Abstract:
The aim of my project was to find different ways to make playing easier and freer. What does it actually mean to let go and what could help to achieve more secure and relaxed feeling in your body when playing your instrument? I collected and experimented with exercises from a book The Inner Game of Music and Alexander Technique. I found out that knowing more precisely what to focus on and being more aware of the body can have a great effect. I discovered more gentle ways to teach myself and learned about the importance of how we are treating and using our bodies during practicing and in everyday situations.

Abstract:
This dissertation addresses five fundamental resource allocation problems on networks, all of which have applications to support Homeland Security or industry challenges. In the first application, we model and solve the strategic problem of minimizing the expected loss inflicted by a hostile terrorist organization. An appropriate allocation of certain capability-related, intent-related, vulnerability-related, and consequence-related resources is used to reduce the probabilities of success in the respective attack-related actions, and to ameliorate losses in case of a successful attack. Given the disparate nature of prioritizing capital and material investments by federal, state, local, and private agencies to combat terrorism, our model and accompanying solution procedure represent an innovative, comprehensive, and quantitative approach to coordinate resource allocations from various agencies across the breadth of domains that deal with preventing attacks and mitigating their consequences. Adopting a nested event tree optimization framework, we present a novel formulation for the problem as a specially structured nonconvex factorable program, and develop two branch-and-bound schemes based respectively on utilizing a convex nonlinear relaxation and a linear outer-approximation, both of which are proven to converge to a global optimal solution. We also investigate a fundamental special-case variant for each of these schemes, and design an alternative direct mixed-integer programming model representation for this scenario. Several range reduction, partitioning, and branching strategies are proposed, and extensive computational results are presented to study the efficacy of different compositions of these algorithmic ingredients, including comparisons with the commercial software BARON. The developed set of algorithmic implementation strategies and enhancements are shown to outperform BARON over a set of simulated test instances, where the best proposed methodology produces an average optimality gap of 0.35% (compared to 4.29% for BARON) and reduces the required computational effort by a factor of 33. A sensitivity analysis is also conducted to explore the effect of certain key model parameters, whereupon we demonstrate that the prescribed algorithm can attain significantly tighter optimality gaps with only a near-linear corresponding increase in computational effort. In addition to enabling effective comprehensive resource allocations, this research permits coordinating agencies to conduct quantitative what-if studies on the impact of alternative resourcing priorities. The second application is motivated by the author's experience with the U.S. Army during a tour in Iraq, during which combined operations involving U.S. Army, Iraqi Army, and Iraqi Police forces sought to interdict the transport of selected materials used for the manufacture of specialized types of Improvised Explosive Devices, as well as to interdict the distribution of assembled devices to operatives in the field. In this application, we model and solve the problem of minimizing the maximum flow through a network from a given source node to a terminus node, integrating different forms of superadditive synergy with respect to the effect of resources applied to the arcs in the network. Herein, the superadditive synergy reflects the additional effectiveness of forces conducting combined operations, vis-à-vis unilateral efforts. We examine linear, concave, and general nonconcave superadditive synergistic relationships between resources, and accordingly develop and test effective solution procedures for the underlying nonlinear programs. For the linear case, we formulate an alternative model representation via Fourier-Motzkin elimination that reduces average computational effort by over 40% on a set of randomly generated test instances. This test is followed by extensive analyses of instance parameters to determine their effect on the levels of synergy attained using different specified metrics. For the case of concave synergy relationships, which yields a convex program, we design an inner-linearization procedure that attains solutions on average within 3% of optimality with a reduction in computational effort by a factor of 18 in comparison with the commercial codes SBB and BARON for small- and medium-sized problems; and outperforms these softwares on large-sized problems, where both solvers failed to attain an optimal solution (and often failed to detect a feasible solution) within 1800 CPU seconds. Examining a general nonlinear synergy relationship, we develop solution methods based on outer-linearizations, inner-linearizations, and mixed-integer approximations, and compare these against the commercial software BARON. Considering increased granularities for the outer-linearization and mixed-integer approximations, as well as different implementation variants for both these approaches, we conduct extensive computational experiments to reveal that, whereas both these techniques perform comparably with respect to BARON on small-sized problems, they significantly improve upon the performance for medium- and large-sized problems. Our superlative procedure reduces the computational effort by a factor of 461 for the subset of test problems for which the commercial global optimization software BARON could identify a feasible solution, while also achieving solutions of objective value 0.20% better than BARON. The third application is likewise motivated by the author's military experience in Iraq, both from several instances involving coalition forces attempting to interdict the transport of a kidnapping victim by a sectarian militia as well as, from the opposite perspective, instances involving coalition forces transporting detainees between interment facilities. For this application, we examine the network interdiction problem of minimizing the maximum probability of evasion by an entity traversing a network from a given source to a designated terminus, while incorporating novel forms of superadditive synergy between resources applied to arcs in the network. Our formulations examine either linear or concave (nonlinear) synergy relationships. Conformant with military strategies that frequently involve a combination of overt and covert operations to achieve an operational objective, we also propose an alternative model for sequential overt and covert deployment of subsets of interdiction resources, and conduct theoretical as well as empirical comparative analyses between models for purely overt (with or without synergy) and composite overt-covert strategies to provide insights into absolute and relative threshold criteria for recommended resource utilization. In contrast to existing static models, in a fourth application, we present a novel dynamic network interdiction model that improves realism by accounting for interactions between an interdictor deploying resources on arcs in a digraph and an evader traversing the network from a designated source to a known terminus, wherein the agents may modify strategies in selected subsequent periods according to respective decision and implementation cycles. We further enhance the realism of our model by considering a multi-component objective function, wherein the interdictor seeks to minimize the maximum value of a regret function that consists of the evader's net flow from the source to the terminus; the interdictor's procurement, deployment, and redeployment costs; and penalties incurred by the evader for misperceptions as to the interdicted state of the network. For the resulting minimax model, we use duality to develop a reformulation that facilitates a direct solution procedure using the commercial software BARON, and examine certain related stability and convergence issues. We demonstrate cases for convergence to a stable equilibrium of strategies for problem structures having a unique solution to minimize the maximum evader flow, as well as convergence to a region of bounded oscillation for structures yielding alternative interdictor strategies that minimize the maximum evader flow. We also provide insights into the computational performance of BARON for these two problem structures, yielding useful guidelines for other research involving similar non-convex optimization problems. For the fifth application, we examine the problem of apportioning railcars to car manufacturers and railroads participating in a pooling agreement for shipping automobiles, given a dynamically determined total fleet size. This study is motivated by the existence of such a consortium of automobile manufacturers and railroads, for which the collaborative fleet sizing and efforts to equitably allocate railcars amongst the participants are currently orchestrated by the \textit{TTX Company} in Chicago, Illinois. In our study, we first demonstrate potential inequities in the industry standard resulting either from failing to address disconnected transportation network components separately, or from utilizing the current manufacturer allocation technique that is based on average nodal empty transit time estimates. We next propose and illustrate four alternative schemes to apportion railcars to manufacturers, respectively based on total transit time that accounts for queuing; two marginal cost-induced methods; and a Shapley value approach. We also provide a game-theoretic insight into the existing procedure for apportioning railcars to railroads, and develop an alternative railroad allocation scheme based on capital plus operating costs. Extensive computational results are presented for the ten combinations of current and proposed allocation techniques for automobile manufacturers and railroads, using realistic instances derived from representative data of the current business environment. We conclude with recommendations for adopting an appropriate apportionment methodology for implementation by the industry.

