A instalação ARS JOKER é uma obra intermédia interativa, que mescla Pintura e Arte Digital, configurando um espaço alegórico de exibição, criado para envolver o visitante, articulando a vivência da temática: o sujeito como representação. O ambiente tem telas pendentes do teto, inclinadas diagonalmente, conformando um espaço labiríntico, reunindo pinturas de figuras duplicadas, que instigam à exploração, inserindo o visitante em um percurso. Uma das telas exibe imagens projetadas, e, juntamente a outros periféricos, se liga a um programa de computador, que visa captar a imagem do visitante e propor um jogo interativo com essa imagem, perpetuando a coleção e fluxo de imagens propostos pela exibição e permitindo ao visitante construir significados a partir da experiência; ABSTRACT: The ARS JOKER installation is an interative intermedia work that mixes Painting and Digital Art, setting an allegorical exhibition space, created for engaging the visitor, articulating the experimentation of the theme: the subject as representation. The environment has screens hanging from the roof, sloping diagonally, forming a labyrinthine space, including paintings of duplicate figures, which lead to curiosity, inserting the visitor into a route. One of the screens displays projected images, that jointly with other periferics is connected to a computer program which aims to capture the image of the visitor, proposing an interactive game with this image, adding to the collection and flow of images proposed by the show, and allowing the visitor to construct meanings from his own experience.

Furthermore, the developer can concentrate in the functional requirements of the software. However, there are many resistance in adopting this software development approach. The main reason is the scarcity of adequate, easy to use, and useful tools. Developers typically write code and test it. These tests usually consist of executing the program and checking its output against its requirements. This, however, is not always an exhaustive discipline. On the other side, using formal methods one might be able to investigate the system s properties further. Unfortunately, specification languages do not always have tools like animators or simulators, and sometimes there are no friendly Graphical User Interfaces. On the other hand, specification languages usually have a compiler which normally generates a Labeled Transition System (LTS). This work proposes an application that provides graphical animation for formal specifications using the LTS as input. The application initially supports the languages B, CSP, and Z. However, using a LTS in a specified XML format, it is possible to animate further languages. Additionally, the tool provides traces visualization, the choices the user did, in a graphical tree. The intention is to improve the comprehension of a specification by providing information about errors and animating it, as the developers do for programming languages, such as Java and C++.<br>Usando m?todos formais, o desenvolvedor pode aumentar a confiabilidade e corretude do software. Al?m disso, o desenvolvedor pode concentrar-se mais nos requisitos funcionais. Por?m h? muita resist?ncia em se adotar essa abordagem de desenvolvimento de software. Abstract:
The new “Joker” movie, directed by Todd Phillips, was released in 2019 and brought a range of fervent and controversial discussion both in critics and audiences. Nevertheless, the “Joker” persona is tightly associated with comics and the superhero movie genre, and usually depicted in a particular way. However, the new movie differs in vital points. This study aims to explore the differences that lie between the “Joker”, and his depiction in the superhero genre. In order to investigate this inquiry, we conducted an exploratory research, and used latent content analysis. From our results, we extrapolate that the new movie constructs a more humane and approachable image of the “Joker”, as opposed to the “nameless” and “cold-blooded” villain. Simultaneously, we concluded that the movie adopts a more realistic and less entertaining approach towards violence, a prominent characteristic in superhero movies

Joaquin Phoenix gestaltning av karaktären Arthur Fleck i filmen Joker (Todd Phillips, 2019) prisades med en Oscar för bästa huvudroll. Filmen är en ursprungshistoria om den klassiska antagonisten till Batman och belyser de bakomliggande faktorer som bidrar till Arthur Flecks resa från offer till våldsverkare. Uppsatsen belyser utanförskap och hur det är att leva i samhällets periferi på grund av, men inte begränsat av, mental ohälsa, stigmatisering och normavvikande beteende. Den belyser också individens förhållande till maskulinitet och de förväntningar samhället har på denne i hur man skall agera och reagera. Todd Phillips målar upp en dystopisk tillvaro där staden Gotham är lika kylig och kall som dess palett, där våld är en del av vardagen och anses vara ett universalverktyg för att lösa diverse konflikter. Arthur är en skör individ som tvingas in i en våldsspiral (av flertalet olika anledningar) som till slut förgör honom, i hans ställe träder den våldsbejakande nihilisten fram: Jokern.

The goal of this thesis is to explore the way heterosexism and homophobia are present in the coding that has created an implied and monstrous queer identity for the Joker, present in many versions of the character over the past forty years. Through close readings of several of the Joker’s most iconic appearances, queer theory texts, and analytical essays on pop culture, this paper will analyze the use of queer signifiers present in the comics and the way that these portrayals of the Joker are rife with harmful and heterocentric perceptions of what comic creators have seen as necessary signifiers for queerness. Additionally, I will be using knowledge gleaned from my own preexisting work with fan and cultural studies in order to talk about the way that this portrayal of the Joker has been developed within fandom/fan communities and how it is continually replicated in superhero media.

