Abstract:
It is not a secret that information resources are becoming increasingly important in the activities of the enterprises. The development of marketing information systems is associated, first of all, with a change in the role of marketing in the activities of enterprises and the development of new information technologies. If at the first stage of the functioning of marketing information systems, work was carried out with scattered arrays of information coming from the external environment irregularly, then gradually the process of collecting and processing marketing information became more systematized, and the information became more integrated, which facilitated the analysis and use of data within the company, improved the quality data entering the system. The main aim of the marketing information system in enterprises is to transform the available information about the state of the marketing object, as well as about the processes taking place in the marketing environment into the form necessary and perceived by the manager, which allows him to assess the state of the marketing object, the development of the situation, and simulate their change.

Abstract:
The present paper studies the process of information generation during design and focuses on the relationship between the information importance and the required effort for its generation. Multiple associative relationships among design entities (handled as design descriptors) are used to represent the design knowledge. The characteristics of the dependent and the primary descriptors are examined and their distinct roles in the design process are discussed. Term definitions concerning the information importance and the design effort are also introduced. The descriptors are used to form a matrix. A number of operations on this matrix results in its transformation, with the final matrix reflecting the quantitative relationship between the information importance and the design effort. From the aforementioned matrix, a unique sorted list for the primary design descriptors is produced. Following this list during descriptor instantiation ensures the production of design information of maximum importance with the least effort in the early design stages. The design of a belt conveyor is used as a basis for a better understanding of the theoretical analysis and for a demonstration of the use of the suggested descriptor list.

Stephens, Joshua J. "Data Governance Importance and Effectiveness| Health System Employee Perception." Thesis, Central Michigan University, 2018. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10751061.

Full text
Abstract:

The focus of this study was to understand how health system employees define Data Governance (DG), how they perceive its importance and effectiveness to their role and how it may impact strategic outcomes of the organization. Having a better understanding of employee perceptions will help identify areas of education, process improvement and opportunities for more structured data governance within the healthcare industry. Additionally, understanding how employees associate each of these domains to strategic outcomes, will help inform decision-makers on how best to align the Data Governance strategy with that of the organization.

This research is intended to expand the data governance community’s knowledge about how health system employee demographics influence their perceptions of Data Governance. Very little academic research has been done to-date, which is unfortunate given the value of employee engagement to an organization’s culture juxtaposed to the intent of Data Governance to change that culture into one that fully realizes the value of its data and treats it as a corporate asset. This lack of understanding leads to two distinct problems: executive resistance toward starting a Data Governance Program due to the lack of association between organizational strategic outcomes and Data Governance, and employee, or cultural, resistance to the change Data Governance brings to employee roles and processes.

The dataset for this research was provided by a large mid-west health system’s Enterprise Data Governance Program and was collected internally through an electronic survey. A mixed methods approach was taken. The first analysis intended to see how employees varied in their understanding of the definition of data governance as represented by the Data Management Association’s DAMA Wheel. The last three research questions focused on determining which factors influence a health system employee’s perception of the importance, effectiveness, and impact Data Governance has on their role and on the organization.

Perceptions on the definition of Data Governance varied slightly for Gender, Management Role, IT Role, and Role Tenure, and the thematic analysis identified a lack of understanding of Data Governance by health system employees. Perceptions of Data Governance importance and effectiveness varied by participants’ gender, and organizational role as part of analytics, IT, and Management. In general, employees perceive a deficit of data governance to their role based on their perceptions of importance and effectiveness. Lastly, employee perceptions of the impact of Data Governance on strategic outcomes varied among participants by gender for Cost of Care and by Analytics Role for Quality of Analytics. For both Quality of Care and Patient Experience, perceptions did not vary.

Perceptions related to the impact of Data Governance on strategic outcomes found that Data Quality Management was most impactful to all four strategic outcomes included in the study: quality of care, cost of care, patient experience, and quality of analytics. Leveraging the results of this study to tailor communication, education and training, and roles and responsibilities required for a successful implementation of Data Governance in healthcare should be considered by DG practitioners and executive leadership implementing or evaluating a DG Program within a healthcare organization. Additionally, understanding employee perceptions of Data Governance and their impact to strategic outcomes will provide meaningful insight to executive leadership who have difficulty connecting the cost of Data Governance to the value realization, which is moving the organization closer to achieving the Triple Aim by benefiting from their data.

