Abstract: In the present work, three leguminous speeies have been sudied: Cajanus eajan, Lab lab purpureum and Mueuna aterrima whieh belong to the sUb-family Papilionoideae where are eoneentrated the most of the legumes used in the human nutrieion. Guanu, Lab lab eMueuna are also used in foragement and as green fertilizer. cioehemieal and bioehemieal analysis have been made and it was find out the presenee of two prineipal reserves in the eotyledons of these speeies: stareh and protein. The eontent of followed by Lab lab with the dry material(DM). The eitoehemieal methods and the polarization mieroseopy indieate that the stareh grains in Lab lab are more numerous and presentes asmaller size. The proteie material presented homogeneously distributed around the stareh grains, in alI the eytoplasm of the eells. Lab lab was the speeie with the major proteie eontent, with about 25,6% of the DM. The proteie extraets analysis in SDS-PAGE revealed inumerable proteins and too mueh diferenees between the speeies. The Guandu presented a earaeteristie protin of 100 KDa and Mueuna may be eharaeterized by the proteins of smaller moleeular weight, like 36,5, 27,5 and 18,5 KDa. The 45 KDa protein was exelusive for Lab lab. The lipidis and free simpler earbohydrates are in low amout in this seeds. Though the eitoehemieal euts and eletronie mieroseopy of sweeping, it was verified one tipieal tegumentar strueture, with a dense layer of palisade and with eells quite elongated. The paliçade beeame metaehromatie when eolored with AT pH 4, O, due to the presenee of peetie substanees. AIso there were a strong eoloration of the PAS due to the presence of celulosys. None of the species showed the "Linea Lucida" in the cells of the testa, caracteristic of water impermeable seeds. The cromografic analisys revealed a great glucose, xylose and arabinose content in the teguments of these three species. In the Mucuna tegument, the presence of brown corps, posibly taninns, was detected. The data obtained in the embibement curve show that Guandu and Lab lab embibes faster. Mucuna embibed more slowly, and although it is also a permeable tegument specie, one can verify that it the testa that presents the major resistence to water entrance. So, it may be sugested that this major resitence is due to the presence of tannins, wich were present in great quantity only in this specie. The obtained results were still confronted with those finded in totaly impermeable species, whose tegument anatomy presents inumerable diferences in relation with the three studied species

Full textGel Electrophoresis, a widely used technique for the separation of proteins in a mixture, must be approached with strict adherence to proper technique for achievement of reliable results. The purpose of the research is to measure the effectiveness of the use of a three-part video as a pre lab preparatory tool to demonstrate to students proper technique prior to completion of the required lab experiment. The video included the processes and steps involved in making the gel, loading the gel, running the gel, and removing and staining the gel. Each semester only half of the class was given access to the video via Blackboard and had two weeks to view it with 24 hour access, while the entire class received the normal pre lab discussion given by graduate TA lab instructor. Both groups were given a questionnaire to be filled out as they completed the lab about the time required to complete each step and their level of confidence on a scale of 1 to 5 in their ability as they completed the steps and their overall confidence in their ability perform the lab while ensuring good or effective results. Prelab questionnaires, Lab questionnaires, instructor evaluations from completed gels, and data retrieved from Blackboard regarding if/when/how many times students actually viewed the video, were analyzed in an attempt to measure the effectiveness of the video as a useful teaching tool.

Full textFinnegan Lab System is a graphical computer program for learning how secret sharing works. With its focus on the algorithms and the data streams, the user does not have to consider machine-specific low-level details. It is highly modularised and is not restricted to secret sharing, but can easily be extended with new functions, such as building blocks for Feistel networks or signal processing.
This thesis describes what secret sharing is, the development of a new lab system designed for secret sharing and how it can be used.

This thesis describes several projects developed to teach undergraduate dynamics and controls. The materials were developed primarily for the class 2.003 Modeling Dynamics and Control I. These include (1) a set of ActivLab modular experiments that illustrate the dynamics of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems and (2) a two wheeled mobile inverted pendulum. The ActivLab equipment has been designed as shareware, and plans for it are available on the web. The inverted pendulum robot developed here is largely inspired by the iBOT and Segway transportation devices invented by Dean Kamen.

The elder population has been growing exponentially in the last years, which results in a greater search of provision of health care resources comparing to the provision of that services. In order to solve this problem the Ambient Assisted Living emerged to support the elderly in their daily life, within their homes. In this document, it’s described the development of the Home Gateway to support the services of Ambient Assisted Living, of Living Usability Lab project and its architecture. The Home Gateway is the entity responsible for managing all the resources available in the elderly's house. The Home Gateway architecture is based on service-oriented architecture using OSGi. The resources are all available through Web services, hence some of the implemented services are described. The developed Home Gateway responds effectively to the needs of being autonomous, of interoperability, security, scalability, monitoring, customization, adaptation, being impregnated and distributed, providing explicit interaction, among others. The system that has been developed may be used in other health areas and with different age ranges in addition to supporting the elderly in their own homes. In brief, and taking into account the conclusions and limitations of the developed work, it becomes clear the possibility of future work on the field focused on solutions that can be implemented.