Sammanfattning I stora delar av världen används forumteater för att motverka förtryck. När forumteater spelas har jokern en nyckelroll. Undersökningens syfte är att ta reda på vad de i studien ingående jokrarna uppfattar som jokring och hur de uppfattar jokring samt att skapa beskrivningskategorier för dessa uppfattningar. Frågeställningen är: Hur beskriver jokrar jokring? I undersökningen har korta intervjuer med 19 jokrar analyserats. Jokrarna kommer från 11 länder. Intervjuerna är hämtade från den internationella hemsidan för Teater för förtryckta. Metoden i undersökningen är huvudsakligen fenomenografisk. Resultat: Jokring är att leda forumteaterprocessen med dialogen i centrum. Fyra uppfattningar av aspekter hos jokerns roll har framkommit, här beskrivna metaforiskt: Jokern som etiker/filosof, jokern som samhällsförändrare, jokern som hantverkare och jokern som psykolog. Jokern stimulerar med hjälp av forumteatern till dialog. Jokrarna i undersökningen har uppfattningen att dialogen utgör både medel och mål med jokring och med forumteater. Dialogen uppfattas ske med olika medel, olika riktning och med olika föresatser.  Den sker visuellt, med tal och i handling. Den har sitt fokus, sin riktning, gentemot individerna i publiken, mot publiken som grupp och/eller mot den samhällsgrupp som publiken antas komma ifrån. Föresatsen med jokerns dialog är att stödja och/eller utmana. Avsikten med undersökningen har varit att få ökad kunskap om jokring och att skapa underlag för fortsatt arbete för ökad kunskap om jokring.

Abstract:
In my essay, I illuminate evil from the perspective of whether we can explain evil deeds through the perpetrator's narrative. As an object for my study, I have chosen a popular culture perspective - the character The Joker - which has been portrayed several times. The purpose of the essay is to study if we understand and can come to terms with evil deeds if we also know the perpetrator's narrative. The starting point for this reasoning is the question of whether evil deeds can always be defined as evil? I have limited my thesis to be based on theories based on traditional and historical research in the field of evil. The material I have used for my analysis is limited to the shape of The Joker in the script of the films The Dark Knight and The Joker. Methodologically, the essay is based on textual idea analysis - around evil and myths.  Out of the scripts of The Joker and The Dark Knight I have developed a hypothesis which I finally discuss the reasonableness and test logically. Theoretically, I have based my study on Lars Svendsen's analysis of evil, John Martin Fischer's analysis of the meaning of the narrative and Claudia Card's discussion of grey areas. Based on these, I have analysed, discussed and argued to test my hypothesis and answer the question of the essay: Is The Joker's narrative an explanation for his evil deeds? The study's method and analysis have generated a result that shows that this is not the case. The Joker has made his own free choices that have made him who he is and what he does. His narrative is not an explanation for his demonic evil deeds.

The cruelty of this character, understood as the wish to cause pain and suffering to another, has his own style in his lewd speech, in the following of an aesthetic of horror by the image-synthesis of his red rictus shaped mouth, as well as a plot that stages rituals of exhibitionism and sadism, in which the Joker's victims are offered in honor to Batman. This research contributes to the study of the villain in superhero genre comics, a character who, among clashes and truces with the hero, creates a field of tension that moves a suspenseful narrative of action and twists with an appeasing ending that invites the reader to the next adventure of the series. Cruelty is the Joker’s passion that wants to destabilize and corrupt the hero, composing the dynamics of a dense, ambiguous and sinister relationship between Batman and him. The aim of this research lies in this: what makes the Joker’s cruelty so outstanding in his relationship with Batman? By which means this cruelty determines and qualifies the Joker criminal acts, modifying his bound with the hero over the comics? The goal is to delimit the Joker’s imponderable of cruelty through its figurations that make him the quintessential villain in Batman stories. A two-way theoretical foundation was used: the via governed by image, professed by Thierry Groensteen, examining the complex system of narrative in which the drawing and the words are networked, and the psychoanalytical via in the Lacan’s trait unaire and perversion concepts, with the support of the Joker character’s approach to the literary figure of the sadean libertine<br>Esta pesquisa analisa as figurações da crueldade do Coringa nos quadrinhos de Batman: A Piada Mortal (Batman: The Killing Joke, 1988). A crueldade desse personagem, entendida como a vontade de causar dor e sofrimento ao outro, tem estilo próprio na sua fala devassa, seguindo uma estética do horror na imagem-síntese da sua boca vermelha em forma de ricto, bem como um enredo em que se encenam rituais de exibicionismo e sadismo, nos quais as vítimas do Coringa são oferecidas em louvor a Batman. Esta pesquisa contribui para o estudo do vilão nos quadrinhos do gênero super-herói, personagem que, em confrontos e tréguas com o herói, cria um campo de tensão que movimenta uma narrativa cheia de suspense, ação e de reviravoltas, com um desfecho apaziguador que convida o leitor a uma próxima aventura da série. A crueldade é a paixão do Coringa que quer desestabilizar e corromper o herói, compondo a dinâmica da relação densa, ambígua e sinistra entre ele e Batman. A questão da presente pesquisa reside nisto: o que torna a crueldade do Coringa tão marcante na relação deste com Batman? Por quais vias a crueldade determina e qualifica os atos criminosos do Coringa, modificando o vínculo dele com o herói ao longo destes quadrinhos? O objetivo é delimitar o imponderável da crueldade do Coringa por meio de suas figurações, que o tornam o vilão por excelência nas histórias de Batman. Utilizamos duas vias de fundamentação teórica: a via regida pela imagem, preconizada por Thierry Groensteen, examinando o sistema complexo da narrativa em que o desenho e a palavra funcionam em rede; e a via psicanalítica, no tocante aos conceitos lacanianos de traço unário e de perversão, com apoio da aproximação do personagem Coringa à figura literária do libertino sadeano

Abstract:
Martin Scorsese expressed dissatisfaction stating that superhero movies lacks uniqueness and emotional and psychological depth. In his opinion, these movies depict spectacle rather than character. Scorsese is not alone in his view - this has been a general opinion among film critics for decades. Justin Wyatt examines the recipe for commercial success in his book High concept: Movies and marketing in Hollywood from 1994. Film theorist Kristin Thompson however, denounces the idea that High Concept or post-classicism changes structures in narrative. This thesis examines visual style and intertextuality in three films released in 2019: Avengers: Endgame, Hellboy and Joker. Are there similarities and/or differences in relation to Wyatt’s theories? All three movies use style and intertextuality to tell their stories and they all have excess scenes to please the audience visually. However, they still use classic Hollywood narrative with three acts and cause-and-effect storylines.