Abstract:

This essay studies the design process from a collaborative point of view. A literature study has been carried out with focus on design processes and collaborative design, where important concepts and notions are presented. A practical design process was carried out where the project was to create a station identification for Swedish Channel 9. The process was than retrospectively analyzed and broken down into a time-line describing the whole process from amongst other a collaborative point of view. Collaboration between designers and client is found to be very important for the final design. Constraints are considered important to force creativity and the ability to convey abstract thoughts over long distance channels such as e-mail is found to be important in order to overcome the spatial barrier that exists in many design processes today.

Abstract:
Head and Neck (H&N) cancers are a diverse group of malignant tumors arising in the mouth, nose, pharynx and larynx. They are the 8th most common cancers in the world. Individuals who receive a diagnosis of these cancers often have enormous unmet informational needs. In spite of a large quantity of literature advocating the necessity to move from "one size fits all" to a tailored approach while providing information to cancer patients, the majority of hospitals provide information in an ad hoc manner. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the impacts of a multimedia based tailored information service on H&N cancer patients' anxiety, depression, satisfaction and cancer knowledge ratings. Our secondary aim was to describe and compare the experiences of H&N cancer patients' receiving information concerning their cancer and treatment at two hospitals with different approaches to deliver information. We used an embedded mixed methods research design within a non-randomized controlled trial within which we nested a qualitative study to address the aforementioned secondary aims. The project was conducted with stage III and IV H&N cancer patients at the participating hospitals. Ethical approval was obtained from the Institutional Review Board and the Research Ethics Boards of the participating hospitals. The test hospital delivered the Multimode Comprehensive Tailored Information Package (MCTIP) and the control hospital received the normal care. A total of 103 individuals with H&N cancer took part in the quantitative study, out of which 96 participants completed baseline and all follow up evaluations. In the qualitative study, a subsample of 11 participants of the main study and 2 Nurse Pivots took part. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected concurrently. Our study findings show that the participants who received the test intervention experienced significantly lower levels of anxiety, had higher levels of cancer knowledge, were better satisfied with the information they received and had a good information provision experience in comparison to the subjects who received the normal care. Therefore, we conclude that MCTIP is a potentially beneficial adjuvant in H&N cancer care.

Abstract:
School-to-work transition data are an important component of labor market information systems (LMIS). Policy makers, researchers, and education providers benefit from knowing how long it takes work-seekers to find employment, how and where they search for employment, the quality of employment obtained, and how steady it is over time. In less-developed countries, these data are poorly collected, or not collected at all, a situation the International Labour Organization and other donors have attempted to change. However, LMIS reform efforts typically miss a critical part of the picture—the geospatial aspects of these transitions. Few LMIS systems fully consider or integrate geospatial school-to-work transition information, ignoring data critical to understanding and supporting successful and sustainable employment: employer locations; transportation infrastructure; commute time, distance, and cost; location of employment services; and other geographic barriers to employment. We provide recently collected geospatial school-to-work transition data from South Africa and Kenya to demonstrate the importance of these data and their implications for labor market and urban development policy.

Abstract:
Decentralization reforms have shifted responsibility for public service delivery to local government, yet little is known about how their management practices or behavior shape performance. We conducted a comprehensive management survey of mid-level education bureaucrats and their staff in every district in Tanzania, and employ flexible machine learning techniques to identify important management practices associated with learning outcomes. We find that management practices explain 10 percent of variation in a district's exam performance. The three management practices most predictive of performance are: i) the frequency of school visits; ii) school and teacher incentives administered by the district manager; and iii) performance review of staff. Although the model is not causal, these findings suggest the importance of robust systems to motivate district staff, schools, and teachers, that include frequent monitoring of schools. They also show the importance of surveying subordinates of managers, in order to produce richer information on management practices.
