Abstract:
This Master thesis proposes a solution to manage variabilities of software product line applications. The objective of the research is to support software decision makers in handling additional software complexity introduced by product line architectures. In order to fulfill this objective an approach to analyze, visualize, and measure product line specific characteristics of the C/C++ source code are proposed. The approach is validated in an empirical experiment using an open source software system. For that purpose the approach is first implemented into ®1 M-System-NT, an existing software measurement tool developed at Fraunhofer. The target hypothesis of the Institute for Experimental Software engineering research master thesis to perform static analysis of C/C++ source code, measure traditional and product line measures to identify the correlation between measures and indicate the fault proneness.<br>Official Address: Researcher Zeeshan Ahmed, Mechanical Engineering Informatics and TU Virtual Product Development Division (MIVP) Vienna, Austria Permanent Address: Zeeshan Ahmed, Humdered Street Mohala Garhi Shadula Sahib Gujrat, Pakistan

Abstract:
Thesis (M. Tech. (Engineering: Electrical)) -- Central University of technology, Free State, 2013<br>In the industry, automation is used to optimize production, improve product quality and increase profitability. By properly implementing automation systems, the risk of injury to workers can be minimized. Robots are used in many low-level tasks to perform repetitive, undesirable or dangerous work. Robots can perform a task with higher precision and accuracy to lower errors and waste of material. Machine Vision makes use of cameras, lighting and software to do visual inspections that a human would normally do. Machine Vision is useful in application where repeatability, high speed and accuracy are important. This study concentrates on the development of a dedicated robot vision system to automatically place components exiting from a conveyor system onto Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGV). A personal computer (PC) controls the automated system. Software modules were developed to do image processing for the Machine Vision system as well as software to control a Cartesian robot. These modules were integrated to work in a real-time system. The vision system is used to determine the parts‟ position and orientation. The orientation data are used to rotate a gripper and the position data are used by the Cartesian robot to position the gripper over the part. Hardware for the control of the gripper, pneumatics and safety systems were developed. The automated system‟s hardware was integrated by the use of the different communication protocols, namely DeviceNet (Cartesian robot), RS-232 (gripper) and Firewire (camera).

Popa, Emil Horia. "Algorithms for handling arbitrary lineshape distortions in Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Spectroscopic Imaging." Phd thesis, Université Claude Bernard - Lyon I, 2010. http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00716176.

Full text
Abstract:
Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) and Spectroscopic Imaging (MRSI) play an emerging role in clinical assessment, providing in vivo estimation of disease markers while being non-invasive and applicable to a large range of tissues. However, static magnetic field inhomogeneity, as well as eddy currents in the acquisition hardware, cause important distortions in the lineshape of acquired NMR spectra, possibly inducing significant bias in the estimation of metabolite concentrations. In the post-acquisition stage, this is classically handled through the use of pre-processing methods to correct the dataset lineshape, or through the introduction of more complex analytical model functions. This thesis concentrates on handling arbitrary lineshape distortions in the case of quantitation methods that use a metabolite basis-set as prior knowledge. Current approaches are assessed, and a novel approach is proposed, based on adapting the basis-set lineshape to the measured signal.Assuming a common lineshape to all spectral components, a new method is derived and implemented, featuring time domain local regression (LOWESS) filtering. Validation is performed on synthetic signals as well as on in vitro phantom data. Finally, a completely new approach to MRS quantitation is proposed, centred on the use of the compact spectral support of the estimated common lineshape. The new metabolite estimators are tested alone, as well as coupled with the more common residual-sum-of-squares MLE estimator, significantly reducing quantitation bias for high signal-to-noise ratio data.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Purpose - The purpose of this thesis is to identify factors that have an impact on supermarket inventory levels that supply a manufacturing line and investigate how the impact of these factors can be controlled. In order to fulfill the purpose it was broken down into two research questions.   What factors have an impact on supermarket inventory levels supplying a manufacturing line? 2.      How can the impact of these factors be controlled? Method - To answer the research questions a literature study and a case study were conducted. The empirical findings from the case study and the literature study were used to find the answer to the first research question. The identified factors in the first research question were then analysed with the theoretical framework in order to answer the second research question. Different techniques have been used in order to collect necessary data including documentation studies, interviews, observations and basic training in the case company’s procurement system (GILM).   Findings - Total safety lead time, firm time and shortage impact were discovered during the case study. These factors were not to found during the literature study because they were specific parameters that are predetermined in the case company’s procurement system. Internal material handling and supermarket order quantity were factors also found during the case study. The identified factors are divided after which tool or method that can be used to gain control over the factor. Four different tools have been identified as solutions to gain control over the internal material handling. The factors that only have one identified tool as a solution are either case specific or not attentive in the theoretical framework as the other tools.   Implications - The identified factors from the literature study are considered as common factors that can be applied for companies that have a supermarket inventory. If manufacturing companies are facing problems with their supermarket inventory levels they can increase control by investigating the tools and methods presented in this thesis. Contributions - The factors that were identified during the case study have contributed with new discoveries in the field of study, since there is limited research done in this subject regarding supermarket systems.   Research limitations - More case studies could have been performed at similar companies, in order to investigate how generalizable the answers to both research questions are.

