Abstract:
This thesis explores the kinds of contributions narratology can make to the study of the Pentateuch Targums. The Pentateuch Targums are early Jewish Aramaic translations of the Hebrew Bible that often include large portions of extra-biblical material. Narratology is a literary critical field of enquiry that identifies certain kinds of literary structures as being important for understanding narratives. The narratological theories of Mieke Bal, Gerard Genette, and Meir Sternberg form the methodological starting points for this project. This thesis explores the conjunction of narratology with th

Where precisely should the study of the Pentateuch start? This study in unison with the insight of the Pentateuch scholar Eckart Otto starts at Deuternonomy. Africa has a long and rich history of Biblical scholarship.A critical discourse of the Pentateuch has been kindled in South-Africa for more than the past decade through ProPent, the project for the study of the Pentateuch. This study is done in the space that was created with the Pentateuch theory that emerged out of this global encounter. Abstract:
The aims of this thesis are to study how the Pentateuch portrays land ownership and to answer some of the theological questions which arise from the study. By considering the Pentateuch as a literary work of art, relevant texts in their finished form are analysed in their contexts. The first Part, examining the stories of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in Gen. 12-50, deals with the idea of land ownership on two levels: (i) Yahweh's promise of the land to each patriarch and statements about a future owning of the land promised. The study of land promise accounts discusses issues such as the identity

Principles of design composition are commonly understood to pertain to geometrical systems for arranging parts in assembling a formal whole. Connection to socio-cultural 'meaning' and relevance arguably occurs primarily via the assumed divinity or universality of these systems. In the contemporary architectural world, where explicitly held beliefs in fundamental, geometrically defined principles or values have dissipated, guiding principles of composition appear to be obsolete. This seems particularly true in relation to work that highlights process - or change, responsiveness, interactivity a

Abstract:
Magnetic flux emergence is the subject of how magnetic fields from the solar interior can rise and expand into the atmosphere to produce active regions. It is the link that joins dynamics in the convection zone with dynamics in the atmosphere. In this thesis, we study many aspects of magnetic flux emergence through mathematical modelling and computer simulations. Our primary aim is to understand the key physical processes that lie behind emergence. The first chapter introduces flux emergence and the theoretical framework, magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), that describes it. In the second chapter, we

We find that?irrespective of details regarding the demand side?a change of industry leadership occurs only if the new (?disruptive?) technology is not too efficient and organizations a

This thesis is concerned with the theory of ontological emergence; a theory that posits a new kind of entity – usually an emergent property – that occurs in complex systems and can explain some system-level behaviour. The theory holds that these emergent entities are dependent on, but novel with respect to, the components of those systems. Such entities have been invoked to explain behaviours as diverse as symmetry breaking in molecular physics to the possibility of personal agency. As a metaphysical theory it is useful wherever there is a lack of understanding about how system-level behaviour

This thesis investigates processes of ecosystem emergence. Ecosystem research has thus far focused on understanding the structure and dynamics of already existing ecosystems. However much less attention has been devoted to the emergence of ecosystems. It provides an immediate visual contact with the Pentateuch stories through a combination of framing the Old Testament figures within an urban perspective which displays both interior and exterior city views. Data was gathered from 391 individuals working in existing self-managed work teams in private and public sectors.
