Abstract:
The thesis entitled "The Czechoslovak Hussite religious community in Prague's Vinohrady in years 1942-1961" deals with the development of the Vinohrady's religious community within the wider historical development of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. The introductory part of the thesis deals with the historical preconditions of the birth of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. Besides the Enlightenment it was particularly a reformist movement of the Catholic clergy in the 19th century, closely connected to Catholic modernism, which was a revivalist movement within the Roman Catholic Church at the turn of 19th and 20th century. The impact of World War I and the break-up of the Austro-Hungarian empire mustn't be omitted, as well as the influx of democracy, humanism and, finally, the turbulent atmosphere at the time of the establishment of the new independent Czechoslovak Republic. The second part of the thesis is focused on the founding of the Czechoslovak Hussite religious community in the Vinohrady district of Prague, its development from the establishment of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church to its recognition by the Czechoslovak Republic. Then follows a general overview of the first twenty years of its existence, at the time of the so-called "First Republic" and at the time of protectorate, with the...

Abstract:
This master´s thesis informs about community of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in České Budějovice in the years 1920-1948. The thesis highlights the membership of this church and how it grew in the early 1920?s, it also focuses on the establishment of the house called Husův sbor, on communities existing within the church, and on the reflections of other townspeople on this church. There are three main sources for this thesis: the documents of a private archive of this church in České Budějovice, the documents belonging to the State District Archive in České Budějovice and the documents accessible on the webpage of the State Regional Archive in Třeboň. Additionally, regional newspapers from that time were used. The aim of this thesis is to study the history of this second largest denomination in České Budějovice, which appears to be rather neglected in the Czech scholarly literature. The author believes that the thesis could contribute to a better understanding of this church and of the history of České Budějovice.

10 Abstract The Development of Funeral Practices in the Context of the Evolution of Ideological framework of the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church. Author: Mgr. Richard Ferčík Our work resulted in finding that since the very beginning of its existence, the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church approached the question of funeral rituals as a practical, pastoral question, not academic and theoretical. The Czechoslovak Church became a pioneer and promoter of cremation and operator of the most extensive network of columbaries in Czechoslovakia. The major moment of Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church particulars was the shift from the mechanical-magical concept of funeral in popular Catholicism, by which it tried to confront with a purified and understandable ritual based on the gospel and the desire to enculturate the gospel and translate it into a "live" language. Judging by the theological view of death and funeral, the basis from which it stemmed is quite clear - catholic modernism and liberal democratic thinking. In the first generation of Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church theologians we could observe significant "scholastic" fundament. Theological consideration was never priority in these matters, but the church only dealt with it when solving complex tasks. It was not until the middle of 1940s, when the Copernical Revolution...

Abstract:
This diploma thesis deals with the interpretation of the 2nd commandment, known as "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image" (KJV), respectively Ex 20.4 in the concept of theology of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, represented mainly by the concept of Zdeněk Trtík, the main author of the official catechism of the Church. Trtík uses as a template for his interpretation a translation of the Kralice Bible, which seeks the most faithful translation of the original Hebrew meaning and which is in the conception of the second commandment in the line of the most important historical translations of the Bible, for example of the Vulgate. Most of these translations also correspond to their interpretations, which do not speak of prohibition on depiction of God. Trtík's interpretation, however, is clearly based on an interpretative tradition, oriented rather on the Zürich Bible, which emphasizes the non- depiction of God as an interpretation of the 2nd commandment. Trtík, however, transforms this tradition in his own distinctive way. Because these two main interpretative lines are somewhat remote from each other, I have tried to identify the specific reasons that could lead to Trtík's preference of one of the traditions, and at the same time to ascertain the specific or inspiration sources that Trtík could use...

Abstract:
Miroslav Volf's theology of embrace in the context of CHC theology focusing on the question of eschatology leading to Christian engaged life Filip Sedlák Abstract At the turn of the 19th and 20th century theology has reevaluated its basis so that eschatology regained its position of this basis. The view, which was kept only by the outsiders in the period of the Enlightment, has become a generally accepted one. The intensity of this shift changed in a variety of ways but it cannot certainly be said that it was overcome or replaced by a new wave until now. The importace of the eschatological viewpoint in contemporary theology has affected to a great extent also the theology of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church (CHC). However, the importace of eschatology in the CHC theology does not stem from the mentioned shift only, but has its historical roots in the Czech Reformation from which the subject of eschatology is inseparable, as well as in its understanding eschatology as an impulse to practical action perceived as preparing the ways for the Lord's coming which can eventually turn to the revolutionary dimension. The continuity with the Czech Reformation was declared soon after the foundation of the new church using the slogan: "Completing the Czech religious reformation." It is undoubtedly clear from many...

