Abstract:
Life insurance is a very important segment of the economy of most countries as demonstrated by the investments, premium revenue and numbers employed. Hence, it is paramount to determine accurately how well life insurance companies (LICs) perform and how viable they are for the benefit of both other industries and national economies.Three papers that investigate LIC efficiency directly analyze how efficiency affects LIC profits. One critical feature is that they show that the inefficiency of LICs can greatly affect their (financial) outcome and ultimately their survivorship. Thus, said research clearly indicates that life insurer efficiency is a crucial area to investigate and assess and that it could greatly enhance the ability to properly monitor and inspect the life insurers. This article co-ordinates information regarding life insurance efficiency studies to help researchers learn which approaches, methods and output/input proxies to use. While some papers do so for some of the aspects that are important and necessary for life insurance efficiency studies, this is the first to deal with said aspects together. More specifically, this paper especially considers and evaluates the different methods and output proxies used in life insurance efficiency studies, as they seem to be the elements where the most disagreement exists between researchers. In addition, this article is unique in examining how input (proxy) prices are used in life insurance efficiency studies.

Abstract:
AbstractWe study how ownership structure and management objectives interact in determining the company size without assuming information constraints or any explicit costs of management. In symmetric agent economies, the optimal company size balances the returns to scale of the production function and the returns to collaboration efficiency. For a general class of payoff functions, we characterize the optimal company size, and we compare the optimal company size across different managerial objectives. We demonstrate the restrictiveness of common assumptions on effort aggregation (e.g., constant elasticity of effort substitution), and we show that common intuition (e.g., that corporate companies are more efficient and therefore will be larger than equal-share partnerships) might not hold in general.

Abstract:
AbstractFish as food has been widely used, and as its consumption is increasing, the efficiency of fish production companies needs to be increased as well. Fish production may consist of many processes, depending on the type of fish products they produce. Based on this, the increase in the efficiency of the whole company could be expensive, especially for small size companies, whose revenues per year are rather small. Therefore, to evaluate and understand which part of the company is the least efficient and needs to be improved first to have the highest increase in the efficiency of the company, the decision making method needs to be used for the evaluation. In this research, the method MULTIMOORA was chosen to evaluate the specific company’s production efficiency. The results have shown that fish preliminary processing is the least efficient process for the chosen case study. Recommendations for improvement the efficiency of the least efficient stage have been developed, therefore improving the efficiency for the whole company.

Abstract:
This paper covers the question if and how incentive schemes work evaluated by their impact on company performance (market capitalization and profit before tax). Based on a unique data set for German executive directors of DAX companies it can be proved that neither short (STI) nor long term incentives (LTI) plans necessarily support the company success. It rather depends on the efficiency of each plan, i. e. on its design. Special attention has to be paid on target setting. Short term focused objectives often miss their targets, whereas long term oriented objectives significantly support the company success. To solve the prisoner’s dilemma between employers and employees by a quasi-endless game, additional measures may be helpful, such as share ownership guidelines.