Abstract: The research supported by FAPESP, is in search of new paradigms in the current continuing education of educators, seeking to expand the discussion around the mutual contributions of the areas of art and education. Conducted an investigation relating these areas, focusing on the use of the theatrical experience for the construction of pedagogical knowledge, creating links between artistic creation and creativity in educational practice. The objective, to its development, was to investigate creative possibilities of rapprochement between educational theory and practice, based on the proposition of the French educator Celestin Freinet: "If you do not return to the way of a child, you won't enter the Kingdom of Good Teaching." It's structure was based on field research conducted in AMIC - Friends of Children / Center Spiritist Faith and Love, and its methodological procedures identified with those of the Research Participant, or Creation Research and was split into three distinct fronts: experimental practice through theatrical workshops held with a group of educators, monitoring the daily of educators in the classroom and interviews. The main theoretical references (besides Freinet) were: Janusz Korczak, Augusto Boal, Constantin Stanislavski and Viola Spolin. The themes that were developed: the empathy of the teacher on the student, the oppression that the teatcher has on this, the symbolic game as a possibility for communication between the adult and child world, the search for the child inside the educator through his memories and tricks of childhood, the trust built up by the body expression, allowing the creativity, spontaneity, self overrun, the recovery of their identity in a process that culminated in an assembly stage and public presentations of a theatrical piece.

”A finger pointing at the moon is not the moon...” -Buddhist Quote ”...but it can point you in the right direction.” -Charles Tart, American psychologist In this Master’s Thesis I will be presenting the idea of an Inner Gaze as an inherent witnessing system used in artistic practice. I will be mirroring my own practice as a Musician/Artist/Sound-Designer in the teachings of Hypnosis and The Science of Consciousness. Further I will share and analyze the collected data gathered from interviews with artists from different artistic fields, in order to gain a better understanding of how they experience their creative and performing minds. Is there any coherence in how we experience creativity? How common are the sensations of altered states of consciousness among artists? Can other artists relate to the idea of an inner gaze? Is this something we long to further explore and develop and would such a concept be beneficial for the artist and its works?

Abstract:
Through the course of this semester I have been fortunate to partake in an Honors seminar directed to applying some of the fundamental principles of leadership theory in the lives of its students, specifically as it relates to the projects(business plans) we were completing in as part of the requirement for the Entrepreneurship program – for me, personally, it related to Pocket Pantry – a smartphone app designed to enhance and simplify the modern grocery shopping experience. The means to achieve this end were to observe and listen to an array of demonstrated Entrepreneurs (all of whom were UA graduates) and take note of the specific ingredients that they felt had contributed to their success as leaders and businesspeople. The lessons learned from these incredible speakers were enhanced using several key leadership surveys (i.e. the Big 5 Personality Test). The combination of these mediums led to a comprehensive leadership assessment, the distilled findings of which are reach and explored in the following Thesis paper.

Abstract:
The reproductive biology of a pride of lions (Panthera leo) was studied on the 8500 ha Karongwe Game Reserve from 1999 to 2005. Over this period, the pride consisted of between four and 11 lions with a paired coalition of adult males during the first three years and a single adult male for the next three years. We recorded shorter than normal interbirth intervals, high birth rates of 1.3 cubs/lioness/year, very high cub survival rates, and subadults leaving the pride at young ages. This translated into substantially faster growth rates than are typical in large lion populations in ecologically similar circumstances such as Kruger National Park, but are similar to those of lions in Serengeti National Park. These demographic characteristics were probably induced initially by a lack of intense intraspecific competition and high prey availability, but population stability was maintained through the removal of young subadults by management. Interestingly, variability in conception rates between lionesses resulted in lower growth rates than have been found in other similar reintroduced lion populations. These demographic traits characterize many of the small reintroduced lion populations, and call for appropriate management to avoid the consequences of high predator densities.

