Full textMotivation is a word well known to the world of education, a word which is important in the areas of sports and health. Pupils 'attitudes to physical education are essential, not only for students' education, but also in latter life. The PE teacher is a support and a person who stimulates students to a good attitude towards the subject. The purpose of this survey was to see what role the teacher has when it comes to motivating their students in physical education. Furthermore, I wanted to see what experiences the teacher has, and what methods they use to motivate their students.I used a qualitative research method in the form of interviews. I interviewed six PE teachers where two of them worked in low and middle school and four in secondary school. The informants were four men and two women of different ages and with varied experience in the teaching profession. The results showed that the teacher plays a big role in motivating their students. Through communication, involvement and being supportive the teacher helps their students to develop an interest in physical activity and a joyful experience of movement in general, which can serve as a foundation for a life in which physical activity and health is in focus. Less motivated students often have a lower self-esteem. The teacher can support these students by helping them succeed in exercises and by giving them positive feedback. It is important that the lessons are varied, have different options and levels so that all pupils have the opportunity to experience success. This provides the students with an opportunity to discover activities that they find interesting and enjoyable. Methods to motivate their students are through credit, encouragement, feedback and enthusiasm. Motivated and interested students in physical education are the foundation for lifelong learning.

Full textThe purpose of this essay is to analyse the development of the teacher profession in the upper secondary school during the time period 1960-2000, with regard to the concepts role, status and authority. The investigation has been carried out using a qualitative method with material that has been gathered during interviews with four retired teachers. The analysis has been inspired by the theories of the Annales school as well as the generation and inheritance theories developed by Karl Marx. Our results show that the teacher profession has gone through a number of considerable changes, but also that there are components of the profession that have remained unchanged. In our analysis of the concepts role, status and authority, we have come to the conclusion that the role of the teacher has been the subject of most changes, although many respects of the profession are left unchanged. The status of the profession has also undertaken major changes and decreased severely. Formally, the authority has decreased as well, although in reality a certain authority level can still be perceived.

Full textThe purpose of this study is to describe special education teachers' and principals' experiences of special education teachers' role in school improvement and cooperation between them. The goal is to develop knowledge of how principals in schools can use special education teachers' competence in order to contribute to school improvement. It is a qualitative study and the empirical material consists of interviews. The study is based on theories of phenomenology as I am interested in special education teachers' and principals' views on special education teachers' role in school improvement. The results of the study show that special education teachers' role in school improvement is appreciated by the principals, but do not constitute a large part of the everyday work at school, but mainly consists of teaching students individually and/or in small groups. In the analysis of special education teachers' statements, the importance of the principal's responsibility to prioritize and take part in creating time and forums for special education teachers' work with school development appears. The need for special education teachers to work with school improvement issues from a process-oriented and more long-term project is expressed, aiming at the use of their knowledge and competence as stated in the Graduation Regulations goals and intentions for the special education teacher's mission and role.

Full textThe purpose of my survey has been to find out how pre-school teachers work with the development of children's reading and writing learning. I wanted to find out how educators promote this learning and how they see their own role in this learning. I had the following questions as a starting point: How do educators work to promote children's written awareness? How do educators see their own importance in children's writing and reading development? In order to answer my questions, I did six qualitative interviews to find out about the teaching methods and approaches. I then compared my result with previous research, literature and curriculum intentions on the subject. I found that those children who showed interest had good conditions for learning to read and write while the children who did not show the same interest were considered not to be receptive to this type of learning. Educators did not think it is the pre-school responsibility to teach the children to read and write, but rather something that is supposed to happen at school. This is something that I can see differs from the view in both literature and previous research, where the children are considered both competent and receptive to this type of learning. However, the educators nevertheless considered that they had an important role in the children's reading and writing learning.

Full textThe purpose of the study is to find out how some aphrodisiac teachers in the upper secondary school's aesthetic program work to stimulate group dynamic processes in their teaching. Previous literature on the subject highlights the concepts group and group dynamics, roles in the group, the music-making group and leading a group. Previous research addresses one of the rock and pop teaching paradoxes, that a genre's performer has traditionally been self-taught but is now institutional-taught. Furthermore, different types of teachers are presented. As a method, qualitative interviews are used according to hermeneutic theory and semi-structured interview as an approach to gathering information. Four ensemble teachers at the upper secondary school have been interviewed. As a theoretical starting point, the socio-cultural perspective has been used, which addresses the social interaction in connection with learning. The results chapter explains the informants' view of the leadership role, the importance of group composition and group dynamics. Finally, a comparison and summary of the result is made. In a ranking of the factors that the informants consider to be most important, the pupil's attitude and impetus end up being highest, the leadership role ends second, then level-adapted groups, and lastly various socially designed and adapted groups with forgiving or demanding climates. In the discussion chapter, there is a clear focus on the leadership role, and all interviewees have had different opinions on importance and responsibility. Although they have not agreed on their own significance, they have agreed on the importance of being dynamic as a leader and having the ability to adapt to the group's attitude and musical conditions, as well as the physical conditions such as the size of the number of instruments, etc. There is also a fairly consensus that a low-performing group needs an authoritarian, inspiring and clear leader, and almost completely laundered in the opposite.