Abstract:
The difference between market value and book value of a company is attributed to Intellectual Capital (IC). This difference is as an Indicator to recognize the efficiency or inefficiency of a company. Therefore, the effective use of IC is one of the most important factors on company efficiency. IC is a group of knowledge assets and one of these knowledge assets is Corporate Social Capital (CSC). CSC is a kind of intangible assets and it is argued that the main dimensions of CSC are relevant to IC. In this paper, CSC is defined as the characteristics of the IC, Corporate Reputation (CR), and Structural Social Capital (SSC). The problems that this study has focused on are (i) absence of known and clear mechanism for assessing the impact of CSC on company efficiency, (ii) applying an indicator to assess the efficiency instead applying a set of indicators, and (iii) disregard of financial soundness as an effective element on company efficiency. Base on the problem of the study, the objectives of this study are (i) to examine the relationship between CSC and company efficiency, (ii) to determine the effects of each one of CSC’s components on company efficiency, and (iii) to examine the interaction effects of variable or variables that have unexpected results on company efficiency. The data were analyzed used by (i) Multiple Regression, (ii) Post Hoc Analysis (PHA), and (iii) Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results showed that (i) CSC has an important influence on company efficiency, (ii) Centrality, Human Capital and Financial Soundness have positive influence on company efficiency, and (iii) Research Intensity and Internal Capital have negative influence on company efficiency. Lastly, Financial Soundness can counteract the negative influences of Research Intensity and Internal Capital on company efficiency. The results of the study suggested that (i) added value of CSC to different companies in the ICT sector showed be recognized (ii) showed a theoretical model for CSC, and (iii) External Capital is substituted by company Centrality in IC. The findings of the study also show the importance of IC and CSC on company efficiency and it is recommended that CSC should be considered as an important element on company efficiency that has influence on financial statements.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to analyze the productive efficiency and the best operational practices in an armaments manufacturer.Design/methodology/approachA longitudinal case study is performed using data envelopment analysis (DEA). Using DEA, an assessment of six years in the company manufacturing process is conducted. The research aims at developing an internal benchmark on three production lines of the company.FindingsThe results show that only one of the three analyzed production lines increased efficiency over time. With this result, the most efficient production line may be used as a reference in relation to the best operational practices of the company. Moreover, it was found that the current indicators to evaluate efficiency are insufficient and may lead to wrong management decisions.Practical implicationsThis research could allow a larger understanding of the factors that really contribute to increased operational efficiency. This is due to internal benchmark assist in the identification of the best practices. The identification of best practices can contribute to enhance the efficiency of inefficient operations without the need for external comparisons.Originality/valueDEA contributes due to its robustness, for the evaluation of productive efficiency. One of the contributions of this study is to identify opportunities for improvement in key components of the operation through targets, internal benchmarking and robust assessment of productive efficiency.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to longitudinally assess the technical efficiency and productivity, considering investment projects and technological change, in a second-generation petrochemical company. Design/methodology/approach The study uses data envelopment analysis (DEA) together with the Malmquist index to measure efficiency during the analysis periods. The working method consists of four main phases, namely development of the conceptual model, construction of the mathematical model, application of model to the case, and analysis of the results. The study utilizes a quantitative approach with descriptive goals seeking to evaluate the impacts of technical changes on the operational efficiency and productivity of the production process. Findings The use of DEA associated with the Malmquist index proved to be viable for analyzing a single company and identifying efficiency improvements, as well as the impacts of the learning process and the implementation of improvement projects. However, the results of the improvement projects and learning process were not representative and had no statistical significance on the actual change in efficiency of the company during the periods analyzed. For the case in question, the learning process and continuous improvement were not observed during all study periods. Practical implications The proposition that the improvement projects and investments implemented increased the efficiency of the company was rejected. Hence, with this work, it was possible to determine that the company unnecessarily invested resources in projects to increase efficiency. Furthermore, the company could have explored more internal resources before making significant investments in increased efficiency. Originality/value As for the value of this research in the theoretical and academic scope, this paper advances knowledge on the application of DEA because it proposes to establish an internal reference benchmarking for comparison. The literature contains few studies that analyze organizations using continuous processes, such as petrochemical processes, in longitudinal studies as a function of time, especially with the use of DEA.

Abstract:
The study examined inventory management and organisational efficiency. The classical inventory management techniques were applied to an organisation’s inventory system. A door sales company in Ilorin, Nigeria that volunteered information on the basis of anonymity was used and relevant data were collected on six types of doors; panel, flush, sliding, folding and as well as manual and electronic garage doors. The company had no scientific inventory management strategy but the EOQ, inventory cycle time and reorder level were computed for the six doors using the average values of the data obtained for 2011-2017. The results show that the company can minimise its total inventory cost by consciously adopting an inventory management policy of ordering 55 panel doors, 41 flush doors, 41 sliding glass doors, 18 folding doors, 18 manual garage doors and 8 electronic garage doors respectively every cycle time of 17, 14, 17, 30, 35 and 34 days respectively or by placing the above orders each time the inventory level of panel doors, flush doors, sliding glass doors, folding doors, manual garage doors and electronic garage doors fall to 32, 24, 24, 5, 3 and 2 respectively and thus minimise the total cost of inventory.

Abstract:
The different interest between employer and employee is potentially causing Industrial Dispute between them. Industrial Disputes is dominated by Termination of Employment (laid off) dispute; one of the reasons is company efficiency. Based on that matter, it needs to be studied regarding its legality, procedure, employees’ rights and the pattern of Industrial Dispute Settlement regarding laid off through company efficiency. Based on these problems, several conclusions can be drawn. Firstly, Termination of Employment must be based on a valid reason under the law. Secondly, Termination of Employment due to company’s efficiency can only be done on the condition that the company permanently closed. Thirdly, in the case of termination of employment for company efficiency, the company must pay attention to the employee’s rights in the form of compensation based on consideration of wages and the employee’s duration of work. Fourthly, the pattern of Industrial Dispute Resolution that can be adopted by the parties is bipartite, tripartite and Industrial Relation Court.