This dissertation demonstrates that valuable strategic insight and a reasonable measure of predictive power can be obtained by developing and analyzing context-rich parsimonious game theoretic strategy models during large technology transitions in concentrated industries. Such models enable clear and compact analysis of oligopolistic competitive dynamics which are typically addressed by more informal processes in much of current managerial practice. This result is established by constructing 3-player game theory models of two prominent, ongoing technology transitions in semiconductor manufacturing: EUV lithography (EUVL) and 450mm silicon wafers. The iterative multi-data-source process used for establishing appropriate game structures and payoff estimates is described in detail. Contextual realism was augmented by in-depth behavioral analysis of select industry players and by interactions with the equipment supplier facing groups at a semiconductor device manufacturer. The robust game theoretic prediction from the EUV lithography R&D model was subsequently validated by the announcement of a series of chipmaker investments totaling greater than $6B in the largest photolithography supplier in July/August 2012 (including significant financial assistance to EUV equipment readiness) and by several other industry financing events in late 2012. Although no such distinct confirmatory evidence exists for the 450mm wafer model predictions, it was found to have substantial face validity. Based on learning from the modeling efforts, criteria are proposed for determining whether other technology transitions will be amenable to such analysis. Generalizability to similar transitions in other industries (including aerospace and automotive) is discussed. Industry strategists, technology and business strategy scholars, and innovation policy makers should find the work of interest.

Abstract:
Driven by an exponential growth in mobile broadband-enabled devices and a continue dincrease in individual data consumption, mobile data traffic has grown 4000-fold over the past 10 years and almost 400-million-fold over the past 15 years. Homogeneouscellular networks have been facing limitations to handle soaring mobile data traffic and to meet the growing end-user demand for more bandwidth and betterquality of experience. These limitations are mainly related to the available spectrumand the capacity of the network. Telecommunication industry has to address these challenges and meet exploding demand. At the same time, it has to guarantee a healthy economic model to reduce the carbon footprint which is caused by mobile communications.Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets), composed of macro base stations and low powerbase stations of different types, are seen as the key solution to improve spectral efficiency per unit area and to eliminate coverage holes. In such networks, intelligent user association and interference management schemes are needed to achieve gains in performance. Due to the large imbalance in transmission power between macroand small cells, user association based on strongest signal received is not adapted inHetNets as only few users would attach to low power nodes. A technique based onCell Individual Offset (CIO) is therefore required to perform load balancing and to favor some Small Cell (SC) attraction against Macro Cell (MC). This offset is addedto users’ Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) measurements and hence inducing handover towards different eNodeBs. As Long Term Evolution (LTE) cellular networks use the same frequency sub-bands, mobile users may experience strong inter-cellxv interference, especially at cell edge. Therefore, there is a need to coordinate resource allocation among the cells and minimize inter-cell interference. To mitigate stronginter-cell interference, the resource, in time, frequency and power domain, should be allocated efficiently. A pattern for each dimension is computed to permit especially for cell edge users to benefit of higher throughput and quality of experience. The optimization of all these parameters can also offer gain in energy use. In this thesis,we propose a concrete versatile dynamic solution performing an optimization of user association and resource allocation in LTE cellular networks maximizing a certainnet work utility function that can be adequately chosen. Our solution, based on gametheory, permits to compute Cell Individual Offset and a pattern of power transmission over frequency and time domain for each cell. We present numerical simulations toillustrate the important performance gain brought by this optimization. We obtain significant benefits in the average throughput and also cell edge user through put of40% and 55% gains respectively. Furthermore, we also obtain a meaningful improvement in energy efficiency. This work addresses industrial research challenges and assuch, a prototype acting on emulated HetNets traffic has been implemented

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to explain how sports events, in which North and South Korea have in some way worked or competed together, have affected the relationship between the two nations. This is carried out through the investigation of specific events; the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics, the competing of the joint table tennis- and football teams in 1991, the cooperation happening during the “sunshine policy”, from 1998 until 2008, as well as the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The studied material consists mostly of news reports and scientific works.   The result shows that while cooperation in sports is possible between the two Koreas, they have occurred only under favourable political circumstances. It is also concluded that the sports events have in return affected the inter-Korean relationship, and this cooperation has also generated further discussions between the two Koreas, a so called “spillover effect”.

This dissertation is intended as an "ethnography of the particular" that might demonstrate the inter-subjectivity of 'hosts' and 'guests' subject-positions so often presented as static and oppositional of township tourism in Cape Town, South Africa. The majority of research engages in a continuing debate that emphasizes either the 'hosts' or 'guests' of a global tourism industry as either the victims or profiteers of exploitation, or innovative and entrepreneurial agents of change. I attempt is to look for the transformative potentials in the ambiguities and ambivalences surrounding township tourism, as an industry representing evidence of further penetration by neoliberalism in sub-Saharan Africa, that does not pardon the proclivities of late capitalism to widen the gaps of social stratification, but rather questions its determinism in shaping subjectivities.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the typologies of inter-organizational strategies that firms can adopt to develop product innovation. It also highlights the implications of these strategies on the product innovation and on the market performance of these innovations. From a theoretical point of view, this research is based on (1) the analysis framework for the inter-organizational strategies, emphasizing the concepts of individual strategy, cooperation with non-competitors and co-opetition, as well as on (2) the product innovation, in the view of radical and incremental innovation concepts. The field of this research is the video game sector. The methodology is mixed. A qualitative exploratory study, based on the analysis of thirty interviews conducted with key actors in the video game industry, allowed the identification of the inter-organizational strategies, used to develop radical and incremental products innovations and to develop a typology. A quantitative study tests the relationship between the inter-organizational strategies identified and product innovation (binary logistic regression), and the link between these strategies and the market performance of product innovation (multivariate linear regression and estimated means comparison). This thesis highlights three key findings : (1) the first result shows that coopetition is the most viable strategy for product innovation and for the market performance of radical and incremental product innovation; (2) the second result shows that the horizontal coopetition is the most viable strategy for the market performance of radical and incremental product innovation, compared with the vertical coopetition, (3) while the strategy of simultaneously horizontal and vertical coopetition will be the most viable for the market performance of radical and incremental product innovation, in comparison with the horizontal coopetition. Thus, this thesis shows that the market performance of product innovation varies with the strategy, the partner and the type of product innovation (radical or incremental). In addition, the thesis highlights that, although coopetition is considered a high-risk strategy, risk is associated with a high level of performance

