Abstract Background Resection of the portal venous confluence is frequently necessary for radical resection during pancreatoduodenectomy for cancer. However, ligation of the splenic vein can cause serious postoperative complications such as gastric/splenic venous congestion and left-sided portal hypertension. A splenorenal shunt (SRS) can maintain gastric and splenic venous drainage and mitigate these complications. Purpose This study describes the surgical technique, postoperative course, and surgical outcomes of SRS after pancreatoduodenectomy. Methods Ten patients who underwent pancreatoduo

This Ph.D. dissertation inquires into an often-neglected dimension of radical left politics: the relation with national identity. Although the scholarly literature on party politics has mostly overlooked this relation, it is a relevant aspect of radical left parties’ identity and concrete politics. It is an issue for which there is a puzzling heterogeneity of outlooks within the ranks of the radical Left. Many European radical left parties tend to simply downplay national identity in their political discourse; but others openly reject it; and still others fiercely embrace it. The aim of the re

Latvian exile literature was formed when a part of Latvian society left homeland, when the country was reoccupied by the Soviet army at the end of the Second World War. Exile society and, accordingly, literature maintained both the dream of restoring independence and returning to the homeland as the goal of the exiles. The independence was regained after 45 years and this makes the concept of return problematic. This motif is one of the essential ones in post-exile literature. Abstract Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) is a major threat to pipelines and storage tanks. Even though MIC during hydrotest itself may be limited due to lack of nutrients and a relatively short duration, biofilms left behind may flourish after the pipeline is commissioned resulting in MIC pitting over the long run. This work investigated MIC in simulated hydrotest with X65 coupons using untreated natural seawater and enriched artificial seawater spiked or not spiked with a laboratory strain of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) for up to 90 days. The Napoleonic Era is a complex and exceptional period in the history of Europe and the world. The leader Napoleon Bonaparte has left an ambiguous legacy, still the result of studies and research. In this article we make a comprehensive assessment of the entire period, from the Consulate stage to the rise and fall of the Empire. Thus, we enter the political, economic, social and mentality terrain of one of the most outstanding temporal spaces in the origins of Contemporary History. The task of writing about the Napoleonic Era and Napoleon himself as a soldier and statesman is always a complex

The final frontier of European transitional energy law must be found in the introduction of a balanced and efficient system of climate and energy justice. The stratification, over time, of multiple rules in European Union law, both soft law and hard law, has, on the one hand, ensured legal certainty and regulation of the various aspects of the matter but, on the other hand, risks increasing litigation between the players in this field exponentially. The significant increase in the number of regulations governing the various aspects of the energy community entails the need to raise the level

Introduction: Coronavirus diasease 2019 (COVID-19) has been associated with inflammatory, ischemic and autoimmune neurological complications. We report a case of Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) as an autoimmune neurological complication in COVID-19, an association still rare in the literature. Case report: A 45-year-old woman, presented with back pain of strong intensity with irradiation to the left lower limb, associated with painful muscle contracture and weakness in the same limb with progressive worsening in two days. There is uncertainty around the optimal role of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for management of chronic coronary syndrome, specifically when patients have disease in multiple coronary vessels and disease in the proximal portion of the left anterior descending coronary artery. This uncertainty was reflected in 2021 guidance from the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) on coronary artery revascularization. In the face of the COVID-19 crisis, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), other multilateral institutions and countries took unprecedented measures. Inter alia, the IMF agreed on an historical SDR allocation that more than tripled the volume of SDRs to cover long-term global reserve needs and ultimately support vulnerable countries. Member countries can keep SDRs to boost their reserves or use them in other ways, including to cancel their debts with the IMF, lend to the IMF or exchange SDRs for currencies. This report investigates the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the Serbian party system. The Serbian case has two unique characteristics. The first is the final status of Kosovo, which Serbia has traditionally relied on Russian support over (as a member of the UN Security Council). However, Ukraine has also respected the territorial integrity of Serbia and did not recognize Kosovo. The second characteristic is Serbia’s ruling party, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). Unlike many other Eastern European populist parties, the SNS is formally pro-European Union. Since the beginn
