Abstract:
We sought to determine the effects of substituting parts of aerobic training (AT) by resistance training (RT) on metabolic syndrome (MetS) factors. MetS patients (aged 56 ± 7 years; body mass index 33 ± 5 kg·m−2 and 3.9 ± 0.8 MetS factors) were randomized to undergo 1 of the following isocaloric, 16-week long exercise programs: (i) cycling 4 bouts of 4-min at 90% of maximal heart rate (HRmax) followed by 3 sets of 12 repetitions of 3 lower limb free-weight exercises (high-intensity interval training (HIIT)+RT group; n = 33), (ii) cycling 5 bouts of 4 min at 90% of HRmax (HIIT+HIIT group; n = 33), or (iii) no exercise control group (n = 21). We measured the evolution of all 5 MetS components (z score), cardiorespiratory fitness (maximal oxygen uptake), leg strength and power (leg press 1-repetition maximum (1RM) and countermovement jump (CMJ)), fasting blood glucose (FG), fasting insulin, and insulin resistance (homeostasis model assessment 2). Both training groups improved maximal oxygen uptake similarly (170 ± 310 and 190 ± 210 mL O2·min−1; P < 0.001) and z score (−0.12 ± 0.29 and −0.12 ± 0.31 for HIIT+RT and HIIT+HIIT, respectively; P < 0.02). However, only HIIT+RT improved CMJ (P = 0.002) and leg press 1RM above the HIIT+HIIT group (21% vs 6%; P < 0.001). Furthermore, FG only decreased in the HIIT+RT group (5%; P = 0.026, time × group). Our findings suggest that substitution of part of HIIT by leg RT improves glucose control in MetS individuals. Novelty Most studies addressing the efficacy of endurance versus resistance training are not matched by energy expenditure. We found that substituting 20% of AT with RT reduces hyperglycemia in MetS individuals. Training recommendations to regain glycemic control in MetS individuals should include resistance training.

Abstract:
In this work, a compact, stable dual-wavelength Q-switched laser with a multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) slurry as saturable absorber (SA) which is independent of any host polymer has been demonstrated. The MWCNTs slurry is fabricated and the peak shift is investigated using Raman spectroscopy. The passively Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) oscillated simultaneously at 1532.32 nm and 1556.97 nm with 24.67 nm peak separation, at threshold and maximum input power of 26mW and 74mW respectively.By increasing the input pump power from 36 mW to 74 mW, the pulse train repetition rate increases from 25 kHz to 78 kHz, while the pulse width is reduced from 17.84 us to 5.24 ?s. The generated pulse produced maximum pulse energy and maximum peak power of 11.97 nJ and 2.05 mW, respectively at maximum input pump power. The recorded signal to noise ratio is about 62 dB and shows that the proposed MWCNTs slurry based SAis able to generate dual wavelength Q-switched pulse laser with high stability pulse. Abstract:
ABSTRACTOwing to energy conservation of waste heat, Lead telluride, PbTe, based materials have promising good thermoelectric properties around a range of middle temperature (Fig. 1, from 300 to 600°C), due to their high melting point, fine chemical stability, and the high figure of merit Z. The general physical properties and factors affecting the figure of merit have been reviewed. This research is focused on the n-type of PbTe materials and collocated with analysis of densities, hardness, elastic modulus, and thermoelectric properties thermoelectric figure of merit ZT=GS2T/κ (where G is electrical conductivity, S is Seebeck coefficient , T is absolute temperature, and κ is thermal conductivity). Room temperature hardness and Young’s modulus are measured by nano-indentation. In this study, the hot-press compacts under the pressure of 4 ton/cm2 can reach the maximum density about 8.2 g/cm3, and hardness and elastic modulus are 0.6 GPa and 70 GPa, respectively. The figure of merit value (ZT) of PbTe in low temperature (around 340°C) was found about 1 with carrier concentration above 1019 cm−3. These results also indicate that the powder metallurgy parameters provide potentialities for further increase of the high efficiency of energy conversion in PbTe materials.

Abstract:
Dark energy affects the abundance and evolution of clusters owing to their dependence on the geometry of the Universe and the power spectrum. Usually, there exits the degeneracy between σ8 and the matter energy density contrast [Formula: see text]. We avoid this by using the explicit dark energy dependent rms linear mass fluctuation σ8 which is consistent with the CMB normalization for general constant dark energy equation of state, ω Q . When we use the correct value of the critical density threshold δc = 1.58 into the cluster number density n calculation in the Press–Schechter (PS) formalism, PS formalism predicts the cluster number consistent with both simulation and observed data at the high mass region. The improved coefficients of Sheth–Tormen (ST) formalism by using the correct δc is also obtained. We found that changing ω Q by Δω Q = -0.1 from ω Q = -1.0 causes the changing of the comoving numbers of high mass clusters of M = 1016h-1M⊙ by about 20 and 40% at z = 0 and 1, respectively.

