Abstract:
In this essay Murakami Haruki’s novel The Wind Up Bird Chronicle was analysed from the perspective of Mikhail Bakhtin’s theory of the chronotope. The aim was to explore the concept of time and space as presented in the novel. In particular, the analysis focused on how Bakhtin’s chronotopes can be applied to The Wind Up Bird Chronicle, how the chronotopes can enhance our understanding of the novel, and finally how the chronotope theory can be applied to the concept of ‘magic realism’ that is often used to describe Murakami’s authorship. Four chronotopes, presented by Bachtin, were selected and applied to the novel: every-day life, the road, crisis and the castle. The concept of the chronotope allows analysis of how time and space work together in literature and how they form patterns of correlation in the sujet. Results showed that the four chronotopes were found in the novel, and that they also interacted with each other. The chronotope of everyday-life was apparent throughout the novel, and the narrator was under its control. The narrator also seemed to create every-day life out of the chronotopes of the road and crisis by re-living the crises in the road. These three chronotopes seemed inseparable in The Wind Up Bird Chronicle. Finally, the fourth chronotope, the castle, illustrated how a concrete room in the novel, a house, became a part of time and space through a character who, by his presence, gave the impression of slowing down time. When this character disappeared, time made its way through space, making the chronotope of the castle visible. The essay concludes that the chronotope theory was a relevant way to analyse The Wind Up Chronicle as it provided a concept of how time and space appeared together in a novel where time and space is always present. The analysis helped creating a way of understanding the patterns in the novel, which were not always clear, thereby also increasing the understanding of The Wind Up Bird Chronicle.

Abstract:
Background Tube-feeding or nutritional support is a therapy for people who can’t get enough nutrition by eating or drinking. You may need it if you have difficulty swallowing, loss of appetite, are severely malnourished or have inability to absorb nutrients through your digestive system. There are several diagnoses associated with tube-feeding, depending on the persons diagnose and users state the user can be tied to the tube-feeding equipment from 3 to 18 hours a day. In Sweden there are around 1500-3000 adults in need of tube-feeding outside the hospitals.   Method This report is made by Cindy Sjöblom and is an individual student’s work. The project is her dissertation and final project at the two year Masters program Advanced Product Design at Umeå Institute of Design. The project has been executed during 20 weeks the spring 2015. The project is based on the design process which includes the following phases; Research & Analysing, Ideation & Concept’s and Detailing & Visualization. The Research & Analysis phase has included; Product analysis, user interviews & observations, market outlook, anatomical knowledge, problem listing and opportunity findings. The Ideation & Concept’s phase has included; Inspiration, persona creation, creative workshop, sketching, concepts creation, mock-up building, user testing & feedback. The Detailing & Visualization phase has included; 3D modelling, moodboard creation, sketching, final model building, photo shooting, video recording, documentation, presentation and a poster and exhibition stand at Umeå Institute of Design and at Semcon, Gothenburg. Result Tubie is an ambulatory tube-feeding system to facilitate an active everyday life for people in need of enteral nutrition. Tubie consists out of six parts; A nutrition pump and a wireless charging station, a nutrition bag and an external tubing, a wearable waist band and an application for a smart device to be able to control the pump. Unlike traditional enteral nutritions systems, Tubie is designed with a focus on the users in a home environment and their need for a more active lifestyle and discreet usage in social environments. Tubie is simply discreet due to its wearable features that allows the user to wear it underneath the clothing as well as control the pump via a smart device with an adaptable pre-alarm that sounds like any other text message or ring tone.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The everyday survival of the other at the border between ‘East’ and ‘West’ is the object of this study. The country in-between, Estonia, is a ‘melting pot’ of Russian, Western and Nordic influence, what makes this zone an active, diverse, nevertheless invisible in the global awareness. The process of transition and rapid neoliberalization, which is characteristic for the post-socialist country such as Estonia, brings together number of side-effects, lots of redundant people, who could not adapt to the new regime, who speculate and trade. The investigation of ‘Russian’ semi-official spaces of trade in Estonian capital, Tallinn, reveals the values and defects of the open-air markets.  The thesis highlights the need to politicize the processes around the disappearing and/or transforming the open-air markets in the city. In spite of the fact, that the informal trading is often connected with poverty, illegality, low hygiene, distrust and crime, this work explores the alternative ways of trading, the power of immediacy and aesthetics in confrontation to the global capital. The architecture as the transversal practice cuts across the patterns of trading based on irresponsible consumerism and desire, and experiments with the original concept of the market with the dialogue in front. The speculative interventions are the sites of the common life, production and renewal.

