This research aims to describe the connotation and denotation meanings in the song entitled Saat Kau Telah Mengerti (When You Understand) by Virgoun. In this article, the method used descriptive qualitative and analyses using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory, which discusses the concepts of denotation and connotation. According to Barthes' concept, a denotative sign consists of a signifier and a signified, but it also functions as a connotative sign. This means that the connotative sign not only has an additional meaning, but also consists of both parts of the denotative sign on which it is based. The results of this study reveal that there are ten song lyrics that contain denotative meaning and sixteen song lyrics that contain connotative meaning. The song Saat Kau Telah Mengerti has a meaning in the form of messages and hopes of parents to children. In its song, the songwriter as a parent wants to give the best for his child. However, action taken by parents for their children’s benefit can occasionally cause the child to feel upset or angry.

Abstract:
In the article, the connotative meanings related to sound reduction in the pronunciation of words are studied in English and Uzbek languages. Connotation is an additional meaning to the semantics of language units, which expresses the linguopragmatic and methodological attitude of the subject of speech to existence. Such relations have various manifestations, from which additional meanings in phonetic phenomena such as apheresis and elision have been elaborated. In particular, since the pronunciation of apheresis has connotative meanings such as certain speech lightness, gentleness, tenderness, it is revealed that they are actively used in the speech of characters in the artistic image. The connotative meanings of the phenomenon of elision in the two languages are analyzed on the basis of factual examples taken from the fiction literature of both languages. They show that connotative meanings such as brevity, excitement, melodiousness of rhythm, correctness of rhyme, gentleness, passion are expressed in speech.

Abstract:
In linguistics, there are different ideas about the ratio of the denotative and connotative sides of the meaning of a word. Despite the fact that additional contextual semantics, as a rule, has a larger information volume, connotative meanings are invariably perceived as secondary to denotative ones. Obviously, there is a pattern linking denotation with the connotation formed on its basis. The article considers the difference in connotations of quite distant from each other in terms of the degree of concreteness of words — nominal vocabulary denoting abstract concepts, and specific nouns of the thematic group of zoonyms. The result of the comparison is the conclusion about the correspondence of the volume of connotation and denotation as an inversely proportional dependence: the narrower the area of denotation, the greater the qualitative and quantitative potential of the word to develop connotative meaning, and vice versa — the more magnificent the bouquet of semantic elements associated with emotions, ratings, and ideas about the non-material side of the world, the less the lexeme has opportunities for the formation of additional values outside certain secondary modeling systems.

Abstract:
In linguistics, semantics studies how meaning is expressed through language, including sentences, phrases, and words. Connotative meaning, which gives words emotional depth and resonance, is significant in song lyrics. This study, titled “A Semantic Analysis of Connotative Meaning in Ben Howard’s Song Lyrics,” aims to explore the connotative meanings in Ben Howard's lyrics. The researcher chose five of his most popular songs on Spotify for this analysis. Using a qualitative descriptive analysis approach, the study looks into the sense of values and types of connotative meanings in the lyrics. The analysis shows that the songs’ themes affect the types of connotations found. Songs about love, vulnerability, and youth memories tend to have positive connotations, while themes of self-doubt, separation, and searching for life’s meaning have more negative and neutral connotations. Moreover, associative meaning is the most common connotative form, followed by affective, reflective, and allusive meanings. The findings indicate that song themes greatly influence the types of connotations used, with positive connotations more frequent in hopeful songs and negative ones in introspective songs. This research adds to language studies by offering insights into the complex and rich meanings in Ben Howard’s song lyrics.

Abstract:
The Portrait of Noken as a manifestation of the Existence of Papuans is seen from the perspective of the socio-cultural aspect, Noken, as a manifestation of the indigenous Papuan representation in its mandate, is only vague but its meaning is very deep. Its meanings can be both denotative and connotative. For example, the Noken called mesin, as a medium of transporting various types of goods, has a denotative meaning. In addition, it also has a connotative meaning, namely a person who is open and likes giving whatever he/she has in his/her Noken. The next connotative meaning is as a mother who carries the burden of life or as it is usually called ifaj uk aromat mowran (a women carrying a lot of burden), starting from the period of menstruation, conceiving, giving birth and breastfeeding, which is identical to a Noken called mesin. Unlike the case of Noken, which is called mecoi, this kind of Noken has two kinds of meanings, namely denotatively as a means of transporting goods and connotatively as a person who is closed or stingy. Both mesin and mecoi are used for reducing the amount of garbage that has been wrapped around the life of the nation and the state.