Alameri, Abdulla. "Front-line service employees' service recovery performance : a practice theory-based study into customer complaint handling in the Abu Dhabi Police Force." Thesis, Nottingham Trent University, 2018. http://irep.ntu.ac.uk/id/eprint/33838/.

Full text
Abstract:
Research Justification: Since 2011, the United Arab Emirates' federal government launched several programs emphasising high-quality service to customers. Subsequently, all federal and local agencies, including the Abu Dhabi Police, are now required to improve service recovery and customer complaint handling. Moreover, many scholars have focused on the relationship between service recovery and customer satisfaction and on the public's goodwill, trust, compliance, cooperation and commitment in public services. Research Objective: The primary objective of this paper is to explore and determine the effect of various police social structure aspects and managerial action on front-line service employees' service recovery performance. Moreover, the researcher aims to use these findings to complete his review of service recovery and complaint handling with the Abu Dhabi Police from the management, customer and front-line service employees' perspectives. Practice Theory: Based on Chan's (1996) field and habitus framework (which has been used extensively to understand change within police organisations), the researcher adopted the concepts of habitus, field and capital from Bourdieu's practice theory to understand the effect of each factor on front-line service employees' performance in service recovery and complaint-handling procedures. Methodology: The researcher adopted a critical realist research philosophy. The stratified ontology of the critical realism allowed the researcher to explore not only events and experiences but also associated causal mechanisms. In turn, these helped in further understanding service recovery and complaint-handling procedures within the Abu Dhabi Police. A qualitative strategy was adopted, using interviews to the double with practice participants and in-depth interviews with practice observers. Research Design: In this study, interview responses come from both front-line service employees and practice observers working in the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols (DTP) Department within the Abu Dhabi Police. As there are two sets of interviews, the researcher developed an interview guide specifically for each set. The researcher fulfilled the ethical requirements for the Research Ethics Committee at NTU. All interviews with practice participants and practice observers were conducted in Arabic at the interviewees' workplaces. The researcher adopted Atlas.it to help in the thematic analysis of the interview transcripts. Data Analysis: The research findings were derived from 42 interviews: 25 were conducted with participants using interviews to the double and 17 were conducted with practice observers. The analysis of the interview transcripts was completed in three stages. First, the researcher analysed the interviewees' instructions to the double, which was used to identify the experiences and events from the empirical and actual domains, respectively. Second, a thematic analysis of both the interviews to the double and in-depth interviews with the practice observers was performed. This was used to explore and identify the mechanism from the real domain of reality. Third, the researcher used a retroductive backward reasoning from the experiences and events from the empirical and actual domains, respectively, to the causal mechanisms from the real domain. Findings: Based on the literature review and research findings, the researcher identified nine factors affecting front-line service employees' service recovery performance within the Abu Dhabi Police as follows: police cultures, the social structure of the field, leadership style, employee empowerment service strategy, the nature of service, the national culture, multicultural society, and human resource practices. Moreover, the research findings showed that there is an inconsistency in the service recovery and complaint-handling procedures within the DTP, due to the differentiation and of front-line service employees' service recovery performance. The differentiation and inconsistency of front-line service employees' service recovery performance was caused by several of these factors. Based on the research findings, the researcher argues that the adopted combination of transformational and transactional leadership styles by some officers in charge within the DTP would negatively influence customers' satisfaction with service recovery and complaint-handling procedures in the Abu Dhabi Police Force through affecting the public's goodwill, trust, compliance, cooperation and commitment, which are essential to police services. Additionally, the researcher argues that for the service recovery and complaint-handling procedures within the Abu Dhabi Police to change, the change should be aimed at all police sub-cultures (habitus) within the Abu Dhabi Police, and not just at those of the front-line service employees.

