There are two kinds of structural transformations in the crystalline solid state: solid state reactions, in which the product chemically different from the starting material can be isolated, and polymorphic transitions, when the phases have different organization of identical molecules in the crystal structures. As a consequence, the starting and the final phases of a solid state reaction differ in the melt and vapor, while different polymorphic modifications are identical in melt or gas phase. Some examples of the different phase transitions in the solid state are described in detail: the π-m

Abstract:
The effect of heat treatment of the Ti-45Nb alloy in the UFG state on its structural parameters (lattice parameters, volumetric phase ratio, sizes of coherent scattering regions, residual normal stresses) and their relationship with heat capacity have been studied. It has been established that the different character of the temperature dependence of the heat capacity for the Ti-45Nb alloy in the UFG and CC states is associated with the structural-phase features of the alloy in the UFG state: the two-phase structure of a-grains and b-grains, dispersion-hardened by the ω-phase, and phase transit

Changes in the microstructure parameters, phase composition and magnetic properties of rapid quenched Nd-rich Nd14Fe79B7 alloy caused by thermomagnetic measurement (TM) were studied using XRD methods of phase analysis, crystallite size and lattice microstrain determination. The observed changes were analyzed between the optimized magnetic state of this alloy and state after TM up to 800oC. Measurement of magnetic properties was carried out on the SQUID magnetometer at ambient temperature. The obtained experimental results show that the investigated alloy in the optimized magnetic state has nea

The article deals with issues related to the mechanism of solidification of oils. The authors present the results of a dielectric investigation of structural-phase transitions in oils from the fields of Tyumen region in the temperature range -110 ÷ +20 °С. The dielectric relaxation of oils has been established, the values of the activation energy and dielectric relaxation time have been calculated. The phase transition determined by dielectric relaxation is interpreted as a transition from the glassy state to the associated state. The glass transition of oils, accompanied by the cessation of i

The results of the X-ray phase and thermodynamic analysis of phase formation in the Zr-Y-O system which is the initial material for formation of yttrium of stabilized ceramics on the basis of dioxide of zirconium are presented. It is established that the material is multiphase and contains monoclinic, cubic and tetragonal modifications of dioxide of zirconium which weight ratios differ considerably.

The paper presents results of investigation of Fe65.3–100Zr34.7–0N7.5–0 films prepared by dc magnetron deposition on glass substrates and subsequent 1-hour annealing at temperatures of 300–600 °C. The influence of the chemical and phase compositions and structure of the films, which were studied by TEM, SEM, XRD, and GDOES, on their mechanical properties determined by nanoindentation and static magnetic properties measured by VSM method is analyzed. The studied films exhibit the hardness within a range of 14–21 GPa, low elastic modulus (the value can reach 156 Gpa), and an elastic recovery of