Abstract:
In this study, I analyze mainstream news-media framings of North Korea and the inter-Korean relationship in the London 2012 Olympic Games. I explore the role that media plays in promoting particular understandings of North and South Korean nations and relationships. My research was guided by the following questions: 1) How did mainstream news-media in South Korea and other national contexts frame the relationship between North Korea and South Korea in the London 2012 Games?; 2) How was North Korea’s involvement in the Games understood and portrayed within different news-media?; 3) To what extent were themes pertaining to the unity of and/or divisions between North and South Korea evident in the coverage?; 4) What differences were there, if any, between the South Korean coverage of these topics and other international news-media coverage?; and 5) What might these differences imply about subjectivity in decision-making processes in mainstream news-media, and/or about how journalists might be implicated in the promotion of stereotypes and/or xenophobia? This study draws on existing research on news-media coverage of conflict, sport, and nationalism with particular attention to the interrelated concepts of ideology, hegemony, and Orientalism (Said, 2003). Live-televised commentary and newspaper articles from South Korea and other English-speaking nations were collected and analyzed using Fairclough’s (1995) Critical Discourse Analysis to examine how language operates in framing events and topics in a manner that may make some points or perspectives more visible than others. The results illustrate that South Korean and international media covered North Korea’s involvement and the inter-Korean relationship during the Games differently. Namely, international media representations of North Korean performance were at times derogatory or dismissive, and included more discussions of the North Korean government and its associated conflicts and issues (as compared to South Korean coverage). As well, emphasis on division was found more often in international coverage when covering the inter-Korean relationship. The study concluded with commentary on the potential role of sport media producers in peace promotion and in the perpetuation of cultural violence, the potential impacts of the studied portrayals on audiences, and possibilities for developing more critically-informed approaches to creating media messages.

Abstract:
The transistors operating frequencies are well above 200GHz in the last silicon technology nodes. These performances have encouraged the research of the communication systems operating at millimeter wave frequencies. Such performances allow higher and higher multi-gigabit data rate and also more compact communication systems with on Silicon integrated antennas. The objective of this research work was to design a multi-gigabit wireless chip to chip communication system at 140GHz. Such a short-range communication system could be designed to improve or replace the inter-chip interconnects where data rates are limited. Secondly this communication system could also be used to improve the testability of on wafer dies by performing contactless test. The communication system with phase noise cancelation topology specifically self-heterodyne and self-homodyne, studied during the research work, are based on the carrier signal emission in addition to the modulated signal simplifies the frequency synthesis of the emitter and receiver parts. Millimeter wave frequency communication systems are conventionally based on carrier frequency recovering system that is complex and consumes a lot of energy. An On-Off Keying (OOK) modulation has been selected and all the parts of the transceiver have been designed in 0.13μm SiGe:C BiCMOS technology. The silicon area of the circuit is 0.31mm² including the antennas. This transceiver achieves a data rate up to 14Gbps at a distance of 0.6mm with an energy efficiency of 5.7pJ/bit. Moreover a self-heterodyne QPSK demonstration at 140GHz was performed with an EVM of 27% to 10Gbps

Abstract:

Thus the aim of this study was to evaluate, the effects of γ-oryzanol on the activation of Adipo-R1 and Adipo-R2 receptors and their role in improvement of renal function. It was used male Wistar rats (n = 60 animals), 21 days old, from Central Animal Laboratory of the Botucatu Medical School. The animals were be divided into six groups (n = 10 animals / group) to receive standard diet (G1), standard diet + γ-oryzanol (G2), high-carbohydrate diet (G3), high-carbohydrate diet at first and then with γ-oryzanol (G4), high-carbohydrate diet at first and then standard diet + γ-oryzanol (G5) and high carbohydrate diet + γ-oryzanol (G6) for 30 weeks. When detected proteinuria, the G4 group started receiving γ-oryzanol and the G5 group was the exchange of the feed. Obesity was characterized by adiposity index and co-morbidities: blood pressure, blood glucose, lipid and hormonal. In adipose tissue was analyzed the inflammatory profile for ELISA. Renal function was evaluated by proteinuria. It was analyzed the inflammatory status and oxidative stress in renal tissue. After the treatment, the animals presented a recovery of renal function, improvement of inflammation and oxidative stress. So, it is possible to conclude that γ-oryzanol was effective to recovery renal function associated to obesity.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the role of management accounting control practices in interorganisational alliances (IOAs) involving non-cash, ‘value in kind’ (VIK) transactions. The research involves a retrospective case study of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, which examines how the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, (SOCOG), managed and accounted for over $360 million of VIK. The case study is based on document study and interviews with individuals involved with this aspect of the 2000 Olympic Games. Following a review of previous research concerning both the life cycle (Das and Teng 2002, Moores and Yuen 2001) and the nature of formal accounting controls (Dekker 2004) in IOAs, two research questions are developed. Firstly, what kinds of formal accounting controls are required to manage VIK over the life cycle of an IOA? Secondly, how are extant accounting controls localised through the practice of managing VIK? This thesis finds the VIK resources are significant to the recipient parties and the IOAs in general. These VIK transactions, however, have been overlooked in previous accounting research with little significant recognition in prior studies or contemporary professional discourse. There is a lack of directly transferable expertise from traditional accounting practices in relation to the following aspects of the management and control of VIK – recognition, planning/budgeting, procedures/rules and performance monitoring. Formal control activities were all experimented with and improvised in order to deal with the challenges presented by the significance of VIK. A ‘drift’ in accounting technologies has been documented by this study (Andon et al 2007). Given the potential economic significance of VIK transactions, this suggests a need for both further research and professional discourse in this area to ensure sufficient visibility of, and management planning and control for, VIK transactions. Future research could include studies of: management and control of VIK in real time; provider organisations and the impact of VIK on their formal accounting controls; the role of social or informal controls and trust in negotiating and managing VIK; IOAs involving organisations that are operated as an indefinite going concern and, the recognition, valuation and attestation of VIK resources across a range of organisations.