Abstract:
The world becomes more integrated and sophisticated, especially in the birth of advanced technologies, which have influenced all life aspects. Automated systems could be considered an example of those aspects, which have been affected by recent changes in today’s life. The competition in the market is putting increasing pressure on different manufacturing organizations to find the best methods that enable them to stay up to date with the latest technologies in the industrial field. One of the most famous dilemmas that exist in this field is designing an efficient and flexible material handling system. This issue draws the attention of both decision-makers in different companies and software developers who put considerable effort into making that desired system real. Inclusive research needs to be performed to obtain such a system, and the most significant part of the research that requires special attention is the applied methodology. The approach to be adapted determines the degree of stability of a particular material handling system to function effectively in the case studied. Several methods are available and could be implemented to design that effective system such as meta-heuristic algorithms, and approaches that depend on simulation software tools. The latter approach, which is the simulation approach, seems to get increasing attention from developers of the industrial system since it plays a vital role in reducing the cost and preserving available resources. Besides, it helps predict future changes and scenarios of the system to be analyzed. In this project, a discrete-event simulation model was built for the proposed layout of the main shop floor owned by a Swedish manufacturing company. The corporation located in the south of Sweden, and it produces a vast range of manufacture of goods. The chosen methodology is a combination of lean, simulation, and optimization approaches. It has been implemented on the proposed layout in which material is handled into production lines by using automated guided vehicles (AGVs) as a means of transportation. The analysis of results shows potential benefits, where the production process became more efficient and organized since the operational cost has been reduced by decreasing the number of required vehicles. Moreover, the simulation approach facilitated testing new ideas and designing improved scenarios without the necessity to change the current state of the factory layout or disturbing the regular activities.

Abstract:

Dolan, Alice Claire. "The fabric of life : linen and life cycle in England, 1678-1810." Thesis, University of Hertfordshire, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2299/17196.

Full text
Abstract:
'The Fabric of Life: Linen and Life Cycle in England, 1678-1810' is structured around the human life cycle to draw out the social and cultural importance of linen for all ranks of society. Human and object life cycles are juxtaposed in the thesis to analyse co-dependent activities and processes rather than focusing on one facet of daily life. For thousands of years flax was a staple fibre, used for textile production in many parts of the globe. Cotton only overtook linen as the most popular textile in England at home and on the body during the nineteenth century. This thesis examines the preceding century to reveal why linen remained a daily necessity in England between 1678 and 1810, a period which encompassed a series of significant changes in the production, trade and use of linen. Linen was ubiquitous as underwear, sheets, table linens and for logistical purposes therefore it provides a unique insight into the early-modern world; a means of understanding the multifaceted experiences of daily life, of integrating understandings of the body, domestic, social, cultural and commercial activities. This thesis is social history through the lens of linen, reading a society through its interactions with a textile.