This research aims to observe current inventory management applied by one of the medical equipment distributors specializing in eye health devices, and provide recommendations for an optimal inventory management system to achieve cost efficiency afterward. The method used in this research is quantitative, focusing on processing and analyzing numerical data obtained from the company to calculate safety stock and the number of orders. In addition, ABC classification is also used in data processing to group items based on their value. Items belonging to class A (having a value of 80% for the company) will be used in the data processing. The next step is to conduct forecasting simulations for demand forecasts. The results of the forecast will be used for calculating the safety stock and order quantity. The output from the results of data processing and analysis in this study shows 67 items included in class A, which will then be processed using Minitab software for forecasting. Based on comparing the four forecasting methods, the one with the lowest error value is Trend Analysis. If the company can apply the storage method according to the fixed-time period model calculation, there is a potential savings of US $ 717,133 or 63% of the total overstock

Abstract:
Objective – The telecom industry is one of the optimistic industries that is still growing. In South East Asia, between 2008-2017, the number of subscribers increased 10.07% annually, and revenue for the industry grew 6.08% annually. However, Net Profit Margin, EBITDA, and EBIT value during the same period declined at the time revenue amount was increasing. One of the visible health factors and part of the valuation factor is stock value. Hence the research question of this study is: What is the impact and significance of telecom operators’ efficiency to stock value? Methodology/Technique – In this study, efficiency will be measured and analyzed using Stochastic Frontier Approach (SFA) method. By using same method, the impact of efficiency to stock value will be measured, as well as the significance level. Findings – The results of this research show that from 14 telecom operators observed, TLKM (Indonesia) obtained the highest efficiency score (0.984) whereas StarHub (Malaysia) had the lowest efficiency score (0.405). TLKM (Indonesia) and AIS (Thailand) had a similar efficiency score given the fact that the behaviour of the subscribers is similar and they have the same country characteristic. Novelty – All of the input and output variables have a positive impact on the efficiency parameter except Total Asset which has negative impact on the efficiency score. By using further analysis of the t-Ratio between the variables and efficiency, it can be seen that stock value is impacted by the efficiency parameters but this impact is not significant (t-Ratio 1.35). Eco-Efficiency emerged in the 1990s as a measure of "the efficiency that ecological sources use to meet human needs." As a tool in economic and environmental integration, Eco-efficiency needs to be promoted further so that regulation in government and industrial management can include it as an important instrument. This paper provides several approaches that can help various industries to develop effective eco-efficiency principles. The approach used is to maximize the role of the Steering Committee of the company's internal environment. Utilization of natural resources such as water, forests, mines and energy needs need to be balanced with Eco-Efficiency so that natural exploitation can be well controlled so that sustainable development aspired by the world can be realized.

Abstract:
Rice production in Tabanan regency is now beginning to show its existence. Some of the original rice products in Tabanan Regency are one of the superior products in Bali. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2013, Tabanan district has a total area of 41,611 hectares of paddy with an average yield of 56.16 quintal / ha. To support the production of a company so that it is always stable it is necessary to evaluate the efficiency of the company. With the evaluation of production efficiency, the company can determine the direction of the company's production going forward. The level of efficiency in the company affects several products that are produced. By comparison how many raw materials are processed, operational costs incurred, the amount of labor and time needed to get maximum production results. From the evaluation of the efficiency level of a company, it can be assessed its operational feasibility, considering that several companies have not been able to determine the company's production efficiency. UD. Bayu Sri Dana is one company that does not yet know the detailed efficiency of production because measuring the efficiency of production machinery that has been carried out so far is a simple method. Therefore it is necessary to measure the level of efficiency to find solutions using the DEA method