Abstract:
" Dwelling at the Margins" is an exegesis of the short film Boundaries. Boundaries is a journey into the world of marginalised young people in inner urban Brisbane seen through the eyes of a the female main character with an eye for gentle beauty. The film forms the first part of the research and in the exegesis the ideas unfold that were behind the making of the film and that emerged further through its production and audience reception. The exegesis discussion centres on the major aspects of the film which are visual representations, female narratives and the themes of home and dwelling. Boundaries is a political film that looks from the edges of society. The exegesis seeks to explain the ideas behind this intention.

Abstract:
The following paperwork has as its goal to analyze the construction process of the meaning as an interaction game between the writer, text and reader, from the reading of the romance O Ano da Morte de Ricardo Reis, by José Saramago. The plot engages a dialog between the poetical universe of Fernando Pessoa, the fiction of Jorge Luis Borges and the Portuguese newspapers from 1936, in an inter-textual process where the reader, from his own repertory, interacts with the texts information, in order to build the meaning in a game of re-signification with the inter-texts that permeate the masterpiece. In this analysis there will be also an approach to other possibilities that the novel offers, such as the chess game between the character Ricardo Reis and his imminent death, and the reading game, which is present inside the romance, that by its own, persuades the reader to reflect on the relevance of his role as a producer of meaning in the face of the text.

Reflections and results of exploratory and theoretical research on current society and the need to structure itself in a technological world of information and communications are presented, since the lack of information imposed by competitiveness is based on the generation of new knowledge and the access to the use of the correct information. Living in modern society is a matter of survival. Since its formation, man seeks to develop knowledge to create mechanisms and better adapt to the environment. Communication, and subsequently writing, were certainly the biggest step towards a society structured in information and knowledge. In the corporate environment, information and knowledge are the slogans, they must be intrinsic in the management processes in order to develop information and media literacy as a competitive differential; that is, to provide access and use of information and resources in an intelligent way to build knowledge and apply it to reality. The use of media must act as an ally in this process of transforming knowledge into information and media literacy. The purpose of this exercise was to study the use of corporate games (serious games); these ones whose main characteristic is to train employees through a virtual environment that simulates reality and causes players to practice activities, without causing damages; as facilitators in this process, in which they will act as simulators in the decision - making stages in order to minimize failures, reduce time and cost. The survey involved the companies Oniria LDSoftware Ltda. and I9ação. It was carried out in two stages: 1 - research / bibliographic review of an exploratory nature that allowed the construction of a theoretical support framework and 2 - a descriptive case study supported by documentary research with institutional documents and company websites, observation in local and interviews with managers. The results showed that corporate digital games not only contribute to the development of information and media literacy, but also to other skills and abilities important to the management process. It has also been shown that corporate digital games are effective media tools to train and improve information and media literacy and all others involved in corporate environments, bringing competitiveness to the business environment where they are used.

Abstract:
Red deer (Cervus elaphus) is one of at least 31 herbivorous exotic mammals existing in New Zealand. All of these species have the potential to affect environmentral and production values. Reducing their impacts on their values, strengthening effective managements are important issues to a variety of agencies within New Zealand including the Department of Conservation (DOC), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), local and regional governments. This research studied animal movement pattern and habitat use of 2 GPScollared red deer in the Canterbury high country and found (1) deer movement was affected by climatic variables such as rainfall and temperature, which had positive or negative effect on it, and had seasonal variation; (2) deer had dominant landcover use categories, depending on climate, season, and individual characteristics (3) deer had different movement patterns in terms of hourly distances. The purpose of the study is to draw accurate inferences from spatially explicit data for biosecurity managers and policy-makers through: (1) using global positioning system (GPS) as a tool to elucidate the application of GPS on red deer in wildlife management; (2) Animal Movement Analysis Arc View® 3.2 Extension under Arc View® Geographic Information System (GIS); (3) Animal movement analysis which used Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) to show how the movement of red deer was affected by different periods of time, seasons months and climatic variables (for example, rainfall and temperature).

Abstract:
We consider a roaming-based infrastructure sharing system, where multiple operators share their radio access in a multi-operator environment. Indeed, when the home operator of a user is unable to satisfy its constraints, because of lack of resources or QoS, a transaction event is triggered. It consists in transferring the considered user to another operator in order to access the service. Moreover, when there are more than two operators sharing their access, the user transfer process includes an access selection decision in order to choose the best operator for service. Furthermore, when a user is transferred, its home operator must pay some transaction cost as cooperation fees for the new service operator. This transaction is seamless to the user. Therefore, the inter-operators sharing agreement set for cooperation must include three important issues: the selection decision algorithm, the transaction cost pricing scenario, and the percentage of resources shared by each operator. In the first part, we introduce our selection decision algorithm in a multi-operator environment, NP-BPA (Nearest Performance and Best Profit Algorithm). It is based on a multi-criteria cost function which groups the different parameters that enable a satisfying selection decision, for the operators and users. In the second part, we study the transaction cost. We find rational that an operator sets its transaction cost as a function of its service price. We consider a sharing system of three partners, interacting to decide the best transaction cost. Taking into account that the service of a guest user may affect the probability of acceptance of a client, an operator looks for preserving the expected revenue from its client. Therefore, we propose the first pricing scenario, ACAG (As Client As Guest) that aims to set the transaction cost of an operator equal to its service price. However, every operator seeks to maximize its revenue; therefore it is expected to set a higher transaction cost. How much higher? This must respect the sharing agreement between different partners and the service prices they adopt. To be optimistic, we propose a second pricing scenario MIWC (Max In When Cooperating). With this scenario all partners agree to have a transaction cost equal to the highest service price announced in the system. But, this scenario may cause losses in some cases where an operator setting a low service price performs a lot of transactions. To be fair, we propose a third pricing scenario MCWC (Min Cost When Cooperating). With this scenario all partners agree to have a transaction cost equal to the lowest service price announced in the system. In order to decide the best pricing scenario to adopt in the sharing system, a two stage Stackelberg game, TPA (Transaction Pricing and Access Selection) game, is formulated. In this game, the operators are the players; the service operators are the leaders and the home operator of a transferred user is a follower. In the third part, we consider a three operator sharing system with hybrid access mode. In this system partners decide to share a restricted amount of their capacity. We show how the sharing factor affects the blocking rates and affect the global profits. Further, the achieved profit does not depend only on the sharing factor, but also on the adopted pricing scenario. Therefore an economic framework based on game theoretical analysis is proposed. It models the interaction between the sharing system operators for resource sharing and pricing, in addition to the access selection. A sequential game is formulated, where the players are the operators. In the first stage, the sharing partners decide the proportion of resources they will share and the transaction pricing scenario in order to maximize their own profits. In the second stage, the home operator of a transferred user selects the suitable service operator. A bi-level optimization problem is solved and equilibrium is found