Abstract:
This study investigates the meanings embedded within song lyrics from the Acehnese local band Apache13’s album Bék Panik (translated as ‘Don’t Panic’). The primary aim is to analyze the types of meaning present in these Acehnese songs using a semantic approach. The objectives are to identify and categorize meanings based on six distinct types: conceptual, social, affective, collocative, connotative, and associative. The qualitative analysis of the song lyrics revealed 186 distinct meanings. Conceptual meaning was the predominant type, with a majority of instances, followed by social meaning, affective meaning, collocative meaning, and connotative meaning. Notably, no occurrences of associative meaning were found. The prevalence of conceptual meaning in the lyrics suggests a focus on social criticism, conditions, and personal narratives within Apache13’s songs. Conversely, the limited use of connotative meaning aligns with a preference for direct and explicit expression among Acehnese youth, reflecting contemporary cultural norms. This study contributes to understanding the nuanced meanings conveyed through contemporary Acehnese music, reflecting generational differences in expressive language use.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problems of actualization of phraseological units in the context of the French youth press. Due to the development of the connotative component of the meaning, phraseological units, as expressive means of the language, are often used in the process of communication to influence the addressee. The phraseological units with positive or negative estimation, expressing emotionally-evaluative attitude of the speaker towards the subject, influence the creation of the pragmatic direction of the utterance. Effected by the context, some changes take place within the structure of phraseological meaning. As the result the pragmatic direction of the text is increased. When a cliché is included into the context, the virtual (pragmatic) meaning is substituted by the actual (syntagmatic) meaning. Here, two variants of interaction of these meanings are possible. In the first case, the paradigmatic meaning and the syntagmatic meaning can coincide (thus, the phraseological unit is presented in its casual meaning.) In the latter case, the meaning of the cliché can be transformed under the influence of the context. It often leads to the divergence between paradigmatic and syntagmatic meanings. Thus, connotative-pragmatic characteristics of any phraseological unit can be defined by the context and it leads to : a) a cliché, losing its situational-evaluative feature (influenced by the context, the situational feature disappears and the cliché gets a positive or negative evaluation); b) the transition of the cliché to the "oppositely charged" field (phraseological units with negative connotation get positive connotation and vice versa); c) the intensification of phraseological meaning. The analyzed examples, proving the influence of the context on phraseological meaning, were taken from various French youth journals. Abstract:
The industrial revolution had brought negative impact on society in England. The first is economic inequality and the second is the moral damage of society. The bad impact is described by William Blake in his poem entitled London. This study aims to find the description through the meaning of denotation and connotation. The poem was written in the era of romance. In this period, literary works were dominated by elements such as imagination, freedom of expression, and idealism. The research method is descriptive qualitative. This study uses a semantic approach, especially the meaning of denotation and connotation as well as the theory of English literature and culture. Based on the results of data analysis, five words with denotative and connotative meanings are found. Those words are chartered, manacles, blackning church, harlots and blasts. The connotative meanings of these five words are used to describe the economic inequality and the moral damage of society as a result of the industrial revolution. Roads and rivers are controlled by factories, freedom of speech is shackled, God's voice is no longer heard, women experience moral decadence and people live terrible fear because of the high crime rate.

Abstract:
This article reveals the cognitive specifics of demonstrating linguistic unit semantic meaning during foreign language studies. The meaning germinates in the mind based on somatic experience. The meaning of lexical units can be shown using material association, illustration, translation, definition, context, and augmented/virtual/mixed reality. The cognitive specifics are characterized by the reproduction of knowledge, the ascription of direct meaning to a new foreign word, the primacy of denotative meaning over connotative one, the interconnectedness of denotative and connotative meanings, the knowledge of both denotative and connotative meanings for actual discourse, the use of tropes, the modes and code of meaning presentation, direct and vicarious acquisition of meaning, the performance/ observation/ imagination/ naming actions aloud or to oneself, combinatoriality in the simplest way, the number of exposures, form presentation manner, the link of phonological/ syntactic/ conceptual domains, interaction, recursion, experience, context, body-based reasoning, gestalt perception, the domination of image over meaningfulness and the usefulness of a word. Semantization is divided into stages: demonstration, extraction, reproduction, anchoring and maturation.

Abstract:
The aims of this research are to identify and analyze the meaning of verbal and visual signs found in Revlon cosmetic advertisements. Data of this research are advertisements downloaded from the internet at www.google.com. The theory of semiotics by Saussure (cited in Chandler 2007) was used to analyze verbal and visual signs through signifier and signified, while the theory of semiotics by Barthes (1977) was used to describe the meaning of verbal and visual signs, both denotative and connotative meanings. The theory of the meaning of color also supports this analysis by Cerrato (2012) which is applied to analyze color choices in advertisements. The data were analyzed by descriptive qualitative method and the results of this study showed that there were six verbal signs and six visual signs in two Revlon cosmetic advertisements. These verbal and visual signs have denotative and connotative meanings, where denotative meaning focuses on conveying information related to the advertised product and connotative meaning focuses on conveying other meanings and hidden messages from advertisements to be conveyed to customers, especially women.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the refinement of the methodological approach to the study of the phenomenon of connotation in the Russian language. There is the definition of the term «connotation», the structural elements of the connotative meaning of the word are since despite the large number of works on this topic, these issues still remain open. It is stated that connotative meanings are inherent in common words with a specific subject meaning, while there are different types of connotations. It is shown that connotative meanings are inherent in common words with a specific subject meaning, which makes it necessary to expand the boundaries of dictionary entries in explanatory dictionaries by supplementing them with figurative meanings of words. Special attention is paid to the species diversity of connotations in words with a specific subject meaning In this regard, it is advisable to study the connotative meanings of words with a specific subject meaning in the context of lexical and semantic groups. On the example of the lexical-semantic group of zoonyms, it is shown that this approach is consistent with the principles of the systematic approach, the results of the study have a sufficient degree of generality and allow us to identify certain patterns.