It was systematized in the 1970s and it approaches social and psychological opressions on the scene so that they are discussed and restaged by the public. The mediator between the forum-scene and the public is the joker. This work proposes an investigation between the Forum Theater joker’s language and the buffoon. The buffoon is a clown with origins in the medieval times that uses comicality mainly through grotesque body gestures and ironic speech. This research has as primordial objective to investigate political and theatrical buffoon’s characteristics being in Forum Theater’s joker in order to provoque the critical eye. To that end, it was accomplished a historical rescue of the Forum Theater, of the joker and of the buffoon by means of books and videos that bring concepts and practices about them; it was written about the Victor Turner’s social drama bearing in mind one of the research’s development axes: the study of the Cultural Performances and their relations with the Theater of the Oppressed; and it was effected an analysis of videos, found on the internet, about Forum Theater’s plays presented in the brazilian’s state capitals. The selected videos’ analysis was done parting from two categories, they are: Forum theater and jokering; and buffoon aspects. The analyis’ categories were guided through three questions: In what way the Forum Theater has been presenting regarding the criticality matters? Is there criticality in the spect-actors’ fruition through the jokering? Can the buffoons’ aspects contribute to the Forum Theater’s joker formation? The mainly consideration obtained in this investigation shows that part of the studied Forum Theater plays are politically emptied and don’t seek the spect-actor’s critical eye. Therefore is fundamental that the joker builds his/her acting game by the improvisational quality that is one of the atributes of the buffoon’s activities, in this way is going to be possible having criticality in the spect-actors’ fruition.<br>O Teatro Fórum é uma das modalidades mais difundidas do Teatro do Oprimido. Ele foi sistematizado nos anos de 1970 e aborda em cena opressões sociais e psicológicas para que sejam discutidas e reencenadas pelo público. O mediador entre a cena-fórum e o público é o curinga. Este trabalho propõe uma investigação entre a linguagem do curinga do Teatro Fórum e do bufão. O bufão é um palhaço com origem nos tempos medievais que faz uso da comicidade, principalmente, através de gestos corporais grotescos e falas irônicas. A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo primordial investigar características do bufão presentes no curinga do Teatro Fórum de modo que o olhar crítico do público seja provocado. Para isso, foi realizado um resgate histórico do Teatro Fórum, do curinga e do bufão por meio de livros e vídeos que trazem conceitos e práticas sobre eles; foi escrito sobre o drama social de Victor Turner, tendo em vista um dos eixos de desenvolvimento da pesquisa que é o estudo das Performances Culturais e suas relações com o Teatro do Oprimido; e se realizou uma análise de vídeos, encontrados na internet, de peças de Teatro Fórum apresentadas em capitais brasileiras. A análise dos vídeos selecionados foi feita a partir de duas categorias, são elas: Teatro Fórum e curingagem, e aspectos bufonescos. As categorias para a análise foram guiadas por três perguntas: De que forma o Teatro Fórum vem se apresentando no que tange as questões da criticidade? Há criticidade na fruição dos espect-atores através da curingagem? Os aspectos bufonescos podem contribuir para a formação do curinga do Teatro Fórum? A principal consideração obtida nesta investigação mostra que parte das peças de Teatro Fórum estudadas estão esvaziadas politicamente e não buscam o olhar crítico dos espect-atores. Portanto, é fundamental que o curinga construa o jogo de sua atuação pela qualidade improvisacional, que é um dos atributos das atividades do bufão, dessa forma poderá haver criticidade na fruição dos espect-atores.

Abstract:
Humour can be seen as trivial, peripheral and even an affront to some people in relation to the solemn business of social work. This thesis makes an original contribution to social work practice and thought, by exploring the relationship between jokes, humour and social work. Jokes are worthy data in themselves to study, and humour is intrinsic to social life. This thesis draws on the extensive body of literature on humour and the history of joke telling. Neither have been studied together in relation to social work. Exposing contradictions in complex social phenomena has a track record as a creative way of knowing. The methodological approach taken reflects the qualitative nature of humour and jokes, and the analysis employed combined psychoanalytic and thematic approaches, in which “thematized meanings” were found across data sets. Social work and social workers occupy a contradictory position in society. The findings here indicate that humour and jokes provide a transitional space which helps social workers manage the contradictions and ambivalences of their work. The jokes made about social workers reflect a profession under attack, and the humour and jokes made by social workers reveal the desire to convey their humanity and to create relationships. Importantly my research shows that whilst there is a danger in humour being used unethically, humour can help social workers attach to their teams and their colleagues, and help build resilience, as a culture of humour within teams creates a nurturing environment, with social workers who will be more likely to stay in the job. Importantly as well humour can help facilitate relationships with service users, and become a tool for service users and social workers to bond.

