One line sees Omar as a hedonist and nihilist; the other as a mystic or Sufi. A pencil is a graphite stick and clay combination, sometimes with a colour pigment, encased mostly in a wooden cylindrical container. The metal lead is poisonous and it does not make such good marks as graphite. That is why people started to use graphite instead of lead. The jacket of a pencil is usually made of wood.

A deconstructive reading of British (1997-2006) and EU (1999- 2004) foreign policy, both of which make claims to ethics, reveals how the issue is beset by internal contradictions, paradoxes and aporias.
