The realization of the process of armed struggle for national liberation in the so called Portuguese Guinea and, consequent unilateral proclamation of the State of Guinea-Bissau in September 1973 was possible from outside the Guinean borders, through an important and strategic contribution made by the Republic of Guinea- Conakry which in 1958 had already achieved national independence. The Republic of Guinea is located on the west coast of Africa at about 11° North latitude. A large portion of Guinea's supply of protein is dried fish. The actual drying method operates under open air, the foodstuff being unprotected from unexpected rains, windborne dirt and dust, and from infestation by insects, rodents, and other animals. More, the deforestation rate is increasing year after year, depleting the source of fuel for drying. Practical ways of drying fish cheaply and sanitarily would be welcome. The present work develops a prototype solar dryer on the basis of natural convection o

The thesis argues for one proposition: 'philosophical assumptions matter'. It uses a contemporary debate about poverty to show how philosophical assumptions matter. The poverty debate pits the Income/Consumption (IIC) approach to poverty against the Participatory (PA) approach to poverty. The philosophical assumptions are epistemological, with implications for methodology, and normative, with implications for conceptions/aspects of well-beinglill-being. It is argued that philosophical assumptions matter in three ways: I) they affect research orientation; 2) they affect conceptual categories in

The increasing rate of human population growth has expanded the human-primate interface, with more conversion of natural primate habitat to agricultural land. It was the aim of this thesis to focus on the Bossou chimpanzees’ (Pan troglodytes verus) perspective of their habitat in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa, the risks and opportunities presented by a human-dominated landscape, and to