In order to do that, within the domain of psychoanalytic semiotics and fundamentally supported by the semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce, I intend to analyze the construction and representation of the character throughout its history in different media formats. Through a semiotic analysis of its first appearance in a comic book his fundamental characteristics will be extracted. Next, the social, cultural and historical contexts will be analyzed, with emphasis on two specific moments (1940-1954 and 1973-2008), and always with an intention to establish relationships between the life journey and the reformulations suffered by The Joker. Finally, the psychoanalytic theories of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan will serve as basis for a study on perversion and on how its presence in current days' social link may be articulated with the Joker's persistence and ubiquity in the media, as well as with its relevance to the consumer audience of cultural products<br>Esta pesquisa é uma investigação sobre a presença de personagens perversos na cultura de massa, tendo como recorte o vilão Coringa, nêmese do super-herói Batman. Para tanto, na alçada da semiótica psicanalítica e apoiado fundamentalmente na semiótica de Charles Sanders Peirce, pretende-se analisar a construção e a representação do personagem ao longo de sua história em diferentes mídias. Por meio de uma análise semiótica da primeira aparição do personagem em uma História em Quadrinhos serão extraídas suas características fundamentais. Em seguida, os contextos sociais, culturais e históricos serão analisados, com ênfase em dois momentos (1940-1954 e 1973-2008), sempre com a intenção de estabelecer relações com a trajetória e as reformulações sofridas pelo personagem. Por último, as teorias psicanalíticas de Sigmund Freud e Jacques Lacan serão a base para um estudo sobre a perversão, e de que forma sua presença, como montagem no laço social contemporâneo, pode estar articulada com a persistência e ubiquidade do Coringa nas mídias e, ainda, com a sua relevância para o público consumidor de produtos culturais

The aim of this paper is to analyse how the interviewees reacted to sexist jokes and to compare it to how they reacted to sexist statements, in order to find out if there is a discrepancy between what people perceive as humour and a serious statement. The interviewees filled out a questionnaire made up of three statements on three of the most common sexist remarks and of three sexist jokes related to the statements. The case study highlights that there are two tendencies: the interviewees either agreed or disagreed with both the statement and the joke, or they disagreed with one and agreed with the other, showing that is it possible to laugh at something with which we do not necessarily agree.

Cette thèse s’attache à expliquer comment les formes de l’architecte brésilien Oscar Niemeyer procèdent d’une pensée du medium et s’expriment déjà dans l’acte de conception à l’aide de documents textuels et graphiques. Portée par les questionnements de l’esthétique et des disciplines à ses frontières, cette recherche interroge la dimension matérielle et formative des projets de l’architecte brésilien autour de documents faiblement mobilisés par l’étude de l’architecture : les textes et les dessins. Dans ces deux types de documents, les formes sont déterminées d’abord et justifiées ensuite, notamment par un motif identitaire. La mise en exergue d’une dimension identitaire dans les réalisations de l’architecte est relative au travail de conception ainsi qu’à une manière particulière d’envisager l’emploi du béton armé. Elle contribue également à singulariser son approche dans son champ professionnel et lui permet l’accès à une position dominante à l’intérieur de ce champ. L’architecture d’Oscar Niemeyer s’inscrit dans la recherche d’une expression spécifique portée par le béton armé et dans un horizon national de redéfinition des expressions culturelles. Elle offre une représentation symbolique d’un état et d’une organisation du monde matérielle et technique de réalisation d’édifices. Sa pensée architecturale et la forme de ses édifices cristallisent la tension du projet du Mouvement moderne dans sa volonté de soumettre le matériau à un dispositif formel justifié par une origine alors qu’avec l’emploi du béton armé, l’architecture abandonne tout système de prescription<br>The core of this Ph.D dissertation consists in the explanation of how brasilian architect Oscar Niemeyer’s forms relie on a speculation about medium and how they are already clear-cutted within the conceptual act under guidance of textual, translated and graphic documents. Grounded in specific aesthetic interrogations and fields akin, this research aims at questioning the formative and material dimension of Niemeyer’s projects based on documents seldom acknowledged by architectural studies, that is texts and drawings. In both types of documents, the forms are first decided and only then justified, mostly by identity arguments. To highlight this identity dimension inward his productions is to tie it with conceptual work and peculiar insight of how to use reinforced concrete. This granted his approach a professional singularization and an influent position within the field. Niemeyer’s peculiar expressive attempts are instructed not only by his use of reinforced concrete but also nationalistic perspectives of cultural redefinition. He provided a symbolic representation of the world development and organization throughout materials and production of buildings. His architectural reflexion and the forms of his constructions incorporate the tension of the Modern Movement projects, especially in the will of bending materials under formal structurations which is in turn justified by origin considerations; although architecture, by using reinforced concrete, simultaneously discards all systems of prescription

Det är en kvalitativ undersökning utifrån tematisk analys med en ontologisk och epistemologisk argumentation för ett kritiskt realistiskt förhållningssätt. Jag har använt mig av tre serieupplagor i karaktärsanalysen av protagonisten och antagonisten. De teoretiker som till störst del framträder är Goffman och hans dramaturgiska terminologi, Webers resonemang om idealtypers funktioner samt Fiskes kommunikationsteori och dess förekommande genom populärkulturens maktdimension. Ao longo do período de estadia na organização foi possível realizar inúmeras tarefas, como a participação da elaboração do Relatório Único e do processamento salarial, no entanto verificou-se um maior enfoque na Análise e Descrição de Funções. O objetivo deste trabalho consiste em descrever as tarefas realizadas durante os três meses de estágio, no entanto devido ao grande envolvimento no processo de Análise e Descrição de Funções, o enquadramento teórico terá o foco nesta prática. Após efetuado o enquadramento far-se-á a apresentação da JOPER e a caracterização dos seus Recursos Humanos. Posteriormente descrevem-se as atividades e tarefas realizadas pormenorizadamente. De seguida será analisada a aplicação do processo de Análise de Funções e a consequente elaboração das Descrições e Especificações de Funções à luz da revisão da literatura. Por fim, será efetuada uma conclusão crítica, apresentando as limitações e a avaliação pessoal<br>The present document reports my internship at JOPER Equipamentos Agrícolas S.A. in the Human Resources Department. This internship was part of the Master's degree in Human Resources Management. Throughout the period of stay in the organization I was able to participate in numerous tasks such as preparation of Relatório Único and payroll, however there was a greater focus on Job Analysis and Descriptions. The objective of this study is to describe the tasks performed during the internship, however due to the large involvement in the Job Analysis and Description the theoretical framework will focus on this practice. After the literature review will be done to the presentation of JOPER and the characterization of its Human Resources. Later we describe the activities and tasks performed in detail. Then we will analyze the application of the Job Analysis process and the consequent development of Job Descriptions and Specifications in the light of the literature review. Finally, a critical conclusion will be made by presenting the limitations and personal assessment.

