Lattice basis reduction is a powerful tool for solving complex problems both in pure mathematics and practical applications. In this thesis, we use lattice basis reduction as a preconditioning technique to accelerate the real relaxation based branch and bound (RRBB) method for solving integer least squares (ILS) problems. We give theoretical arguments and simulation results to show that applying lattice preconditioning to the RRBB method can greatly reduce the size of the RRBB tree for ordinary ILS problems, making the method more efficient.
