Full textThe focus of this study was to understand how health system employees define Data Governance (DG), how they perceive its importance and effectiveness to their role and how it may impact strategic outcomes of the organization. Having a better understanding of employee perceptions will help identify areas of education, process improvement and opportunities for more structured data governance within the healthcare industry. Additionally, understanding how employees associate each of these domains to strategic outcomes, will help inform decision-makers on how best to align the Data Governance strategy with that of the organization.
This research is intended to expand the data governance community’s knowledge about how health system employee demographics influence their perceptions of Data Governance. Very little academic research has been done to-date, which is unfortunate given the value of employee engagement to an organization’s culture juxtaposed to the intent of Data Governance to change that culture into one that fully realizes the value of its data and treats it as a corporate asset. This lack of understanding leads to two distinct problems: executive resistance toward starting a Data Governance Program due to the lack of association between organizational strategic outcomes and Data Governance, and employee, or cultural, resistance to the change Data Governance brings to employee roles and processes.
The dataset for this research was provided by a large mid-west health system’s Enterprise Data Governance Program and was collected internally through an electronic survey. A mixed methods approach was taken. The first analysis intended to see how employees varied in their understanding of the definition of data governance as represented by the Data Management Association’s DAMA Wheel. The last three research questions focused on determining which factors influence a health system employee’s perception of the importance, effectiveness, and impact Data Governance has on their role and on the organization.
Perceptions on the definition of Data Governance varied slightly for Gender, Management Role, IT Role, and Role Tenure, and the thematic analysis identified a lack of understanding of Data Governance by health system employees. Perceptions of Data Governance importance and effectiveness varied by participants’ gender, and organizational role as part of analytics, IT, and Management. In general, employees perceive a deficit of data governance to their role based on their perceptions of importance and effectiveness. Lastly, employee perceptions of the impact of Data Governance on strategic outcomes varied among participants by gender for Cost of Care and by Analytics Role for Quality of Analytics. For both Quality of Care and Patient Experience, perceptions did not vary.
Perceptions related to the impact of Data Governance on strategic outcomes found that Data Quality Management was most impactful to all four strategic outcomes included in the study: quality of care, cost of care, patient experience, and quality of analytics. Leveraging the results of this study to tailor communication, education and training, and roles and responsibilities required for a successful implementation of Data Governance in healthcare should be considered by DG practitioners and executive leadership implementing or evaluating a DG Program within a healthcare organization. Additionally, understanding employee perceptions of Data Governance and their impact to strategic outcomes will provide meaningful insight to executive leadership who have difficulty connecting the cost of Data Governance to the value realization, which is moving the organization closer to achieving the Triple Aim by benefiting from their data.

Full textThis essay studies the design process from a collaborative point of view. A literature study has been carried out with focus on design processes and collaborative design, where important concepts and notions are presented. A practical design process was carried out where the project was to create a station identification for Swedish Channel 9. The process was than retrospectively analyzed and broken down into a time-line describing the whole process from amongst other a collaborative point of view. Collaboration between designers and client is found to be very important for the final design. Constraints are considered important to force creativity and the ability to convey abstract thoughts over long distance channels such as e-mail is found to be important in order to overcome the spatial barrier that exists in many design processes today.

Full textThis Thesis is all about the inclusion of new learning technologies in education. The study has been conducted in Tanzania and the population included the University students. Due to continuous growth of user generated content and the subsequent ability to share and even collaborate online, the social networking sites have emerged to be of great importance. The importance is not only in information sharing but also in education processes. On the other hand, the communities have not yet realized the great potential lying in the social networking sites in terms of education. Despite the publications and studies done elsewhere including America and Europe still much has not been done in the developing World and particularly in Tanzania. This study has concentrated on the use of the social networking sites into academic perspective putting focus on the students.

Full textThe purpose of this quantitative non-experimental study was to extend and enhance the growing body of research related to electronic commerce by examining the relative importance of content, ease-of-use, promotion, made-for-the-medium, and emotion elements of manufacturer’s representatives’ websites from the perspectives of site users, and to determine if the relative importance of these website elements varies as a function of occupational category. As these things are currently unknown, manufacturer’s representatives do not currently understand how to apply these critical elements to create a successful web presence. In this study, participants consisted of 90 graduates from four year accredited programs having earned a degree related to the art or science of illumination with a minimum of 5 years involvement in the lighting industry. The mean for content (M = 38.34, SD = 13.45) and ease-of-use (M = 34.17, SD = 12.96) indicated they were the most important website elements. Substantially lower means were found for emotion (M = 7.23, SD = 6.30) and promotion (M = 7.40, SD = 6.55) as well as made for the medium (M = 12.86, SD = 8.48) indicating these website elements to be less important. The mean ratings for the five website elements as a function of occupational group indicate little variation between the occupational groups in terms of the relative importance of the five website elements. Content and Ease-of-use were rated as more important than Promotion, Made for the Medium, and Emotion for all five occupational groups. The findings of this research suggest future research is needed taking industry specific contexts into account. In order to accomplish this, future research could be performed on a larger scale, with multiple industries. As the Internet continues to evolve, more research will be needed to evaluate how new technologies will affect the design of websites, and the effect on website element importance. Future research could also examine the relationship of industry, income, age, gender, or other demographics to website element preference. Research relating to the application of existing theory in an electronic commerce context is also an area for future research.

Full textWith the rapid growth of technology and a fast pace society, students have discovered tablet computers, a powerful portable useful device for education. Although studies have shown rapid growth of tablet computer adaptation within education, limited research exists regarding how tablet computers are used for classroom performance, communication, and leadership among college students. The purpose of the study was to explore and understand how college students use tablet computers by interviewing undergraduate and graduate students. Interview results of 20 college students are as follows: (a) students reported that tablet computers were more portable, easier to use, and convenient devices over laptop computers; (b) in regard to classroom performance, students expressed that the use of e-text books combined with tablets was a faster method of searching for a specific subject over standard paperback books; (c) in regards to leadership, many students believed that tablets are only a tool for leaders but not an essential tool for leading people; and (d) in regard to communication, students expressed that tablet computers was an essential tool for team projects and communicating with their professors and peers while on the go. The study includes a discussion of future research in leadership’s use of technology in the workplace, college professors’ perceptions of tablet computers in the classroom, and marketing modern tablet computers.