Abstract:
The uniform scattered fields of the cylindrical wave from a parabolic surface are obtained with the theory of the boundary diffraction wave (TBDW). The non-uniform diffracted field is calculated with the regenerated vector potential and rearranged by considering the Fresnel function to obtain the uniform solution. The uniform scattered fields are calculated as the sum of the diffracted and the geometrical optic fields. The numerical analyses of the diffracted and scattered fields in both uniform and non-uniform solutions are in harmony with the literature. Full Text: PDF ReferencesBaker, B. B., Copson, E. Abstract:
The role of Muslim women in early childhood education is very urgent in education because women are the first source of knowledge for children. There are many supporting and inhibiting factors for the role of Muslim women executors. This study aims to find the role of female educators in Islam as a dual function that functions as a teacher, parent, and community member. The research method uses qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The findings show the role of Muslim women is not ideal, including the role of women as educators in schools, parents, and education experts. Women's awareness of early childhood education is still very low. Suggestions for future research to dig deeper into the causes of the role of women is still low, and influence government policy in increasing the role of Muslim women or non-Muslim women. Abstract:
Abstract:
The primary purpose of this study is to investigate students' perceptions about the characteristics of creativity and engagement in solving non-routine problems. It involved 64 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) university students, who participated in a two-year research project in New Zealand during which participants were given opportunities to utilise puzzle-based learning in their courses. Comparing open-ended responses of two surveys, this article focuses on student perceptions about attributes of creativity in non-routine problem-solving. These results have pedagogical implications for tertiary stem education. References A. J. Baroody and A. Dowker. The development of arithmetic concepts and skills: Constructive adaptive expertise. Abstract:
Abstract. In order to solve the problems of the failure of disposable tip insertion which happens in the pipetting process of most multi-station and high-throughput pipetting devices, this paper proposes a high-rigidity screw-type pipette shaft–disposable tip assembly mechanism with excellent auto-centering effects based on the principle of the ball screw drive. The stiffness model of the new pipetting device is established, and its stiffness and axial deformation are analyzed. This new mechanism was introduced to a multi-station and high-throughput pipetting workstation, and the process of pipetting disposable tips is simulated by ANSYS software. The analytical results show that the stiffness value of the new pipetting device is approximately 90 N/µm, and the amount of deformation of the z-axis manipulator is reduced by about 60 % compared to the original pipetting device. Finally, physical verification of the prototype was carried out in the work. The test results show that the new pipetting workstation can increase the tightening rate of the tips by approximately 12 % after optimization when 96 tips are inserted in a single press. In addition, the pass rate of the tightness test of the optimized pipetting workstation has increased by approximately 20 %.

Abstract:
Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) is a leafy, annual, solanaceous plant grown commercially for its leaves. Guizhou Province produces more than 30% of the total Chinese tobacco crop. In July 2010, a disease was observed in a commercial field of 5-month-old N. tabacum plants in Bijie, Guizhou in southwestern China. Symptoms first appeared on the leaves as small spots that later increased in size and developed into expanded, dark brown lesions covered with green-gray spore masses. Lesions expanded rapidly under cool, humid conditions. Isolates of Botrytis cinerea were collected from diseased leaves with typical symptoms. Diseased leaf samples were washed with distilled water three times, placed in a moist chamber, and incubated at 25°C in darkness for 48 h to encourage sporulation. Spores produced on leaves were transferred to individual agar discs (5 mm in diameter) with an inoculating needle and then the agar discs were transferred to potato dextrose agar (PDA) and incubated at 25°C for 7 days. Fungal colonies were at first colorless and later became gray to brown when the conidia differentiated. The size of conidia ranged from 5.0 to 9.5 × 6.5 to 12.5 μm (average 7.3 × 8.7 μm) based on 50 spore measurements. Microsclerotia produced in the culture were round or irregular and ranged from 1.2 to 3.0 × 1.0 to 2.5 mm (average 2.1 × 2.0 mm). The pathogen was identified as B. cinerea Pers.:Fr on the basis of morphology and sequence of ITS1-5.8s-ITS2 region of rDNA amplified by PCR using universal primers ITS-1 (5′-TCCGTAGGTGAACCTGCGG-3′) and ITS-4 (5′-TCCTCCGCTTATTGATATGC-3′). The sequence (GenBank Accession No. HQ902163) exactly matched the sequences of two Botryotinia fuckeliana (anamorph B. cinerea) accessions, (e.g., GenBank Accession Nos. HM849615.1 and HM849047.1). Koch's postulates were conducted by wound inoculating five tobacco leaves (cv. K326) after surface disinfesting them with 5% NaOCl. Plugs of the fungus (5 mm in diameter) obtained from the colony margins were transferred onto 3 × 3 mm wounds made with a needle on the surface of five sterilized leaves. Inoculated leaves were incubated at 25°C, 100 to 120 μE·m–2·s–1, relative humidity >80%, and 16 h light per day for disease development. Typical symptoms developed on leaves within 7 days after inoculation. The pathogen was reisolated from affected leaves but not from the noninoculated control leaves. Botrytis gray mold blight has been recorded on N. tabacum in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and northern China (1–3). However, to our knowledge, this is the first report of Botrytis blight on N. tabacum in Guizhou Province of China and the disease must be considered in existing disease management practices. Abstract:
Eccentrically biased exercise results in skeletal muscle damage and stimulates adaptations in muscle, whereby indexes of damage are attenuated when the exercise is repeated. We hypothesized that changes in ultrastructural damage, inflammatory cell infiltration, and markers of proteolysis in skeletal muscle would come about as a result of repeated eccentric exercise and that gender may affect this adaptive response. Untrained male ( n = 8) and female ( n = 8) subjects performed two bouts ( bout 1and bout 2), separated by 5.5 wk, of 36 repetitions of unilateral, eccentric leg press and 100 repetitions of unilateral, eccentric knee extension exercises (at 120% of their concentric single repetition maximum), the subjects' contralateral nonexercised leg served as a control (rest). Biopsies were taken from the vastus lateralis from each leg 24 h postexercise. After bout 2, the postexercise force deficit and the rise in serum creatine kinase (CK) activity were attenuated. Women had lower serum CK activity compared with men at all times ( P < 0.05), but there were no gender differences in the relative magnitude of the force deficit. Muscle Z-disk streaming, quantified by using light microscopy, was elevated vs. rest only after bout 1 ( P< 0.05), with no gender difference. Muscle neutrophil counts were significantly greater in women 24 h after bout 2 vs. rest and bout 1 ( P < 0.05) but were unchanged in men. Muscle macrophages were elevated in men and women after bout 1 and bout 2 ( P < 0.05). Muscle protein content of the regulatory calpain subunit remained unchanged whereas ubiquitin-conjugated protein content was increased after both bouts ( P < 0.05), with a greater increase after bout 2. We conclude that adaptations to eccentric exercise are associated with attenuated serum CK activity and, potentially, an increase in the activity of the ubiquitin proteosome proteolytic pathway.

Abstract:
Referências:BARON, I; Herslund, M. Abstract:
The enthusiasm in the Tahfidz House (TH) education program especially for children shows an increasing trend in Padang, a modeling city in developing Islāmic character for children. The purpose of this study was to investigate the Tahfidz House program trends development in early childhood in Padang. This study uses qualitative methods with data collection tools, namely inter- views, direct observation, and document analysis. The results showed that: First, the Tahfidz House program attracted public interest because it offered dimensions of character formation such as in- creasing Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Quotient, and Spiritual Quotient. Second, there is a theo- logical reason in the landscape of local people to think that the Qur'an offers a blessing concept in our lives. Third, Tahfidz House existences as non-formal education has two dominant affiliations, namely pure education and based on market interests or capitalization. Abstract:
The mechanical property is one of the important parameters for evaluating micro/nano-scale materials. The measurement of micro/nano-mechanical property usually involves measurements of small displacement and force. To provide a traceable force standard in micro/nano-newton level, we have developed a force measurement system based on electrostatic sensing and actuation techniques. The system mainly consists of a monolithic flexure stage, a three-electrode capacitor and a digital controller. The three-electrode capacitor is utilized as a position sensor, and at the same time an electrostatic force actuator. The force under measurement is balanced by a compensation electrostatic force which is traceable to electrical and length standards. A commercial cantilever-type micro-force probe was used in this calibration experiment. The force probe was brought to contact with and press into the load button (a ruby sphere) of the force measurement system by a closed-loop controlled z-scanner. The spring constant was obtained from the average slope determined from measured force-displacement curves and was found to be (2.26 ± 0.01) N/m where the given uncertainty is one standard deviation. We have successfully demonstrated the calibration of the microforce probe using our self-developed electrostatic sensing and actuating force measurement system. The measured spring constant is consistent with the manufacturer's specification, and the relative standard deviation is less than 0.5%. Note from Publisher: This article contains the abstract only.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT We study the halo mass function and inner halo structure at high redshifts (z ≥ 5) for a suite of simulations within the structure formation ETHOS framework. Scenarios such as cold dark matter (CDM), thermal warm dark matter (WDM), and dark acoustic oscillations (DAOs) of various strengths are contained in ETHOS with just two parameters hpeak and kpeak, the amplitude and scale of the first DAO peak. The extended Press–Schechter (EPS) formalism with a smooth-k filter is able to predict the cut-off in the halo mass function created by the suppression of small-scale power in ETHOS models (controlled by kpeak), as well as the slope at small masses that is dependent on hpeak. Interestingly, we find that DAOs introduce a localized feature in the mass distribution of haloes, resulting in a mass function that is distinct in shape compared to either CDM or WDM. We find that the halo density profiles of all ETHOS models are well described by the NFW profile, with a concentration that is lower than in the CDM case in a way that is regulated by kpeak. We show that the concentration–mass relation for DAO models can be well approximated by the mass assembly model based on the EPS theory, which has been proposed for CDM and WDM elsewhere. Our results can be used to perform inexpensive calculations of the halo mass function and concentration–mass relation within the ETHOS parametrization without the need of N-body simulations.