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the competitive position of the company Inditex in the period 1990-2013 as a case study, identified by academics and professionals as a successful company. The analysis has focussed on the comparison of Inditex with its competitive environment. Design/methodology/approach – The methodology used to achieve the objectives was: data envelopment analysis for the analysis of efficiency and for the second the Tobit regression to determine the factors explaining efficiency. The authors have used additional methodologies such as social networks or cluster analysis. Findings – The individual company analysis reveals that the average efficiency level by years for the period 1990-2013, is relatively high 88.8 percent. The determinants of efficiency have been; the resources of the company in terms of assets whose relationship with is U-shaped curvilinear, where the minimum value (trend change) is produced between years 2002 and 2003. The degree of internationalization of the firm, is positively related to efficiency. As the company increases its expansion, experience and skills, increases efficiency. Finally, the effect of liberalization of textile trade in 2005 had no influence on the efficiency levels. Research limitations/implications – The limitations involving the methodology, in terms of representativeness, possible generalizations and type of secondary information used, can be offset by the ability to provide good vision and establish alternatives for possible studies. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the fast-fashion retail industry literature by emphasizing the importance of the case study.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to explore the use of the data envelopment analysis (DEA), Cobb-Douglas and translog production function methods in estimating contractors’ efficiency. Design/methodology/approach – In this paper, the DEA, translog and Cobb-Douglas methods were used to estimate the technical efficiency of 23 contractors in Hong Kong from 2003 to 2009. For this research, four input and three output variables were identified. Findings – The results suggest that the efficiency scores obtained from the DEA method were significantly different from those obtained from the translog and Cobb-Douglas methods, while the efficiency scores from the translog method were similar to those from the Cobb-Douglas method. The DEA method further reveals that the company had poor utilisation of its resources over the past few years. On the output side, the current ratio was too small, implying that the company suffered from excess current liabilities relative to its current assets. Research limitations/implications – Application of efficiency measurement in the built environment is still in its infancy. The current research, therefore, calls for more research to be undertaken to establish the applied literature base for the construction industry. Practical implications – The DEA method helps the inefficient company explore ways to improve the utilisation of the inputs as well as the process and to maximise the outputs. Originality/value – Knowing the relative performance of contractors helps understand their competitiveness in the construction industry. By estimating their technical efficiency, contractors can improve the conditions for enhancing performance.

Abstract:
This study aims to empirically examine the effect of eco-efficiency and company size on the value of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The data used are secondary data obtained from annual reports and sustainability reports of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2013 to 2016. The number of observations in this study is 80. The instrument used to analyze is Partial Least Square. The novelty in this study is that eco-efficiency is calculated by comparing the amount of net sales to energy consumption, and to measure a company size with a proxy for the number of sales. The results of this study indicate that eco-efficiency has an influence on company value. The direction of influence is negative, meaning that the better the eco-efficiency, the lower the value of the company. Company size does not affect the value of the company, in the sense that the sale value does not cause the value of the company to experience better changes, because the value of the company is more influenced by the assets owned by the company. The limitation of this study is that the amount of energy sources used is difficult to obtain, so the study population is limited to companies listed on the IDX that have a Sustainability Reporting and are included in the Sustainability Disclosure Database from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which is not large. In the future it is expected that companies responsible for the environment implement environmental management accounting with eco-efficiency assessment indicators so as to reduce costs and environmental impacts by making more efficient use of resources so as to increase company value.

It is unquestionable that marketing is an essential promotor of the economy and commerce. With its diverse tools, it can influence consumers and also regulate supply by measuring needs and demands (Bauer-Berács, 1998). Although the roots of marketing go back centuries, it is interesting that the raison d’être of service marketing was disputed even in the 1960s and 1970s. However, by today it has developed into a substantive specialty. In this study, the inquiry service and the implemented marketing tools of a leading Hungarian telecommunications company were studied for four years. This article discusses the technology used at the John W. Turk Jr. Power Plant in Fulton, Ark., to tackle the challenges of raising the pressure and temperature of the steam to new heights. The Turk plant is the first in the United States where the final steam conditions exceed both the critical pressure and a temperature of 1,100°F. Operating as an ultrasupercritical boiler, the Turk plant has the highest net plant efficiency of any solid fuel power plant in the United States. In this plant, Southwestern Electric Power Company tapped Babcock & Wilcox to design, supply, and erect the 600-MW advanced supercritical steam generator. To best optimize efficiency, the design team selected a single reheat cycle with elevated steam pressure and temperature. Babcock & Wilcox engineers also employed computational fluid dynamics modeling to place burners and overfire air ports to make the best use of low-sulfur coal.

