric model, (4) automatic calculation of the total weight of the entire TFT-LCD module, and (5) presentation of cross-sections in a dynamic manner for the ease of checking various 2D sections along the entire module. As for system implementation, Pro/Toolkit and MFC of Visual C++ are used in this research to develop the proposed system. A product engineer can benefit from the developed system by full concentration on expressing his/her expertise in TFT-LCD module design, without worrying about the detailed drawing of each single part and the entire assembly. In this thesis, a full illustration of the user interface for design parameter change, the corresponding geometry change, and design evaluation criteria, including the check list, weight calculation and 2D cross-sections, is presented to show the feature of rapid-response of the proposed parametric structure design system for TFT-LCD module.

In the cost structure of TFT-LCD industry, 65% is raw materials, 5% is labor, 30% is operational cost. Since the operational cost and equipment depreciation take a high percentage of the total cost, TFT-LCD industry is usually at full production capacity, and uses economies of scale to reduce the average unit cost. In other words, the number of substrates produced every month is fixed, but when the market demand is less than the expected, the stock of panel increases, in turn, manufacturers use price war to reduce the stock. It is the reason for high fluctuation of panel prices. Therefore, a good product mix can help the manufacturers reducing the risk of stocks, increase profit, and improve competitive advantages. This study uses linear programming on the solution of TFT-LCD industry product mix, and constructs a suitable product mix for TFT-LCD industry given the conditions of the profit, productivity, raw materials supply, and market demand. Through case discussion, the related information of the case company is applied on the model, and the productivity capacity load and below capacity load are discussed. Then, linear programming software LINGO is employed for solution on product mix. Lastly, this model is proven to generate product mix for TFT-LCD industry effectively, and the profit is higher than the prior product mix. The product mix generated by this model can provide reference for the sales department on orders and shipping, for production department on the order quantity for each size for MPS.

Abstract TFT-LCD is an important industry which is high cost in fabrication, there are some defects resulted from the fabrication process and environment. The bad pixel can be repaired as dark or lightly bright point, but it is always a defect. This dissertation studies how to repair the defects of the pixel which permits the repaired pixels working normally. Based on the TFT-LCD fabrication process, driving principle, laser repair and pixel design, we adopt the adjacent pixel to drive the bad one. The repaired pixel will be normally operated. In this study, we discuss how to repair the bad pixels of TFT-LCD, including laser cutting、welding and laser CVD. We use the D.O.E(Design Of Experiment) method to obtain the factors of process parameters in laser CVD, which let us to know which is the important factor in the process parameters. The repair of opened lines includes via hole formation and laser CVD. We design a L18(21*37) orthogonal arrays, and 3-level factors used in the experiment. The complete experiments are laser holing、hole deposition and line deposition for the repair of opened line. After searching the patents, we design a new pixel for laser repair to increase the successful ratio of laser repair. One of the repairs ways is to use the flowing metal between data line and ITO. When the pixel has been damaged, we will cut the TFT of pixel and connect the data line with ITO by laser welding; the damaged pixel will be lightly bright point. The other way is to use the diode to replace the flowing metal, the diode is used as a filter for ac data signals and the damaged pixel will work normally in checking image on matter what is black or white screens.

As LCD factory advances to the 8.5 generation, the improvement on the manufacture facilities has draw significant attention for enhancing the competition advantage. However, the drying process, which is needed several times during the manufacturing procedure, is becoming more difficult due to the increasing LCD size. Therefore, designing annealing oven (ANOV) for drying LCD substrate is an essential and challenging task for TFT-LCD industry and become the goal of this study. At first, the flow visualization is performed numerically via CFD code Fluent to identify the detailed flow patterns inside the original ANOV. It follows that a severe non-uniform velocity distribution along the different rows of LCD plates and several serious reversed flows are found inside the utility air plenum and the LCD drying region. Afterwards, several modifications are imposed to assure the uniform velocity distribution at the exit of utility air chamber and the inlet side of LCD substrates. These improvements includes the removal of ventilation opening, the elimination of improper barriers at fan exit, the location adjustment of fan, adjusting the straightener’s porous ratio, additions of the flow straighteners, the blockage plates, and the corner guiding plates. Trough a systematic and comprehensive CFD analysis, it is demonstrated that a slight airstream increase 3.9%, the uniform velocity distribution, and the substantial reductions on the reversed and circulated flow patterns are achieved successfully. Also, the corresponding influences on the parameters are discussed and summarized for the designer’s reference.

