Abstract:
The positive relationship between building performance and users’ satisfaction and behavior in new buildings has been widely studied. However, in the context of adaptively reused buildings converted from historic buildings, how each performance aspect affects users’ perception is missing. To explore the design concerns needed to be considered related to the performance of adaptively reused buildings from user’s perspective, this paper proposed a framework to examine the effect of performance of adaptively reused buildings on users’ satisfaction and behavior using structural equation modeling. A total of 608 valid face-to-face interview questionnaires were collected at a school building converted from an abandoned industrial building. The empirical conclusions are as follows: (1) Building performance (including indoor environment quality, interior design, building services, and authenticity) all exerted a significant positive correlation with the learning behavior of students, among which indoor environment quality is the most critical factor affecting learning behavior of students. (2) Students’ satisfaction is positively affected by the building performance (including indoor environment quality, interior design, building services, and authenticity), among which authenticity has the greatest effect on students’ satisfaction. (3) The correlation between satisfaction and learning behavior of students is significant and positive. (4) Considering the mediator impact, authenticity indirectly affects learning behavior through satisfaction, while students’ satisfaction has a partially mediating effect between the other three performance aspects and learning behavior. This paper provides a framework for assessing the performance of adaptively reused buildings and gives practical strategies for the improvement of users’ satisfaction and behavior in similar projects.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide an integrative theoretical framework that advances the underdeveloped stream of research that analyses how message authenticity influences the persuasiveness of corporate social responsibility (CSR) communication. Design/methodology/approach Theoretical and empirical literature on authenticity is reviewed to provide a comprehensive definition of message authenticity in CSR communication. An integrative theoretical framework is also developed to understand how message authenticity is enhanced through the design of informational content and it improves consumer responses to CSR communication. Findings The framework presented in the paper defends that message authenticity can be integrated in communication models based on three streams of research: identity-based brand management model, attribution theory and heuristic-systematic model. Consumer attributions of message authenticity can be notably improved with a message design based on CSR fit, social topic information and specificity. Authenticity improves message and source credibility by reducing consumer scepticism and enhancing their attributions of corporate expertise and trustworthiness. Indirect benefits of CSR message authenticity include increased consumer purchase, loyalty and advocacy behaviours. Originality/value The value of the paper resides in making the rather underdeveloped and inconclusive literature on authenticity accessible to CSR and communication researchers and practitioners. A theoretical framework is provided for further research that would contribute to improving the knowledge on the role that message authenticity plays in CSR communication.

Abstract:
Purpose Brand authenticity has emerged as a strategic imperative for many firms. The purpose of this paper is to empirically examine the effect of consumer perceptions of brand marketing communications on brand authenticity of fast-moving consumer goods. Design/methodology/approach Direct and indirect pathways from brand marketing communications to brand authenticity were conceptualized. Data were collected from US energy drink consumers and analysed using structural equation modelling. Multiple marketing mix variables and context-relevant covariates have been controlled for. Findings Direct and indirect pathways to building brand authenticity have been observed. The total effect of brand marketing communications on brand authenticity is strong, thereby highlighting the predictor’s overall effectiveness in shaping the ultimate outcome. Research limitations/implications The focus on consumer-perceived authenticity as opposed to objective authenticity complements the prior literature. An integrative perspective on brand marketing communications is offered, specifying it as an antecedent of perceived brand authenticity. Practical implications An important implication is that investments into brand marketing communications will likely influence perceived brand authenticity. Such investments may also have favourable implications for the clarity of brand positioning. Overall, brand marketing communications are effective tools for building consumer-perceived brand authenticity. Originality/value A need to outline managerially controllable drivers of authenticity was addressed. How consumer perceptions of brand marketing communications influence brand authenticity via direct and indirect mechanisms was demonstrated. The existence of authenticity in fast-moving consumer goods was also demonstrated.

Abstract:
Along with the depth of the process of urbanization, more and more attention has been paid to the protection of the historic buildings, while the design of the renovation is an important component during the constructing. Many historical buildings were damaged due to improper protection method. So protection methods should have a principle. Principle of "authenticity" is an important protection principle generally recognized in the world. Historical building protection should be based on principles of "authenticity". In the renovation of historic city, people should attach great importance to the protection of architectural features, including architectural style, architectural form, architecture color, architectural language.