À l’heure où l’on s’informe dans le cadre de sociabilités quotidiennes via les réseaux sociaux et où l’on joue tout en utilisant des outils info-communicationnels, notre étude entend apporter un changement de perspective en croisant des pratiques supposées antagonistes : s’informer et jouer. Saisir les pratiques informationnelles dans un contexte vidéoludiques est, à notre connaissance, une approche inédite. Une revue de la littérature permet de souligner le caractère pervasif des pratiques vidéoludiques et la perte de visibilité des pratiques informationnelles en contexte numérique. Ces observations mettent en lumière des points de convergence entre des pratiques initialement antagonistes. Dès lors, il devient pertinent de se demander dans quelle mesure de telles pratiques se nourrissent mutuellement. Vingt-deux entretiens individuels ou collectifs ont été réalisés auprès de vingt-huit jeunes âgés de 11 à 19 ans. Les entretiens ont été menés soit au domicile personnel soit dans le CDI du collège ou du lycée. Les données ainsi récoltées ont ensuite fait l'objet d'une analyse transversale et longitudinale. Trois résultats principaux ont émergé. Premièrement, le jeu vidéo s'est révélé être un élément partagé de la culture jeune. Deuxièmement, l’étude a souligné un paradoxe : le plaisir de s’informer et la contrainte de jouer. Enfin, la rédaction de quatre portraits a permis de mettre en évidence le rôle du contexte social (famille, ami(e)s, école, technologie numérique) dans les pratiques vidéoludiques et informationnelles. Finalement, notre étude de terrain permet de saisir l’intrication de ces deux pratiques et démontre combien s’informer relève d’une expérience ludique et jouer d’une expérience informationnelle. Ce travail de recherche propose ainsi un nouveau cadre d’analyse pour l’étude des pratiques informationnelles des jeunes. Il ouvre, par ailleurs, de nouvelles perspectives de recherche à partir notamment des notions de curiosité et d’attention<br>At a time when we are getting informed through daily sociability via social networks and when we are playing while using info-communication tools, our study aims to bring a change of perspective by crossing supposedly antagonistic practices: information seeking and playing videogames. To our knowledge, capturing informational practices in a context of videogame practices is a new approach. A review of the literature highlights the pervasiveness of videogame practices and the loss of visibility of informational practices in a digital context. These observations highlight points of convergence between initially antagonistic practices. It is therefore relevant to ask to what extent such practices feed into each other.Twenty-two individual or group interviews were conducted with twenty-eight young people aged 11 to 19. The interviews were conducted either at the personal home or in the permanent contract of the college or high school. The data collected in this way were then subjected to cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis.Three main results emerged. First, video games have proven to be a shared element of youth culture. Second, the study highlighted a paradox: the pleasure of being informed and the constraint of gambling. Finally, the writing of four portraits highlighted the role of the social context (family, friends, school, IT) in videogame and information practices.Finally, our field study allows us to understand the intricate nature of these two practices and shows how much seeking informations is a playful experience and playing videogames an informational experience. This research work thus proposes a new analytical framework for the study of young people's information seeking. It also opens up new perspectives for research based in particular on the notions of curiosity and attention

Si l'éthique n'est pas illusoire, comment comprendre son efficience ? La question nécessite d'identifier des complexes objectifs de sens et d'action. Il s'agit en effet de se placer du côté du corps pour ne plus verser dans l'éternel débat idéologique qui, précisément, élude la question. Un travail empirique s'impose, que nous engageons dans un championnat départemental de tennis de table. Nous ne pouvons au demeurant mettre en relation sens et actions sans penser le plan sur lequel les apposer. La comparaison naïve conduit en effet à rabattre inconsciemment les éléments actionnels sur l'unique plan de la représentation. D'où la nécessaire induction d'un plan d'apposition à partir de la fréquentation méthodique du terrain. Cette construction ne peut se faire aux dépends des acteurs, sources du sens éthique et des actions effectives, mais doit être conforme à une épistémologie de la complexité et de l'immanence. Au terme d'une démarche graduelle qui vise la connexion de la posture et du terrain, nous déterminons ainsi le « jeu » comme plan d'apposition. « Jouer le jeu », c'est réaliser un bien dans et par des actions sportives. En en identifiant les déclinaisons, nous élaborons des complexes de sens et d'action. Ceux-ci sont déduits selon un principe généalogique à partir des données déjà collectées. Après leur analyse méthodique, nous sommes en mesure de faire une description détaillée du processus d'efficience qui a cours dans un échange type. Nous défendons par là l'idée que l'éthique adjoint au déséquilibre, coeur inconscient du mouvement et dimension physiologique de la motivation, une nuance qui lui assure perduration dans un monde de l'équilibre institué.