In this thesis, two types of source drivers for TFT-LCD applications are proposed. The first one is designed for the UXGA specification which is used in a large TFT-LCD panel, and the second one is suitable for the portable small-scale TFT-LCD. For the first source driver, two channels share one DAC decoder, so that the number of DAC decoder can be reduced by half to save the chip area and costs. For the second source driver, a few buffers are added in front of the R-string, which stabilize the voltage of the R-string faster in order to drive the panel quickly. This structure can drive hundreds of channels, and relatively the power dissipation and chip area can be reduced.

This work presents three pixel circuits of transflective TFT-LCD. The concept of super patterned vertical alignment (S-PVA) and the structure of single cell gap are adopted in circuit design. With simple fabrication processes, the principle of pixel circuits is to match the operating voltages of liquid crystal in transmissive(T) and reflective(R) regions, respectively. Three proposed pixel circuits in this work can provide wide viewing angle and high image quality for panel. The first pixel circuit, composed of two TFTs, simplifies circuit elements and increases aperture ratio of pixel. The simulation result of this circuit has an error of 29 gray levels in the low gray level and an error of 25 gray levels in the middle gray level. The second pixel circuit, composed of three TFTs and additional two capacitors is used to improve the first pixel circuit. The simulation result has an error of 23 gray levels in the low gray level and an error of 24 gray levels in the middle gray level. Despite the error is large in the high gray level, the pixel in the high gray level is brighter, so human eyes can not identify the difference. The third pixel circuit has three TFTs, special wave driving method is used to control the voltage ratio between T and R regions, the simulation result is well matched to the characteristic curve, which means the error is minimized. The proposed circuits improve image quality and enhance luminating efficiency. These circuits will contribute to wide viewing angle applications in the future.

In the manufacturing of TFT-LCD, the array process is for producing TFT-plates, the CF (color filter) process is for CF-plates, and the cell process is for assembling a TFT plate with a CF plate to form a single one—called TFT-LCD plate. A TFT/CF plate is composed of several panels and so is an assembled TFT-LCD plate. A TFT-LCD panel is good only when its two composing panels are good. In the ramp-up stage of manufacturing TFT-LCD, the yields of array/CF processes may be so low that many panels on a plate are defect ones. Two questions might be raised: Should we hold the manufacturing of a low-yield plate and send it to rework? If so, how to determine the threshold values for rework? This research mathematically formulates the rework decision problem and develops a genetic algorithm to solve the problem. Experiment results indicate that the proposed method significantly outperforms the heuristic method used in industry.

Under consideration of reducing operating cost, some TFT-LCD panel manufacturers use join first break later method in their cell process. The problem with this approach is the unavoidable yield loss due to the joining of defective panels to the good ones which will further cut down the yield. To reduce such loss, some researchers had transformed the original problem into assignment problem and found out the optimal solution. Due to the inefficiency of matching procedure during the transformation, the research proposed several improved yield mapping heuristics that using ”divide and conquer” concept to solve the problem more efficiently. These heuristics first divide the substrates into several subgroups and then transform the defects on each subgroup of TFT and CF substrates into an O-X matrix to form a series of smaller assignment problems and then solve them in less time. The research first explored the possibility of adjusting arrangement of substrate sequence to improve the process yield. Next, in order to compare the difference, eight grouping strategies were developed. For each subgroup, three rules (assignment method, random method, and descending yield rate) were used to match the substrates. The evaluation of effectiveness of the heuristics was based on two different performance indices: yield rate and matching efficiency. The results indicate that grouping the substrates by summing up the weights of the defect locations in each substrate is a more consistent and better performing strategy.

