We have made 3.6 cm VLBI observations of the RS CVn binary star IM Pegasi (HR 8703) approximately four times per year since 1997 in support of the NASA/Stanford Relativity Gyroscope Experiment (Gravity Probe B). Phase-referenced maps reveal structural changes in the radio emission of the star on hour time scales during several of the sessions. Analyses of the VLBI phase delays with a Kalman-filter estimator reveal submilliarcsecond motions of the radio centroid of the star on hour and even subhour time scales. The observed structural changes and centroid motions often coincide with rapid chang

These high quality data give the first information on the temporal and spectral variability of CC Eri in the X-ray energy band.During the ROSAT observations the X-ray intensity of the source is variable on timescales from a few minutes to several hours. The X-ray luminosity is in the range 2.5 – 6.8 × 1029 erg s−1, which is similar to values found from previous measurements with the Einstein IPC and EXOSAT LE. On 199

Manipulating light quality is a potential alternative method of regulating plant height in the commercial production of ornamental crops. In particular, end-of-day (EOD) lighting with a high red (R; 600–700 nm) to far-red (FR; 700–800 nm) ratio (R:FR) can suppress extension growth, whereas a low R:FR can promote it. We investigated the effects of the R:FR and duration of EOD lighting in regulating extension growth and flowering of two poinsettia cultivars, White Glitter and Marble Star. Plants were grown at 20 °C under 9-hour days with or without EOD lighting provided by two types of light-emi

The criticisms of Clarice Lispector’s The Hour of the Star (1977) were analyzed by (re) evaluating its relevance and the legacy of its author. After a critical review of the texts in popular publications, it was found that, in Brazil, the debates about the novel were centered between explicitness and introspection, social commitment and aesthetic sublimation. Foreign critics, on the other hand, raised Lispector’s ability to reach diverse audiences and the readability of her work, including disputes over her prestige as an author among other great writers and the relevance of her compositions.

AbstractV479 And is a 14.26 hour, close binary system, comprised of a G8-K0 star departing from the main sequence and a compact primary star accreting matter from the donor. The object is an X-ray source, modulated with the orbital period. This, and the presence of an intense He II line, leads us to speculate that the compact object is a magnetic white dwarf. However, we do not find strong constraints on the upper mass limit of the compact object, and we may have a neutron star in a low mass X-ray binary instead of a cataclysmic variable. The orbital period is certainly too short for the donor

"Sweet Black Pussy for Sale" sets the stage for this very feminine and colloquial laced collection of verse. Both figuratively and literally, the voices of a seldom-traveled African-American culture are depicted through these songs. These poems moan out the anthems of those unsung heroes and heroines from my family lineage. The voices of my long dead grandfather, grandmother, aunts and great uncle haunt poems such as "Blues,"
