Abstract:
This essay investigates some of the major pandemics in human history and scrutinizes their sociological, economic, and political pay-offs. To what extent can pandemics transform our society? How do the pandemics in history relate to the current? The Plague of Athens caused disappointment towards Greek gods since the Athenians felt they were not getting enough support from Apollo. The Plague of Justinian brought revolts across the empire and led to the end of Classical Antiquity. The Black Death changed the future vision of Europeans significantly because death was omnipresent. Although the death toll of cholera pandemic was limited, it triggered stigmatization, violence, and racism towards Asian people, especially to Indians. The Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés would never have been able to colonize the Aztec civilization without the smallpox outbreak. After an episode of absurdism and Dadaism, the Spanish flu brought the Roaring Twenties with widespread use of radio, dance-halls, jazz, Harlem Renaissance, gay and lesbian scenes, and women’s suffrage. Coronavirus pandemic shows that society is digitizing at light speed among the art world. This essay also shows that our economy is a positive-sum economy in contrast to the zero-sum economy in times of the Black Death and before. There is also a delicate balance that must be maintained between keeping the pandemic under control and respecting the democratic principles. The essay concludes that each pandemic has an idiosyncratic nature and a pandemic can have different effects in different societies or regions in the world.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the population of students studying in Krakow, Poland. This paper presents a meta-analysis of the impact of the epidemic on the lives of students around the world. The aftermath of the pandemic is discussed ranging from obligatory educational changes, sudden transformations in the job market, to the psychosocial consequences of the new circumstances that came with the spread of the virus. An analysis of a study conducted on students from Krakow is presented; it indicates that professors’ preparation for online classes is for the most part unsatisfactory. Interestingly, however, many students are satisfied with the fact that their education is conducted remotely. Abstract:
In the middle of March 2020, Indonesia declared a Covid-19 emergency. This pandemic has an impact on art activities, including the artistic world of graffiti. During this time, the activities of graffiti artists in public spaces were increasingly limited. However, this limitation does not dampen their spirit, especially in terms of organizing exhibitions. Where on May 17, 2020, they held a virtual exhibition titled "Youth Pandemics." This topic is interesting to discuss since organizing a virtual exhibition is a new thing for graffiti artists, especially in Indonesia. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. This study's results reveal that implementing a virtual exhibition gave new alternative space for graffiti artists during a pandemic. Also, a virtual exhibition is a place to gather for graffiti artists amid their social limitations. Pameran Virtual Graffiti “Pandemic Youth” ABSTRAK Medio Maret 2020 Indonesia dinyatakan darurat Covid-19.

Abstract:
Abrams “The Mirror and the Lamps”. The world is currently facing a massive epidemic. This outbreak is known as COVID-19. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on all aspects of people’s lives, including education, health and the economy. COVID-19, unlike other pandemics, is caused by the SARS-Cov-2 virus, which limits all community activities. Everything is done from home. This paper focuses on pandemic issues that are narrated in literary works from the past to the present. Therefore, the problem in this paper is formulated in the form of a question: “How is the pandemic described in classical Indonesian literature and contemporary Indonesian literature? This study uses the literary criticism approach of M.H. Abrams “The Mirror and the Lamps”. Abrams’ literary criticism manifests three functions of literature: literature as a mirror, literature as a lamp, and literature as a medium. The findings show that the pandemic has become the subject of Indonesian literary works, both in classical and contemporary times.

