Abstract:
This article focuses on the results of a research about teaching General Physics concepts to college students, and stresses the relevance of evaluating this kind of knowledge. Between 2009 and 2011, 4,535 students from the Pontifical Catholic University of Perú went through an evaluation process using the Force Concept Inventory test. The data results showed no significant improvement in the students’ learning process after having learned the concepts of force and motion, matters included in Physics 1 and Physics 2. The hardest concept to learn was Newton’s second law. Furthermore, a relevant

This thesis concerns the teaching of mathematics at university level, with a particular focus on the teaching of the function concept. The main aim of the thesis is describing and analysing the teaching practices of university mathematics teachers regarding the function concept, and how this concept is constituted through these practices. To this end, video recordings of lectures by seven mathematics teachers at three Swedish universities were analysed using a discursive perspective, Sfard’s commognitive framework. The observed teaching was traditional in form, with teachers using “chalk talk”

Book Summary: This revised volume brings together the best of the past with suggestions for the future and proves that teachers' imaginations continue to produce an interesting and varied range of ways to learn English within the broad guidelines of communicative language learning. New Ways in Teaching Adults, Revised provides classroom teachers with a range of activities for all stages of the learning process. The many activities included encourage discovery learning, provide practice, and extend students' learning beyond the classroom. Also, various activities allow students to work in pairs

Abstract:
There is concern that school history is often purposeless, taught by chalk and talk and textbook methods, giving thin and unassimilated information. At a time when subjects are under increasing scrutiny and pressure to justify their existence as relevant in the school curriculum, many of the defects inherent in the 'traditional' approach to history have made it difficult to present a forceful and valid argument for its continued inclusion as a school subject. This has led to the adoption of new approaches which are designed to get pupils more actively involved in their learning. Abstract:
Mathematics curricula, worldwide, focus on the teaching and learning of mathematical concepts, which foundation phase learners can use in their daily lives. However, literature and Grade 2 mathematics teachers alike, endorse the assertion by researchers that the mathematical concept of time (included in the measurement concept area) is often difficult for some young learners to understand. This study, therefore, focuses on the teaching and learning of analogue and digital time in Grade 2, in a South African context. This study, used a qualitative practitioner research approach within the emer

Abstract:
Sufficient research exists indicating that the brain mechanisms involved with use of whole brain teaching (WBT) techniques will likely lead to improved academic achievement and that academic self-concept (ASC) is both a cause and consequence of academic achievement. However, it is not known if there is a relationship between WBT and ASC. Given the benefits derived from positive ASC, it becomes important to assess WBT as a predictor variable of positive ASC. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relationship between different levels of exposure to WBT techniques and the mean

Abstract:
In this study food webs and a case study are used to investigate concepts which university students and high school pupils hold about ecology and the degree to which concept development has taken place at particular educational levels. The sample was drawn from first year zoology students and biology pupils in standards eight and ten. Present data indicate that students and pupils could solve problems involving the interactions of populations only if they were simple enough to be answered using strategies based on the food chain concept. Very few subjects could succesfully determine all the in