Abstract:
South African organizations experienced more conflict in the past ten years because of all the changes in the management of labour relations. Employees at lower, middle and upper management levels within organizations are not well informed about the different types of conflict, the functionality and dysfunctionality of conflict, how conflict takes place within the different job-levels and how to manage and resolve it. Dysfunctional conflict can be destructive and it can affect the productivity of the organization. Because of the lack of knowledge regarding conflict within the steel organization and the necessity for it to be handled correctly, it was decided to seize the opportunity to contribute to the existing knowledge of conflict. Objectives of the study The major objectives of this study are as follows: To determine how literature conceptualizes conflict dynamics by examining theory, industrial sociology, organizational behaviour and general management. To determine the following aspects by means of an empirical study: - What the main reasons are for conflict within the steel organization. - How the handling of conflict differs among the middle and lower job levels within the organization. Research study and methodology The research study is divided into a theoretical and an empirical framework. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 outline the theoretical basis. Various aspects of conflict and handling or managing it are discussed in detail. The study employs the conflict theories of Ralph Dahrendorf and Karl Marx as points of departure, as found in chapter 2, in an attempt to provide a framework for the problem statement and to attempt the attainment of the set of objectives. This chapter discusses conflict and analyzes it as a social interaction characterized by force, strife and animosity. It also offers and analysis of Dahrendorf s and Marx's theories to determine their suitability to the study. Chapter 3 discusses conflict within a business context with reference to functional and dysfunctional conflict. different approaches to conflict. types of conflict, different reactions to conflict as well as its different stages. Chapter 4 addresses the course, handling and management of conflict by analyzing the conflict process while it keeps the theories of Marx and Dahrendorf in mind. Chapter 5 analyzes and describes the data and results found by means of empirical research according to specific statistical methods. The empirical study was conducted among the employees of a steel company. A standardised questionnaire and personal interviews were used. Major findings Chapter 6 consists of analysed information about the assembled data. The major findings of the study support the set of research objectives and prove all of them. Major findings include the following: Cooperation, discipline and communication are problem areas within the steel organization. A large number of employees show dissatisfaction about the nature and extent of their work. Some of the employees misuse their authority and this is a major cause of conflict. A total of 95% of the population show that they would like further training in the dynamics of conflict management. Half of the population show that they are unaware of any policies and procedures of conflict management in the steel company. Conclusion In conclusion as found in chapter 6 the study makes a number of recommendations centring on the training of employees to handle conflict and policy-making about conflict-handling and management.<br>Thesis (M.A. (Industrial Sociology))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2006.

Abstract:
Detta kan ha påverkat studiens resultat.<br>Purpose – The purpose of the thesis is to explore potential enhancements for the material flow between the goods receiving and the assembly line. The purpose has been broken down to three research questions: What activities affect the material flow between the goods receiving and the assembly line? How does the activities affect the material flow between the goods receiving and the assembly line? How can the material flow between the goods receiving and the assembly line be more efficient? Method – A pilot study was conducted to define a problem, which the purpose and research questions of the thesis was based on. A review of literature was carried out alongside a case study. Observations, document studies and interviews were the methods of choosing for the collection of data. To establish the theoretical framework a literature review was carried out. A comparison between the findings of the case study and theoretical framework answered the study’s research questions. Findings – The study identified several problems with an immediate impact on the material flow. Non-value adding operations such as material handling and stock locations ties capital and requires resources. To correctly share information and to have a close cooperation between departments is considered as an important factor for the material flow’s efficiency. By using line back principle non-value adding operations can be pushed upstream in the supply chain to enable an implementation of just in sequence. Implications – The studied area consists of already existing theories therefor no additional research has been contributed. However, a new aspect of already existing theory has enlightened the relationship between just in sequence and line back principle. Organizations can use the case study as a basis of discussion for a mapping and improvements of the material flow between the goods receiving and the assembly lines. Limitations – The thesis ability to generalize can be questioned since it consists of only one case company. The material flow was constantly in motion which complicated the collection of data. Therefor the findings of the study can be affected by this.

