Full text
Abstract:
Adapting Deleuze’s conceptualization of the virtual, this study shows that Against the Day intends to undermine our narrow conception of reality by surpassing the actualities of the known world. In the darkness of the novel, “the virtual” lurks; the novel is a travel against the day, against the actual world to an actual-virtual world, toward “the nights” which “will be dark enough for whatever visions must transpire across them, no longer to be broken into by light” (Pynchon, 2006, 1083). Indeed, the presence of mysterious, paranormal, and magical events (such as the uncanny tales of ghosts, séances, visions, hallucinations, and other-dimensional interventions) along with actual events functions as a defiant modus operandi against the actual-oriented, secular Western Philosophy. That is, through virtual occurrences, lines of flight are created (from the real/actual) offering alternative systems of looking at the world.

Abstract:
An important question raised in the Molinist debate is, ‘Given God's access to counterfactual knowledge, could God create a world in which free creatures always refrain from evil?’ An affirmative answer suggests that God cannot possess counterfactual knowledge since such knowledge would allow God to create seemingly more desirable worlds than the actual world. However, Alvin Plantinga has argued that it is at least possible that every possible person is transworld depraved – meaning that each person would perform some wrong actions if any world in which that person is morally free were actualized. I argue that, given an infinite number of possible persons, the probability that everyone is transworld depraved is exceedingly low. In addition, I investigate whether there are enough possible persons vis-à-vis the number of moral choices per person so that God could create worlds like the actual world, except lacking in moral evil.

Abstract:
The development of virtual reality brings an old and historic question on the difference between the real world and unreal world. In this paper, starting from the concept of representation, I argued that what we call “virtual reality” is a representation of an actual or non-actual world and the criterion of difference between the “real world” and “virtual reality” is whether we present it with the intention of using it as a representation. After that, the thesis is demonstrated again from different theories of scientific representation. Therefore, the intuitive distinction between the “real world” and “virtual reality” can be drawn on the epistemological criterion; that is to say, the virtual world is a representation while the real world is not.

Abstract:
The purpose of first aid remains the same through the ages: to prevent pain, disease and death. But the need is different in different places and at different times. It should not be forgotten that in large parts of the world the most immediate threat to human life is starvation and malnutrition, together with lack of hygiene and basic medical care. The kind of first aid most needed under such circumstances is food and medicine. The key to a long-term solution is education in self-help. The prosperity and experience of the Western world must, in the future, be used more systematically to booster development towards self-sufficiency in the less developed countries. These are most important aspects that should be dealt with more often. The time frame of this article forces me to concentrate on conditions in the industrial world.

NGSS guidance indicates that a life science curriculum’s unit on evolution must include the concepts of geologic ages, endangered species, Anthropocene extinction, and biodiversity. Enrichment lessons and labs deepen student understanding of key standards. This lesson enriches students by presenting a real-world opportunity for species conservation. First, instructors ensure a common understanding of background knowledge among students. Second, levels of species endangerment are introduced and students participate in a “willingness to pay” lab involving a philatelic-based fund to protect endangered species. Third, predicted student donation amounts are compared to actual costs needed to conserve and manage species in the wild. Finally, summative reports communicate actual conservation needs by comparing and contrasting two endangered species.

AbstractWhile morality prohibits us from creating miserable children, it does not require us to create happy children. I offer an actualist explanation of this apparent asymmetry. Assume that for every possible world W, there is a distinct set of permissibility facts determined by the welfare of those who exist in W. Moral actualism says that actual-world permissibility facts should determine one's choice between worlds. But if one doesn't know which world is actual, one must aim for subjective rightness and maximize expected actual-world permissibility. So, because one should expect actual people to be worse off than they could have been if one creates a miserable child, creating a miserable child is subjectively impermissible. And because one should expect actual people to be at least as well off as they could have been if one fails to create a happy child, failing to create a happy child is subjectively permissible.

AbstractTheists such as Swinburne who seek to use natural theological arguments to move from observations about the world to conclusions about the existence (or probable existence) of God seem to need premises concerning what the world would have been like were Theism to have been false, viz. premises to the effect that it would have been (or would probably have been) different from the way we observe the actual world to be. Surely only that way could observations of the actual world be taken to be evidence that Theism is true.1 And surely for such arguments to be dialectically powerful in discussions with Atheists, these premises need to be acceptable to Theists and Atheists alike.2 In this article, I call these claims into question.

Abstract:
There are brains in vats (BIVs) in the actual world. These “cerebral organoids” are roughly comparable to the brains of three-month-old foetuses, and conscious cerebral organoids seem only a matter of time. Philosophical interest in conscious cerebral organoids has thus far been limited to bioethics, and the purpose of this paper is to discuss cerebral organoids in an epistemological context. In doing so, I will argue that it is now clear that there are close possible worlds in which we are BIVs. Not only does this solidify our intuitive judgement that we cannot know that we are not BIVs, but it poses a fundamental problem for both the neo-Moorean (i.e. safety-based) antisceptical strategy, which purports to allow us to know that we aren’t BIVs, and the safety condition on knowledge itself. Accordingly, this case is especially instructive in illustrating just how epistemologically relevant empirical developments can be.

