Abstract:
The last account of the judges is that of Samson (Judges 13–16). This account has all the elements of a blockbuster. All the indications are that Samson would be an extraordinary person. And yet, even though Samson may be regarded as some sort of hero, the story suggests that Samson was also the weakest or most ineffective of the judges. Tension is created through the juxtaposition of “ideal” and “non-ideal” bodies. An alternative ideology, as a hidden polemic, is concealed in the account. As in the case of Achsah (Judges 1:11–15) and Deborah (Judges 4–5), the nameless wife of Manoah (the mother of Samson) serves as an illustration of “countercultural rhetoric” as a hidden polemic.

Abstract:
Powdery mildews are characterized by the appearance of spots or patches of a white to grayish, powdery, mildewy growth on plant tissues, entire leaves or other organs. Ervsiphe cichoracearum, the powdery mildew of cucurbits is among the most serious parasites, and the most common. The conidia are formed similar to the process described for Ervsiphe graminis by Cole and Samson. Theconidial chains mature basipetally from a short, conidiophore mother-cell at the base of the fertile hypha which arises holoblastically from the conidiophore. During early development it probably elongates by polar-tip growth like a vegetative hypha. A septum forms just above the conidiophore apex. Additional septa develop in acropetal succession. However, the conidia of E. cichoracearum are more doliform than condia from E. graminis. The purpose of these investigations was to use scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to demonstrate the nature of hyphal growth and conidial formation of E. cichoracearum on field-grown squash leaves.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Studies measuring objective sleep duration in rural/indigenous populations are limited, showing sleep duration similar to that of industrialized countries. Little is known about sleep duration in women of reproductive age, and children within these populations. Our study is the first to objectively characterize sleep in mothers and children in an agrarian community with limited access to electricity, utilizing data from the Ghana Randomized Air Pollution and Heath Study (GRAPHS). Methods The GRAPHS cohort, a cluster-randomized trial, evaluated the efficacy of clean fuels on birthweight and infant pneumonia incidence in central Ghana. The study initially recruited pregnant women and newborns in 2013. This study is now utilizing wrist-actigraphy to analyze sleep-wake patterns among mothers and children of GRAPHS. We have thus far analyzed actigraphy in 39 mothers and 49 children (including 25 mother-child pairs), using the Motionlogger-MicroWatch with the Cole-Kripke algorithm to assess total sleep time (TST). We report baseline characteristics and sleep-wake patterns of our sample. Results Mean age of mothers was 33.5 years, (range 22-48), and mean age of children was 3.9 years (3-4). Average nights recorded were 4 (standard deviation [SD] 2.1). For mothers, average median time-in-bed was 7.9 (SD 1.2) hours, TST was 6.4 (SD .9) hours, and sleep efficiency was 82% (SD 7.9). Median bedtime was 9:33pm (SD 1.5 hours), and median wake-time was 5:56am (SD 1.4 hours). For children, average median time-in-bed was 9.9 (SD 1.0) hours, TST was 8.2 (SD 0.9) hours, and sleep efficiency was 83% (SD 6). Median bedtime was 8:03pm (SD 0.8 hours), and median wake-time was 6:06am (SD 0.6 hours). There was no correlation between sleep measures in mother-child pairs. Conclusion In an agrarian Ghanaian community with limited access to electricity, objective sleep measures in women were similar to prior studies conducted in indigenous/rural populations of developing African countries (Ndiaye et.al.2007, Samson et.al.2016), though data in children is lacking for comparison. When compared with post-industrialized countries, objective sleep measures for this age group of non-gravid women are sparse. In toddlers however, TST was lower in our cohort when compared with objective sleep amongst toddlers in industrialized nations. Support 2K24HL109156-06A1

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine the social anxiety scale for high school students (ESKO) in terms of psychometric properties. The research has been studied on 200 students in total in the academic year of 2017–2018 in Samsun Sema Cengiz Büberci Technical and Vocational High School, Samsun Canik Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and Samsun Gazi Anatolian High School. The ESCT consists of three sub-scales: fear of negative evaluation (ODK), social avoidance and unrest in general situations (G-SKHD) and social avoidance and unrest in new situations (Y-SKHD). When the findings were examined, there was no significant difference between adolescents' gender, age group, number of siblings, mother's education status, mother's profession, mother's self or stepmother, father's education status, mother's or father's status and family income. A significant difference was found between the social anxiety level of the adolescents, whether the mother was her own or stepdaughter, and the father's occupation and the rent or self-ownership of the house. Keywords: Social anxiety, adolescent, scale, reliability, validity.

Abstract:
Aim The purpose of this study was to assess the attitude of family physicians toward a child with delayed growth and development. Background Primary healthcare professionals play a key role in monitoring growth and development, the best indicator of the child’s health status. If delayed growth and development can be detected early, then it is usually possible to restore functioning. Methods This descriptive study was performed in Samsun, Turkey, in May and June 2015. In total, 325 family physicians were included. The study consisted of two parts. In the first session of the research, the story of an 18-month-old child with delayed growth and development was presented using visual materials. An interview between the child’s mother and a member of primary healthcare staff was then enacted by two of the authors using role-playing. Subsequently, participants were given the opportunity to ask the mother and member of primary healthcare staff questions about the case. During the sessions, two observers observed the participants, took notes and compared these after the presentation. In the second part of the study, the participants were asked to complete a questionnaire consisting of three open-ended questions. Findings When asking questions of the mother, family physicians generally used accusatory and judgmental language. One of the questions most commonly put to the mother was ‘Do you think you are a good mother?’ Family physicians were keen to provide instruction for the patient and relatives. Family physicians to a large extent thought that the problem of a child with delayed growth and development can be resolved through education. Conclusions Family physicians’ manner of establishing relations with the patient and relatives is inappropriate. We therefore think that they should receive on-going in-service training on the subject.