The make-to-order production model is widely adopted by the TFT-LCD manufacturers. Although the preliminarily estimated number of orders can be obtained one month earlier than the delivery date, TFT-LCD manufacturers require the precise number of orders, which in most cases could not be reached until 7 days prior to delivery, to arrange production and transportation activities to meet the demand of the customers. The main drawback of this current practice for TFT-LCD manufactures is that insufficiencies of lead time to plan production and transportation have caused inefficiency in logistics performance, i.e. inadequate inventory or higher transportation costs. This study attempts to solve the aforementioned problems by employing an integer mathematical programming model to better schedule production and transportation activities on the basis of the estimated number of orders, coupled with a rolling-over approach to tackle the problem that in reality customers submit their finally determined orders in a short lead time. Utilizing the investigated information from one large TFT-LCD manufacturer in Taiwan as the input data for parameters and TFT-LCD demand patterns of the model, and employing LINGO 8.0 as the solving software for the model, a number of empirical studies based on four scenarios have been performed. The results showed that the total costs (including production and transportation) were minimized by delivering 70-90% of TFT-LCDs by sea and the rest by air, rather than entirely by sea. In respect of TFT-LCDs transported by sea during low ordering season, the products were firstly offered to the destinations where the frequency of voyages was lower, secondly assigned to those where the difference of costs between air transportation and sea transportation (thereafter transportation cost difference) was greater, and finally provided to the locations where more frequent voyages and flights were available and where transportation cost difference was lesser. However, during peak season, the first priority was to provide products to those locations where transportation cost difference was greater, and the next to deliver products to destinations where voyages were fewer. The same results could be obtained in situations where the final order number was relatively greater than that of the preliminary estimation, with a need for TFT-LCD manufactures to reserve a higher level of inventory and to transport more products by sea to destinations where transportation cost difference was greater.

The environmental pollution impact data from domestic and foreign high-tech industry usually lack open and objective comparison. The enterprise might reduce decision-making error for business and environment if they can establish their environmental management benchmark by learning mutually. The energy and materials input into and pollutants output from a fifth generation TFT-LCD Fab (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display Fabrication) was investigated. The data was then normalized with glass substrate area to facilitate establishing the indices of sustainability and green management benchmark. The waste glass with and without liquid crystal generated from this Fab was 0.200kg/m2 and 0.364kg/m2 respectivily. The energy was mostly consumed by the CUB (Central Utility Building) that account for 33.7% of all electricity used by the Fab. The developer used in developing process was 3.731kg/m2 which had the greatest value in the category of chemicals. The input value of plastic film for wrapping was 2.319g/m2 which was the largest quantity in the category of others. In the category of others, the wastes are all the general industrial waste except the mercury lamp which is hazardous waste and has large environmental impacts.

To face the customer requirement is many models and less quantity will be bound to increase the item of manufacturing product and to make planning be more complex of the material inventory at each manufacturing plant, the lead time of purchasing material, product mix, the purchasing cost, the holding cost, and the transporting cost. How to use the resources of each manufacturing plant appropriate for the satisfying production planning, that is to say the production flow that is the existence of substitute situation. The research interests in the material planning of the multi-site to find a good coordination mechanism that is the number of purchasing material and the number of transporting material between different manufacturing factories in per period. The research main presents development of a material planning for liquid crystal module manufacturing in multi-site environment and plans the material issue of the multi-site that uses the stock to satisfy the demand. Consider enterprise's whole framework operation cost and quantity of supplies stock of different factory, under handing in one and purchasing limiting with supplies to delivery date promise to customers, make the profit total that should plan to accept the order in the block largest, and improve interval resources of factory and share the degree. Because enterprises could meet various production environments, it indicates that through the number of orders, the scale of enterprises and the different allocation tactic to test the material planning approaches. The results prove that the number of orders is very influential factor and enterprises adopt the universe allotting will bring more profit.