Background Recent pandemics underscore the need to update teaching tools with relevant scenarios, preparing nursing students for future global health challenges. Method An antimicrobial stewardship case study was adapted to include pandemic scenarios in an accelerated nursing program, focusing on a fictional pandemic caused by Endurabacillus pandemica, a multidrug-resistant organism. Results Of 12 students, 8 (67%) reported increased awareness of disaster preparedness, 9 (75%) believed the scenarios effectively illustrated nurses' roles, and 10 (83%) agreed the scenarios accurately depicted challenges of managing resistant bacteria during a pandemic. Ten students (83%) reported the scenarios were engaging, and 11 (91%) found scenarios useful for applying pharmacological concepts. Qualitative feedback commended the realistic scenario progression and decision-making aspects. Conclusion Incorporating pandemic elements into case studies enriches nursing education with realistic experiences, preparing students for future challenges and integrating disaster preparedness without requiring entirely new content. Abstract:
ABSTRACT The Community Partnership Program activity entitled "How to build a spiritual life during the COVID-19 pandemic period" begins with the current phenomenon regarding COVID-19. The existing phenomenon shows that the community is not ready to accept the changes that occur due to pandemic conditions. Changes that occur include a new policy from the government, namely PSBB (Large-Scale Social Restrictions). This new policy was held as a follow-up to the increase in the number of people infected and dying from COVID-19. This also has an impact on the rotation of the economic sector, people are afraid to travel, one of which includes going to places of worship. It takes mental readiness for the community to face the COVID-19 pandemic. Efforts to build a spiritual life during the COVID-19 pandemic have been carried out by increasing communication or friendship, reducing exposure to news from various media, reading holy books, taking time to worship, and listening to spiritual sermons. One of the positive things in this pandemic is that there are more opportunities to get closer to God, who if all this time has been drained more by work. Spiritual life A strong character will enhance each other's spirituality to face the difficult circumstances of the pandemic.

Abstract:
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of 2019 caused various problems for the international community, especially China as the outbreak’s epicenter. With the enactment of a lockdown policy in China, various activities involving human interactions, especially economic activities, are limited and can potentially disrupt the global value chain as China is the world’s factory. In this paper, we examine the impact of the pandemic on the Global Value Chain (GVC) in China. The authors argue that the pandemic has forced the companies that integrated with GVC to rethink their strategy on keeping the production process running well. This paper analyzes the impact of pandemics on the GVC in China by comparing the historical trajectories, actor’s strategies, and regulations before and after the pandemic. We compare these indicators before and after the pandemic to determine how they affect the GVC system and how companies adapt to the disruption by rethinking and readjusting their strategies. Thus, the analysis can conclude whether the fragmented GVC system is still relevant or needs an entirely new system with more resistance to phenomena like the COVID-19 pandemic. Keywords: The COVID-19 pandemic, Lockdown, Fragmented Global Value Chain, Companies Operated in ChinaMerebaknya pandemi COVID-19 di penghujung tahun 2019 menimbulkan berbagai permasalahan bagi dunia internasional khususnya Tiongkok sebagai episentrum penyebaran virus.

In this paper we model the dynamics of a spreading pandemic over a country using a new dynamical and decentralised differential model with the main objective of studying the effect of different policies of social isolation (social distancing) over the population to control the spread of the pandemic. A probabilistic infection process with time lags is introduced in the dynamics with the main contribution being the proposed model to explicitly look at levels of interaction between towns and regions within the considered country. We believe the strategies and findings here will help practitioners, planners and Governments to put in place better strategies to control the spread of pandemics, thus saving lives and minimizing the impact of pandemia on socio-economic development and the populations livelihood.

Abstract:
This article assesses the pandemic and post-pandemic situation from a theological lens. The Covid-19 pandemic abruptly halted the order of life. Covid-19 imposes a new lifestyle that seems to persist even after the pandemic is considered to have passed. In this regard, it is no longer possible to see the pandemic as "abnormal." The best option for understanding the pandemic is to accept it as a new reality and respond to it accordingly, including spiritually. The word "spiritual" in this article refers to realizing the significance of Christ's presence during the pandemic and even after the pandemic. In a very dynamic and utterly uncertain world, it takes an effort to live in Christ, which is also very dynamic and emerges in and through uncertainty. This idea is constructed based on emergentism and evolution, in particular Ilia Delio's idea about The Emergent Christ, and Gordon Kaufman's ideas about serendipitous creativity. The goal is to understand Christ as a certainty as well as uncertainty and as a spiritual way of living in the pandemic and post-pandemic. By living the uncertain Christ, Christian spirituality is being invited to live a love that is embracing, unifying, and always new. This spirituality is what is needed to support pandemic and post-pandemic life.