Abstract:
We examined the effects of bright light on social interaction and mood in healthy individuals with mild seasonality. In a cross-over design, 38 mildly seasonal individuals received three weeks of bright light and three weeks of placebo (low-density negative ions). Using an event-contingent method participants recorded their mood and behaviours during social interactions and wore a light-sensor actigraphy at the wrist to monitor adherence to home based light exposure. During light administration, 23 participants adhered to the light protocol and exhibited more quarrelsome behaviours and no change in mood. Participants who provided no evidence of adherence had similar mood and social behaviour during both interventions. The results indicate the need for effective methods for determining adherence to the protocol in light studies. Furthermore, in individuals with mild seasonality light administration may not improve mood and may have adverse effects on social behaviour.

The journalistic threads with which everyday life is entwined are the narrative articulations that this thesis analyzes. It investigates the temporal identity of journalistic narratives and the value that time plays for such a type of communication, by checking the contributions of journalism to the perception of social time. This research also investigates the notions of time that contribute to its legitimacy, while separating journalistic narrations into the production of past, present and future. The thesis purposes analyze these productions in two ways – as commemorations and as events - and investigates the need to celebrate the past and the ways that this celebration experience takes as history, as tradition and as memory, three different strategies of narratives of bygone days. It also notes the participation of the past in the construction of news, a particular form of producing events, different from that held by the historiographical operation. We present a typology of the uses of time in daily narratives of three newspapers with more than one hundred years in Rio de Janeiro: Jornal do Commercio, O Fluminense and Jornal do Brasil. These uses of time expose some functions performed by journalistic practices in everyday life, especially that of counting the course of time, either fixing it or potentiating its flow effect. Then, this thesis shows the concepts of history involved in these journalistic emplotments and, in a broader approach, investigates the long-term processes of signifying journalism by the different connections we have established over time with this social practice. Finally, we highlight the importance of journalistic narratives to frame multiple consciousness of history, due to their daily work of synthesizing gates to other times, whether to the past or to the future or even to the present as an extended territoriality larger than experiences personally attended. We tend to approach journalism as a particular form of social interaction, defined by a specific experience based on the periodicity and for whom most of its history has been based on the expectation and the generation of novelties.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to create a social-cultural history about the city of Sorocaba, in the corresponding period between the decade of 1890, when industrialization is intensified in the city, and the first years of the decade of 1940. Therefore the object to be studied is the city of Sorocaba itself during this period; the challenge is also to reflect about the entrance and specificity of the city in the modernity flow, a historical process regulated by the transformation and intensification of the capitalistic relations in the country. Concerning this issue, I intend to investigate aspects of the urban development that took place in Sorocaba, so in order to think of the city as an artifact, it is crucial to study a few fundamental urban improvements, like the introduction of the water and drain system and the use of electricity, and the representations, impressions and perceptions elaborated in this context that interact with these transformations. The idea is to search for and grasp the physiognomy of the city. Such modifications are implemented by the local governing elites, which consequently build an image of the city that would become known as the Manchester of São Paulo. Therefore, the aim is to analyze and historicize this symbolic construction, connecting it with other representations/ perceptions of the urbe, produced by several groups, segments and social classes in the daily routine, by this means the endeavor is to grasp the various practices, forms of sociability, that occur among different actors in the urban space as a consequence of the modifications that the city goes through during the observed period.

Abstract:
This thesis is about the every day life of children who suffer from economic hardship. The aim is, from the children's point of view, to create an understanding of the consequences that economic hardship has on their relationships with their parents and other children. A further aim is to gain an understanding of how children act in relation to the families' economic situation and how they experience their every day life and general living conditions. Parents have also been interviewed about the families' general living conditions and the interaction between children and parents in relation to the economic situation. The empirical data has been collected over a period of fourteen months. Fourteen children aged 7-19 years and eight parents in seven families have been interviewed on five occasions. A total of 44 interviews have been conducted. The theoretical foundation of the thesis is childhood sociology, symbolic interactionism and social identity. The conclusions of this thesis can be summarized in two major results. The first is that economic hardship is of importance in the relationship with other children and in the interaction between children and their parents. The children's possibilities of participating together with peers through possessions and activities are affected to a varying extent depending on the circumstances. The relationship with their parents is also affected by children having to take economic responsibility and by children cooperating with them. Economic hardship also causes a strain on the relationship. The second major result is that children are active in forming theirs and their families' every day life in relation to the economic limits. On the basis of their understanding and their definition of the situation they choose different strategies, the aims of which are either to live within the limitations of the situation, so-called reactive strategies, or to change their own situation and sometimes also the situation of their household. These are defined as proactive strategies in the thesis.