Full textIs the Swedish Education Act’s statement of "equal education for all" accurate? This study analyzes the role school principals have with regard to children with ADHD. Are all children given the same opportunities or does it vary? Where does the responsibility lie? Thus the paper looks at both social psychological and leadership-based research to find an answer to its research question. Through interviews with five principals in different municipalities of middle Sweden, the study concludes that the principal's leadership style and their understanding of their own role is the answer. The results suggest that, while the all interviewed principals have the same budget and many of them concentrate on the economic aspect of their work, it is seeing themselves as flexible leaders that allows them to put the students at the centre of focus. One of many conclusions suggested is that leadership characteristics, such as thinking outside the box and seeing students as individuals and not objects, can contribute greatly to the improvement communication and socialization processes among children with ADHD.
Demirel, Hazal.
Arnwald, Johanna, and Sara Lifvergren.
The purpose of this study is to get an insight in the practice of student led parent-teacher conferences. The purpose is also to reproduce an extensive picture of this practice. Our study takes off from the following questions at issue:
• What distinguishes the students’ role as the “leader of the conversation” in a student ledparent-teacher conference and how does the student handle this role?
• What distinguishes the parents’ role in a student led parent-teacher conference and howdoes the parents’ handle this role?
• How are discussions about problems handled?
The method we have used is to listen and transcribe parts of our material, which contains recorded student led parent-teacher conferences, which we have found interesting and relevant to this study. The model for the analysis that we have used is fallanalys. Our model for the analysis and apply analysis to theory, is Conversation Analysis.
Our result shows that the student rarely is allowed to completely act as the leader of the conversation without parents and/or teachers intruding, which sometimes leads to the student defending his or her leadership role. It also occurs that the student gets its role as the leader of the conversation established and re-established by the teacher. The role as the leader of theconversation is sometimes very much connected to a manuscript where the student takes on the role of a speaker and recites out loud. In some cases, our result shows that the student abdicates from his or her leadership role in the conversation. Our result also shows that the parents’ task of formulating goals and writing them down, as mandated by the student, contains a certain amount of insecurity. We have found that the teacher sometimes take over this assignment from the parents. Writing, as a part of the parents’ new role, is often in focus during the conversations. Some parents also wish, or partly wish, to have the teacher attending throughout the conference. The parents’ ascribe to interpret the written word, which in some cases lead to misunderstanding. Some parents still consider themselves to represent the home and act “legal representative” for the child, even though it is conceivable that this should be absent as part of a student lead parent-teacher conference.Even though all students have the right to at positive conversation does our result show that talk about problems and criticism appears frequently. We have in our material not even once found indications on that a åtgärdssamtal will and should be established.

Full textThis study focuses on orchestral musicians who also are instrumental teachers, and how they approach the interrelationship between the two professions. The study presents two views: how the teacher influences the musician, and how the musician influences the teacher. I have based the study on qualitative interviews with six interviewees, all of whom work as string players and pedagogues. They all have different backgrounds, with various experiences of teaching. As a theoretical background, I have used an approach where master teaching, or the teacher as a coach, is central. Among my findings, I have discovered that the musician becomes more conscious and analytic toward his/her own style of playing, but also towards others as well. The teachers are masters and they possess a high technical level in their playing. Further, I discuss what roles the interviewees may have, and how I can relate their answers to my theoretical background. The interviewees make clear that working as both a teacher and a musician is valuable, but the issue of time can be a problem.

Full textBackground: The school as an institution has existed in various forms for many centuries, and constantly followed the development of society. Regarding the problem of bullying in the school environment, it has been testified as a problem during at least several decades. This despite the fact that the school demonstrates it through active efforts of promotion and prevention. Testimony about the bullying usually comes from people who have been exposed, often long after the violations occurred, and gives us a perspective on the issue. Our intention with this essay has been to illustrate the bullying from a different perspective, by capturing the teachers' experience on the practical work against bullying. Purpose: The overall aim is that by using Goffman's theory about stage, creating a deeper understanding of what teachers in an anti-bullying team at a primary school experience within their work with bullying among students. The issues the study relates to are: 1. How primary school teachers from the anti-bullying team describes their role in relation to students in bullying context? 2. How can Goffman's concept stage, role, actor, audience, teams, setting and set be used to understand the teachers' experience concerning bullying? Method: A qualitative approach has been used with semi-structured interviews in which the analysis of the created data was based on Goffman's dramaturgical theory about the stage and previous research. Results: The results show that the whole group is involved at the bullying between school children, either actively by exercising violation, or passively by encouraging it through positive feedback. This usually occurs beyond the teachers' sight, on stages and at such times the teachers cannot witness. The study reveals that teachers feel they have insufficient knowledge about the problem and a lack of time resources to address the problem. The stage of bullying is framed by the school's governing documents and also by the school's lack of investment in resources and teacher training.

