Abstract:
A simple box model of a a high-latitude two-layer ocean, first developed by Martinson et al., 1981, is applied to four Arctic regions connected together: the Greenland Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the Arctic Ocean, and the Greenland Gyre. The latter, in fact, is a small convective region embedded in the northwest corner of the Norwegian Sea region. The model for each region consists of a thermodynamic ice layer that covers two layers of salty water which can, under specific conditions, become statically unstable and hence create a state of active overturning. The system is forced by monthly mean at

The addressed issue for this report is the making of a model, which represents the power system in Great Britain. This model is connected to an already existing model of Northern Europe in order to study how the present power systems are affected by eventual connections between Great Britain and Norway and the profitability of these. A model for 2020 is also created in order to study how increased wind generation are affecting such cables. The study on caprock leakage in the North Sea consists of two aspects: first, leakage as Indicated by thermogenic wet gas, which was a survey study comprising the UK and Norwegian North Sea on fifty wells in forty fields. The second, a case study on Valhail well 2/8-8, which dealt with the geochemical evaluation of the caprock for leaked petroleum and the petrophysical characterization of the caprock. The result of the survey study indicate that thermogenic wet gas can serve as a reliable and diagnostic indicator of caprock leakage. High wet gas heights (i.e. ̲> lOOOm) were observed for fractu

In petroleum fields, the essence of well placement is to develop and maintain petroleum reservoirs in order to achieve maximum production for economic benefit. Maximum production can be achieved with more oil wells, but few optimal numbers of wells in good location reduces economic costs and increase recovery. The best location for the placement of oil, gas or water wells depends on reservoir and fluid properties, well and surface equipment specifications, as well as economic parameters [1].The objective of the study is to determine the net present value from few well placements in the Norne

The Statfjord Formation was deposited during the Permian-Triassic post-rift period, but its tectonic influence on the paleogeography of the formation is not well understood. The sedimentological character and stratigraphic architecture of shallow-marine reservoirs are strongly controlled by the interplay of physical processes that occur at and near the shoreline (e.g. wave- vs. tide- vs. fluvial-dominated). These aspects can be further complicated by the interplay of tectonics in rift basins through fault block rotation, uplift, and subsidence. Norway has great potential for offshore wind power, but the depths just outside the coast probably make floating wind turbines necessary. In order to use today’s technology for offshore wind turbines with foundations on the seabed, water depths cannot be much larger than 60 meters. It is possible to install the wind turbines at such depths, but the distance to these areas make AC cable transmission difficult because of the reactive power production in the cables. VSC HVDC is a technology well suited for offshore wind power, and HVDC Light is now commercially available for rating up to 1174 MW.