Abstract:
Presented work has in its first part tried to evaluate both textual and theological development of the liturgy in the Czechoslovak (Hussite) church. It has focused on Farsky's translation of the Roman Mass from 1919, first liturgical reforms of the young church, liturgical diversification and unifiction in newly conceived liturgy by Karel Farsky in 1923. The work further follows development of such liturgy, especially its revision in 1939 and attempts of liturgical renewal in seventies and eighties of the twentieth century. The final conclusion of the thesis resides in stating that revision was crucial for blurring certain parts of Farsky's liturgy. It was not conciliated with Učení, official doctrinal document of the Church, and also didn't stay in line with its origin. The main part of the work is focused on analysis of singular parts of Second Liturgy s it was adopted by Assembly in 1991. We attempt to compare this liturgy with earlier versions as mentioned above. This thesis particularly states, that recent version of the Second Liturgy presents two parts of the liturgy of the Word, when the first reading is sharply distinguished from the rest. Furthermore, Opening antiphon (Introit) and Communium antiphon (Communio) are misleadingly placed. In fact, only Offertory antiphon (Offertorium) is located...

The main part of the thesis focuses on the formation and the development of the church in Nesvačily from 1922, when the first services under the Czechoslovak Hussite Church were held there, until present day. To write the thesis the following materials were used: several scientific publications, a chronicle of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in Benešov, a memorial book of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in Nesvačily, materials from state, church and private archives, interviews with four members of the Nesvačily church community and two representatives of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. Using individual confessions of narrators it is possible to not only verify and reconstruct the course of historical events, but also discover new facts and find out more about the life of the Church during the First Republic period, communist rule and the present time. Abstract:
This thesis is devoted to the topic catechetical work with children in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. After presenting into context depicts the subject from two point sof wiew. The first part is devoted to theoretical catechetics, which describes how the catechesis of children theoretically takes place. The sekond part shows you how it really takes place in Hradec Kralove diocese of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. These two parts are equally divided into three sections. By comparing these sections it is concluded that in practice the fundamental katechetice coincides with the theory. In a formal katechetics, basic points also coincide, but practice may inspire theory rather than vice verse. The material part is of the biggest contradictions, especially in materials that Czechoslovak Hussite Church does (not) offer. Mismatch in this material part of catechetics is essential, and unless a consensus is reached again, the problems that the practice faces, cannot be solved.

Abstract:
Abstarakt - English This thesis analyses current state of churches financing. Following implementation of the Act of Property Settlement with churches and religious societies, the churches receive state contribution intended for churches' service reduced by 5 per cent from the original compensation amount every year since 2016. The contribution shall be paid out till final termination in 2027. Moreover, according to the Act, churches receive financial compensation for thirty years since 2013. This thesis asks following question: Could the churches be able (after thirty years) to finance their services from the state financial compensation only which they would regularly invest during the thirty years and from which only salaries should be paid in the anticipated level of 2013 valorized since 2019 by supposed inflation. The state financial compensation is supposed to be valorized by the same inflation. The calculations resulted in finding that only the Roman-Catholic Church would prove to be succesfull under given conditions. Due to the fact that churches do not invest the whole state contribution/subsidy excluding salaries (which was the necessary pre-requisite) neither the Roman-Catholic Church would succeed. It doesn't mean that the churches will terminate their activities by that time but structure of...

Abstract:
Manželství z křesťanského pohledu Marriage from a Christian Perspective Šárka Ambrosio This work is based on the provisions of the biblical creation of man (as male and female) and the concept of marriage in the New and Old Testament. I reflected on the legal status of marriage in modern society and the provision of marriage according to the order of the Roman Catholic Church, the Czechoslovak Hussite Church society and the Christian community center as well as comparing their views on marriage and their wedding ceremonies. This literal work is divided into two parts. The first section is a biblical description of marriage from the old and new testament and its perspective regarding marriage from these three individual churches. The second section describes ten moral values of a healthy Christian marriage from my own personal observations and studies from the Bible. This chapter may be an inspiration to many people and to their marriages. The various questions about marriage are answered in the Bible. Every marriage has the chance to resolve its own issues for a healthy and satisfying relationship. The aim of this work was not only to describe marriage from the three different Churches, but also to show people that if two individuals share a common faith and have core values, the greater chance they...

Abstract:
This thesis provides a view into magnitude of influence of patriotic sentiment in the time period following World War I and its synergy with charismatic personalities of Rakovník such as Josef Kopecký and first patriarch Karel Farský that lead to creation of CČHS religious community in Rakovník. Thanks to these people, it was possible to spread the idea of a new church to neighbouring villages and to overcome the hesitance of the very first priests, who had to convert from the Catholic Church. These facts are apparent from sources relevant to this topic. Information sources presented in this thesis combined with academic literature bring forth realistic picture pertaining the given time period. Work on this thesis has provided me with large number of ideas for future material and spiritual renewal of this community. It is also important to attain a deeper understanding of our history and our roots and to make this information available to people whose ancestors formed this community. After all, more than three quarters of population of Rakovník took part in religious community in 1925. Therefore, it is fair to say that history of the religious community is that of Rakovník in this time period. It is our obligation to involve the public, namely the young, to activities of the church and to continue building...

