Abstract:
The formation of the national image is a part of the public diplomacy which presents the nation's overall power and the influence of the nation. This research, with the topic of “The First Lady and the Nation's image”, analyzes the press reports of South Korea and China on the new First Ladies of China and North Korea, Li Sol-ju and Peng Liyuan, to review the national images of the two nations. The research findings illustrate the national images of two countries: China has an image of a political power in developing process. Also, North Korea, although it is not a powerful country in international diplomacy, appears to play its important part in the international stage with an image of a conservative nation. Furthermore, with the appearance of the First Lady, China gained more recognition and attracted greater attention in the international community, and North Korea, on the other hand, also receives worldwide interests, but still has a mysterious and curious image. It was clear that both countries are willing to improve their national images at home and abroad by their First Ladies.

Abstract:
In the Post Covid-19 Era, taking the advantage of shaping a true, active, and the positive national image is of strategic significance for China to transform the fake national image constructed by other countries, and also for its development in the future. Based on the corpus of a white paper Fighting Covid-19: China in Action, the paper is intended to focus on the transitivity system to examine how China constructs a positive national image in the fight against the pandemic. The findings show that China has constructed four kinds of national images in the fight, including; the persistent image of solidarity and bravery; the responsible image of duty-shouldering and challenge-facing; the humanism image of respecting human lives and rights; the diplomatic image of dedication and commitment. By virtue of self-constructing national image, it is conducive to telling Chinese stories, spreading Chinese image, and sharing Chinese experience in the battle of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract:
Sailors in premodern China performed various types of rituals to pray for safe voyages. This article investigates a unique seven-dot image discovered from shipwrecks dated to thirteenth- and fourteenth-century China. Comparing the seven-dot image with the Big-Dipper image in premodern navigation maps, this article demonstrates that the seven-dot image represents the Big Dipper. The Big Dipper in premodern China was both an essential, practical guidance in maritime voyages and a religious symbol that the faithful believed could prolong the human’s lifespan and command the element of water. The dual function of the Big Dipper endowed the Big-Dipper images in ships with a dual meaning and made it particularly auspicious. The Big Dipper’s practical function prompted the carvers to present the image accurately, making it distinctive from other Big-Dipper images in the religious context.

Abstract:
Limited tourism research has as yet drawn attention to the differences and interactions between country image and destination image. Therefore, this research explored the relationships among country image, destination image, familiarity, and destination evaluation. Based on an empirical study of international tourists in Beijing, China, a model was proposed covering these four variables. Country image mainly affected international tourists’ evaluations of China as a destination in a conditional indirect way, mediated by destination image and especially by psychological image, and moderated by familiarity. Moreover, familiarity directly and positively influenced functional destination image and negatively moderated the relationship between country and psychological destination images.

Abstract:
Although there is growing awareness of the relationship between hosting mega-sporting-events and destination image, there is little empirical evidence documenting what images people hold before an event. The purpose of this study was to investigate the images young Americans hold of China both as a tourist destination and as the host of the 2008 Olympic Games. Specifically, the relationships among destination image, travel intentions, and tourist characteristics were explored. A total of 350 college students were surveyed before the close of the Athens Olympic Games. Overall, the respondents perceived China and the Beijing Olympic Games positively. Destination image was significantly (p< .05) predictive of the intention to travel to China and the Olympic Games. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that destination image partially mediated the relationship between past international travel experience and intention to travel. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed with a view to promoting China as a tourist destination and the host of the Olympic Games.

Abstract:
The specificity of the image of China in the works of the poet-young emigrant V. Pereleshin is examined in the article. It is argued that China is represented in Pereleshin’s poetry in different aspects: it is the nature of the country, and culture, and literature. The relevance of the study is due to the need to identify the specifics of the embodiment of the image of China in the poetry of the Russian emigration. From this point of view, the author analyzes the motive-thematic complex, the system of images, allusions and reminiscences associated with the depiction of China in the poet’s work. The novelty of the article lies in the fact that such a feature of Pereleshin’s poetics as the principle of “translation” from the language of one culture into the language of another is analyzed in detail, the specifics of the relationship between “friend” and “foe” in the poet’s work are shown. The authors come to the conclusion that V. Pereleshin’s lyrics are characterized by immersion in the world of China: they are filled with Chinese landscapes, sights, images of customs and pages of Chinese history. At the same time, the polylogue of cultures is embodied in Pereleshin’s poetry: a deep interest in this country is combined with adherence to the traditions of Russian lyric poetry of the 19th — early 20th centuries and an ap-peal to the images and motives of world culture.