Abstract:
This paper aims to study the social aggregations’ every day life from Praça da Alfândega, located in the center of Porto Alegre city in Rio Grande Sul. The aspects of relationship and identity, the subjective and esthetic expressions, the borders of acquaintance as well as the territories settled by people who compounded these social groups in the space of Praça da Alfândega were investigated. Besides, this paper also aims to discuss relevant questions about the function of public space, citizenship and aspects about the forms of sociability and unsociability in modern metropolis. It is possible to affirm that Praça da Alfândega, on this mosaic of social representation adjacent territories and symbols form an important locus of analysis about urban space. For this reason, it becomes a dichotomic space both of material survival and of social acquaintance for the social forms, called social aggregations. Because of this reason, the study of the social aggregations’ every day life settled in Praça da Alfândega constitutes also an investigation about recent urban phenomena and their several and emergent social practices according to ways of life, symbolical forms, and settlement in big cities.

Abstract:
The aim of this dissertation is to describe and analyze how discourse as a theoretical and didactical concept can help in advancing knowledge about the teaching of mathematics in school. The dissertation has been written within a socio-cultural perspective where active participation and support from artefacts and mediation are viewed as important contributions to the development of understanding. Discourse analysis was used as a theoretical point of departure to grasp language use, knowledge construction and mathematical content in the teaching practises. The collection of empirical data was made up of video and audio tape recordings of the interaction of teachers and pupils in mathematics classrooms when they deal with problem-solving tasks, as well as discussions between student teachers as they engage in planning a teaching situation in mathematics. Discourse analysis was used as a tool to shed light upon how pupils learn and develop understanding of mathematics. The results of my studies demonstrate that discussions very often are located in either a mathematical or in an every-day discourse. Furthermore, the results demonstrate how change between every-day and mathematical language often takes place unknowingly. Also the results underline that a specific and precise dialogue can contribute towards teachers’ and pupils’ conscious participation in the learning process. Translated into common vocabulary such as speak, think, write, listen and read teachers and pupils would be able to interact over concepts, signs, words, symbols, situations and phenomena in every-day discourse and its mathematical counterpart. When teachers and pupils become aware of discursive boundary crossing in mathematics an understanding of mathematical phenomena can start to develop. Teachers and pupils can construct a meta-language leading to new knowledge and new learning in mathematics.

Abstract:

Rousseau analysiert. Abstract:

Abstract:
The didactics of adult education are usually studied with normative and deductive analytical instruments, which tend to produce results that merely confirm the researcher’s initial observations. This dissertation—an ethnomethodological case study—develops an analytical model for helping the learning facilitator arrive at the self-explication of a specific empirical and didactic reality by interpreting its constituent social and behavioral patterns and aspects through an abductive procedure the author calls “hermeneutics of action”. It effectively informs the decoding of both a specific and an overall context. This analytical tool, which the author comes to name the “everyday didactic configuration model”,can illuminate the inside and outside perspectives on one’s own pedagogical techniques. The model is intended as a contribution to theory-building fruitful for the andragogical community of practice.

This thesis has been put in the background of My creating process at the present stage. It is necessary,to my creating process,to doubt honestly about, first, the body gesture itself which, for a long time, has been influenced deeply and heavily by the habitual thinking, and, secondly,my self-concept and ego which have been inscribed, tamed and instructed out-and-out.It is both my crisis and opportunity to do this. Therefore,I will work out this treatise“creepingly”in the form of doubt-presenting and self-examining. In the foreword ,I try to present the condition on which the creators’ ego-self could be stretched and extended through his creative skills, and then try to arrange my thoughts of this creative argument and its dimensions. From this,I continue to point out the fact that only through insistent tries and accurate description can an artist achieve a desirable degree of adjacency of art---a kind of touching through which a creating body enters into its environment subtly and profoundly. The first chapter is a kind of presentation through question-and-answer in which I ask myself and I answer myself. My discussion goes round several topics concerning creating process and the sculpting of the creators’self. I observe myself along the crossing lines of questions and answers in which I act both as “me” and as the “others” Creation,in a way, proceeds on the eternally incessant rolling waves of asking and answering. Chapter two clarifies that the creator is part of the land, growing on the land, growing in the natural environment, mutually depending on each other.Regarding to the artistic and literal expressing in the existing situation of creation, and to the cleansing and changing between body, language and labor. The creator,in creating, must understand himself through the physical labor as he can,and practice some kind of restricted self-caring,to win the quality of “languagelessness”which bears a strong power to express some unique silence. That is a kind of spiritual sedimentation and a vital springing of the creative life. Chapter three argues that creating is a kind of silent self-to-self conversations---I write and I read,I speak and I listen, and I pile up a “me”in a secret mansion through the “other’s” hands. Besides,I,adopting dialectics between self and non-self,use the concept of “side-cutting”---cracking-in or breaking-out from the out-skirt of a meditating self,to study the active elements and structure of “self-caring”. The creative works presented in chapter four are expansions of my adolescence fancies.Placed in a cut-broken after-teenagerhood vacant spiritual space of enlightenment, and dreaming with a materialistic ahead-going,I try to recomb out the elemental body of creating, and come back home to the spiritual wildland. Then I work to clarify my body-view of creating and put it into a body practicing,to creat my inner scenery through language and non-language. In chapter five ,giving comments on the life skills and the main life-elements,I enter my good-old-days ‘mansion”---under time variations, though “chewing of cud,”letting caring come back to myself, practicing wholemindedly “selfcaring” or“getting away from self---and try to construct a practical life aesthetics. And in the concluding chapter,I make the point that a creative writing is presented in the looks of it literal mansion which can be shared by others as it offers a kind of “blankness”in which the author, through his practical inner inspection and brewing, undertakes a changing process from daily-life-experiences to work-experiences.But,such blankness,as referring to creating itslf,is still a traceable ahead-leading trail between creating and thinking.