This thesis examines the relationship between sound, meaning, humor and culture through the lens of translation. It illustrates the relevance of sound to determining the meaning of words by analyzing textual examples in a variety of media—oral, written and visual—where the phonological aspect of words constitutes a deliberate component of the message. Sound is also presented as a cultural and linguistic factor present in the configuration of certain types of humor. Phonological jokes, or jokes that use words of one’s own language to parody the way another language sounds, are selected out of a variety of possible texts as heuristic tools for analyzing the interrelationship between sound and meaning within a humorous context. A primary classification of this type of joke is presented together with an original corpus of examples from over 30 languages. Such multilingual perspective enables us to examine the role of sound as a culturally-bound component of language, while demonstrating that sound-based humor exists in multiple cultures and is a widespread phenomenon.<br>Aquesta tesi analitza la relació entre el so, el significat, l'humor i la cultura a través de la traducció. Il·lustra la importància del so per determinar el significat de les paraules mitjançant l'anàlisi d'exemples textuals en una varietat de mitjans de comunicació—oral, escrit i visual—destacant com l'aspecte fonològic de les paraules constitueix un component intencional del missatge. El so es presenta a més com un factor cultural i lingüístic present en la configuració de certs tipus d'humor. Per demostrar aquest aspecte, d’una varietat de possibles textos humorístics s’han seleccionat acudits de caràcter fonològic, o acudits que es fan servir paraules de la llengua pròpia amb el propòsit de parodiar la manera com sona un altre idioma. Aquests acudits serveixen com a eines heurístiques per a l'anàlisi de la interrelació entre el so i el significat en un context humorístic. Una classificació primària d'aquest tipus d’acudits es presenta juntament amb un corpus original i multilingüe d’exemples en més de 30 idiomes. Aquesta perspectiva d’anàlisi multilingüe ens permet examinar el paper del so com un component cultural arrelat en la llengua, alhora que demostra que l'humor basat en el so existeix en diverses cultures i és un fenomen generalitzat.

The research for designing a model of a management information system for a state aided school is divided into five phases. In the first instance it was determined what a state aided school is, who are involved with the state aided school and what their functions are in relation to the school. Secondly, the managers of state aided schools are identified. The managerial functions in the different management areas and the implications thereof for the management information system are investigated In the third instance, it is revealed that a management information system is a sub-system of the state aided school, while itself consists of components or sub-systems. It is shown that the purpose of a management information system is to provide managers at the right time, with the correct information in the most suitable format to support them in their management task. In the fourth instance it is shown that principals of state aided schools regard information in connection with pupils, staff, the community, finance, curriculum, facilities and equipment as very important for their management tasks. It is also indicated that the existing management information systems at schools are less successful in providing principals with the information that is required for their management tasks. In the final phase it reveals that a management Information system tor a state aided school should consist of a data base with a data base management system, application programmes, supporting programmes, a computer network, competent computer staff and comprehensive procedures.<br>Proefskrif (PhD)--PU vir CHO, 1994

Les Pokot du Kenya sont une communauté de 190. 000 personnes (recensement 1989). Nilotes couchitiques, ils appartiennent à l'aire culturelle kalenjin. Originaires des montagnes, les Sekerr et les Cherangni, ils sont agro-pasteurs sédentaires, et ont développé traditionnellement une organisation socio-politique fondée sur huit classes d'âge aux noms récurrents, mais sans cérémonies de transmission de pouvoir pour le changement de statut de chaque classe, hormis le rite d'entrée par la circoncision. Au début du XIXème siècle, un tiers d'entre eux environ quitte les Hautes Terres vers l'est et s'installent dans les plaines de Masöl. D'autres poursuivent à l'est jusqu'à Nginyang, près des Turkana, où ils s'installent. Là certains poursuivent encore, chassant les Maasaï à l'ouest jusqu'à Kitale. Pénétrant en territoire karimojong, ils repoussent les Karimojong jusqu'à la frontière ougandaise actuelle. Leurs migration, leur nouveau mode de vie : ils sont pasteurs semi-nomades dans les plaines, le contact avec les Turkana à l'est, les Karimojong à l'ouest et leurs systèmes de classes générationnelles déterminent la formation de systèmes syncrétiques très diversifiés chez les Pokot. L'objet de la thèse est centré sur la question des exigences de telles constructions syncrétiques observées dans les trois zones de peuplement, et pour la communauté des Pokot dans son ensemble, et pour chacun de ses membres. De tels systèmes syncrétiques ne peuvent aboutir que si et seulement si les Pokot inventent les solutions les plus judicieuses aux paradoxes nés de la simultanéité des deux systèmes<br>In Kenya, the Pokot community is made up of approximately 190. 000persons (1989 census). They are Kushitic Nilotes and belong to the Kalenjin group. Native of the Sekerr Mountains and the Cherangani Hills, they are an agropastoral and sedentary people organized by eight age-classes with current names but without handing over ceremonies. During the first decades of the 19th century, a third of them left the mountains and migrated to the east plains. Some of them settled on the Masöl plains, while others wentt eastwards and reached Nginyang where they settled near the Turkana community. These are the East plains pastoral Pokot. Then some of them left, raided the Maasaï on the west side and chased them up to Kitale. They still went further west and reached the Karimojong territory where they chased the Karimojong out of their lands up to Amudat in Uganda, and settled there. They are the West plains Pokot. Their migrations lead them to adopt a new way of life. They became semi-nomads and pastoralists on the East and West plains. Adopting a way of life similar to the Turkana and the Karimojong, they borrowed their generation classes which determined the syncretic socio-political systems still in effect today. This thesis is focussed on the question : what do such syncretic constructions observed in the three settlement zones impose upon the Pokot community as a whole and on each of its members. Such syncretic systems can exist if, and only if, the Pokot discover the most judicious solution to their paradoxes generated by the simultaneous exigence of contradictory age classes and generation classes systems