Wolf, Zanine Nadia. "'Airing dirty linen': the problems of establishing a women's rights organisation in contemporary Swaziland." Master's thesis, University of Cape Town, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/11692.

Abstract:
Bibliography: leaves 80-84.<br>This dissertation is about the power of tradition to influence domestic behavioural norms in Swaziland. I set out to demonstrate that, although the Swaziland Action Group Against Abuse (SWAGAA) has rendered itself indispensable to Swazi women, it still has a long way to go before realising its goal of the empowerment of abused women. This is due, primarily, to the organisation's adherence to international standards of women's human rights which cannot readily be applied in the particular context of Swaziland because they are resisted by those who seek to preserve what is claimed to be the traditional order. SWAGAA's counselling service is based on the premise that if an abused woman can be encouraged to make an informed, independent decision then she will have been empowered to take control of her life, and, ultimately, to free herself of the abuse. I argue that this approach, despite good intentions, is highly unrealistic in the locality of Swaziland. When a woman attempts to confront gender andlor domestic violence using the empowerment approach advocated by SWAGAA, she comes up against a number of entrenched ideological and practical constraints that undermine her power to negotiate. Foremost amongst these is the strong negative responses to any practice of 'airing dirty linen in public', such as consulting SWAGAA, for which a woman may be severely chastised. Women are reprimanded for seeking counsel beyond what are regarded as family boundaries because, they are told, by the police and by those around them, that this is inconsistent with acceptable and normative 'traditional' practice. I argue that the pressure placed upon women to adhere to practices of social organisation which are upheld as traditional, is rooted in a legacy of mistrust of foreign ideologies and practices. The leadership of the country has been, and continues to be engaged in an ongoing struggle to retain some semblance of what it regards as the traditional order. SWAGAA comes up directly against this legacy. Firstly, the women whom they counsel are constrained from making the individualistic decisions that SWAGAA wishes them to make. Secondly, women themselves are so embroiled in a social situation where men act as their advocates that they do not easily relate to the idea of individual empowerment. Yet SWAGAA persists with an approach that tries to undermine everyday normative practices, rather than working within the parameters of those norms. Its radical approach renders SWAGAA's counselling service too ambitious in Swaziland. What I thus advocate is an incremental approach that aims, gradually, to encourage women to empower themselves, given the persistence of the ideological and practical resistance to those attempts.

Software Product Lines (SPL) is an approach to improve software reuse. A PLA provides a global view of the variability's of a SPL, while it embodies the concepts and advantages of the traditional software architecture. Due to its variability's, a PLA is harder to evolve than a conventional software architecture. Exception handling is a well known technique to detect and treat errors in software systems. However, despite its popularity, its design and implementation are constituted of very complex tasks that do not receive the adequate attention from the existing development processes. Separation of concerns is one of the overarching goals of exception handling in order to keep separate normal and exceptional behavior of a software system. In the context of a software product line (SPL); this separation of concerns is also important for designing software variability's related to normal and exceptional behavior, such as the choice of different handlers depending on the set of selected features. The main goal of this work is to present a method to specify and implement the variability of exception handling in SPL components-based. The method MVTE (Variability of Exception Handler Method) is a combination of methods known in the literature (PLUS and UML Components) and models COSMOS* and COSMOS*-VP. To validate the method MVTE, it was studied two empirical studies, and to measure their quality it was used the metrics impact change, coupling between modules and diffusion over concerns<br>Mestrado<br>Ciência da Computação<br>Mestre em Ciência da Computação

Abstract:
Object Constraint Language (OCL) is part of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) specification and can be used to enforce constraints on the attributes or methods of a class. It would greatly help the software developers if such non-executable OCL constraints specified in a UML model could be enforced on the executable code generated from the model. This thesis discusses the concepts, ideas and the approach in transforming a model developed in the Rational Rose software with OCL constraints into Java code shells, complete with fragments of code to detect the run-time violations of the constraints. The implementation and testing of a prototype tool that incorporates these ideas is also discussed.