Abstract:
Over the past decade, numerous studies have counselled managers to attend to the fourfold task of increasing quality, developing leadership, building teams, and shaping the organizational culture. Today, these recommendations and the once-exciting examples of the “vanguard” corporations (O’Toole, 1985) who first advanced the frontiers of practice appear to be the staples of conventional wisdom. We’ve heard the sermon, yet, it would be hard to contend that the challenges posed by the four-fold agenda have been universally mastered or implemented across the corporate landscape.

This paper aims to simulate adjustments for new functions in hospitals that respect the authenticity of cultural heritage buildings. The development of heritage buildings should be integrated, especially in adjusting building functions, such as room arrangement. The emergency room is a vital function for hospital services, and consideration is needed to arrange procedures. The research method chosen in this research is descriptive qualitative with a case study in the Magdalena Daeman building St Elizabeth Hospital. Design simulation can be realized by adjusting the standard emergency room requirements into the layout of the building. Additionally, cultural heritage buildings should be maintained to be used in operational functions by carrying out development. This study's results can be a guideline in developing new functions of cultural heritage buildings that meet the conservation technique guidelines.

Abstract:
The surviving examples of the architecture of ‘Samara Constructivism’ from the 1920s and 1930s are surveyed, from which ten of the most valuable buildings in acute need of restoration are identified. The basic principles of a conservation strategy are formulated, primarily: authenticity - favouring conservation of original materials and architectural arrangements wherever possible; due consideration of the immediate architectural and urban contexts; and reversibility - a presumption against interventions of a permanent nature which might harm the historical significance of the building. Concrete measures are described for restoring and adapting these buildings to modern use, including remedial works to building fabric, facade reconstruction and works to the adjacent streetscape and landscaping. Options for future use are discussed. These particular examples suggest the basis for a general approach to the restoration of Constructivist buildings of the 1920s and 1930s in Samara, in both functional and aesthetic terms, such that their authenticity and uniqueness is preserved.

Abstract:
In 2015, Historic Royal Palaces undertook a large-scale audience research study to explore how visitors to our sites understand the idea of authenticity and whether it matters. The key finding was that while visitors strongly agreed that historic building fabric and objects are important, their primary response to authenticity is emotional. Whether a space feels authentic is not simply about the material originality of the building and objects. Re-creations, human, and multisensory experiences were often seen as adding to authenticity. This research is informing and shaping Historic Royal Palaces’s work, most notably the re-presentation of Henry VIII’s Kitchens at Hampton Court Palace which opened in May 2018, combining historic building fabric and fixtures, re-created furniture and objects, groundbreaking use of audiovisuals (AV), and live interpretation led by our team of food historians. Taking Henry VIII’s Kitchens as a case study, this article will reveal Historic Royal Palaces’s research into visitor perceptions of authenticity and how this is being applied in practice.

Abstract:
Relationships are so entrenched in the social interaction between individuals that most people do not pay attention to them until they experience trouble in their relationship. Humans create new relationships and end old ones all the time in conscious and unconscious processes. This thesis will give a theoretical and practical overview to reveal the process of social interaction which shapes relationships between a leader and a follower. We focus on the necessary components as well as on the process in which the relationship is built. We approach the process of social interaction from both the side of the leader and the side of the follower to create a balanced picture that will provide systematic explanation of this complicated and multidimensional phenomenon. The primary focus of this thesis will be on the origin and development of an authentic, healthy relationship between a leader and a follower.

