Abstract:
A regional seismic section was constructed from fourteen local seismic lines from different surveys crossing the central part of Iraq from west to east. The seismic lines’ surveys were performed during the period 1974–1990. The length of the regional seismic section is 662.5 km. The considered seismic lines are unified to the sea level datum. The quality of seismic lines is relatively poor in the western part of the regional seismic section, but it is of good quality in the central and eastern parts. Seven reflectors were identified along the regional seismic section, corresponding to ages fro

The Hoseiba Member, an Early Silurian basal mature hot shale of the Akkas Formation (Silurian) consists of about 80% of the Paleozoic hydrocarbon potential system, it is organic-rich with total organic carbon up to 16% as the main source for the Paleozoic gas resources in Iraq. The hot shale is the main source of rocks that are penetrated in deep wells in the western Iraqi desert such as Akkas-1, Qaim-1, and Khleisia -1, which are distributed due to paleo uplift in the restricted regional basin in the west, south, and northwest Iraqi desert and wedged to north thrust zone in Ora area of extrem

AbstractToday the eastern tributaries of the Upper Khabur run dry during the summer and the landscape is devoid of trees. This picture is misleading when we try to understand archaeological sites within their former environmental context. Interdisciplinary geomorphological, archaeobotanical and ostracod research on a sequence from the Wadi Jaghjagh indicates that relatively stable, perennial flow velocities occurred during the mid 4th to mid-3rd millennium BC. Evidence was found for a gallery forest and swamp belt along the Jaghjagh during the mid-4th millennium BC. Oak park woodland was prese

This chapter is the seventh section of Kadivar’s ‘Treatise on Refuting the Punishment for Blasphemy and Apostasy’. The ruling on sentencing apostates or blasphemers to death has no Qur’anic basis; the cited narrations are not mutawātir; the narrations supporting it are thiqa “isolated reports” (khabar al-wāḥid); the claim of consensus is untenable because it is an ijmā‘ madrakī validated on the basis of the narrations cited; permission to kill apostates or blasphemers has no stronger proof than one thiqa “isolated report”; and there is no evidence that the Prophet, Ali or the other Imams issue

Since Tell Khazna II was first published, new investigations and new publications have better documented Pottery Neolithic in the Khabur basin and, more largely, in northern Mesopotamia. Hence it seemed worth presenting a detailed study, including chemical analyses, of Tell Khazna II Proto-Hassuna pottery and revisiting it in the light of the new data. После публикации первых материалов, обнаруженных на Телль Хазне II, новые исследования позволили более подробно представить керамический неолит в долине Хабура и, в целом, в Северной Месопотамии.