The large number of global players in the market has led the automotive industry chain to incessantly seek improvements in operations management to increase their results and, based on this fact, this paper presents a proposal for integrating the techniques and approaches of Lean Manufacturing and Theory of Constraints through an action research application, aiming at improving the material supply system of welding cells from a chassis frame assembly line. In the first stage were presented the concepts and possibilities of integration of both theories and, from an initial diagnosis of the supply system, changes were proposed in an evolutionary way, in which improvements based on Lean Manufacturing were implemented on each experiment round, culminating in the implementation of improvements based on the Theory of Constraints, integrating both concepts. The final result confirms the efficiency of the integration of these two approaches as a way to improve processes, which contributed to an 89% decrease of the supply cycle times of the studied target cell. This result is better than the result obtained using only one of the techniques, without the need for investments and / or significant expenses.

Abstract:
From the fourteenth century, diaper napery with small geometric patterns was imported from the Low Countries. Towards 1450, the drawloom was adapted in Flanders to weave white linen damasks with figurative patterns. These were expensive and initially covered the tables of the great. During the seventeenth century, new centres of manufacture in Germany provided cheaper figured table linens which were increasingly bought by the 'middling sort'. Dining was always more than the simple provision of sustenance whether for a king publicly 'to glase his glorie' or a merchant privately 'for love or business'. Dining ceremony which responded to these different purposes and to changing concepts of hospitality and civility, generated the furniture of the dining chamber and in turn the supplies of napery. This thesis examines the changing requirements for table linens using courtesy and household books in conjunction with a data set of some one thousand inventories. The patterns of importation by both English and stranger merchants are drawn from the London port books. Responses to the military situation on the continent and customs rates at home are considered, together with the degree to which a fashionable luxury commodity determined the trading strategies of individual merchants. The distribution of table linen is appraised including the dominant role of London linen drapers. This is followed by an evaluation of its changing ownership and the effect of differential rates of inflation of various household goods upon consumer preferences. The results are set within the context of the discussion of conspicuous consumption both by contemporary commentators such as William Harrison and the modem protagonists in the debate on the 'consumer revolution'. By linking pattern descriptions in inventories with surviving linens, the range of damasks sold in England is delineated and the influence of religious and political attitudes upon subject and design explored.

Abstract:
Road transportation grew by 3.3 % per year over the past ten years which is faster than the economic growth of 2.3 % per year. European Commission plans for an increase of 55 % for road transportation between 2000 and 2020. This growth puts pressure on current trucking industry considering fuel consumption, emissions of green house gases, and traffic congestion.  High demand logistics industry and current pressure creates trends towards flexibility and longer vehicle combinations for efficiency and to reduce the number of engines on roads, challenging the current coupling methods of the trailers.  Primary method called 5th wheel coupling comes from a similar coupling used on 4 wheel horse-drawn carriages of the 19th century which is reliable in terms of attaching truck and trailer but has significant safety, efficiency and comfort issues for driver and the vehicles-people around.  So what if hauling setup could be safer and smarter?

Conventional mechanisms of exception handling can not be used for many reasons. First, error propagation needs considering the contextual changes that often occur in these systems. Second, error recovery and exception handling strategies also frequently need to be selected according to contextual information. Third, the characterization of an exception may depend on the contextual situation of involved devices. Even though there are now several context-oriented middleware systems that provide support for the development of mobile applications, they rarely provide explicit and adequate features for contextsensitive exception handling. This work presents an analysis of existing exception handling mechanisms, which to some extent consider the context-awareness requirements. Besides, it proposes a general model for context-sensitive exception handling and a supporting mechanism implemented using the MoCA (Mobile Collaboration Architecture) infrastructure. MoCA is a publish-subscribe middleware supporting the development of collaborative mobile applications by incorporating explicit services to empower software agents with contextsensitiveness. Finally, this paper reports our experience in implementing contextaware exception handling strategies in some prototype collaborative applications built with the MoCA system.