Abstract:
Thesis (MTech (Design))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2016.
Historical interiors hold within them significance which provides us with cultural identity, as well as historical and aesthetic value, and their physical materials offer us a connection to the past. These interiors and their functions often become obsolete and need to acquire a new function that is more suited to our modern-day society. One such change in function which was identified to be steadily on the rise in Cape Town is the reappropriation of historical interiors into contemporary exhibition venues. It was noted that during this process many of these historical interiors end up as neutral contemporary white boxes, where the whole historical interior is replaced or concealed by a pristine white interior and this leads to a loss of its internal historical aesthetic value. To counter this and to retain the significant aesthetics of these interiors for ourselves and our future generations, heritage legislation offers a certain amount of protection through their respective guidelines and principles during adaptation. However, these guidelines do not offer concrete methods on the responsive adaptation of historical interiors into contemporary exhibition spaces. To address this problem and provide a substitute for the white box, alternative methods for the responsive adaptation of the historical interior into a contemporary exhibition space are highlighted and investigated. Through this investigation, this study aims to provide responsive approaches which interior designers may adopt during adaptation that respect, acknowledge and highlight the significance of the reappropriated space in the design of contemporary exhibition venues.

Abstract:
Abstract The functional usage of historical buildings is essential for their preservation. However, it appears to be very difficult to find satisfactory solutions especially when deciding new uses for them. This research focuses on the problem of the re-use of historical buildings from the point of view of the tasks of architecture and restoration. The aim of this research is, firstly, to examine the history of the re-use of historical buildings and, secondly, to identify the premises for their functional integrity and authenticity, both of which are considered crucial in restorations. Since antiquity the Latin concept utilitas has been referred to as the primary task of architecture: to be useful and functional. In this research the theme of utilitas has been observed through architectural and restoration theories and examples of re-use from different periods. Even if the re-use of old buildings has been common throughout history, it is only since the modern restoration approach of the 19th century that the functionality of historical buildings has been considered important in their preservation. Among restoration debates during the 20th century the functionality and the re-use of historical buildings have been considered only occasionally. However, among theoretical discussions on architecture functionality has been one of the most central themes of the century. Can a historical building be authentic even if its original function has changed? The main issue in the re-use of historical buildings is not to find technical solutions or methodologies, but to understand the more profound intentions for the building. Historical buildings cannot be distinguished from the reality and the requirements of human beings of today. In the restorations there must be an equilibrium between the historical legacy and the requirements of the present. Analyzing historical buildings from the point of view of functional integrity offers not only a new method but also new possibilities to discover planning solutions in the re-use of the historical buildings — respecting both the past and the present
Vaikka historiallisia rakennuksia on aina muutettu uusiin tarkoituksiin vasta 1800-luvulla alettiin korostaa käyttötarkoituksen merkitystä historiallisten rakennusten säilymiselle.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate upper secondary school pupils' attitudes to outdoor learning. It is a qualitative study done at the Bernadotte upper secondary school in Stockholm. The study is based on participant observations during two days and on semi-structured interview questions with 12 pupils in three focus groups. The results show that pupils in upper secondary school experience outdoor learning as positive. The pupils argue that those exercises constitute an important complement to traditional education and that outdoor education increases both motivation and understanding due to the authenticity it offers. This positive impression is strengthened if the educational situation is perceived as relevant and authentic.

Abstract:
Historic commercial centres are subject to continuous change and transformation due to the changing socio-economic and cultural structure and relations of production and consumption. Organized within a traditional structure, these spaces have survived until today with their altering meanings and different identities as well as the restructuration they went through because of the socio-economic transformation processes. Besides, they are not only shopping areas or consumption spaces but also urban areas with a traditional style of manufacture and crafts. Theoretical discussions on the conservation of historic city centres focus on issues such as integration of city centres into contemporary life with functions that do not have adverse effects on the authentic characteristics of historic streets and urban fabrics, the role of new functions, activities and structures in the historic fabric, and participation in the conservation process. Historic buildings adopt functions that are different from their original functions due to changing life styles. Having functioned in a well-organized order and shaped by the socio-cultural and economic structure of their eras, they are subject to interventions due to the functions required by the present conditions, such as the addition of a mezzanine or the establishment of a connection between spaces. As a result of these interventions, the original plan schemes and authentic characteristics of historic buildings have changed. This thesis aims at identifying the types of commercial functions that intervene into the authentic design characteristics of commercial buildings located in the historic commercial centre. To this end, the Commercial Centre of Bursa was chosen as the case and the change in the functions of the hans located in this area was examined in detail.