Abstract:
In November 2006, necrotic calyxes were observed in more than 90% of harvested sweet persimmon fruits (Diospyros kaki L. fil.), cv. Triumph, in orchards located in Huelva Province. Symptoms appeared on sepals as brown-to-black necrotic areas; one to four sepals per fruit could be affected. Necrotic sepal tissues were surface disinfected and placed on potato dextrose agar medium (PDA). A fungus was consistently isolated from affected tissue on 60% of fruits sampled. Isolates formed acervular conidiomata (75.7 ± 4.69 μm in diameter) with fusiform conidia that were straight or rarely curved. Conidia were five celled, including three umbercolored medial cells and hyaline apical and basal cells. All conidia possessed two to three apical appendages and a single basal one. Conidia (N = 60) were 17.03 ± 0.25 μm long × 4.55 ± 0.1 μm wide; the three medial cells were 11.78 ± 0.15 μm long and apical cells were 2.34 ± 0.11 μm, with apical appendages measuring 12.45 ± 0.36 μm. Basal cells were 2.98 ± 0.11 μm and basal appendages were 3.93 ± 0.14 μm long. On the basis of these characteristics, the causal agent was identified as Pestalotiopsis diospyri Sidow et P. Sidow (2), that was previously described as a persimmon pathogen on leaves in Japan (3). To confirm pathogenicity, calyxes of healthy unwounded fruits were sprayed with 3 ml of a conidia suspension (1.5 × 105 conidia per ml) and maintained in moist chambers at 24°C for 10 days. All fruits presented necrotic calyxes, and the pathogen was reisolated from affected tissue in 100% of the samples. P. diospyri has been reported to be present on calyxes of unhealthy persimmon fruits in different productive regions in New Zealand (1), but to our knowledge, this is the first time that pathogenicity of this fungus was demonstrated on sweet persimmon fruits in Spain. Abstract:
Based on the works of Feenberg (2013) and Selwyn (2011; 2014) about the Critical Theory of Technology and the Ideologies of Educational Technology, the aim of this study is to analyse the values of technologies assigned by teachers in the context of in service training. For this, some of their production during the Education in the Digital Culture Latu sensu course was object of a content analyses (BARDIN, 1977). The results show the most prominent values assigned by those teachers towards technology are: 1) Technology as Progress and Efficiency and 2) Technology as Democratic Possibility and Redesign of Education Practices. Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
The paper presents the results of a study of solid-phase equilibria in the Tb–Te system and the thermodynamic properties of terbium tellurides obtained by the methods of electromotive forces and X-ray diffraction analysis. Based on the experimental data, it was established that the TbTe, Tb2Te3, TbTe2 и TbTe3 compounds are formed in the system. For the investigations of the alloys from the two-phase regions TbTe3+Te, TbTe2+TbTe3, and Tb2Te3+TbTe2, the EMF of concentration cells relative to the TbTe electrode was measured. The EMF of concentration cells relative to the terbium electrode was measured for the TbTe+Tb2T3 region. The partial thermodynamic functions of TbTe and Tb in alloys were determined bycombining the EMF measurements of both types in the 300–450 K temperature range, based on which the standard thermodynamic functions of formation and standard entropies of the indicated terbium tellurides were calculated. Abstract:
Abstract Introduction: CML is rare in the first two decades of life comprising only 3% of pediatric and adolescent leukemias. The overall annual incidence is approximately 1 per million children and adolescents and it increases with age (median: 12 yrs, range: 1-18) resulting in an extreme rarity of children affected in the first years of life. Data regarding the clinicopathologic characteristics and response to therapy of childhood CML diagnosed at age <3 years has not been reported yet. Aims and objectives: We studied the epidemiologic and clinical features of patients(pts) with CML <3 years of age and evaluated treatment and long term outcome. Material and Methods: Data from pediatric CML pts (age at diagnosis 0-18 yrs) registered from 2010 until 2017 into the International Pediatric CML Registry (Poitiers, France) under the umbrella of the I-BFM Study Group were retrospectively analyzed. Characteristics and treatment outcome of pts <3 yrs at diagnosis were evaluated from standardized forms. Results: 22/479 pts (4.6%, ratio male/female: 14/8) were enrolled with a median age of 22 months (10-34) and a median weight and height were 9.3 kg (8.1-15.5) and 78 cm (73-98), respectively. The median time period from the first symptoms until final diagnosis was 21 days (2-182). Median spleen size was 12 cm (2-20) and median liver size was 3 cm (2-6) below the costal