Abstract:
Master of Science<br>Human Nutrition<br>Delores H. Chambers<br>Understanding how consumers handle poultry can highlight gaps in consumer knowledge and practice of food safety. Quantitative research provides only a partial image, whereas qualitative data is helpful in gaining a complete picture of a shopper's behaviors. The objective of this study was to determine what poultry product microbes could potentially be transferred during purchasing and home storage; using a shop-along observational technique to observe actual shopping, transporting, and storing behavior of consumers with raw poultry products. In 71% (n=97) of the situations observed there was no visible hand sanitizer or wipes in the meat section of the grocery store. Plastic bags could be found in the meat section 85% (n=97) of the time, which only 25% of shoppers (n=82) used the bag for their poultry products. During transportation, the consumer bagged the poultry separately from other products in 71% of the observations. A majority of shoppers (59%) stored poultry without using a plastic bag or other container. Overall, there needs to be an increase in food safety education on the handling of poultry during purchasing, transporting, and storage.

Abstract:
The client is an organization founded and is operational in Sweden, Stockholm. The company focuses on manufacturing of clean tech solutions with its self-developed technology. Their technology generate power from renewable sources. The technology is applied to a substrate which is manufactured inside the factory, today's handling of the substrate must be made more effective. The purpose of the work is to analyze and optimize the handling of substrate in the factory. This includes from substrate manufacturing to storage to the next process in the chain.  The approach to the work began with a background study, preparation of a schedule, development of concepts and concept evaluation. To structure the work, the decision was made to follow the methods developed in the book Six Sigma’s.  The background study gathered information and knowledge about the subject to give a more profound understanding. Market studies were also conducted to find suitable solutions as well as components and products.  Several concepts were developed using brainstorming. The concepts were evaluated intuitively and using Pugh's matrix. The most suitable concept was further developed and dimensioned based on the conditions. Computer models were manufactured for the development and illustration of concepts.  The project resulted in the way the company transfer rolls today is the most optimal with the conditions that exist. The focus was therefore shifted to the development of a paternoster plant for storing rolls. The storage system that was developed holds up to 10 rolls at a time with a weight of 450 kg each. The construction has a maximum height of 3,17 meters, width of 3 meters and a depth of 1,6 meters. The concept will increase the efficiency of the workers by making it easier to sort rolls and reduce the workload.  There are several possibilities for improvement for optimizing the substrate handling in the factory and these are discussed in the last chapter.<br>Uppdragsgivaren är ett företag grundat och operativa i Sverige, Stockholm.

Abstract:
AbstractTitleComplaints Handling and Social MediaPurposeThe purpose of the project is to describe how companies conduct complaints handling in socialmedia and how they listen, talk and energize with the help of social media in terms of complaintshandling.Research QuestionsHow do companies perform complaints handling in social media? How do companies listen, talkand energize in social media in terms of complaints handling?Theory and ConceptsComplaints handling; encouraging customers to voice a complaint; the role of front-lineemployees in complaints handling; the role of compensation in complaints handling; socialmedia and relationship marketing; listening in social media; talking in social media; energizingon social mediaMethodologyThe study is descriptive with deductive approach. The research is qualitative and the researchstrategy is one-to-one interviews. Interviews were conducted with social media representatives ofBeeline, SAS supermarkets’ chain and Figaro restaurant group in Armenia.ConclusionsFrom the research it was concluded that SAS supermarkets’ chain and Figaro restaurant group interms of complaints handling mainly embrace the relationship potentials social media provides. That is they listen to complaints on social media; they always response to complaints either bytaking proactive measures or describing the situation; however, they do not energize customerswith stories about successful complaints handling experiences. While, in terms of complaintshandling, Beeline does not use the tools of listening, talking and energizing properly. It was alsoconcluded that both SAS supermarkets’ chain and Figaro restaurant group conduct complaintshandling in social media environment mainly in accordance to theories about how successfulcomplaints handling can be done, while Beeline does not.