Abstract:
‘Adams worlds’ are possible worlds that contain no creature whose life is not worth living or whose life is overall worse than in any other possible world in which it would have existed. Creating an Adams world involves no wrongdoing or unkindness towards creatures on the part of the creator. I argue that the notion of an Adams world is of little value in theodicy. Theists are not only committed to thinking that this world was created without wrongdoing or unkindness but also must rule out the possibility that the world might have been better had God not existed. Nor is there much reason, independent of the availability of a satisfactory theodicy, for believing that the actual world is an Adams world. The need for a theodicy constructed along Leibnizian lines, incorporating the claim that this world is the best possible, is thus reinforced.

Abstract:
Measles is still an major public health problem in many countries. According to the World Health Organization, up to 3 million measles cases were recorded annually. Measles was one of the main causes of death among young children in the pre-vaccine period. More than 10 million children died of measles every year throughout the world. In 2014, on a global scale, there were 114 900 deaths from measles almost 314 deaths per day or 13 deaths per hour. The main cause of death from measles are complications from the respiratory tract (pneumonia), the central nervous system (meningitis, encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, encephalomyelitis), gastrointestinal tract (diarrhea). Between 2000 and 2014, mass measles vaccination reduced global measles mortality rate by 79%, and about 17.1 million children's lives were saved. However, measles still remains endemic and, one of the leading causes of childhood mortality in developing countries as a result of lack of immunization policies. Up to 98% of measles mortality are registered in developing countries, such India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, RDC, etc. If in the pre-vaccine period, measles affected predominantly children aged less than five years, the global immunization era led to a change in the measles-age-category pattern. The increase measles occurency in adults is due to the loss of protective antibodies, that last generally for 10 to 15 years after vaccination in only 36% of the vaccinees. Complications due to measles in adolescents and adults are most likely than in children. However, immunocompetent individuals may have repeated measles infections. The possibility of transplacental transmission of the disease: measles in pregnant women leads to a higher risk of premature birth, spontaneous abortion, congenital malformations, and with a woman at the end of pregnancy intrauterine infection and the birth of a child with signs of measles. In the absence of specific anti-measles antibodies in the mother, the child may become ill in theantenatal period. Differential diagnosis of measles is carried out with infections that occur with exanthema syndrome (parvovirus B19, sudden exanthema, etc.). Etiotropic therapy is carried out with preparations of recombinant interferon (viferon, etc.). Doses of drugs and the duration of treatment are determined by the severity of the disease. Pathogenetic and symptomatic therapy is strongly recommended.

Abstract:
The significance of the issues of allergic diseases is not in doubt. It is difficult to find a person who has not suffered at least some Allergy symptom, not everyone develops diseases, but most people face Allergy symptoms. The prevalence of various allergic diseases is increasing every year, currently reaching 30% of the population, and the world health organization predicts it will reach 50% in the next few decades. The most common nosologies are allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, but there are many other conditions of hypersensitivity. This article addresses the issues of inflammatory reactions in General and specifically allergic inflammation, discusses the main aspects of the pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis and urticaria, and questions of drug therapy for these diseases. Most people are sure that they can take anti-allergic medications for allergies, and most often they are referring to antihistamines. Unfortunately, even some medical specialists lack an understanding of the specifics of antihistamine therapy. some people still believe that there are three or four generations of antihistamines, and patients use drugs not as prescribed by doctors, but on the recommendation of friends or pharmacists. Irrational use of antihistamines leads to a decrease in effectiveness, and it is not uncommon to discredit specific drugs and groups of drugs in General. This article demonstrates the results of various European and Asian studies on the effectiveness and safety of antihistamines and bilastin in particular, as well as their own experience of using antihistamines in practice.

In a series of much discussed articles and books, William Lane Craig defends the view that the past could not consist in a beginningless series of events. In the present paper, I cast a critical eye on just one part of Craig's case for the finitude of the past – viz. his philosophical argument against the possibility of actually infinite sets of objects in the ‘real world’. I shall try to show that this argument is unsuccessful. I shall also take a close look at several considerations that are often thought to favour the possibility of an actual infinite, arguing in each case that Craig's response is inadequate.