Abstract:
One of the most pressing and consequential problems in infectious disease research is to better understand the potential of viruses to cause a pandemic, or, in simple terms, determine which virus will cause the next pandemic. We here define pandemics as WHO-declared pandemics, or disease outbreaks commonly referred to as pandemics that predate the WHO pandemic framework. Despite extensive research in the field of infectious diseases in recent decades, all pandemics have found us unprepared, with enormous losses of human lives, tremendous costs for public health, and vast and potentially long-lasting economic losses. Here, we discuss viruses that may cause a pandemic in the future.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, both NGOs and media around the world had reported an increase in domestic violence rates. Moreover, the nature of this violence has changed during the pandemic; monitoring organizations’ reports highlight both a rise in aggression and the emergence of violence in those families that were free from it before the pandemic. However, official statistics from Poland do not confirm these observations. The paper analyzes the relationship between the COVID-19 pandemic and domestic violence in Poland. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses were carried out based on Google Community Mobility Reports, Blue Card statistics, reported crime statistics, the Police Command Support System, NGO statistics, and 27 in-depth interviews conducted in 2020 with experts affiliated to law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organizations. A full picture of domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be made other than through analysis of a comprehensive body data, with cross-checks of various data sources.

Abstract:
Pregnant women undergo physiological changes that make them a challenging group of patients during pandemic respiratory diseases, as previously found during H1N1 2009 pandemic and recently ratified in COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis on 5888 hospitalized women for H1N1 flu pandemic (2190 pregnant and 3698 non-pregnant) and 64,515 hospitalized women for COVID-19 pandemic (5151 pregnant and 59,364 non-pregnant), from the Brazilian national database, to compare demographic profile, clinical aspects, and mortality in childbearing aged women during both pandemics. Additionally, the effect of being pregnant was compared between both pandemics. In both pandemics, pregnant women were younger than non-pregnant women. Overall, pregnant women had lower frequencies of comorbidities and were less symptomatic. Among hospitalized women, pregnant women presented lower mortality rates than non-pregnant women (9.7% vs. 12.6%, p = 0.002 in the H1N1 pandemic and 9.7% vs. 17.4%, p < 0.001 in the COVID-19 pandemic) and this difference was statistically more pronounced in the COVID-19 pandemic, even after balancing pregnant and non-pregnant groups regarding age and chronic diseases.

Abstract:
Epidemics and pandemics are kind of the regular disasters that not only threaten human health, but also affect economy, social and politic life of many societies and civilizations. In the timeline of human history, there have long been a lot of catastrophic epidemics, rapidly spreading all over the world, leading to massive deaths and becoming horrible challenges to human existence. They included the plague of Antonine in Ancient Rome; the Justinian pandemic and ``the Black Death'' in the Medieval period; the pandemic of cholera and the Asian plague in the modern age; the 1918- 1919 flu pandemic, the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the influenza pandemic in 2009 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019-2020. The main infectious diseases that cause pandemics in human history are plagued, smallpox, cholera and flu. By approaching the macrohistory and environmental history, the article made some overviews of epidemics and pandemics in human history from ancient ages to modern ages. Firstly, the article researches the terms ``epidemic, pandemic" and their levels. Next, the article analyzes the origins of epidemics and pandemics, the causes of their appearance, including biological factors, natural conditions and social conditions. Then, the article presents the outbreaks, spreads and impacts of some significant epidemics and pandemics in human history. Hence, the article also initially evaluates some response measures to epidemics and pandemics in history.

Abstract:
Out of the many pandemics and epidemics that India has gone through in the last two centuries, two pandemics have been chosen-the 1918 Influenza pandemic and the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, to be compared with the current state of affairs with the Covid-19 pandemic. Critical review and analysis of pandemic preparedness and India’s response to the three pandemics was made through PubMed cited articles, exclusive reports from the Government in 1918, and authentic news coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic in line of healthcare, logistics and communication. Increase in healthcare facilities, laboratory services and research capacities noted through the three pandemics. Better surveillance methods and improved awareness of the public observed over the years. The readiness of the country for emergency measures with some inequalities discussed. Three different pandemics have been compared with an adequate interval between them barring the factor of healthcare inequity and virulence of the respective organism. It should be noted that there is no single solution for combating pandemics. Combined measures put together can help towards facing them with ease the next time around.