Abstract:
This dissertation rediscovers the great impact of patriotic sentiment in the period after the World war I (and after World war II) which, along with charismatic personae of Antonin Koula and the first patriarch Karel Farský, had fundamental significance for the foundation of the great Religious community of Czechoslovak Hussite Church in Tman. Thanks to the vicar Antonín Koula the Church has expanded to surrounding towns and villages. This is apparent from the annals from which I have drawn most information. Analyzing these sources (Tman annals, Catholic annals, Czechoslovak Hussite Church annals), along with academic literature one may form an objective idea of the times studied. Partial overcoming of conflicts between Catholic and Czechoslovak Church, by means of state interference, led to the incentive to build new buildings of new architecture type typical for Czechoslovak Hussite Church. Work on this dissertation has given me many incentives for the future renovation of this community. The next output should be a deeper analysis of history and making this information more accessible to people whose ancestors built the local community. At the moment nonreligious aspects are more acceptable and interesting. Next task is to engage the public, especially children, in the church activities...

RESUMÉ The purpose of this thesis was to outline the current state of catechesis in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and basic regularities of the andragogic discipline as the science of adult education. We put these findings in the context of adult life, which is based in the postmodern era and secularized society. The first chapter dealt with the specifics of contemporary life and the needs of the post-modern man living in a secularized world. In the second chapter we entered the path of God's Word. We interpret the Word of God in the theology of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and pointed out the personal / personalistics dimension of the relationship between man and God In the third chapter, we introduce catechesis as a theological discipline. We captured its mission and emphasis from theoretical and practical point of view, and we have followed with the fourth chapter and the specific concept of catechesis in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. We focused on its development, legislative basis and especially methods of catechesis. The fifth chapter describes andragogy as a scientific discipline. We were interested in the process of adult education and the elements that enter it. We also attempted to show the process of basic methodological preparation for the educational activity. Abstract:
This work maps the evolution and changes of The Czechoslovak Hussite Church Catechesis from 1920 to 1980. The selected time frame starts with foundations of The Czechoslovak Hussite Church and ends with analysis of the academic life of Rudolf Horsky, the main thought leader of this field. Taking catechism as a theological field, this work focuses mainly on principal and materialistic catechism within specific historical thought streams. In this work, I aim to discover significant points in history that influenced the catechism of CČSH and the thought leaders of this field. In particular, I examine the form, content and purpose of catechisms. Catechisms normally include religious education of a particular Church, thus it is understandable to consider catechisms to be the materialistic basis of catechesis. I study the pedagogical and religious education purpose of catechisms of CČSH based on the content relevant for baptism, confirmation, and influence of cultural-hisotrical context to its content and usage.

Chantry chapels by burghers in Kutná Hora in pre-Hussite period Vojtěch Vaněk This study is based on the social-historical understanding of the role of chantries and of liturgical memory in medieval society, as discussed especially by Otto G. Oexle and Michael Borgolte. Chantries as permanent pious gifts connected the world of the living with the world of the dead, kept the presence of the dead among the living and, simultaneously, contributed to the salvation of their souls through mutual solidarity between the living and the dead. This study also evaluates the insights of the new cultural history, which understands the endowments as symbolic capital in a given society, capital which enabled display of social status and legitimized power through ostentatious demonstration of devotion. Under the House of Luxembourg, Kutná Hora was one of the most populous towns in Bohemia and Moravia as well as one of the biggest centers of mining and processing of silver ore in Europe. 1280's saw the origins of mining there, the first decade of the 14th century saw the city's founding. Kutná Hora was the residence of the central mint in the Czech kingdom and of the royal offices related to the mint and mining. The term "transfer movement" refers to a strong campaign which tried to persuade people to leave the Roman Catholic Church before the census of February 1921 in or der to the emancipation of our nation from the Church would have been expressed. The general principle of the movement was that the Rome had always been our enemy, that the reformation is the very essence of our national identity and that the Catholic Church had been an ally of the Habsburg dynasty. The thesis tries to explore the role of the leading groups of the "transfer movement" (especially Czechoslovak Church, Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and Freethought) and of the press in Mělník as well as the reaction of the local catholic clergy. The core of the work is based mainly on primary sources (both archive and published). It was found that the transfer movement was rather successful. No violent clashes were reported. The aim of this diploma thesis is to expound the reality of the first Czechoslovak Republic through the foreign point of view, more precisely through the Vatican daily newspaper L´Osservatore Romano. Since the reality is immensely complex, individual chapters deal with topics of overall political development´s reflection, the personality of the first Czechoslovak president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and the situation of Catholic Church in the country from the perspective of Vatican press. Due to the influence of reporters´ Catholic orientation, the author used other journals and documents to achieve higher levels of the opinion plurality in the particular questions. For this purpose, he worked in his thesis with other Czech and Italian newspapers, pastoral letters which were written by Czechoslovak bishops, memories of contemporary events´ actors or different interviews and speeches of important political figures at the time. In the analysis, there is an attempt to answer the question of how the Holy See´s official periodical informed of the events in interwar Czechoslovakia.