International TFT-LCD industry, undergoing eight hard years, has been creating fat benefits which can be compared with those of the semi-conductor industry-- also a promising industry with the profits of up to trillions-- since 1998. The number of International TFT-LCD (the essential materials of NOTEBOOKS) doubles because of the increasing demands. International TFT-LCD industry, therefore, groups in several of locations in Taiwan such as Tainan science community, Hsinchu science community, Taoyuan science community, competing those of South Korea, even better in productive amount in 2005。 However, Taiwan’s LCD-industry-- facing with the China’s economic thriving in recent years, the competitors of South Korea and Japan, the investment from Taiwan-- raises highly caring and discussion technologically, officially and scholarly. China’s LCD-industry has been productive since 2005Q3。 This research, we analyzed,on the base of under the Poter’s Five forces theory,SWOT theory and discourse of Product life cycle theory,the competition edge of TFT-LCD industry, mainly tries to analyze the TFT-LCD industry development in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, and the connection, competition and compensation among them. There are three conclusions as following: Official comparison between Taiwan and China in TFT-LCD industry: Considering the factors of demand, the production, support the related industry, industrial integrated management and official support, Taiwan is weak in labor market and demand market aspect without worrying about the official support. The whole situation still favors Taiwan. With the analysis of the investment-in-China factors of TFT-LCD industry, LCM start to invest in China because of the factors of labor and marketing while they-- considering close condition of China market, the edge of the leader and globalization strategy-- still keep the original productive technology in Taiwan. Taiwan competes with China by minimum edge in the analysis of the competition or the compensation. In the long term, however, China could replace Taiwan as long as she can rule out the factors which hinder her from advancing and lead in TFT-LCD industry.

TFT-LCD manufacturer produces many different kinds of products. The resources each product needs and the production efficiency are all different. For the factory, the most important thing is the “Production Efficiency”, the less cost with higher value. Therefore, the inefficient products will increase the cost and affect the manufacturer performance. A manufacturer should know the product performance and identify the products with poor product efficiency. It can be the basis for a factory to examine, analyze and improve the products. Meanwhile, it can also help a factory to decide if they should suspend poor efficient products, replace them with new products or adjust the product combination. The main purpose is to increase the product performance and competitiveness. This study use the “Data Envelopment Analysis”(DEA) which can handle multiple inputs and outputs, a performance evaluation methods, to do the production efficient analysis and the ranking of TFT-LCD factory’s products. To achieve efficient evaluation of the fairness and objectivity, in the index weight set using a Common Weight limits concept and the limits to join the Data Envelopment Analysis CCR model. In efficient ranking point of view, it abandons the Common Weight, a single efficient ranking method, but using “Decision Making Unit”(DMU), the cross efficiency ranking purpose, to be the ranking based method of most efficient self-evaluation. By Common Weighting and Cross Efficiency Advantages concepts, it calculated the efficient value of each DMU and sorted them by rank scoring design. That will help to identify the inefficient products produced by the TFT-LCD manufacturer. This study finally uses actual historical data of TFT-LCD manufacturer in Taiwan( referred to as A Company). It verified this study really can effectively help the TFT-LCD production plant to make the right production decision.

In the long production process of TFT-LCD, the production time of the TFT array process is generally around four to six days, depending on the design layouts and devices for various manufacturers. Moreover, the product line for the TFT array is operated round the clock, i.e. nearly its full capacity. With such a large production capacity, huge loss will be incurred if the product quality fluctuates. Therefore, the major task of the engineer in the TFT array process is to take much effort to reduce the abnormity of the product quality in the complex production process. The most commonly technique utilizing for removing the electrostatic discharge is the ionizer for removing the electrostatic discharge on the substrate. This study proposes a novel process different from traditional TFT array processes to avoid the local accumulated electrostatic discharge for reducing the damage of electrostatic discharge on the TFT device or the lead in the conductive thin film during the processing.

TFT-LCD industry is both capital-intensive and technique-intensive. This industry has an output value of more than NTD 1 trillion in Taiwan in 2006. The manufacturing of TFT-LCD consists of four major processes: array, color filter, cell, and model. Facility planning is a strategic long-term decision that is crucial to the performance of color filter fabs. This research studies the feasibility and performance of four types of facility layout of color filter fabs. AutoMod simulation models using data from real fabs were developed and design of experiment was used to evaluate the effect of layout type (i.e., flow line vs. job shop), white-light common area, tact time, and product mix on performance measures of cycle time, transportation distance, and monthly production volume. Simulation results show that flow line without white-light common area leads to the best performance.