Thesis, Karlstads universitet, Institutionen för pedagogiska studier (from 2013), 2019. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kau:diva-73174.

Full textThe purpose of this study was to examine how preschool teachers’ view their role in physical activities with children, and also how preschool teachers work with the planning of movement activities in the preschool. The study was conducted through a web-based survey aimed at preschool teachers with a preschool teacher’s degree. A total of 113 participants answered the survey. The study used the psychomotor theory to explain and analyze the result that emerged from the study. The results show that preschool teachers view the implementation of planned movement activities in preschool as a very important task, and that teacher-led activities can occur in both planned and spontaneous forms. There is also an attitude among many preschool teachers that children get enough physical activity through the time they spend outside and free play. The results also show that preschool teachers who consider themselves competent regarding physical activity also plan movement activities to a greater extent, while preschool teachers who do not consider themselves adequately qualified plan physical activities to a lesser extent. The results show that the majority of preschool teachers have a positive attitude towards their role in physical activities with children and that it is very important to participate in planned movement activities as well as movement activities initiated by children. Lack of time and other work tasks are considered reasons that may reduce preschool teachers’ participation in these activities.

Full textThe purpose of this essay is to study preschool teacher’s thoughts about the outdoor educational activities and their role as educators in the outdoor area. The study based on qualitative semi-structured interviews with five preschool teachers. John Dewey's theory where learning and knowledge are created through action and experience is used to analyze the collected data. "Learning by doing" is a concept that Dewey coined, to express that people learn with their entire body and mind. The result of this study shows that preschool teacher defined that outdoor activities is so important that they can´t imagine a day without them. They saw almost no negative things about being outdoors, the benefits undoubtedly winning. The educational activities that were done in the yard were extremely few, it was the free play that was most talked about and the educational benefits of it. The perfect role for a preschool teacher in the outdoor activities was considered to be exploratory, present and participative, but also to have a more attentive and persistent role. The intention is to let the children feel free and give them learning opportunities.

Full textThe Swedish school is, especially in the earlier years, a gender-segregated workplace. Particularly in the subject Physical Education in the upper secondary school there are about twice as many men as women working as teachers. Historically the male students have been dominating in both the grades and impact on the content. The purpose of this paper is to try to highlight eventual correlation between the gender of the teacher, gender of the student and thegrade in Physical Education, followed by comparing those results with arts, where men are also in majority among teachers. This writing has a quantitative approach, where the empirical data is taken from the municipality of Stockholm and their database “Hanna”. The statistical analyses show that there is a correlation between the gender of the teacher and the student regarding the highest and lowest grades. Male teachers tend to grade girls higher than female teachers do, juxtaposed to female teachers where boys are graded higher than girls. In grade average we do not find any correlation, nor in between the courses based upon grades.

Full textThe first chapter of the curriculum describes the school’s obligations, which partly implies that students after they graduate, should reason and discuss on the basis of knowledge and ethical considerations express viewpoints and so indicate a critical approach (Skolverket, 2017d, s.13). A critical approach can be developed thru critical literacy. The purpose of this thesis is therefor to study how working teachers in primary- and middle school are working in order to develop critical literacy. The study are based on the research questions: -Within which areas in teaching are critical literacy brought up? -Which tools are used to develop critical literacy? -What do teachers consider is their role in teaching that concerns critical literacy? The thesis is based on interviews with four teachers. The interviews are semi-structured and the teachers have been selected by available range. The result shows that gender, ethic, culture and norms are aspects that the teachers handle in relation to the school subjects art, general science, social science and Swedish. The teachers brought up different types of tools that can be helpful while developing critical literacy, for example discussions, iPads, books, pictures and educational material were mentioned. The results also shows that there are factors that the teachers have to consider and these were the pupils, planning and time for planning and also that they hade to be role models by having a critical approach.