Abstract:
Midway throughthe old curiosity shop(1840–41), Quilp returns home to discover his own wake in progress upstairs. He has been absent for three days, dogging the footsteps of the friends and family searching for Nell: materializing at Little Bethel, the chapel Kit's mother attends, or rising from the larder of the inn to which the single gentleman and Kit's mother retire after discovering from Mrs. Jarley that they have just missed Nell. Quilp's wife, having heard nothing from him all this time, has concluded that he has drowned, and so Quilp finds her, her mother, and the lawyer Sampson Brass at work on a descriptive advertisement for his corpse. As Quilp looks on, the group insultingly anatomizes him – “Large head, short body, legs crooked” (Dickens 382; ch. 49) – a process punctuated by the slightly inebriated Brass's musings on the afterlife to which the dwarf might have flown. Brass considers the possibility that the recently deceased might be at that moment watching from the next world, and this thought leads to another platitude about the dead:“I can almost fancy” said the lawyer shaking his head, “that I see his eye glistening down at the very bottom of my liquor. When shall we look upon his like again? Never, never! One minute we are here” – holding his tumbler before his eyes – “the next we are there” – gulping down its contents, and striking himself emphatically a little below the chest – “in the silent tomb.” (381; ch. 49)Brass's sentiments are, at least for a moment, tantalizingly vague. We, of course, know precisely where Quilp is – behind the door – but Dickens's suspension of Brass's speech until the lawyer has finished his drink seems to offer a much less definite possibility: that once the dead are no longer “here,” they are simply “there.” But where, when it comes to the future life, is that? Only in the silent tomb? For all its lack of seriousness, this scene gets to the heart of a fundamental curiosity in this novel about what might await us in the next life. In other words, while readers of the novel have tended to focus most intently on whether Little Nell might die, the novel itself seems equally interested in what might happen to Nell – and to us –afterdeath.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper challenges the work of Louis Feldman by raising some questions about his methodological approach to the study of Josephus' Antiquitates Judaicae and then by reconsidering Josephus' story of Samson. Against Feldman, the paper demonstrates that Josephus does not emphasize Samson's wisdom, courage/bravery, and moderation; neither does Josephus protect Samson against the charge of injustice nor diminish the role of God so as to present Samson as a human hero. Rather, Josephus' image of Samson is akin to the one found in the book of Judges, and the biblical Samson is hardly a virtuous character.

AbstractIn this article, I discuss how Lovis Corinth's painting of The Blinded Samson-a highly autobiographical work-led me to see a tragic aspect of the biblical character that I was previously unable to entertain seriously. The discussion is intended to provide an example of the fruitfulness of allowing for a mutual influence between the Bible and the arts. The Bible has inspired artists for centuries and will probably continue to do so; it is also the case that artistic interpretations can influence biblical interpretation in unexpected ways.

Literary of a child whose mother tongue is Javanese is Javanese literature that is still written today. However, Javanese child literature in the form of a song (poem) is very rare. Most of the Javanese child literature is written in the form of prose (prose). One of the Javanese child literature is a Serat Wiyata Adi (SWA), the work of Samsoe Hadiwijata, published by Balai Pustaka. The work is a medium that is used by the author to build the Javanese child characters in the 1920s. The research problem is how SWA plays a role as 1920s child character builder media through Javanese child literature. The purpose of this research is to reveal the SWA as child character builder media in the 1920s through Javanese child literature. The theory in the study is structuralism that can view the potential of language written by the author, both at the level syntagmatic and paradigmatic. Therefore, research data is reading text or literature text, data collection method in SWA research is done by reading whole works (from beginning to end). Analysis of the SWA is done by observing on relations and a series of built values that is manifested in the text. Therefore, the text builds child character.

Abstract:
The Samson narrative is notable for its cycles of violence and revenge. Sometimes this has been understood to be an expression of lex talionis (‘an eye for an eye’); indeed, Samson appears to assert as much, though his actions do not match up to the ideal. This paper argues that while the narrator permits Samson to make this claim, he demonstrates that a far more sinister dynamic is at work: namely, Girardian mimesis and scapegoating. At the centre of the rivalry between Israel and the Philistines is Samson, ‘monsterised’ by both sides, and represented in hulk-like terms. His sexual rivalry with his Philistine ‘companions’ embodies the rivalry between the two nations. Using a Girardian hermeneutic reveals how the cycles of violence are, in fact, an escalating form of mimesis, which twice approach crisis, but conclude with Samson escaping from the scapegoating role by taking matters into his own hands.

The paper deals with the 12. C. reconstruction of the Cathedral of Pécs. The romanesque reliefs now deco-rating the entrance zone of the crypt are in their secondary position. Through thorough examination the possibility of a great western front arises. Within the reliefs of the samson cycle the so-called tree-pulling samson depicts a unique rep-resentation. Various impects yielded in the formation of the medieval conception of the Samson figure.

Abstract:
The biblical story of the life of Samson hides much from the reader&&the Book of Judges has deleted from the story elements that were deemed improper for the book’s placement among the Holy Scriptures. In this article, the author shows how the Bible transforms Samson from a mythological hero, the son of a god, to a mere mortal whose extraordinary strength came through the spirit of God that rested with him so long as he kept his Nazirite vows. The biblical storyteller could not prevent the story of Samson from entering into the biblical corpus since it was a tale of tremendous popularity. He thus told it in such a way as to bring it closer to his monotheistic beliefs and world-view. In its ‘biblical’ form the story does not bring honor to the figure of Samson, and so his placement as the last of the judges in the Book of Judges prepares the reader for the establishment of the institution of kingship, in the Book of Samuel.