Among the top 10 companies of annual “Top 50 Best Performed Companies” researched and published by Common Wealth Magazine, more than half are very related to Consumer Electronics Manufacturing. Mr. Terry Kuo, CEO of Foxconn Corporation, one of the largest electronic OEM companies in the world, once said “The industry of Consumer Electronics Manufacturing particularly fits into the electronic-production environment of Taiwan. The characteristic of this market is to produce high-volume products with low cost/price and the learning curve from modeling to high-volume production can be very short. Only the electronic companies in Taiwan can handle and catch up the production speed like this.”. We can, therefore, tell the importance of Consumer Electronics Manufacturing industry for Taiwan. In this fast-changing technology era, the enterprise should not only carefully adjust the organizational structure and inspect the business model; they should also make adjust to their business strategy and even the core industrial focus in order to adopt themselves in this state-of-art global environment. In addition, the life cycle of each product is also shortened with the changing desires of the new customers. Companies need to continuously produce and promote new products that fit the current market so they can expand their market share and thus, increase their ability to gain profit for the enterprise. My research is performed with case studies and the researching target is A Corporation. Although A Corporation still has solid revenue growth during recent years, they are facing enormous pressure from its fast-changing industry, mergers of international competitors as well as the less and less gross profit of its products. The main goal of my research is to find out how A Corporation can figure out its niche market and continue their successful development through the past thirty years. My research is based on the collection and study of related literature and second data as well as by applying the industry and environmental analysis to search for the industrial competitive advantage of A Corporation. I will further study and discuss the critical winning factor and business strategy for the Small and Medium Size TFT-LCD industry so it will provide valuable references for A Corporation, its industry and the future academic studies. Based on my research, the main reasons that A Corporate can remain its solid growth through the past thirty years are: (1) A Corporation uses prospective vision to catch and leverage the opportunities from the changing environment and its industry. (2) A Corporation clearly defines the industrial position they want to be in the future and develops their production lines based upon their niche market (3) A Corporation focuses on their core business and maintain a healthy financial operations. (4) A Corporation creates positive relationship with their employees and demonstrates their strong performance from the power of great teamwork.

Mura defects in LCM panel of TFT-LCD have the properties of local low contrast and luminance variation without a clear contour on a uniformly produced surface. This thesis proposes two methods which are discrete cosine transform (DCT) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT). These methods successfully detect simulated blob-mura and real mura defects. The DWT method is based on symmetrical 9/7 tap Daubechies coefficients that is superior for filtering the regular structure of color filter and small area defects. DCT method is better for detecting luminance variation in large area defects and poor for small ones.

Thresholding technique which has been widely used in the detection of defects is to automatically select an optimal threshold for separating objects from the background based on their gray-level distribution. However, this method is not suitable for TFT-LCD defects detection in this research. The basic idea of ICA is first to detect the defective regions in order to avoid unnecessary background effect before thresholding. In this research, training of samples is performed by partitioning a defect-free image into non-overlapping subimages to obtain independent components (ICs) which can be described the local features of background. Detection of defects is performed by comparing the difference of ICs between background and test subimages. In this research, we tested the performance of ICA in defects detection and achieved off-line learning and on-line detection.

According to a research by Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, the number of patents assigned to Taiwan was ranked in the second place of the nations in the world. Although Taiwan enjoys a good lead in the number of patents, research and development’s ability isn’t in proportion to it. In addition to the achievement in terms of patent quantity, Taiwan has to enhance its patent quality in order to gain the advantages in the knowledge economy. This study chooses the key films of TFT-LCD industry in Taiwan, Japan and Korea. Employing the patent analysis tool, Patent Guider 1.0, retrieves their individual patent data from United States Patent and Trademark Office. The purpose of this study includes exploration of the evolution of technology innovation, linkage between R&D performance and non-patent references (NPRs), and interaction between overall performance and NPRs in TFT-LCD industry. This study employs several indicators including the number of patent, number of NPR cited, science linkage, science cycle time. This study also explores the degree of interaction between international patent classes and science subjects, which demonstrate the strongest linkage in TFT-LCD industry. It is found that the development of NPRs preludes that of patents. Overall, Japanese firms have higher science linkage than its Korean and Taiwanese counterparts. Empirical results also demonstrate that Japanese and Korean firms have higher speed of technical innovation than their Taiwanese counterpart. With respect to science linkage, 4-digit class G02F01 is found higher propensity of science linkage in TFT-LCD industry and that sheds light to our managerial implications.