margins. Major complains and symptoms comprised asthenia (30%), fever (30%), abdominal pain (20%), extramedullary signs (14%), hemorrhage (5%), and weight loss (5%). Median WBC, Hb and platelet counts were 154 600/µl (23 000-892 000), 8.7 g/dl (5,6-11,5) and 311 000/µl (51 000-1 820 000), respectively. All pts underwent BM aspiration but, BM biopsy was performed only in 8/22 children. Philadelphia chromosome and BCR-ABL1 gene rearrangement were detected by cytogenetic and/or molecular techniques (FISH and RQ-PCR). In only 2 (9%) children, additional chromosomal abnormalities were detected by cytogenetics classifying one patient in accelerated phase. Overall 19/22 (86%) children were diagnosed in chronic phase and the remaining 3 pts were in advanced phase (CML-AP: n= 2, CML-BP: n= 1). Median follow-up of the cohort was 78 months (7-196). Treatment: 21/22 pts initially received imatinib at the recommended dose of 260-300 mg/sqm/day while one child received IFN + ARA-C. Imatinib was changed to either dasatinib (n= 5) or nilotinib (n= 1) in 6 children (29%). Thus, 15 pts continued on imatinib. During follow-up, 9/22 (41%) pts underwent HSCT including 2 pts after switching to dasatinib. Molecular response: Major molecular response (MR) was achieved in 10/21 (48%) children on TKI. One child (1/21) on TKI was not followed for MR, but he developed complete cytogenetic remission 4 mo after imatinib treatment. The remaining cohort (6/22; 27%) is alive on TKI without major MR with a median follow-up of 77 m (7-186) and 5/22 (23%) achieved complete MR following HSCT. Adverse effects (AE): 194 AE episodes were reported in 18/22 (82%) pts. Most frequently observed AEs were hematologic (20%), gastrointestinal (16%), infectious (14%), musculoskeletal (14%), skin (12%), metabolic (6%), and HSCT-related (GvHD, 5%). Less frequently AEs comprised psychological (3%), edema (3%), tooth development delay (2%), allergic (2%), neurologic (PRESS syndrome,1%), and renal colic (1%). At last follow up, assessment of puberty status revealed that the majority of children were in Tanner stage 1 or 2 (17/22, 77%). Among these, 7 were >10 years old and showed puberty delay, while pubertal development was normal in the remaining 5/22 pts. Data on growth and development was available in 15/22 (68%) children. The majority had experienced decline of height (93%) and weight (73%). In 4 (27%) and 2 (13%) pts, respectively, measurements were found below the 3rd-10th percentiles. Delta z-score analysis for height and weight revealed that the z-scores in total 3 pts were below -2. Survival: 21/22 (95%) children are alive while one patient died of GvHD. Two pts' last molecular status is unknown. 7/19 pts (37%) are in molecular CR following HSCT and the other 12/19 (63%) are still on TKI. Out of these, 3/12 pts achieved durable CMR with TKI (PCR negative) while the remaining 9/12 pts show either fluctuating (n= 3 ) or no major MR (n= 6). Conclusion: This report demonstrates for the first time the efficacy and long term side effects of upfront imatinib in the so far largest cohort of children with CML diagnosed at very young age. Abstract:
The strong self-damped Lyman α absorption systems present in the spectra of high redshift QSOs represent a unique population of absorber which has recently been associated with the precursors of current disk galaxies. In a low resolution survey for what we have come to call “Lyman α disk systems” performed at Lick Observatory (Wolfe, et al. 1986, Ap. J. Suppl. 61, 249) approximately 18 systems with confirmed damped Lyman α profiles and rest frame equivalent widths greater than 5 Å were detected in a sample of 68 high redshift QSOs (Smith, Cohen and Bradley 1986, Ap. J. 310, 583). Subsequent higher resolution study has shown these systems to have the following properties (Turnshek, et al. 1988, Ap. J., in press): 1.Neutral hydrogen column densities, 2 × 1020 ≤ NHI ≤ 8 × 1021 cm−2.2.Low-mixed ionization state. Typically the low ionization states dominate the high ionization states (e.g. CII ≫ CIV). Some enrichment has occurred, −2≲[X/H]⊙ ≲0.3.Gas density, n ≲ 1 cm−3.4.The gas shows two components, a quiescent (disk) component, σν ≲ 10 km s−1, and a turbulent (halo) component, σν ≲ 20 km s−1. Some systems show only the low velocity dispersion component.5.At least one system intervening toward a radio QSO (Pks 0458-020) shows 21-cm absorption. The system shows multiple cloud structure with σν ≈ 6 km s−1, Ts ≈ 100 K, and structure extended over several kpc on the sky.6.There is evidence that these systems may be self gravitating with scale height of the order of 300 pc.7.These systems represent a unique population of absorber (distinct from the ‘Lyman a forest’ and heavy element systems) covering approximately 20% of the sky to z ≈ 3 and accounting for all of the baryonic matter at that redshift.

