Abstract:
Childhood injury epidemiologists and injury control researchers commonly use a forty-year-old epidemiologic agent-host-environment model to explain injuries and have not considered the value of placing childhood injuries in the context of general theories of human development. The psychosocial stages elucidated by Erik H. Erikson may be a useful heuristic approach for childhood injury investigators to consider. Examples of common childhood injuries during the first four psychosocial stages, trust vs. mistrust, autonomy vs. shame and doubt, initiative vs. guilt and industry vs inferiority are presented to illustrate how Erikson's theory may be of value in understanding and controlling the prevalence of childhood injuries in the United States.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTIn the present paper, Erik H. Erikson's theory of psycho-social development is analysed, including a new, ninth stage proposed by his wife, Joan M. Erikson. However, a new understanding of the ninth stage is proposed, in which integrity versus despair is still the crisis of the last stage of life regardless of the addition of the ninth stage. The crisis of stage eight takes place on the continuum between involvement versus resignation. The term ‘involvement’ is understood as the choice of one's own way of life in the world, in view of personal development oriented towards the realisation of universal values, in accordance with the ethical dimension of social ethos, and with a sense of acceptance of the changes that are the result of the human ageing process. ‘Resignation’, in turn, is understood as the second pole dynamising the conflict of stage eight, which manifests itself in the fact that no new activities are undertaken or old ones continued by an individual, out of the conviction that it is senseless to undertake any activities for his or her own development. There is, however, strength that can be engendered by the struggle of older people between involvement and resignation, namely courage. In the acquisition of courage, older people should be supported by geragogy of courage. Society needs the courage of older people and their involvement in the ethical preservation of the world.

Abstract:
The article examines the phenomenon of identity in the view of E. Erickson, through the prism of sociology, social psychology and philosophy. The types of identity proposed by Erickson are revealed through their content characteristics and social role. In the context of the theory of the identity crisis, the author proposes for understanding the factors of influence on the formation of a personality in social space. Identification is understood as a process of continuous comparison of themselves by the subjects of social reality (individual, social group, large human community) with other subjects. Social identity is presented by the author as an open process that continues in the context of a specific socio-cultural space. Through the prism of a mental approach to understanding the problems of interaction between society and a person, the epistemological possibilities and content boundaries of Erich H. Erickson's sociology in understanding the phenomenon of identity as a socially individual phenomenon are determined.

Abstract:
In the field of care for aging persons, it is commonly understood that personality changes occur in dementia patients. It is reported to be a consistent part of the clinical syndrome and to occur early in the disease. The aim of this study was to investigate if strengths and weaknesses, described by E. H. and J. M. Erikson as basic qualities in the person, could be interpreted in severely demented patients during a caring activity, and if a difference in these qualities could be seen after staff completed a training program in “integrity promoting care.” The morning care of five patients was video-recorded and a phenomenological-hermeneutic analysis of the patient's and staff's interaction was conducted. The findings indicate that the complex qualities of someone's personality are more preserved than could be expected considering the cognitive handicap. It seems, however, that demented patients need a special, supportive environment for their full mental potential to be realized. It is reasonable to assume that, if the staff are given knowledge of how to create a positive climate for the demented patients and the opportunity to implement it, the patients will show a rich pattern of mental reactions in spite of their dementia.

Abstract:
Abstract The article reveals the act of upbringing as a pedagogical tool in pupils’ development. Purposeful guidance of development in the pedagogical process is directed towards the formation of a humane personality. The formation of free consciousness, independence and responsibility of the growing personality in the action represents its core. The article presents the procedure structural model of the action. Its essence is the interaction of the objective - the subject, means and product of the action - and the subjective - needs, the aim, knowledge, skills, self-experience and action components. The cooperation model that is important means of enriching the mutual experience among both the peers and the adults is developed on the basis of this model. The action theory analyzed in the article can facilitate a more purposeful organization of the pedagogical process in school and higher education institution. The procedure structural approach of the action can be applied by the academic staff, students, teachers and pupils in different types of the action. The phenomena analyzed in the article and the presented models are based on the pedagogical (H. Gudjons, M. Klarin, A. Špona) and psychological (A, Leontyev, Ļ. Vygotsky, E. Erikson) theories applying the categories of pedagogy and psychology.

