During the final years of his life, Kohm worked for Appalachian Voices, an environmental group based in Boone, North Carolina, and helped the organization develop a strategy modelled on the Arctic Refuge campaign. Abstract Regular community singing in Danish primary schools has become quite rare, while children’s choirs have become increasingly successful in the context of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Widening disparities in the population’s cultural and social needs make the creation of socially inclusive communities a challenge for Danish public schools. The Danish school choir project Everyone Can Sing, underway since 2018 in a primary school in Albertslund (Copenhagen suburb), is based on the hypothesis that grade 0–3 class choirs have a significant impact on pupils’ ability to bond socially and

Their hearts, minds, and spirits are forever enriched by the many experiences they share. The early conservatories were trade schools. Over a period of about ten years they needed to transform orphans, then thought of as social outcasts, into skilled craftsmen who could earn a productive income and become self-supporting. So they developed practical methods to give boys the skills needed to become professional church organists, court composers, opera singers, orchestral musicians, or choir directors. The chapter surveys the historically most important music masters in Italy and the types of innovative lessons that they developed.

Earlier research shows that singing is practiced, and anticipated to be practiced more often by girls than boys in Western societies and schools. An analysis of interviews with the student Andreas and his music teacher Victor is presented, as they explore co-singing in a music profiled class in elementary school. TBMI differs from simple integration in that this type of teaching emphasizes direct student engagement with technology for introducing, reinforcing, and assessing learning experiences. While teachers’ uses of technology are encouraged, the main idea associated with TBMI is that teachers design experiences during which student engagement with music technologies is essential ; students are learning music by experiencing it from within. This encourages construction of new knowledge through creativity and builds on previous experiences. In this chapter and the next, we will address several questi
