Abstract:
The overall freedom of an individual or a society is something that exists in differing degrees. By contrast, anyone's particular freedom to engage in this or that mode of conduct is something that exists (or does not exist) in an all-or-nothing manner. Many political philosophers have taken a contrary view, however, and have contended that each particular freedom exists to a greater or lesser extent in proportion to the easiness or difficulty of exercising it. This essay argues that the temptation to view particular freedoms as matters of degree can be overcome when careful attention is paid

Abstract:
Abstract Torsional instabilities in a drive-line which incorporates a Hooke’s joint due to fluctuating angular velocity ratio across the joint are examined. Numerical simulations and bifurcation analysis performed on the full nonlinear equations further demonstrate the existence of parametric, quasi-periodic and chaotic instabilities. Onset of chaotic motion was shown to be characterised by a quasi-periodic route. Predicted instabilities indicate the range of drive shaft speeds to be avoided during the design of a drive-line which employs a Hooke’s joint.

Abstract:
In the present paper, isolated response curves in a nonlinear system consisting of two masses sliding on a horizontal guide are examined. Transverse springs are attached to one mass to provide the nonlinear restoring force, and a harmonic motion of the complete system is imposed by prescribing the displacement of their supports. Numerical simulations are carried out to study the conditions of existence of isolated solutions, their bifurcations, their merging with the main response branch and their basins of attraction. This is achieved using tools including nonlinear normal modes, energy balan

Abstract:
This paper deals with the inverse problem for Lagrangian dynamics for linear multi-degree-of-freedom systems. New results for linearly damped systems are obtained using extensions of results for single-degree-of-freedom systems. First, for a two-degree-of-freedom linear system with linear damping, the conditions for the existence of a Lagrangian are explicitly obtained by solving the Helmholtz conditions. Next, since the Helmholtz conditions are near-impossible to solve for general n-degree-of-freedom systems, a new simple procedure that does not require the use of the Helmholtz conditions and

The article focuses on the «Intellectual Dark Web», an informal group of scholars, publicists, and activists who openly opposed the identity politics, political correctness, and the dominance of leftist ideas in American intellectual life. The author examines the reasons for the emergence of this group, names the main representatives and finds that the existence of «dark intellectuals» is the evidence of important problems in US public discourse. The term «Intellectual Dark Web» was coined by businessman Eric Weinstein to describe those who openly opposed restrictions on freedom of speech by t

Abstract:
The article analyzes Olegario González de Cardedal’s views on journalistic mission, that he interprets as a “ministry”. For him, a journalist is the minister of the word, the creator and the interpreter of events, the spokesperson of human being and the witness of human hope. For the Spanish Catholic theologian and author, the newspaper is both “structure and soul”. He believes that media is something more than an ordinary profitable enterprise and interprets journalism as a “spiritual ministry”. A prerequisite for the true ministry is the hierarchical system of values. In this context, for Go

India has a unique and complex religious history, with faith and spirituality playing an important role in everyday life. Hinduism is the majority religion, and there are many minority religions. India also has a complicated class system and entrenched gender structures. Disability is another important identity. Many of these factors determine people’s experiences of social inclusion or exclusion. This paper explores how these intersecting identities influence the experience of inequality and marginalisation, with a particular focus on people with disabilities from minority religious backgroun

The article deals with the problem of the meaningfulness (essence) of the worldview journalism in the context of the argumentative resources of the work of influentive authors, for which the missionary role of the word is decisive. The search for meaning has been debated for centuries by orators, philosophers, psychologists, writers, sociologists, historians, journalists, and so on. In addition to other factors, a combination of the principles of worldview journalism and conceptual humanitarianism gives effective results. The article talks about the philosophical foundations that characterize the mechanism of internal inducement to action. As an academic, constitutional, and socio-ideological concept, the boundaries of freedom are outlined, which are displayed in the field of modern media space. The term «freedom» is considered as several philosophical concepts that formed the basis of the modern interpretation of this concept. The totality of its meanings is generalized into one that is adapted for the modern system. Parallels are drawn between the interaction of the concept of user freedom with the plane of d