Abstract:
Time and cost effective experimental verification and accuracy procedures are the first and utmost requirements in ship building research conducted in towing tank. This paper presents towing tank experimental setup and procedures to acquire acoustic and hydrodynamic data at the same time for a moonpool experiment. The same technique can be applied on a variety of configurations to acquire combined acoustic and hydrodynamic data. In present work the experimental technique possesses the ability to monitor pressure fluctuations, acoustics, free surface wave height inside a moonpool and structural vibration of a moonpool model at the same time with a better estimation and accuracy. The results are compared with numerical modeling, empirical relations and a detailed collected data comparison analysis is given in light of ‘Empirical Mode Decomposition’ (EMD) method. Collected data from sensors are proved to be in engineering practice limits proving the importance and authenticity of the data acquisition procedure discussed here. We believe that the results and methods given in this paper have surely a permanent space in the technical literature.

Abstract:
Novel coronavirus pneumonia strikes the city in 2020, making this year special. It also brings us to the attention of the city's public safety and health problem, which directly affects the city's healthy and sustainable development. During the Spring Festival, a large number of migrant workers in labour-intensive cities and towns returned to their places of residence, forming a large-scale population migration across the country, increasing the difficulty of controlling the epidemic. This paper analyzes the labour migration, medical support, government measures and residents of labour-intensive cities and towns, understands the underlying logic of the epidemic situation, puts forward some solutions for urban disaster prevention and control, and increases urban resilience. It mainly includes: 1) building a population mobility information platform, using big data and network to accurately locate, to guide the later epidemic prevention and control and to prevent secondary infection; 2)To solve the problem of insufficient implementation of urban medical supporting facilities and avoid infection on the way to medical treatment, we should set up a temporary medical treatment point according to the "cell neighbourhood" approach in the city; 3)Make good use of online official channels to shorten the time lag between governments in transmitting information and taking measures; 4) It is significant to encourage residents to join in the epidemic prevention and control, to improve the residents' awareness of prevention and control and the ability to distinguish the authenticity of information.

Abstract:
Gravel, salt, sand, cobbles, and scrap metal – dry bulk materials fundamental to making and maintaining the built environment – are piled in or around coastal cities. The pile is the architecture of the holding stage between a material’s arrival and accumulation from one mode (such as ship or rail) and its distribution into the city through another (most commonly, the truck). Although these piles often approach the scale of large buildings and natural landforms, and their presence is a fixture in the built environment, they are overlooked as a matter of design. In recent decades, some artists and architects have explored piles and pile-making as an abstract formal condition or alternative to conventional modes of formal organization, but engaging the pile as an active form-making structure in the city has been confined to designating territories for piles through use based zoning protocols (“industrial”), or through the construction of containers to enclose them (sheds). Both of these standard practices fail to negotiate the distinctive qualities of piles as a temporary, kinetic, and authentic architecture in the city, and inhibit the collective engagement between the city and an expression of its global material footprint. This paper will explore the morphology of piles and present tactics for engaging them in pursuit of new notions of authenticity, monumentality, and temporality as a byproduct of global flow through three realized projects by our firm, Landing Studio, that choreograph the architecture of industrial road-salt piles in Boston and New York City.

This negletc state produces a serious problem related to a wider phenomenon of abandonment of entire portions of italian territories. Realities that differ form the city because of their morphology: Does urban shape represent an urban limit? or is it an alternative testimony to the city? Research purpose is to understand how relationship, between these cases and the territory, works; in particular during the absence of the main component: the human one. The case study Santo Stefano di Sessanio, an ancient village in the center of Italy, inhabited until 90's, shows how the examination of urban shape represents the potentiality of his own revitalization. By relating his historical identity to the scattered hotel projectual approach, it contributes to combine conservation, valorization and sustainability of the existing building fabric, in order to claim the authenticity of these villages declaring their own autonomy and dimension to major urban centers polarization. In this example transformation is meant as conscious project that grow up from the built reality not from the project itself, transformation as knowledge of urban facts, tool to approach to the structure of this reality.