Abstract:
The study assesses the importance of monetary policy in the fight against global pandemics. Specifically, the study delves into United State’s monetary policy responses to the unprecedented COVID 19 pandemic; a global pandemic that pushed governments across the globe to institute strict measures as well as impose restrictions in their quest to contain the virus and ultimately minimize its economic ramifications. As such, the study compares the impact of monetary policy on economic growth (Real GDP) during the pandemic as against the pre-pandemic periods with the goal of assessing its relative impact on ensuring economic stability. The research shows that the impact of traditional monetary policy tools on economic stability and growth diminished during the Covid 19 pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period. The pandemic, therefore, introduced a novel economic dynamic, one that various world economies were evidently not ready for. The result of the study calls for a holistic and adaptive monetary policy in periods that engender major economic uncertainties, such as global pandemics. The study shall add to the discourse regarding the limitation of monetary policy during pandemics. It shall provide suggestions that seek to enhance economic resilience and provide pertinent information that could potentially be incorporated into designing strategies that minimize the economic impact of pandemics in the future. Abstract:
Throughout history, the world has faced various diseases, some of which have become pandemics. A pandemic means a disease whose epidemic has spread beyond several continents. For example, the AIDS and Covid-19 pandemics have been the closest pandemics in the past years. Bacteria and viruses often cause these diseases. Some of these diseases that have become pandemics have been transmitted to humans by animals as carriers or mediators and have caused disease. These diseases are called zoonotic. The first disease that became pandemic can be mentioned as the plague disease first occurred during the rule of the Parthians. The battle between the Romans and the Parthians in the Tigris, region caused the Antonine plague pandemic that spread to Europe in 165-180 AD. Plague has always been among the diseases with the highest mortality. After that, other terrible diseases such as smallpox with 56 million deaths, or the Spanish flu with 50 million deaths appeared. The latest pandemic that we have been involved in is the COVID-19 pandemic, which was declared by the WHO as a new pandemic on March 11, 2020. We can study past pandemics and learn from them how to deal with future pandemics in order to have the lowest death rate. Maybe another pandemic is coming. According to the statistical data of the coronavirus family, from 1890 to 2019, they have been the cause of four pandemics, and in the last three pandemics, we have seen the distance between them decrease and they become stronger, the possibility of another epidemic in the next seven years from the family there is a coronavirus. By studying historical, statistical, and medical sources, this article examines and provides complete information regarding the pandemics that have existed in history

Abstract:
The interconnectedness of modern societies and global mobility has amplified the risk of infectious disease outbreaks escalating into pandemics. Global health security involves proactive efforts to detect, prevent, and respond to emerging health threats before they become widespread crises. Historical pandemics like the Black Death and the Spanish flu highlight the catastrophic consequences of uncontained outbreaks. Despite advancements in healthcare infrastructure, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed gaps in preparedness, emphasizing the need for enhanced global surveillance, cross-sectoral collaboration, and technological innovations. This paper explores the historical context of pandemics, key components of pandemic preparedness, and the role of global coordination and technology in mitigating future health threats. It calls for stronger international collaboration and investment in healthcare systems to ensure resilience in the face of future pandemics. Abstract:
The pandemic spread of the novel H1N1 virus in 2009 was unusual in that the attack rates and mortality rates were often lower than in earlier pandemics. However, most affected populations reported that morbidity and mortality were greater in younger adults than in children or older persons, reproducing the age distribution of earlier pandemics. A small proportion of affected persons became so ill that they required intensive care or died. Aboriginality, pregnancy and obesity were risk factors for severe disease, but many patients requiring intensive care had no identifiable risk factors. The pandemic features in 2009 can be explained, at least in part, in immunological terms. As with earlier pandemics, older people were probably protected by specific antibodies resulting from exposure to a similar virus which last circulated when they were children. In 2009, as in earlier pandemics, children were relatively protected against their first exposure to the new virus by the strength of their innate immune response, while many people of all ages were protected in whole or in part by short-lived, strain-transcending immunity resulting from their most recent exposure to seasonal influenza. On this view, the individuals developing severe disease were those who were too young to be protected by specific high-avidity antibodies, too old to be well-protected by innate immunity, and unlucky enough to have missed out on recent exposures to seasonal influenza.
