Abstract:
The book of Revelation is a disorienting work, full of beasts, heavenly journeys, holy war, the End of the Age, and the New Jerusalem. It is difficult to follow the thread that ties the visions together and to makes sense of the work’s message. This book argues that one way to understand the strange history of Revelation and its challenging texts is to go back to its manuscripts. The texts of the Greek manuscripts of Revelation are the foundation for the words that we encounter when we read Revelation in a modern Bible. But the manuscripts also tell us what other ancient, medieval, and early modern people thought about the work they copied and read. The paratexts of Revelation—the many features of the manuscripts that help readers to navigate and interpret the text—are one important point of evidence. Incorporating such diverse features like the traditional apparatus that accompanies ancient commentaries to the random marginal notes that identify the identity of the beast, paratexts are founts of information on how other mostly anonymous people interpreted Revelation’s problem texts. This book argues that manuscripts are not just important for textual critics or antiquarians, but that they are important for scholars and serious students because they are the essential substance of what the New Testament is. This book illustrates ways that the manuscripts illuminate surprising answers to important critical questions, like the future of the critical edition in the digital age, the bibliography of the canon, and the methods of reception history.

Abstract:
This chapter complete the argument against physicalism. The chapter defends the thesis of Revelation, roughly the thesis that we stand in a special epistemic relationship to our conscious states such that (i) their nature is introspectively revealed to us, and (ii) we know with something close to certainty that they are instantiated. Revelation is supported on the grounds that it is the best explanation of Super-Justification, roughly the thesis that certain truths about our conscious experience can be known with something close to certainty. Revelation implies that we grasp the essences of our conscious states, and hence it secures the crucial premise of the transparency conceivability argument outlined in the last chapter. However, Revelation is also inconsistent with physicalism in a more straightforward way: Revelation in conjunction with physicalism entails that we have introspective access to the supposed physical nature of our conscious states, which is clearly not the case.

Abstract:
Important medieval Jewish thinkers such as Saadia Gaon and Baḥya ibn Pakuda assigned a crucial role to reason and the intellect in their understanding of Judaism. They did not thereby challenge Jewish tradition as much as show its rational depth and truth. They believed that tradition supports reason, and reason is to be employed in deepening our understanding of tradition. This view also shaped their conceptions of holiness. Our best understanding of divine wisdom and the commandments—and thus, our best prospect for striving to be holy—involves the exercise of reason. Revelation is a source of rational wisdom. Although the holiness attainable by human beings is not purely or exclusively intellectual, it depends on an appreciation of divine holiness through the understanding.

Brent, James. Thomas Aquinas. Edited by William J. Abraham and Frederick D. Aquino. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199662241.013.30.

Abstract:
Although Thomas Aquinas is perhaps known best for his natural theology and arguments for the existence of God, he thought that there were manifold ways of knowing God available to human beings. This chapter distinguishes and identifies within Aquinas’s thought seven such ways. One can know God (1) by a general and confused knowledge, (2) by a philosophical wisdom, (3) by divine revelation, (4) by faith, (5) by mystical wisdom, (6) by theological wisdom, and (7) by beatific vision. The chapter discusses the epistemic nature, properties, and limits of all seven. The main point is that Aquinas’s thought is rich enough to accommodate and account for all seven ways of knowing God. Such a comprehensive overview of Aquinas helps move past polemical contexts in which Aquinas is charged with reducing the knowledge of God to natural theology or failing to prioritize the Word of God.

Abstract:
Born in the 13th century, in the effervescence of what was considered the best moment of the medieval period, intellectual productions had two ways of expression.; First was Comments, essential in the development of knowledge in this century. The other one was the product of scholasticism, called Summa. The name itself reflects the intention of the intellectuals of the period to offer ‘a documented and argued synthesis of a philosophy that was not separate’ from its theological aspect. The Summa had some famous names but the most important definitely was Thomas Aquinas, who lived between 1225 until 1274. His master piece work unfinished with his death at the age of 49, but in any case, it can be seen that Summa recognizes the reason to allow man to know God, identified as “theology from below” and Theology from above” in the identification of divine truth that reaches man, beyond the intellect, through the means of revelation. This present book now, was built from different moments by the author, at the University, newspaper and magazines specializing in the history of religious. Besides that, there is one other paper without published yet.