For years, the methods of choice of color in dentistry, have been made subjectively, based on individual clinical experience, without any scientific basis. With the increase in esthetic restorations, the most sought in recent decades, for better color choice are the visualand instrumental techniques. The visual technique is performed with the aid of references, and the scales of instrumental technique are performed with the aid of spectrophotometers, colorimeters and image analysis software. Due to technological advances in equipment and due to the development ofsoftwares that improve precision in color of the captured digital image, the present study aimed to use the Adobe Photoshop 7.0 software, in order to evaluate the usefulness of the digital camerain clinical practice, when selecting color according to the Vita LuminVaccum scale.Interobserver agreement was verified when two examiners evaluated the coordinates L*, a* and b*, by using an unprofessional camera. Intraclass correlation coefficient was applied to verify interobserver agreement. It can be concluded that the computer analysis of photographic images can be used to analyze the color guides by means of the CIE L*a*b* system, as it was reliable and also because the color difference between the two observers was clinically acceptable. In relation of the use of a professional digital camera to verify the difference in color promoted by the manual and by the automatic mode, it can be concluded that for the guides B1, B3, and C4 any modes could be used, differently of the observed for the guide A3.5

The Teacher's LAB software application is a development platform for innovative classroom activities. Educators can use the tool to construct and share representations of their day-to-day classroom practices. Through the process of representing, constructing, and sharing, teachers engage in critical reflection about their own practice. In my pilot study, this reflection helped teachers recognize essential educational building blocks. I call these elements pedagogical patterns and argue that understanding these patterns is a key dimension of teacher learning. Teacher's LAB promotes this understanding, helping classroom teachers become more reflective practitioners. Furthermore, using the software to share pedagogical patterns challenges the isolation of working teachers by allowing them to co-construct lessons with their colleagues. Educators and curriculum developers can collaboratively develop an expanding pattern language of pedagogy, leading to improved educational practices and new opportunities for learning.

Abstract: For years, the methods of choice of color in dentistry, have been made subjectively, based on individual clinical experience, without any scientific basis.

Full textLinear alkyl benzene (LAB, C6H5CnH2n+1, n = 10 - 13) is the proposed solvent for the SNO+, the Daya Bay Neutrino and LENA experiment. In solution with the commonly used scintillator PPO it is a colourless, odourless and cheap liquid scintillator with a high fash point and low health hazard compared to toluene based ones. The properties of LAB make this scintillator interesting also for nELBE, the neutron time-of-fight facility at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden - Rossendorf. A new approach to measure the light yield in the low-energy range using a combination of quasi-monoenergetic photon sources and a Compton-spectrometer is described. The latter allows the measurement of the light yield down to 5 keVee (electron equivalent). The Birks- Parameter was determined for a homemade solution (LAB + 3 g/l PPO) and for NE-213. The light yield (relative to this standard scintillator) was confrmed by measurements using a fuorescence spectrometer. The ability of pulse-shape-discrimination in a mixed n-gamma- field of a Cf(252) source was tested using different digital and semi-analogue techniques.

Globalization and technology have pressured both employers and educational institutions to change. Entry-level employees must be adaptive, innovative, collaborative, and have strong problem-solving and communication skills. To prepare students for the future workforce, schools must revisit existing practices and find new ways to foster innovation as the gap between the new skills students need verses what is being taught in public schools continues to grow (Bybee et al, 2006; Wagner, 2012). One way to increase students’ interest and skills in STEM education is by incorporating makerspaces into schools. Makerspaces are physical spaces where people have opportunities to build and construct objects based on their own personal interests. Makerspaces foster the innovative ideas and skills students need upon graduation. This qualitative case study investigates why educational leaders decided to launch a makerspace lab and how school leaders established a model makerspace lab at an elementary school. The purpose of this study was to document and describe the change process connected with the implementation of the makerspace lab, how leaders navigated various obstacles, perceptions of the change process, and lessons learned from educators. The findings show that school leaders experienced a novel concept after visiting an extraordinary model makerspace program which demonstrated a unique approach to developing the innovative capacity of young learners. These experiences created a transformational moment in school leaders that motivated them to be change agents and launch their own makerspace lab. School leaders developed community partnerships with an engineering university, a Fortune 500 company, an education community foundation, and a large school district to make this work possible. Together, these educational and business leaders created a model elementary makerspace model that is one of the first of its kind on the east coast and currently services students from other schools in the region. The findings further discuss the importance of community partnerships, inviting other schools to participate, having a model program to emulate, having the right people, and how a school initiative became a district opportunity.

With the increase of available mobile network services, it is needed a more e cient management of resources. To accomplish that, accurate simulation tools and measuring equipments are required. The scienti c community have proposed new equipments that allow a better characterization of Radio Frequency (RF) devices, as the VNAs. In this work some demonstrative measuring instruments are developed, using low cost and versatile/recon gurable commercial components. The implemented instruments are a power meter, an oscilloscope and a VNA. For the power meter it is used a power detector and a FPGA to process and display the result. For the oscilloscope and VNA it is used a RF transceiver to down-convert the RF signal and up-convert the baseband signal and a FPGA to control the RF transceiver and processing. An user interface for oscilloscope and VNA was created using MATLAB R GUI. Lastly, the measurements performed by each one of the implemented systems are discussed. The power level measured by the power meter is compared with the reference values. The oscilloscope is evaluated by common respective gures of merit and the Scattering Parameters (S-parameters) measured by the VNA are compared with the ones measured by a reference VNA.