Abstract:
ThDr. Marketa Langer Praha, 2018 THE THEOLOGICAL LEGACY OF CZECH MODERNISM IN THE LIFE AND WORK OF FRANTIŠEK BÍLEK ABSTRACT This thesis looks at the life and work of the artist Frantisek B lek in relation to the theological legacy of Czech Catholic modernism at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth century over three chapters. Its objective is to answer three questions: Was the artist the mystic he was perceived to be at the time? Can he be termed a modernist? What were his reasons for joining the Czechoslovak Church when it was founded in 1920? The study uses the method of hypotheses which are stated in advance in the questions posed, and then subsequently tested. Another method used is an analysis and comparison of the approach and attitudes of Czech society to the artist during his life. The introductory chapter describes the study's key indicators with a brief description of the issues, and also the form and structure used. Part A looks at the environment during the emergence of modern Europe; in particular the conditions giving rise to the struggle for modernism, the circumstances of the First Vatican Council, the Czech Catholic reform movement and the European modernism movement in relation to the central subject of this thesis, artist Frantisek B lek. Abstract:
After the First World War, the Catholic Church intensified its interest in a world that was becoming ever more secular and began to look for new means of actively and creatively taking part in cultural affairs. Cinematography was one of the areas in which this trend became most apparent. It was shortly after the invention of cinematograph that various ideas and plans regarding how to deal with film began to emerge among Catholics. Consequently, the Pope gave his blessing to community-based initiatives and included them in his plan in the encyclical Vigilanti Cura. This study seeks to familiarise the reader with a multifarious mixture of interesting, and often contradictory, voices and opinions that were heard from Czech Catholics with regard to film. Catholic activities in the field of film are divided into three basic areas: production, classification and distribution, with the first area concerning the effort to make their own Catholic films. This study demonstrates the problems faced in this endeavour by presenting the difficulties in the making of the film Saint Wenceslas and the consequent relationship of Catholics to the completed work. The classification of films from the Catholic point of view was carried out systematically and in a coordinated manner. The study deals with the origins of...

Abstract:
Women in Reformation The position of women developed throughout history. Religious reformation, which took place in the early 16th century in the German speaking countries and hundred years earlier in the Czech Kingdom, was one of the movements which changed radically the position of women in the society. First, the religious leaders beginning with Martin Luther changed the clerical view which saw women as incompetent, incomplete and sinful beings into one of respect to the gender and its specifics and to the biological role played by women - motherhood. As a result, women were respected in the society as wives and mothers; nobody wrote preaching about them being danger to men anymore. But with the attack on the monasteries women were deprived of the only way for higher education and independence offered to them in these institutions. The Czech reformation never fully changed its view on marriage. Celibacy and virginity were still considered better ways to salvation then marriage and especially its consummation. In the end both Utraquists and the Unity of Brethren accepted Luther's view on marriage, especially the marriage of priests, but never fully. They tended to see celibacy as the better although for most people impossible way. But the position of women in these branches of Czech reformation was...

Abstract:
Katechetické aspekty v díle Rudolfa Horského Catechetical Aspects in the Work of Rudolf Horský Bc. Eliška Chottová Rudolf Horský, a theologian, catechist, bishop of the Czechoslovak Church, professor and dean of the Hus Czechoslovak Theological Faculty in Prague left behind, among other things, his works on catechetical themes. These works, which include, for example, How to Work with Children (Handbook for Religious Teachers and Volunteer Lay Preachers), How to Work with Youth, and A Child in the Living Church, can still be beneficial for working in the church today, especially in religious education of children and youth. The central point of Rudolf Horský's catechetical activities were the Sunday Schools and the Youth Union, that is the institutions aimed at religious education for children and youth. Horský, of course, emphasized the methods that should be used not only in religious teaching, which is also related to the character of the preacher, or a religious educator, i.e. a teacher, who should be properly educated not only in the given issue, but also in the child's soul, in order for the teaching to be as effective as possible. 1