Abstract:
The notion of everyday life is inevitably linked to the present. Art arises from theexperience of individuals, their intentions and the circumstances of any place. And,every artist inevitably participates in the daily life that he / she shares with his / her audience. We must therefore think of the moments when we encounter new situations, atrandom in everyday life. It opens up to others, to a world that is indifferent, dangerous, but also seductive and fascinating. This experience would be considered as a way tostop the world, to stop the mechanical life and space, if only for a brief moment. Inshort, the "here and now" is manifested through visual tools, exacerbating, in particular, the features of a milieu, an environment, a place. This thesis attempts to narrate someprocesses involved in the production of works, in order to insist for each work on methodsof expression and transformation. It will then be a question of presenting the worksunder the sign of a daily reading, in the optics of a rediscovery of forms and, cultures, with a centered attention on the man: his representation, his environment and his modeof life are the three components of this thesis. More precisely, it is a matter of testingthese notions of "monad" and "nomad" in the real space of life. For this reason, thisstudy could be perceived as a momentum comparable to an art lived "here and now".Unlike painting, in this respect, this art is not only representable by a variety of people in itself, but it has a limit in that it can not solicit the same reactions from each of thesepeople. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is that there is no imposition of a certainbehavior, at a certain time in the face of a certain work, but rather an instantaneity assumedin the face of always renewed situations. Thus, through this thesis that drawsutopias of proximity, we question an urban bodily experience that differs from the usualreferences (city-neighborhood, territorial construction and identity). Our questioningtherefore remains guided by the consideration of variations of the urban by the body andvice versa. This thesis finally becomes possible to provoke the daily use of the meeting, toplay the practices of contemporary art, become the reflection of an amplified daily life. All this is a discourse heard but whose modalities, in our opinion, are constantly to bereconsidered and rebuilt. In this hypothesis, everyone becomes his own mediatorcontributing to the renewal and spectacularization of the world. Finally, we are back onthe wall yet we know that it is our job to graft the reality. At the same time, we haveagain the possibility of appealing to universality in an attempt to reveal the internalstructure of contemporary daily life, even though it would be a question ofcontemplating the duplicity and ambiguity of one's own daily existence

Abstract:
This thesis based on an archive research as well as interviews with eleven interviewees describes aspects of every day routine in the lives of western foreigners in Czechoslovakia during the nineteen-seventies and eighties. Testimonies of the interviewees are set in context where a special emphasis is placed on legislation and internal regulations mostly of bodies of the Ministry of Interior concerning Czechoslovak visa policy, the status of foreigner in relation to Czechoslovakian citizens (marriages) and the police apparatus (observing, tailing and monitoring). Based on the testimonies and the archive material it can be concluded that the Czechoslovakian regime did not see the western foreigners as a priori ideological enemies and tolerated their presence in Czechoslovakia. Bureaucratic procedures, however, were set in such a fashion that the foreigners could be closely observed. A fear of not having their stay extended, resp. being expelled, often led those interviewees who wanted to live in Czechoslovakia permanently to subconsciously avoid conflicts with the regime. All interviewees are critical of the former regime and are able to accurately characterize its nature and its main negative aspects, but at the same time they perceived positively certain aspects of life in the brought-into-line...