Abstract:
With the advancement in technology, software systems are more and more in control of devices that we use in our daily lives. Complex computer systems are increasingly built for highly critical tasks. Failures of such systems may have severe consequences ranging from loss of business opportunities, physical damage, to loss of human lives. Systems with such responsibilities should be highly dependable. Discovering and documenting potential abnormal situations and irregular user behavior that can interrupt normal system interaction is of tremendous importance in the context of dependable systems development. Exceptions that are identified during requirements elicitation have to be systematically carried over to a subsequent analysis phase, and included in the system specification in order to ensure that the implementation of the system later on can deal with all relevant exceptional situations. This thesis advocates a more methodical approach to exception handling by extending the requirements elicitation and analysis phases of the Fondue development process to address exceptions. Exceptions are discovered at the requirements stage of software development using a use-case based approach, and then mapped to the Fondue specification models: the environment model, in which exceptional messages that signal exceptional situations to the system, the concept model, in which exceptional state is specified that keeps track of the failures of secondary actors, and the operation model, in which recovery functionality is specified.

Abstract:
<p>Miniaturization is a strong on-going trend within analyticalchemistry. This has led to an increased demand for newtechnologies allowing smaller volumes of samples as well asreagents to be utilized. This thesis deals with the use of openchip-based reactors (vials); a concept that offers an increasedflexibility compared to the use of closed reactors. The vialsare manufactured by anisotropic etching of silicon.</p><p>First, a short introduction is given on the benefits ofperforming chemistry in miniaturized formats. Different typesof reactors useful for performing chemistry in nanoscale aredescribed and the advantages and disadvantages of using aclosed contra anopen system are discussed.</p><p>Precise dosing of nanoliter-sized volumes of liquids incontact mode is performed by using miniaturized pipette tips orcapillaries<b>(Paper I, III&IV)</b>. Also, non-contact dosing usingpiezo-electric dispensers is demonstrated by performingnanoliter sized acid-base titrations<b>(Paper II)</b>. Standard deviations on the order of 1% wereobtained.</p><p>Several strategies for handling the evaporation of water, while performing tryptic digests of native myoglobin in lownanoliter sized vials, are demonstrated. An increasedconversion rate of the protein to peptides was observed when ananovial (15 nL) reactor was used compared to the use of aconventional plastic vial (100 µL). Principles based onreducing the driving force for evaporation<b>(Paper III)</b>, continuous compensation of evaporatedmaterial<b>(Paper IV)</b>as well as covering the reaction liquid witha volatile liquid lid of solvent<b>(Paper V)</b>are used. The volatile liquid lid is also usedwhen performing PCR in volumes as low as 50 nL<b>(Paper VI)</b>.</p><p>Short descriptions of the analytical methods utilized in thethesis; capillary electrophoresis<b>(Paper III, IV, V&VI)</b>, matrix assisted laserdesorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry<b>(Paper I)</b>and fluorescence measurements<b>(Paper II&VI)</b>are presented.</p><p>Finally, an outlook of the developed technologies is giventogether with a discussion concerning possible futurerequirements in miniaturized chemistry.</p><p>Keywords: capillary electrophoresis, continuouscompensation, enzymatic degradation, evaporation,lab-on-a-chip, liquid lid, MALDI, miniaturization, myoglobin, nanoliter, nanoscale chemistry, parallel, picoliter, piezo?dispenser, polymerase chain reaction, reactor, titration, tryptic digest, vial</p><p>© Erik Litborn, 2000</p>
