Information systems often hold data of considerable value. Their continuing development or maintenance will often necessitate evolution of the system and migration of the data from one version to the next: a process that may be expensive, time-consuming, and prone to error. That such a process remains a source of challenges, is recognized by both academia and industry. In current practice, data migration is often considered only in the later stages of development, leaving critical data to be transformed and loaded by hand-written scripts, long after the design process has been completed. This work proposes a multivariate logit model which models the influence of explanatory variables on continuous compositional response variables. This multivariate logit model generalizes an elegant method that was suggested previously by Wedderburn (1974) for the analysis of leaf blotch data in the special case of J = 2, leading to our naming this new approach as the generalized Wedderburn method. In contrast to the logratio modelling approach devised by Aitchison (1982, J. Roy Stat. Soc. B.), the multivariate logit model used under the generalized Wedderburn approach models the expectation o

The other is a semiparametric model where a latent covariate is incorporated in a mixed effects model. Abstract:
We define a subclass of dynamic linear models with unknown hyperparameters called d-inverse-gamma models. We then approximate the marginal p.d.f.s of the hyperparameter and the state vector by the data augmentation algorithm of Tanner/Wong. We prove that the regularity conditions for convergence hold. A sampling based scheme for practical implementation is discussed. Finally, we illustrate how to obtain an iterative importance sampling estimate of the model likelihood. Abstract:
Doctor of Philosophy
Department of Statistics
Juan Du
It is common to assume the spatial or spatio-temporal data are realizations of underlying random elds or stochastic processes. E ective approaches to modelling of the underlying autocorrelation structure of the same random eld and the association among multiple processes are of great demand in many areas including atmospheric sciences, meteorology and agriculture. To this end, this dissertation studies methods and application of the spatial modeling of large-scale dependence structure and spatio-temporal regression modelling

Dostaler, Marc. "Multi-level random data based correlator model." Thesis, University of Ottawa (Canada), 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/26893.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis proposes to develop a virtual prototyping environment (VPE) allowing the study of multi-level random data processing. This VPE allows to experimentally study the effect of different quantization levels and dither signal parameters on the performance of generalized random data correlator architectures.