La thèse qualitative présentée questionne la diversité du plaisir sexuel. Une population de dix artistes aux goûts, pratiques et orientations sexuelles variées a été mobilisée. Sur la base des données récoltées entre 2013 et 2019 en France et notamment en Alsace et à Paris, trois grandes thématiques ont été développées. Les portraits détaillés des informateurs sont présentés en premier lieu, agrémentés d’une réflexion sur la difficulté de catégoriser cette population avec les typologies existantes. Suite à quoi il importait de donner une cohérence à cette population en mettant le focus sur ce qui fait sexualité selon ses membres. En l’occurrence la sexualité est conçue comme un jeu, une aventure, autrement dit une expérience émotionnelle trépidante car aléatoire, parfois risquée. Nous nous intéresserons aux stratégies développées par les individus afin de maintenir cette activité ludique, liminoïde, dans le temps. Nous penserons également l’impact de ce désir de liminoïde, devenu norme, sur les relations communautaires (distinction et rejet). Enfin, sera abordée la problématique de la construction d’une interaction répondant aux principes éthiques et érotiques de la population. Nous verrons comment celle-ci négocie l’interaction entre nécessité d’une interaction safe et satisfaisante pour chaque partenaire et désir d’aventure<br>This qualitative research is focuses on a reflection about the diversity sexual pleasure. In order to study the question, ten artists with various sexual tastes, practices and orientation have been involved. Three major themes have been elaborated on the basis of the data collected between 2013 and 2019 in France and especially in Alsace and Paris. Firstly, descriptive portraits of informants are presented, including a reflection on the challenge of categorizing this population with existing typologies. Subsequently, it was important to give consistency to this panel, with a focus on their approaches of sexuality. To them, sexuality is a game, an adventure, in other words a hectic emotional experience, sometimes hazardous. We will examine the strategies developed in order to maintain this playful, liminoid activity over time. We will also consider the impact of this liminoid desire, which has become their norm, on community relations (distinction and rejection). Finally, the problem of performing an interaction that meets the ethical and erotic principles of the population will be discussed. We will see how informants negotiate the interaction between the necessity of a safe and satisfying interaction for each partner and their desire for adventure

Abstract:
The aim of this qualitative study was to attain an increased understanding as to how several upper-secondary school students perceived and experienced teachers using humour during classroom discourse. The study was based on the following questions: What does humour mean to the students? What are the forms of humour utilized by teachers? How do students perceive the use of humour with regards to learning processes? Are there recommendations and cautionary measures for teachers to consider when incorporating humour in teaching? Methodology used was a semi-structured interview of 13 questions. Participants consisted of six students aged 16 to 19 years. The length of the interviews varied between 20-35 minutes. Results of the interviews indicated that openness and understanding the unique sense of humour existing in each classroom, as well as self-confidence and a moderate use of humour, are necessary to effectively incorporate humorous text and anecdotes in lessons to facilitate learning processes. However, the study revealed that openness is pivotal in the construction and maintenance of positive learning climates. Students did not experience humour during ESL lessons, indicating a possible lack of contextual knowledge in language teaching practices.

In this thesis, I address the metaphysical question 'What is humour?' and the ethical question 'When is humour immoral?' Consulting a dictionary reveals a circle of definitions between 'amusement', 'funniness', and 'humour'. So I split the metaphysical question 'What is humour?' into three questions: 'What is amusement?', 'What is funniness?' and 'What is humour?' By critically analysing then synthesising recent research in philosophy, psychology and linguistics, I give the following answers: (1) x amuses y if and only if: (i) y is in a non-serious, non-threatened, non-goal-directed state. (ii) y simultaneously activates two incompatible interpretations of x via unsound logic. (iii) (ii) sufficiently increases the psychological arousal of y. (2) x is funny if and only if x merits amusement. (3) x is humour if and only if the function of x is to merit or elicit amusement. Similarly, I split the ethical question 'When is humour immoral?' into three questions: 'When is amusement immoral?', 'How does immorality affect funniness?' and 'When is humour immoral?' By using (1), (2) and (3), I give the following answers: (4) Amusement is immoral when the correct theory of normative ethics defines (1.i), (1.ii) or (1.iii) to be immoral. (5) Immorality negatively affects funniness. (6) Humour-types are not subject to moral evaluation. (7) Humour-tokens are immoral when the correct theory of normative ethics defines them to be immoral. This thesis contributes to the knowledge of the subject in two ways. First, by critically analysing and synthesising recent inter-disciplinary research, (1) provides a more precisely specified definition of amusement than that in the philosophical literature. Second, research on humour, across all disciplines, conflates the three closely related but distinct concepts of humour, amusement and funniness. By providing a linear sequence of definitions, (1), (2) and (3) avoid the conceptual confusions that commonly occur.

À travers une histoire longue des business games à une échelle internationale, la recherche clarifie certaines questions importantes liées à la performativité des sciences économiques et de gestion. Elle suggère combien l’étude des modalités d’acquisition des savoirs – et, parmi elles, le jeu – ainsi que des dispositifs qui les soutiennent est centrale pour saisir le fonctionnement de l’économie de marché. Une généalogie des jeux de guerre éclaire les lointaines origines et les principes élémentaires du jeu d’entreprise. Une étude du projet d’« opérations de commerce simulées » initié par Vital Roux dès 1800 montre qu’il s’agit d’une version précurseur des jeux d’affaires modernes. Une discussion des travaux pédagogiques du philosophe pragmatiste John Dewey introduit la présentation des premiers business games désignés en tant que tels, créés en URSS à partir de 1932. Une étude des développements croisés de la recherche opérationnelle, de la théorie des jeux et de l’informatique accompagne une étude de l’émergence des premiers jeux d’entreprise informatisés (1956, 1957). Through a long history of business games on an international scale, the research specifies some important issues related to economics and management performativity. It suggests that a study of the alternatives for knowledge acquisition – among which gaming – and of the devices that support them, is central for a better understanding of the functioning of market economy. A genealogy of war games exposes the ancient origins and the elementary principles of business gaming. A study of the “simulated business operations” project initiated by Vital Roux in 1800 shows that they were a forerunner version of modern business games. A discussion on the pedagogical works of the pragmatist philosopher John Dewey presents the introduction of the first business games designated as such, which were created in the USSR as from 1932. Then, a focus on the interconnected developments of Operational Research, Game Theory and Computer Science is taken alongside a study of the very first computerized business games (1956, 1957). A sociological approach to the contemporary conception of business games reveals how they articulate economics and management, gathering the model and rules of the simulated market on one hand and a space of freedom with possibilities for strategic intervention on the other. Finally, a video-ethnography of business games shows their implementation within French business schools and explores the emotional dimension of management simulations