Abstract:
The exponential growth in the number of communications devices has set out new ambitious targets to meet the ever-increasing demand for user capacity in emerging wireless systems. However, the inherent impairments of communication channels in cellular systems pose constant challenges to meet the envisioned targets. High spectral reuse efficiency was adopted as a solution to higher data rates. Despite its benefits, high spectral reuse leads to increased interference over the network, which degrades performances of mobile users with bad channel quality. To face this added interfence, OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is used for the new 4th generation network. Thanks to its orthogonality OFDM eliminates the intra-cellular interference, but when the same resources are used in two adjacents cells, the inter-cell interference becomes severe. To get rid of the latter, several methods for Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (ICIC) have been proposed. ICIC allows coordinated radio resources management between multiple cells. The eNodeBs can share resource usage information and interference levels over the X2 interface through LTE-normalized messages. Non-cooperative game theory was largely applied were eNodeBs selfishly selects resource blocks (RBs) in order to minimize interference. In this thesis, we stress on ICIC for the downlink of a cellular OFDMA system in the context of the SOAPS (Spectrum Opportunistic Access in Public Safety) project. This project focuses on the improvement of frequency resource scheduling for Broadband Services provision by PMR (Private Mobile Radio) systems using LTE technologies. We addressed this problem with four different solutions based on Non-cooperative game theory, three algorithms are devoted to RB selection in order to manage the interference, while the last one is a power control scheme with power economy and enhanced system performances

Abstract:
Based on the idea that the subsidiaries of a company are able to call into question the decisions of senior management (the parent company), the holistic approach developed in this study assumes that an organization can be a “being”, implying thereby that the information in its possession is external to the individuals who compose it. This raises the question of whether it is conceivable to ignore the individual in such a relationship of domination. This thesis proposes a model based on the results which show the difficult exclusion of the individual in a meta-organizational context (in which members would be organizations and not individuals). Along these same lines, the organization’s human dynamics are at the heart of this research: there exists by and through the individual a dynamic resulting from actual activity that allows the organization to live by itself, while also allowing prescribe to evolve. Although the results show that the organization is not a dead and strengthless object, and it has the opportunity to live by itself, it is the individuals who —through their conditional commitments— allow the separate existence of an organizational structure’s intra-consciousness, which imposes rights and obligations. In this perspective, the proposed model aims to draw the structures of abstract social reality (referred as Entity X in this study) by showing the strengths and organizational constraints that weigh on individual members, while raising the human capacity to emerge from the structures prescribed by the sensemaking of links and transversal structures for cooperation that originate from the actual activity

The power generate by modern silicon germanium (SiGe) heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) can produce large thermal gradients across the silicon substrate. The device opering temperature modifies model parameters and can significantly affect circuit operation. This work characterizes and models self-heating and thermal coupling in SiGe HBTs. The self-heating effect is evaluated with low frequency and pulsed measurements. A novel pulse measurement system is presented that allows isothermal DC and RF measurements with 100ns pulses. Electrothermal intra- and inter-device feedback is extensively studied and the impact on the performance of two analog circuits is evaluated. Novel test structures are designed and fabricated to measure thermal coupling between single transistors (inter-device) as well as between the emitter stripes of a multi-finger transistor (intra-device). Thermal coupling factors are extracted from measurements and from 3D thermal simulations. Thermally coupled simulations of a ring oscillator (RO) with 218 transistors and of a 60GHz power amplifier (PA) are carried out. Current mode logic (CML) ROs are designed and measured. Layout optimizations lead to record gate delay of 1.65ps. The thermal performance of a 60GHz power amplifier is compared when realized with a multi-transistor array (MTA) and with a multi-finger trasistor (MFT). Finally, perspectives of this work within a CAD based circuit design environment are discussed

Pole vault is the most complicated and technique-needed sport in the track and field. Players have to concentrate on single technical instruction, and abnormally making mistakes may lose the game. Pole vault usually takes longer time. Players are suffering from nervous pressure and torture by waiting for another upgrading and trials. Because of these difficulties, players could not perform well as usual. This research is focused on Yang, the national representative coach. Coach Yang cultivates many outstanding players including some record holders. This study using observation and interview with coach Yang, analyzes the outer games and inner games of a pole vault coach. In this case, coach Yang, as well as a player, knowing that a good player should combine the outer techniques with inner mental skills at the same time, achieves the best performance. Coach Yang help players conquer the negative influence of thinking about the outside techniques, which often lead players to distracting in the game. By using inner mental skills: feeling, awareness, self-trust, and relaxed concentration help players to overcome the pressure, fear, and self-doubt. Players combining both outer and inner field is able to success beyond oneself limit.

IEEE 802.22 is the first cognitive-radio-based wireless communication standard. We propose a spectrum transaction scheme for dynamic resource renting and offering (DRRO) and adaptive on demand channel contention (AODCC) in IEEE 802.22 inter-BS coexistence mechanismto achieve efficient and fair spectrum sharing. Game theory is applied to formulate and analyze the proposed spectrum sharing algorithm. We first analyze the simplest two-basestation (BS) game through a graphical method to gain insights for the solution. Then, the Nash Equilibrium of the n-BS game is derived and the utility profile at the Nash equilibrium is shown to be unique. We prove several desirable properties, including allocative efficiency, Pareto optimality, weighted max-min fairness, and weighted proportional fairness, are attained at the Nash equilibrium. Lastly, we design a strategy-proof spectrum allocation mechanism based on the proposed spectrum sharing algorithm so that truthful strategies optimize each BS''s performance.

