Abstract:
In order to define with precision, the physicochemical characteristics of the architectural ceramic exhumed from the Qal'a of Bani Hammad’s site (inscribed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1980), our study was conducted on a set of ceramics. The first analyses were focused on the color of the glazes, by optical absorption spectrophotometry (also called optical absorbance spectroscopy), on the texture by X-Ray diffraction, and on the elemental composition of the various constituent stages of these glazes and their terra cotta, by scanning electron microscopy and X-Ray fluorescence. Indeed, the study combining optical absorbance spectroscopy and X-Ray fluorescence enabled us to determine the origin of the monochromic green coloring of the glazes in some samples. This coloring can be attributed to the presence of the Cu2+ chemical element; but these glazes darkened due to the high iron content they contain. This could be explained by an intentional addition of iron, in tin-opacified leaded glazes, baked in an oxidizing atmosphere and put on a limestone-rich marlacious paste. The chemical and mineralogical analyses of all shards show that their paste is calcareous. This dataset will be exploitable for re-creation experiments. It also represents a first exploitable referential system, for potential comparisons with other samples belonging to other Algerian sites and different periods of time.

Abstract:
The protection of urban heritage is not an abstract intellectual theory, as it resembles any planning process subject to a set of factors. Those factors are determined in a progressive and continuous way by the actors of this field. If the political decision was considered the main motor of its dimensions and objectives, the technical factor is not less important, it is embodied these dimensions and objectives. In this context this study came to approximate between the Points of View the first and the second the area of conservation the World archaeological site Al Qal?a Bani Hammed in Algeria (PPMVSA). Although their theoretical reference is the same, but technical evaluation has different in determining the protection perimeter, using the geographic information system (GIS) and multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) to systematically and precisely analyse the factors controlling the determination of the archaeological protection area, we are reducing the percentage of biased points of view and we propose an alternative to protection plan based on precise scientific principles and standards.

Abstract:
Archaeological sites are currently considered as one of the most important tourism industry drivers, becoming an autonomous economy. Among the most outstanding archaeological sites in Algeria is the fort of Bani Hammad. This site is the first archaeological site classified by UNESCO in 1980, located in central Algeria in M'sila province. Given its importance, we conducted a scientific study to highlight its beautiful archaeological tourism components and national and international tourist attractions. Then, we revealed the tourism challenges and the physical and moral deterioration affecting this site. Also, we propose a preservation plan to promote this site’s touristic assets, enabling its transformation into a tourist destination competing with other archaeological sites in Algeria and the Maghreb; through a sustainable development plan of archaeological tourism, while preserving its historical identity and role. To this aim, we used a descriptive and quantitative analytical approach, starting with a theoretical and analytical analysis of various studies, plans, and documents related to this archaeological site's components. Then, we analyzed the geographical and statistical data of the tourist traffic over five years using the SPSS statistical program. Finally, we presented the results, developed a rehabilitation plan for the site, and suggested an essential set of recommendations.
