Abstract:
The viability of seed often decreases during multi-year storage. For seed enhancement technologies (SETs) that apply treatments to native seed prior to sowing in restoration projects, it is important to determine if SETs affect the rate of viability loss in storage to understand if treated seeds can tolerate storage or if they must be sown immediately after treatment. Examining herbicide protection pellet (HPP) seed technology, we conducted germination trials on 10 seedlots of four species to compare three treatments: original bare seed kept in seed storage for 2–3 years, seed retrieved from 2

With one of the lowest forest covers of any European country and the majority consisting of non-native plantations, increasing the amount of native woodland is an urgent need. The natural expansion of native woodland is limited by three main factors in Scotland: browsing by wild deer, a shortage of regeneration niches, and a shortage of seed sources. Abstract:
A method has been developed which takes a single seed earthquake time history and produces multiple similar seed earthquake time histories. These new time histories possess important frequency and cumulative energy attributes of the original while having a correlation less than 30% (per the ASCE/SEI 43-05 Section 2.4 [1]). They are produced by taking the fast Fourier transform of the original seed. The averaged amplitudes are then pared with random phase angles and the inverse fast Fourier transform is taken to produce a new time history. The average amplitude through time is then adjusted to

A method has been developed which takes a seed earthquake time history and modifies it to produce a time-history with a given design response spectrum. It is a multistep process with an emphasis on maintaining phasing during the strong motion duration. Initially, the seed earthquake time history is broken into a series of separate time histories which added together produce the original time history. Each separate time history is drift corrected using modifications only outside the strong motion duration of the seed earthquake time history. This allows the separate time histories to be individ

The evolution of germplasm incorporated into 477 inbred lines of early maize developed in 1981-2019 years are presented here. It is concluded that for modern maize breeding more useful germplasm are alternative heterotic groups Euroflint mixt, Reid Iodent, BSSS-B37 and Lancaster. A comparative study of 20 inbred lines from 3 heterotic groups demonstrated the performance of Reid Iodent germplasm as seed, female parents. Pre-combustion chambers are frequently used in large-bore natural gas engines to improve ignition repeatability and combustion quality while simultaneously enabling substantial engine emission reductions. Specifically, prechambers reduce the carbon footprint of natural gas pipeline engines, and by extension, reduce greenhouse gas emissions from pipeline compressor stations. A study to provide an initial screening of a number of new ignition techniques in a Cooper-Bessemer GMV two-stroke lean burn natural gas engine was conducted using Converge CFD software in order to guide original equipment

We proposed to test these hypotheses along the following specific aims: 1) Determine the subcellular localization of the interaction between eIF3e and other eIF3 subunits, or the COP9 signalosome. 2) Elucidate the biological significance of the varied subcellular localizations of eIF3e through generating Arabidopsis eIF3e alleles

Nymphoides peltata (yellow floatingheart), native to Eurasia, is an invasive plant in the USA, where it grows in relatively isolated but widespread populations. The species is capable of sexual reproduction by seed and asexual reproduction through fragmentation. Although N. peltata is recognized as a noxious weed, little is known about its geographic region of origin or its dispersal mechanisms and relative amount of genetic variation in its adventive range. We conducted a genetic analysis of N. peltata by studying 68 localities across the native range and 47 localities in the adventive range,