Abstract:
Purpose Tourists’ destination image is crucial for visiting intentions. An ancient capital with diverse characteristics is an important component of China’s urban tourism. The purpose of this paper is to address the following questions: what are the differences and commonalities of the perceived destination image of ancient capitals? What makes the difference of the perceived destination image in these cities? Aside from the exterior factors, are there internal factors of cities that influence tourists’ cognition and perception of destination image? Design/methodology/approach The comment text data of Baidu tourism website were used to determine the differences in the destination images of China’s four great ancient capitals: Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing and Luoyang. ROST content mining and semantic network analysis were for differences and commonalities of the perceived destination image, and correlation analysis was used to explore the internal factors of cities that influence tourists’ cognition and perception of destination image. Findings Though the same as ancient capital, the four ancient capitals’ images are far apart; historical interests are the core of tourism experience in ancient capital city; image perception is from physical carrier, history and culture, and human cognition; tourist’ destination affect of ancient capital is most from its history and culture; protecting identity and maintaining daily life are crucial for ancient city tourism. Originality/value Previous studies on ancient capitals have focused on the invariable identity of ancient capitals’ destination images, and left a gap on determining from where the invariable identity comes in general and how much it influences destination image. This gap was addressed in this study, by analyzing the destination images of four ancient capitals in China as cases. In this way, this study provided reference to the other ancient cities worldwide.

Abstract:
Paying attention to the national images is not only the progress of history, but also the need of national development. In the transmission of national image, the mass media plays a more and more important role. Therefore, this paper, taking the bilingual corpus of “the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China” in the mass media China Daily (bilingual edition) as an example, explores the transmission of China’s national image from the perspective of the use of different translation strategies to reveal the impact of different translation strategies on the transmission of national image. Based on the consideration of cultural factors and the theme of “the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China”, it is found that the Chinese and English versions of China Daily have built a similar but not identical, different but not contradictory national image.

Abstract:
Building on the assumption that the image of China within the Swedish state is pluralist, the aim of this study is to explore this plurality through the lens of Pan Chengxin’s paradigms “China threat” and “China opportunity”. A second aim is to contribute to the theory by applying it in a different context compared to where it originated. This is explored through the method of frame analysis and interpretive text analysis. The study shows that the image is indeed pluralist and differs between entities. Frames that are commonly used by one entity are non-existent in texts by another. There are also differences in emphasis within frames and within entities. Understanding how China is framed and imagined in different parts of the Swedish state can be useful in itself as it helps us understand that the relationship between Sweden and China is complex and dynamic. Furthermore, the study shows that while Pan’s paradigms can be a useful outset point, one cannot understand the Swedish image of China without also looking beyond them. The Swedish China image holds nuances unaccounted for by the theory, particularly in the perception of China as heterogenous to a higher extent than anticipated.

Abstract:
The objective of this research is to analyse the image of the Chinese Other shown in book covers of contemporary Chinese narrative translated into Spanish and/or Catalan published in Spain from 1949 to 2029. Translation has always played a key role in intercultural communication. In this process, apart from the text itself, paratexts also play an important role in the transmission of cultural and social information from one culture to another. Moreover, paratexts offer mediating agents a freer space to display their ideology to construct the image of the Other according to readers' expectations, which are often made up of stereotypes. Based on an analysis of 197 book covers, we found out that paratexts have been a powerful tool to build the image of the Chinese Other in Spain through translated literature. After a qualitative and quantitative analysis, we also realised that the Chinese Other shown in book covers does not correspond to that depicted in the corresponding stories from a chronological point of view. Moreover, we also notice an inconsistent use of sinograms appearing in book covers, since they are used a cultural mark in order to underline the exotic character of Chinese culture.