Abstract:
Abstract:
A review of: Glover, Steven William, John Addison, Colette Gleghorn, and John Bramwell. “Journal Usage in NHS Hospitals: A Comparison Report of Total Usage at an Acute NHS Trust and a Specialist NHS Trust in the North West of England.” Health Information and Libraries Journal 24.3 (2007): 193-9. Objective - To compare journal usage between an acute National Health Service (NHS) Trust and a specialist NHS Trust located in North West England to provide some evidence as to how well the National Core Content Collection (provided by ProQuest) meets the needs of staff in these settings. Design - Comparative study Setting - An acute NHS Trust, comprising four hospital sites, and a cancer specialist NHS Trust based on a single site. Both Trusts are located in North West England. The cancer specialist NHS Trust is a teaching hospital with undergraduate nurses, medical students, and student radiographers. This Trust is also closely associated with an adjoining cancer research institute. The acute NHS Trust has a large number of healthcare staff in training and was not described as a teaching hospital. Subjects - Staff of the respective NHS Trusts. The staff numbers for each organisation were not provided. Methods - COUNTER usage statistics of online journals, obtained from publisher administration tools, were collected for one year covering the period 1 December 2005 to 30 November 2006. Where available, the number of photocopies made from print journals during the same period by library users for their own use was also included. All full-text downloads of journal articles were counted as part of this study, hence the possibility of double counting if a single article was requested in both HTML and PDF versions. Details of free or open access articles accessed without the need for a username and password were not included in the study. To encourage use of the electronic journals, library services at both Trusts implemented a number of initiatives to maximize publicity. These included direct e-mails to staff, posters, and presentations to staff. Athens registration, required for access to the electronic journal collections, was promoted as part of the induction process for new library users. Staff members were encouraged to apply for the electronic table of contents alert for journals in their area of specialty. An A-Z list of journals was accessible via the Trusts’ intranet and internet sites, and direct links to electronic journals were added to the NHS Dialog/Datastar databases and on PubMed. Main results - The libraries at both Trusts in the study provide the majority of their journals in electronic-only format. In addition to the National Core Content titles, the cancer specialist Trust provides access to an additional five journal collections: Science Direct Health Sciences, Blackwell Synergy Medical and Nursing collection, five journals selected from Nature Publishing Group, selected society journals via HighWire Press and Oxford University Press titles. Staff members of the acute Trust have access to an additional three journal collections: Science Direct Health Sciences, the BMJ Publishing Group (BMJPG) collection and 16 LWW titles via Ovid. During the study period, a total of 93,376 articles were downloaded or copied. Of these, 47,079 articles were downloaded or copied by staff of the cancer specialist NHS Trust and 46,297 articles were downloaded or copied by staff of the acute NHS Trust. The usage of each of the journal collections during the study period for each Trust is shown in the table below with the most used resource shown in bold. Content Provider Cancer Trust Acute Trust HighWire Press Hosted Journals 19,773 (42%) n/a Science Direct Health Sciences 10,808 (23%) 15,844 (34.2%) Nature Publishing Group 6,034 (12.8%) n/a Blackwell Synergy Medical and Nursing 4,487 (9.5%) n/a Oxford University Press 3,387 (7.2%) n/a National Core Content ProQuest 2,118 (4.5%) 13,834 (29.9%) BMJPG journals n/a 5,440 (11.8%) LWW via Ovid n/a 2,279 (4.9%) Photocopies from print journals 472 (1%) 8,900 (19.2%) Total 47,079 46,297 General information regarding some of the commonly used journal titles by staff of each Trust was included in the commentary, but levels of use were not enumerated. Staff of the cancer specialist NHS Trust favoured cancer-related titles, whilst staff of the acute NHS Trust accessed journal titles over a greater range of subject areas. Details of the top titles accessed from the National Core Content collection were not provided for either Trust. A possible reason given for the lower usage level of the National Core Content collection by the cancer specialist NHS Trust compared to the acute NHS Trust was the presence of embargoes on many cancer-related titles within the National Core Content collection. Information about training offered to staff, their level of access to computer facilities, or familiarity with accessing electronic journal collections was not provided. Conclusion - Staff of both Trusts in the study recorded a high level of journal use, with a total of 93,376 articles downloaded or photocopied during the study period. There was a marked difference in the usage patterns of the National Core Content journals between the two Trusts studied with the acute NHS Trust showing a higher proportion of usage (29.9%) compared with the cancer specialist Trust (4.5%). Staff members of the acute NHS Trust accessed a greater range of subject areas, whilst staff those at the cancer specialist NHS Trust favoured cancer-related titles. The results indicated that the National Core Content collection did not meet the information needs of the specialist cancer Trust as well as it met the needs of the more generalist acute Trust. The National Core Content collection appears insufficient to meet the diverse information needs of all NHS staff. Local purchasing of journals, in addition to national level provision, is therefore required to ensure that the needs of local specialties are adequately supported.