To this effect, play theory, definitions of play, its functions and a typology of games, especially as they correspond to different age groups, were studied. Particular attention was paid to the distinction between games, structured activities with rules, and play which encourages creativity, imagination and spontaneity in language classes. A model of play was developed as an instrument for the evaluation of games and activities used in languages courses. The second part contains an examination of the games proposed in primary and secondary schools, in the foreign language courses in theses classes as well as in continuing education classes. Also examined is the silent way, a methodology based on play. The third part is a study of the real use of games in courses observed, the application of play technique in difficult language teaching situations such as legal english, and the implicaltions of all this on teacher training

In the linguistic study of humor, research has largely been centered around the formulation of models and theories or the dissecting and categorization of jokes. Because of the often difficult-to-categorize aspects of verbal jokes, much time has been spent trying to create taxonomies for humor types and mechanisms. Linguists such as Raskin and Attardo have sought to categorize all verbal humor according to various functional elements (Attardo & Raskin, 1991). Such elements include, but are not limited to, the logical mechanism that drives the humor in the joke or the situation where the joke takes place. These categorizations are helpful in understanding the potential components of a given joke. However, relatively few studies have sought to quantify and qualify the distribution of these components across real-world data. This study seeks to understand the distribution of some of these categorizations laid out by Raskin and Attardo across joke topics, namely pun wordplay and narrative strategy. To do this, an original 100,000 word joke corpus was designed and compiled consisting of four joke topics: Marriage, Politics, Animals, and Food. Through some manual sorting and Python programming, jokes were labeled according to wordplay strategy and narrative structure. A subsequent statistical analysis was carried out to determine whether there exists a pattern of specific joke strategies when dealing with children's humor versus adult humor.

Jokes were considered low and insignificant in traditional Chinese literature. Ssu-shu hsiao is witty and provocative, different from other conventional and contemporary jestbooks for its parodic relationship with the Four Books, which were the core-texts of Neo-Confucianism and civil service examinations. The purpose of this study is to examine the late Ming jestbook, Ssu-shu hsiao, and analyze its cultural value, sociopolitical implications, and psychological concepts. This dissertation is divided into four chapters. Chapter one contains two important parts: It establishes the ground of historical studies relevant to the significance of the Four Books and Five Classics as well as the tradition of humor and jest. Part two provides an introduction of the text Ssu-shu hsiao and a description of my interpretive strategy. In order to help the reader understand the Chinese and Western theories of humor and literary tropes related to Ssu-shu hsiao, I direct my discussion to the following issues: imitation, allusion, quotation, parody, intertextuality, and paradox. Through the comparison between Ssu-shu hsiao and two other contemporary jestbooks, Hsien-hsien p'ien and Hsiao-fu, we can understand that the jokes of the late Ming were considered as public property used by people regardless of authorship. Chapter two investigates jokes in relation to the civil service examinations. Through examination books in the bookmarkets, we know the commercialized texts available for the prospective examinees; such a cultural phenomenon sheds light on the derailing of educational function from the level of self-cultivation to that of profit-making. The downward transformation of intellectual status from the Sung dynasty to the Ming resulted from defects in various factors. Jokes concerning the examination consisted of those making fun of the forms and contents of the eight-legged essays. The methods that enable one to become an expert of this type of prose include the memorization of the Four Books, Five Classics, and their commentaries, imitating the words and teachings of ancient sage-kings. Chapter three deals with the Sung-Ming pedagogical authority, Neo-Confucianism or the so-called "True Way Learning," and its activity of "learning by discussion" (chiang-hs Ueh). The factional disputes, philosophical debates, and the problem of legitimacy are signaled by the jokes targeting the Ch'eng Brothers and Chu Hsi. The equalization of the scholars of "True Way Learning" and "mountain-recluse" ("shan-jen") was an indication of the decline of intellectual status in the late Ming. Chapter four discusses gender and sexuality in the bawdy jokes of Ssu-shu hsiao. Dirty jokes expose the conflict of moral principle and pleasure-pursuit. The male jokesters manipulated gender stereotypes humorously by which we can probe into the problems such as the practice of concubinage, the remarriage of widows, and female same-sex relationship and adultery. Joking on male same-sex sexuality is also discussed. A conclusion recapitulates the key issues of the previous chapters.

Abstract:
The basic ingredient of paper is the individual wood fibers. The property of the fibers depends on a variety of factors e.g., method of pulp production and processing. The final sheet quality depends in part on how the fibers interface between each other and therefore factors that affect the fiber size are of interest. The flexibility of the fibers depends in part on the pore water i.e., the fiber swelling. The sheet becomes less flexible at low water content which gives a loss in strength. Thus it becomes desirable to increase the water uptake. The experimental investigation described in this report consists of exposing the wood fibers to different ions and ionic strength and then measure the pore size by thermoporosimetry where a DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimeter) is used. DSC measures the freezing point of water in the pores of the wood fibers. As the freezing point varies with the pore size the size distribution can be determined. The results show that there are complications with thermoporosimetry measurements at different ion concentrations. The strength of the ionic solutions will contribute to a fictitious pore volume, which makes analysis difficult to interpret.