Abstract:
Every year, technology keeps expanding and progressing, which leads to new ideas and new uses of technology in all kinds of areas, and education is no exception. The concept of using games as a mean of education is old, however, due to the recent advances of technology and the creation of videogames, the concept became more popular. With benefits ranging from a deeper understand-ing of the subject taught in the game, to various other skills obtained passively from playing games, educational games are an idea that should be focused on and developed further. Students spend a very big portion of their free time interacting with their phones. Mobile games are a great way to pass the time with little effort and are enjoyable for being simple and fun. However, most of the mobile games have no real educational purpose. Meanwhile, most students struggle with some school subjects and end up losing the motivation to study, which leads to them failing classes or losing important knowledge. Therefore, we decided to create a game that would appeal to them, while also helping them obtain or solidify their math knowledge. We created the game in a way that takes the focus from the educational as-pects, using a unique story, characters and challenges that keep the player enter-tained. With math questions being answered in different ways like leaning the phone one way or another to make the character reach the right answer, drawing the answer to a question on the screen with a finger like a magic spell, or even having a math duel with an evil wizard, the player can have fun while answering them. To help the player learn from their mistakes the game also offers, after they answer a question, a small explanation of what the right answer was and why. The game was found to have a positive effect on the students, creating inter-est and improving their knowledge, and we were able to create a few guidelines to help increase the success of future educational games.

A systematic profit-allocation methodology has been developed in this study on the basis of game theory for realistic total-site indirect heat integration. The two types of intermediate fluid are used to exchange the inter-plant heat are hot oil and steam/cooling water. These two indirect heat integration methodologies are modified from the traditional sequential heat integration methodology to the four consecutive design steps. Four consecutive design steps are proposed in this work to determine (1) the minimum total utility cost, (2) the fairest trading prices of all inter-plant heat flows under the constraints of Nash equilibrium and the negotiation power and also the lower bounds determined in step 1, (3) the minimum number of heat-transfer units and the corresponding matches under the constraints of inter-plant heat-flow patterns determined in step 2, and (4) the best total-site heat exchanger network under the constraints of optimal matches determined in step 3. Compare to the direct heat integration methodology and the indirect heat integration methodology proposed in this study, the former can save more on utility cost saving but save less on capital cost saving since the former can offer the more opportunities of inter-plant hear exchange and achieve the total energy saving but the HEN is relatively complicated. Consequently, these two indirect heat can improve inter-plant feasibility through the more safe and simple HEN and fair profit based on game theory.

The evolution of semiconductor technology has been progressed since Moore’s Law proposed in 1964. Dimension scaling is always the challenge for each technology node to reduce producing cost. With the continuous scaling of devices, short-channel effects are more and more severe in limiting the performance enhancement. Multi-gate struc-tures, which enhance the gate control on short-channel effects and optimize the electri-cal characteristics, can overcome the limitation; FinFET is generally applied for ad-vanced semiconductor fabrications. However, for sub-5 nm technology node, FinFETs can not offer the enough gate control, resulting in worse short-channel effects. On the other hand, GAA MOSFETs with the superior gate control of channel electrostatic are considered as a possible extension for the following technology nodes. Nevertheless, they increase the undesirable parasitic capacitances. In this thesis, an analytical model is used to calculate the parasitic capacitances caused by GAA MOSFETs. Next, the optimization by inner spacer is presented to re-duce the additional parasitic capacitances. Such methodology helps us to ensure that the improvement is effective and feasible. Then we use Synopsys TCAD to do the process simulations. GAA MOSFETs are processed with SiGe epitaxy. Electrical characteristic comparison for the devices with and without inner spacers is discussed. 5nm technology node in ITRS roadmap is the specification we adopt in this thesis. Different spacer lengths are the main topic; the longer spacers extend the effective channel length and improve short-channel effects. Furthermore, the future design, a new integration scheme featuring bulk Si-base and cost-effective fabrication, is proposed. To overcome the drawback of GAA MOSFETs compared to FinFET: the increase of parasitic capacitances, inner spacers are adopted in fabrication. The proposed process is feasible and promising in the future based on our preliminary data.

With the increasing awareness of global carbon emissions, lowering the amount of greenhouse gases becomes an important issue faced by most countries in general. Since its first introduction, Kyoto Protocol gave no significant contributions in reducing emissions. This caused UNFCCC to sign the Paris Agreement in 2015, where every participating country is bound to actively reduce the amount of emissions in order to keep global temperature rise below 2℃. Under the effect of carbon reduction policy, customers will not only consider the product price but also will consider the amount of carbon emissions to fabricate the product. Carbon emission from a product depends on the level of the component. High level component usually emits lower carbon and saves more energy in its fabrication process but increasing its price. Therefore, in the competitiveness among companies, carbon emission has become an important factor besides product price. In reducing carbon emissions, companies need to limit their emissions based on the government policies, carbon prices, production costs, demand trends and carbon reduction strategies from competitors. Companies can choose some strategies to effectively reduce the carbon emissions while also enhance their competitiveness by: investing in energy efficient and high capacity equipment, planning the capacity allocation, finding suitable timing for carbon trading, pricing and selecting component levels. This paper utilizes dynamic programming and game theory to formulate the model which helps the companies to choose the most optimum strategy in maximizing the total profit. At first, dynamic programming simulates the profit of each scenario, and later game theory is applied to obtain Nash equilibrium values for the strategies from both companies and their competitors. Through given numerical examples, we analyze the obtained results, managerial implications, and find out the trade-off between economic and environmental sustainability.