Abstract:
The purpose of the thesis was to investigate if integrity promoting care improves functions in demented patients over time. The Erikson (1982) theory of ”eight stages of man” was used as a basis for training of staff in a three-month intervention study (I-VI) at a nursing home ward. A collective living unit where staff had had support in the performance of the delivery of care was also evaluated and compared with a nursing home in a long-term study (VII). Patients, relatives, staff, and the environments were investigated. Cerebrospinal fluid concentrations of somatostatin increased, and reduction of distractability, anxiety and confusion was seen in the intervention group (I) in contrast to controls. In the collective living group (VII) EEG activities indicated a reduction of supposed dementia induced changes. Better motor and social ability, some improved intellectual ability, more alertness and reduced signs of depression were seen (I, II, VII). Patients expressed more autonomy (IV, VII) and initiatives (II-VII) and showed a lot of competence (V) in conversations. Five patients (V) showed patterns of behaviour which seemed to reflect life-long characteristics in spite of their severe dementia. The improvement in the patients' functions can be attributed to the physical environment and the integrity promoting care, since the medical treatment of the patients remained unchanged. In the thesis medical, psychological, and nursing sciences were connected in a complementary process. The results were congruent, and indicate that patients in the care of staff who had had training and support, declined less than controls.

The aim of his paper is to analyze Martin Luther s life, from the psychoanalytic view-point, by studying Erik Erikson s book Young Man Luther , A Study in Psychoanalysis and History. It is a very challenging bibliographic research, due to the amount of material produced up to now on Luther s life. A psycho-biography that aspires developing a profound and comprehensive study of a person whose magnitude of references is so vast is not an easy task. The first chapter s goal is to set up historical-scientific approach of the two protagonists. An exposition of Martin Luther s personal life is detailed firstly, beginning with his parents, reaching his individuality and his relationships with his wife and children. After that, a section will also be dedicated to Erik Erikson s life and thoughts, since he is taken as the point of theoretical reference to this piece of work. The second chapter consists in A Critical Dialogue With Erikson s Theory About Luther, elaborating a critical analysis of Erikson s book, Young Man Luther. This appreciation will be made on basis of the author of this paper s own thoughts, of ideas expressed by Luther himself, and of what other biographers have exhaustively spoken and written about his life. Finally, a critical appreciation and particular conclusions about the main characters will be expressed.

Abstract:
We define Γ(E), a subset of C³, related to the structured singular value μ of 2x2 matrices. μ is used to analyse performance and robustness of linear feedback systems in control engineering. We find a characterisation for the elements of Γ(E) and establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an analytic function from the unit disc into Γ(E) satisfying an arbitrary finite number of interpolation conditions. We prove a Schwarz Lemma for Γ(E) when one of the points in Γ(E) is (0,0,0), then we show that in this case, the Carathéodory and Kobayashi distances between the two points in Γ(E) coincide. We also give a characterisation of the interior, the topological boundary and the distinguished boundary of Γ(E), then we define Γ(E)-inner functions and show that if there exists an analytic function from the unit disc into Γ(E) that satisfies the interpolating conditions, then there is a rational Γ(E)-inner function that interpolates.

Anderson, Lawrence. "The Relationship Between Marcia's Ego Identity Status Paradigm and Erikson's Psychosocial Theory." DigitalCommons@USU, 1993. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2441.

Full text
Abstract:
While Erikson's psychosocial theory continues to dominate theoretical explanations of adolescent identity development. Marcia's ego identity status paradigm has become the primary basis to empirically measure such notions. Though Marcia's paradigm has its roots in psychosocial theory. questions have surfaced regarding the communality of Marcia's and Erikson's notions on identity. Issues of scope. connectedness. definition. terminology. and measurement have marked a potential divergence among the two approaches-views which until recently seemed almost unified. This study addressed the relationship between Erikson's psychosocial theory and Marcia's ego identity status paradigm. By administering identity and psychosocial stage-specific measures to a sample of college-age adolescents. an assessment of the empirical relationship between the two theories has been established. A general pattern was found that the highest levels of psychosocial trust. autonomy. initiative. and industry were reported by the achieved respondents, followed by the foreclosed, moratorium, and diffused respondents, respectively. Discriminant analysis also identified specific psychosocial differences between statuses. The achieved respondents reported higher levels of trust. autonomy, initiative. and industry than moratoriums: significantly higher levels of autonomy and industry than the foreclosed: and significantly higher levels of trust and initiative. and significantly lower levels of guilt when compared to diffused respondents. Moratoriums reported significantly higher levels of emotional autonomy and significantly lower levels of trust and initiative than foreclosed respondents. Moratoriums did report significantly higher initiative and lower guilt than the diffused. Foreclosed respondents reported significantly higher initiative and lower autonomy than diffused persons. These results provide significant-albeit initial----quantitative evidence that Marcia's ego identity status paradigm corresponds both specifically and broadly to Erikson's theory of identity development.