Abstract:
The historiography of the development of higher education in Chernihiv region is considered, the pre-Soviet, Soviet and modern stages of this problem are determined; it was found that researchers of the genesis of higher education in Chernihiv region paid great attention to studying the date of establishment, financing and functioning of the Chernihiv Collegium; it was defined that the development of higher education in Chernihiv region was considered by researchers through the study of two components: the system of educational institutions and educational, philanthropic and pedagogical activities of prominent personalities of Chernihiv region. It was found that the Chernihiv Collegium (1700-1786) was the first institution of secondary education in the Left Bank of Ukraine, whose activities were of great importance for the formation and development of the domestic system of higher education. The question of the history of one of the Ukrainian Orthodox colleges was the subject of study by researchers of the XIX century P. Bogoslovsky, M. Dokuchaev, V. Lytynsky, O. Shafonsky. In the first half of the XIX century some information about the Chernihiv Collegium was contained in the works of V.Askochensky, D. BantyshKamensky, M. Bulgakov, M. Markov, M. Markevich. The introduction into scientific circulation of significant archival material on the history of the college began in the second half of the XIX century, the first articles by A. Starodomsky appeared. F. Gumilevsky's works contained factual material that revealed various aspects of the history of the college, educational and philanthropic activities of its founders. A selection of archival materials on the history of the college of researchers M. Blagoveshchensky P. Dobrovolsky S. Nikolsky was published in the local press in the late nineteenth – early XX century; scientific researches of the history of the educational process of Chernihiv region were intensified (O. Andriyashev, O. Vvedensky, P. Wojciechowski, M. Golik, F. Dmytrevsky, P. Dobrovolsky, M. Domontovych, M. Zhdanovych P. Korobka, O. Musin-Pushkin O. Rusov, S. Rusova, M. Sukhomlinov, M. Tutomlin, V. Khyzhnyakov, E. Shulga). Scientists of the Soviet period studied various aspects of the development of education in Chernihiv region in the context of the genesis of education in Ukraine (V. Borysenko M. Zavoloka J. Isayevach, B. Mityurov S. Siropolko Z. Khyzhnyak, N. Ship). The modern period of historiography of the study of the development of higher education in Chernihiv region is presented in the works of A. Borovik, N. Kuzmenko, O. Pronikov, O. Travkina.

Abstract:
A Lycopersicon esculentum (tomato) plant from a commercial property in New Zealand was submitted to the Investigation and Diagnostic Centre for diagnosis in 2003. Fruits had faint yellow ringspots but no obvious symptoms were observed on leaves. No virus particles were observed from tomato and symptomatic herbaceous plants crude sap preparations. Mechanically inoculated Nicotiana clevelandii and N glutinosa developed systemic chlorosis, whereas pinpoint necrotic local lesions were observed on Chenopodium amaranticolor. Chlorotic local lesions were also observed on C. quinoa followed by systemic necrosis. No symptoms were observed on Cucumis sativus, Gomphrena globosa, N. benthamiana, N. sylvestris, or N. tabacum cv. White Burley. Total RNA was extracted from N. glutinosa and C. quinoa leaf samples using the Qiagen (Qiagen Inc., Valencia, CA) Plant RNeasy Kit. Reverse transcription (RT) was carried out by using random hexamer primers and SuperScript II reverse transcriptase (Invitrogen, Frederick, MD) followed with PCR using broad-detection primers targeting the genera Carmovirus, Dianthovirus, Ilarvirus, Tospovirus, (Agdia Inc., Elkhart, IN) and Tombusvirus (2). A positive RT-PCR amplification was obtained only with Ilarvirus primers. The 450-bp product (GenBank Accession No. DQ457000) from the replicase gene had a 97.4% nt and 98.6% aa identity with Spinach latent virus (SpLV; Accession No. NC_003808). An RT-PCR protocol was developed for the specific detection of SpLV. Primers were designed from three SpLV RNA sequences (RNA1: NC_003808; RNA2: NC_003809; RNA3: NC_003810) using the Primer3 software (3). Primers SpLV-RNA1-F (5′-TGTGGATTGGTGGTTGGA-3′) and SpLV-RNA1-R (5′-CTTGCTTGAGGAGAGATGTTG-3′) anneal to the replicase gene from nt 1720 to 2441. Primers SpLV-RNA2-F (5′-GAACCACCGAAACCGAAA-3′) and SpLV-RNA2-R (5′-CCACCTCAACACCAGTCATAG-3′) bind to the polymerase gene from nt 603 to 1038. Primers SpLV-RNA3-F (5′-GCCTTCATCTTTGCCTTTG-3′) and SpLV-RNA3-R (5′-CATTTCATCTGCGGTGGT-3′) amplify the movement protein gene from nt 724 to 936. The predicted amplified product sizes were 722, 436, and 213 bp from RNA1, RNA2, and RNA3, respectively. RT was carried out as described above. PCR was performed in a 20-μl reaction containing 2 μl cDNA, 1× Taq reaction buffer, 1.5 mM MgCl2, 0.2 mM dNTPs, 0.2 μM of forward and reverse primers, and 1 U Taq polymerase (Promega, Madison, WI). The PCR amplification cycle was identical for the three primer pairs: denaturation (95°C for 3 min) followed by 37 cycles of 95°C (20 s), 60°C (30 s), and 72°C (30 s) with a final elongation step (72°C for 3 min). The amplified products were analyzed by gel electrophoresis, stained with SYBR Green, and their identities confirmed by sequencing. The tomato sample was grown from seed imported from the Netherlands where SpLV occurs (4). The virus is of potential importance for the tomato industry because of its symptomless infection and high frequency of seed transmission in many plant species (1,4). SpLV has never been detected in other submitted tomato samples. Consequently, SpLV is not considered to be established in New Zealand. To our knowledge, this is the first report of SpLV in tomato. Abstract:
Language makes human communication possible. Apart from everyday applications, language can provide insights into individuals’ thinking and reasoning. Machine-based analyses of text are becoming widespread in business applications, but their utility in learning contexts are a neglected area of research. Therefore, the goal of the present work is to explore machine-assisted approaches to aid in the analysis of students’ written compositions. A method for extracting common topics from written text is applied to 78 student papers on technology and ethics. The primary tool for analysis is the Latent Dirichlet Allocation algorithm. The results suggest that this machine-based topic extraction method is effective and supports a promising prospect for enhancing classroom learning and instruction. The method may also prove beneficial in other applied applications, like those in clinical and counseling practice. References Blei, D. M., Ng, A. Y., & Jordan, M. I. (2003). Abstract:
Concurrently with the rapid development in digital society, the demand for communication skills was clear in childhood. Early childhood education needs to pay attention to children's speech skills development. This study aims to determine the effect of cognitive style and attachment on the ability to speak in early childhood speech development. The method used is a 2 x 2 factorial comparison design which is divided into two groups namely independent and dependent fields involving 138 samples. Re- search findings about differences in the ability to speak early childhood who have independent field cognitive style and children who have field dependent cognitive style in groups of children with high attachment obtained (A2B1), obtained Q count = 9.39 and Q table (0.05; 4: 10) = 4 , 33. 4). Differences in the ability to speak early childhood who have an independent field cognitive style and children who have a field dependent cognitive style in groups of children with low attachment obtained (A2B2), ob- tained Q count = 4.39 and Q table (0.05; 4: 10) = 4 , 33. Abstract:
Abstract:
The history of parliament: the House of Commons, 1690–1715. Edited by Eveline Cruickshanks, Stuart Handley, and D. W. Hayton. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2002. 5 vols. i: Introductory survey (pp. xvi+958 and CD-ROM); ii: Constituencies (pp. xvi+945); iii: Members A–F (pp. xvi+1,134); iv: Members G–N (pp. xvi+1,052); v: Members O–Z (pp. xvi+962). ISBN 0-521-77221-4. £250.00 (introductory price); thereafter £300.00.The publication of these five volumes represents the eighth contribution to the History of Parliament Trust's record of the House of Commons that now extends to twenty-eight volumes containing nearly twenty million words in over 20,000 pages. According to the Trust's chairman, Ted Rowlands MP, completing these volumes that cover the period 1690–1715 ‘has been a thirty-year odyssey’ (i, p. xi) successively directed by Eveline Cruickshanks and David Hayton as editors and Stuart Handley as associate editor. Their appearance completes the Trust's history of the Commons during the ‘long eighteenth century’ from Charles II's restoration in 1660 to George IV's death in 1820, whilst the periods 1384–1421 and 1509–1603 are covered in previously published volumes. In 1998, all the information contained in the twenty-three extant volumes was incorporated into a single text-file CD-ROM with various electronic search functions. Compiled by a team of fourteen distinguished contributors, the format of the volumes here reviewed follows that of earlier publications by the Trust. The first comprises a masterful ‘introductory survey’ by Hayton that extends to over 500 pages with twenty-seven appendices and confers coherence on the other volumes by enumerating the diverse range of constituency customs, election procedures, membership, organization, and activities characteristic of the Commons between 1690 and 1715. The second contains detailed profiles of the 317 English, Welsh, and Scottish constituencies, whilst the remaining three supply biographical entries of the 1,982 Members who sat in the Commons during this period.

Abstract:
Light localization via reorientation in nematic liquid crystals supports multi-component optical spatial solitons, i.e., vector nematicons. By launching three optical beams of different wavelengths and the same input polarization in a bias-free planar cell, we demonstrate a three-color vector nematicon which is self-trapped thanks to its incoherent nature. Abstract:
The essential oil of the nutmeg plant (Myristica fragrans Houtt) has been obtained from roots, bark, fruit, mace and seeds using Stahl steam distillation. Each essential oil have tested for antioxidant activity with DPPH. Antioxidant activity of essential oil from each nutmeg plant to DPPH with concentration 25, 50 and 100 ppm. Each essential oil did not show strong antioxidant activity but the result of nutmeg isolation had strong antioxidant activity with IC50 that was 80,555 ppm. Based on GC-MS analysis of essential oil of nutmeg isolate obtained myristicin compound with 96.52% area and time Retention 22.127. Myristicin is one of the main components of essential oils of nutmeg plants that play an important role as antioxidants.