The “edge effect” means that edge of oxide would be abnormal after performing high temperature process, and the efficiency of device will degrade. Edge effect on inter-poly dielectric (IPD) layer of floating gate flash memory occurs when re-oxidation restores the damage of edge of IPD layer which is due to defining gate pattern of floating gate flash memory, re-oxidation would lead to thickening of oxide edge, and program speed of memory will become lower. The contribution of this thesis is to propose a model which can analyze edge effect on inter-poly dielectric (IPD) layer of floating gate flash memory and compare them to the edge effect on tunneling oxide. Simulation by MEDICI and proposed model shows that when IPD edge thickens 6nm, memory window reduces 0.3-0.9V; when tunneling oxide edge thickens 2nm, memory window reduces 0.1-2.2V, it shows that program speed variation due to edge effect on tunneling oxide is larger than on IPD layer. Besides, there are two shapes of edge in proposed model: linear edge and parabolic edge. When IPD edge thickens 6nm and edge encroachment is not overlapped, we adopt linear edge to analyze variation of program speed. We find that memory window is 0.2V smaller than the result which is analyzed by parabolic edge, so variation of program speed of linear edge is larger than of parabolic edge when edge encroachment is not overlapped. Thinner edge can increase program speed. The simulation shows that memory window increases 0.5-0.8V when thickness of IPD edge reduces 4nm, but too thinner edge on IPD layer could result in program saturation.

When a transgression occurs, the primary reaction is to inflict harm on the perpetrator to reestablish balance Another possible reaction is the compensation of the victim. We can consider the existence of two types of justice: retributive and restorative This study intended to evaluate the reaction of witnesses to situations of iniquity, depending on the intensity of the injustice and the social identity of the perpetrator and the victim. 156 college students participated in a modified version of the Third-Party Punishment Game The task of the participants was to decide how many points they would assign to the Receptor (compensation) or withdraw from the Dictator (punishment). It was found that the participants are sensitive to the inequity of situations and seek to resolve the injustice by choosing the two types of justice, regardless of the group to which the victim and the offender belong. Participants were sensitive to the intergroup relations when the division was fair and manifested predictable effects: ingroup favoritism and black sheep effect. There seems to be a tendency for the restoration of equity in situations of inequity that overlaps the impact of intergroup relations.

Abstract:
Sustainable agriculture is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The pathways to sustainable agriculture consist of successive decisions for optimization that are often a matter of negotiation as resources are shared at all levels. This work essentially comprises three research projects with novel inter- and transdisciplinary methods to better understand and optimize agricultural water management under water scarcity conditions. In the first project, climate variability in the US Corn Belt was analyzed with a focus on deficit irrigation to find the optimal irrigation strategies for possible future changes. Two optimization methods for deficit irrigation showed positive water savings and yield increases in the predicted water scarcity scenarios. In the second project, a serious board game was developed and game sessions were carried out to simulate the complex decision space of actors in irrigated agriculture under climate and groundwater variability. The aim of the game was to understand how decisions are made by actors by observing the course of the game and linking these results to common behavioral theories implemented in socio-ecological models. In the third project, two frameworks based on innovation theories and agro-social-hydrological networks were developed and tested using agent-based models. In the first framework, centralized and decentralized irrigation management in Kansas US was compared to observe the development of collective action and the innovation diffusion of sustainable irrigation strategies. The second framework analyzed different decision processes to perform a sensitivity analysis of innovation implementation, groundwater abstraction and saline water intrusion in the Al Batinah region in Oman. Both frameworks allowed the evaluation of diverse behavior theories and decision-making parameters to find the optimal irrigation management and the impact of diverse socio-ecological policies. Inter- and Trans-disciplinary simulations of the interactions between human decisions and water systems, like the ones presented in here, improve the understanding of irrigation systems as anthropogenic landscapes in socio-economic and ecological contexts. The joint application of statistical and participatory approaches enables different but complementary perspectives that allow for a multidimensional analysis of irrigation strategies and water resources management.:Contents Declaration of Independent Work i Declaration of Conformity iii List of Publications v Acknowledgments ix Abstract xi Zusammenfassung xiii Contents xv List of Figures xvii List of Tables xix List of Abbreviations xxi 1. The objective of this dissertation is to investigate the feasibility of continued scaling for nanoscale floating gate NAND flash memory by means of integration optimization and novel process application. The analysis of anomalous tunnel oxide re-growth has been clarified and has obtained good reliability from shallow trench isolation modification. The functionality of interpoly dielectric layer constrained by coupling ratio reduction is enhanced using plasma nitridation method; simultaneously, aluminum oxide is evaluated as candidate for future interpoly dielectric material. The size effect of word line is mitigated by using process flow design, and then the low sheet resistance is proposed for achieving fast programming speed. The bit line contact with high aspect ratio structure suffered from severe junction leakage owing to silicon substrate loss; a novel selective epitaxial silicon growth technology is proposed as salicide sacrifice layer for junction leakage current reduction. To incorporate our process modification with novel technologies, the floating gate NAND can be easily extend to sub- 50 nm generation. First of all, the advanced high-density plasma (HDP) method for self-aligned shallow trench isolation (SA-STI) suffers from existed moisture during trench gap filling, and then induces abnormal tunneling oxide re-growth; consequently, it probably exhibits poor tunnel oxide qualities. The optimal STI integrated process is proposed to mitigate moisture encroachment of tunnel oxide. Secondly, for nano-scaling dimension of memory cell, coupling capability between control gate and floating gate is gradually degraded, thus program / erase speed both face critical challenge; plasma nitridation of interpoly dielectric are proposed to enhance gate’s coupling and program / erase speed. Besides, solutions of retention problem by oxidation process of bottom oxide are provided. To evaluate higher dielectric constant material as future IPD candidate, SiO2-Al2O3-SiO2 (OAO) stacked film instead of conventional IPD material is studied for thermal resistance, lower current leakage and less electron trap. Thirdly, sheet resistance (Rs) reduction of WSix gate as well as integrated gate process optimization is explored in detail for WSix extrusion investigation and operation speed improvement. Consequently, the selective epitaxial growth silicon (SEG) technique is evaluated to reduce junction leakage for bit line contact without sacrificing contact resistance. To adopt our studying results, the conventional floating fate NAND flash structure is capable of extending to 50 nm node and beyond.