Abstract:
Purpose. Since the venture business is a catalyst for structural adjustment and technological renewal of the country’s economic complex, small firms with the support of venture capital effectively create and sell innovations that become the basis of new economy sectors. Effective organization of venture activity requires analysis of the main trends in developing organizational forms of venture business and the creation of venture funds. This article aims to form a coherent system of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of venture projects to manage the energy of venture business and the characteristics of these indicators. Scientists and their features present the analysis of available indicators or systems of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of venture business. Design/methodology/approach. This study used both general scientific methods, empirical and theoretical, in particular, the process of analysis (in the study of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of venture business), synthesis (in the formation of a coherent system of indicatorsfor assessing the effectiveness of venture business), generalization and explanation, classification, and also system (for coordination of the system of hands). Also, unique research methods were used, in particular, formal-logical and comparative forms ofscientific knowledge. Findings. The article’s indicators of evaluating the effectiveness of venture investments in innovative projects have been investigated and analyzed. A critical analysis of methodological approaches to assessing the effectiveness of venture capital has been done. It is proposed to evaluate the effectiveness of venture projects on such indicators as internal rate of return, modified internal rate of return, net present value, payback period, discounted payback period, the profitability of sales, average rate of return, discounted profitability index, and contribution index-adequate assessment of the balance of indicators for assessing the effectiveness of venture investments. Practical implications. The article proposes to evaluate the effectiveness of venture projects on such indicators as internal rate of return, modified internal rate of return, net present value, payback period, discounted payback period, the profitability of sales, average rate of return, discounted profit index and profit income which will contribute to obtaining a comprehensive and adequate assessment of the balance of indicators for assessing the effectiveness of venture investments. The formation of a coherent system of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of venture projects will manage venture business efficiency. The intensification of venture activity in Ukraine requires developing an integrated approach, covering institutional development, legislation, and macroeconomic regulation. The story of venture business will contribute to achieving the most critical state goals: the improvement of the innovation sphere and increasing the competitiveness of the domestic economy by entering world markets. The practical application of methods for assessing investment effectiveness is carried out using indicators NPV, IRR, PP, and others. The formation of a portfolio of innovative projects based on linear programming’s classical problem can not be applied in full. That is why today, it is essential to solving issues related to the development and improvement of methods and models of venture risk analysis, assessing the attractiveness of innovative projects, and forming a creative portfolio by a venture company. The participation of venture investors in the capital ofstartups is attractive for several reasons: the presence of venture funds in shareholders tells partners and potential employees that the audit of the company means that the business is transparent and the funds risked their money in terms of growth prospects; venture capitalists help in management. After all, they have experience supporting and developing similar startups; you can use the fund’s companies’ expertise, for example, in organizing sales or preparing for an IPO. Finally, investor connections open up partnerships with other companies, attracting experienced professionals, such as marketing, commercial, financial, executive director. But experts go only to projects with a clear business structure, and venture funds guarantee its presence. Because venture investors, as mentioned above, have a foundational approach to the companies they finance and are initially focused on leaving the company by selling their stake to a strategic investor, company management, or the stock market, the key to success for them, in our view, is a growth company value.

Abstract:
Distribution channels have an important meaning for achieving company success in the field of marketing so that company management is required to always be responsive and able to adapt to environmental changes. Input and output data processing is done by giving weights to the input and output using the DEA CCR primal model by maximizing the input-oriented-based objective function. The results of processing the efficiency scale show the relative efficiency level of the scale of each DMU in the company. The efficiency scale is obtained through the formulation of the DEA CCR primal model between each DMU input and output. If the DMU gets an input and output efficiency value of less than 100%, then the DMU is said to be relatively inefficient. Meanwhile, if the efficient value is equal to 100%, then the DMU is said to be relatively efficient. Of the 5 distribution cities, Sidoarjo, PaluKendari, Bandung and Lamongan which were analyzed, there were 2 cities that were inefficient or experiencing waste in their input and output variables, so the company needed to reorganize the level of use of inputs and outputs it achieved and utilize them optimally to get output that is optimal. targeted.

Abstract:
The paper presents a Company Maturity Matrix as the possible interaction between two critical variables in management science: “Anti-Fragile” introduced by Nasim Taleb and measurement of cumulative experience as ability to manage company effectiveness and efficiency. The approach is to develop and represent a model as matrix coming from Boston Group Matrix. Both of variables are known and widely discussed, but the “Anti-Fragile” concept after its introduction has been isolated from other approaches, tools and measurements as a single research field. The aim of this research is to develop a simple framework (model) that could help to deeply understand the maturity level of a company, and use this matrix as the tool to develop different aspects of management in the company. On the next step, this theoretical framework can be used in empirical validation, which will lead to the building of a company life-cycle management.

Abstract:
Business intelligence (BI) has been successful in eliminating the traditional decision support systems at Gulf Shores Company (GSC) to improve efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery and eliminate human errors. Such improved organizations are better prepared to respond quickly to threats and opportunities. Artificial intelligence (AI) supports an organization’s BI process by simplifying them and making them more cost-effective so that, under certain conditions, automated decisions and alerts can be used. Introducing AI into GSC processes would also give them the capability of making decisions in real time. GSC could implement the BI/AI combination in complex settings to address a wide range of risks specific to their industry. The case study describes the logic for implementing AI in petroleum industries, based on an intelligent system that helps offshore platforms start up, and explains how it can be applied in other industries such as medical billing.