Abstract:
Security is one of the most common terms in the modern world. This statement is supported by the fact that the term security is used in a wide range of areas. The subject of this paper is national security and the challenges, risks and threats to that security in contemporary international relations. The purpose of the work is twofold. First, to show the diversity of theoretical understanding of the term challenge, risk and threat by various authors. On the other hand, the overriding goal is to analyze the relationship to the challenges, risks and threats in different countries. When it comes to national security, challenges, risks and threats, most often, are identified in a document called the national security strategy. This document, as one of the highest in the hierarchy of political acts of every state, when it comes to security, is passed by almost all modern states of the world. The analysis of numerous national security strategies has revealed that it is possible to identify: 1) the challenges, risks and threats that appear in all strategies, 2) the challenges, risks and threats of security that appear in most strategies, and 3) the challenges, risks and threats of security which are country specific.

Abstract:
The urgency of researching the problems of the Russian economy is beyond doubt. It is determined by the scale and complexity of the tasks set by President V. Putin in 7the May 2018 decree. The purpose of the study is to study the current problems of the Russian economy and, on this basis, offer recommendations for their elimination in order to achieve the indicators indicated by the head of state and above all enter the TOP-5 largest economies of the world. The main objectives of the study were: 1. To identify the main problems of the Russian economy. 2. To analyze the current shortcomings policy. 3. To show the conditions under which the economy can develop at a pace. When studying the main issues of the topic, the authors use the following methods: dialectic, system-functional, economic-statistical, and formal-logical methods; the method of comparative analysis was used by the authors for comparison with the economies of other countries, for example, with the economy of China. In this article, the authors attempted to analyze the main current problems of the Russian economy in order to show which “baggage” should be eliminated in the near future, which priority tasks should be solved in order to make a planned breakthrough in socio-economic development and get into the TOP-5 largest economies in the world.

Aging of the world population risks to be accompanied by an increase of chronic health problems, and most particularly of mental health problems. To face to these problems the organization of care and education in old age psychiatry is still quite insufficient worldwide. Like in all countries in this part of the world, the geriatric psychiatry is still not enough represented. Only in some countries in Europe old age psychiatry is a recognized specialty (18% of European region countries responded at a WPA survey of teaching and training in OAP). The number of professionals working in the field is still very low to satisfy the needs of care of elderly with mental disorders. There is inadequate training for formal caregivers and lack of support for informal ones. This is the reason to support the development of postgraduate education on old age psychiatry as a priority in Europe. We discuss about teaching and training in old age psychiatry, psychiatric and psychological expertise exams and the assessment of competence in dementia and ethical aspect of care and research in elderly demented people. We also present some aspects of elderly sexuality and abuse and about mental health from strategy to reality and dementia care in different Europe countries.Chairs: Horacio Firmino-Portugal, Nicoleta Tataru-Romania.Speakers:1.Alexandra Milicevic-Kalasic, Serbia: ‘Mental Health in Serbia-from Strategy to Reality’.2.Horacio Firmino, Portugal: ‘Education on Old Age Psychiatry at Europe: facts and proposals’.3.Ilkin Icelly, Turkey: ‘Elderly abuse in Turkey’.4.Jerzy Leszek, Poland: ‘Dementia care in Poland’.

Abstract:
Today, issues of discrimination against people by age due to the aging population of most European countries attract the attention of world and domestic science and are a controversial and multifaceted problem of a social, economic and moral nature. In this context, the consideration of ageism as an independent and peculiar object of applied research is undoubtedly of great scientific and practical interest. A review of points of view on the category of “ageism” gave reason to believe that today there are a number of “white spots” and gaps of a methodological nature that do not allow us to fully and statistically correctly characterize the state and characteristics of age discrimination as a social problem, but also to interpret the available data, to create a reliable picture of the world in relation to the transformation of the value orientations of society.

Abstract:
AbstractOne prominent feature of analytic metaphysics in the second half of the twentieth century was the revival of metaphysical debate over modality, and in this paper I suggest that a particular position that emerged within this debate, ‘modal actualism’, bears a striking resemblance to the way that Hegel discusses modal notions in the final chapter of Book 2 of the Science of Logic, ‘Wirklichkeit’ or ‘Actuality’. Modal actualists opposed David Lewis’s counter-intuitive claims about the existence of alternate possible worlds, and aimed to reconcile the reality of alternate possibilities with the common-sense idea of the actual world as all there is. Like Hegel in the chapter ‘Actuality’, they thus argue that possible alternatives to the actual world must, somehow, exist within the actual world. Here I approach these issues via the ideas of John N. Findlay who, in the 1950s, had attempted to reintroduce Hegel into an Anglophone philosophical culture, but who also influenced the later development of modal actualism via his influence on the modal logician, Arthur Prior. Like certain actualists, Findlay distinguished between two modes of predication in order to distinguish, but relate, judgements about the actual from those about the possible. This predicative dualism is strikingly similar to the way Hegel distinguishes two types of predication in his treatment of judgement in Book 3 of the Science of Logic. Reading Hegel’s dualistic account of judgement structure against this background enables us to see how it was meant to provide a logical framework for the ‘actualist’ metaphysics he earlier sketched in the chapter, ‘Actuality’.