Full textThe purpose of the study is to contribute with knowledge of how some educated Montessori teachers perceive play in Montessori pedagogy. Through qualitative semi structured interviews the participants have shared their thoughts about the meaning of play and their role in children´s play in Montessori preschool. The results show that the teachers have different views of the role of play in Montessori, and a more unanimous view regarding the role of the Montessori teacher. The roles that the participants raise are observer and passive role, guide, active present and supporter as well as the environment as a regular teacher. To understand my result, I have been inspired by the actor-network theory as a starting point, as it relates to the results of the interviews.

Full textWith the help of qualitative interviews, we want to find out what preschool teachers have for wishes and expectations of a collaboration with special educators. Are there any obstacles to good cooperation and what external factors can influence the collaboration? External factors that could affect, for example, may be power structures, professional roles, experience, and the view of what is best for the child. This will be of great importance to our future professional role if we have a better understanding of what is desirable in our professional role. We conducted five group interviews, with 2 to 4 participants. A total of 15 people was interviewed. All informants were preschool teachers in Sweden. The purpose of interviewing preschool teachers is that it is a professional role with great power to influence how preschool works and that it is the responsibility of preschool teachers to plan and collaborate with special educators. We were of the opinion that the special educators had the power to propose how the teachers would work regardless of what the teachers had in mind. This was not in line with the information we obtained, but it was desirable that the special educator could be present in discussions with the guardians as support for all parties involved. A special educator should thus be able to take care of the whole, support teachers and children, give weight and dignity to difficult conversations with custodians, but not be involved in deciding on actual measures. This complexity contributes to the fact that a possible hierarchy of power in pedagogical terms does not in fact affect the cooperation between these occupational groups negatively, but adds positive development.

Full textThe purpose of this essay is to make a knowledge contribution regarding head teachers’ and schools’ decision processes and how these can be understood from an organizational theoretical perspective. A case study was carried out in a so called “F - 9” school (pre-school class and year 1 - 9 compulsory school). A triangulation of the methods observation, document analysis and interviews was used. The theoretical point of departure for the study is organisational the-ory with special focus on decision theory. Two models are used as analytical tools: phases in the decision process and a summary of the decision models used. The role of the head teacher is also an important factor in the analysis. One question in the essay focuses on how the decision processes are carried out and what the head teacher’s role in these are. The results show that most of the information gathered by the head teacher before the decisions is verbal and that few choices between alternatives are made. Decisions are often vague and the decisions made primarily concerns practical questions. Very little in terms of implementation and follow up of the decisions have been seen in the study. The second question asked in the essay is how the decision processes can be described and understood with organisation theoretical and decision theoretical terms and models. The result indicates that it is the incremental decision model that best describe the decision process of the participating school, however, no model is ever a direct reflection of reality and elements of more models can be seen in the study. As the results indicate vague and unclear decision processes, the conclusion is that schools would gain from clarifying the processes for all concerned, there is need to talk about a designed decision process.

Full textBackground: Comprehensive school absence for so-called Home sitting can have major consequences for the student later in life and it can persist right up to adulthood. Students with neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPF) such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are a large proportion of home residents. According to the National Agency for Education, all students, regardless of disability, have the right to leadership and stimulation in the school. The pupil will develop and on the basis of his / her own conditions, they will reach their knowledge development. The school must, under the teacher's responsibility and guidance, offer the support and teaching that the student needs to achieve the curriculum's goals. Aim: The overall purpose is to investigate how teachers work to facilitate students with a neuropsychiatric disability to participate in primary school teaching. Method: Qualitative methodology was used in the study and data were collected by eight semi structured interviews conducted with teachers working with students with neuropsychiatric disabilities in a school context. The result has been analyzed with thematic analysis. Results and conclusions: During the analysis, four themes of the teacher's complex role emerged, Focused on the student's individual needs, Security for the student and Collegial support as important in the teachers' work. Teachers use strategies, clarifying pedagogy, analog and digital teaching aids to facilitate the student with neuropsychiatric diagnosis. Clarifying pedagogy and aids in all honor is important in teaching but it is the teacher's relationship creation to the student with neuropsychiatric disability that makes the student come to school

Full textThe purpose of this study is to get a greater understanding of the perceptions among preschool teachers regarding the term "physical activity" and what they do to stimulate physical activity among preschool children. The method used in the thesis is a field study through observation and a survey. The observations were conducted through observing six preschool teachers throughout the course of a day. After the observations were concluded, a survey was handed out. The collected data was analyzed and categorized by using a theory that outlines five different roles that a preschool teacher take on in connection to children’s play and physical activity. The five roles are "playmate", "guide", "spectator", "parallel playmate" and "activator". The results of this study are that preschool teachers define physical activity differently. Furthermore, all respondents regard physical activity as important. The preschool teachers state that they carry out physical activity together with the children both indoors and outdoors everyday within their working hours. The conclusions drawn are that the observed preschool teachers offer children physical activity to different extents, and also, the roles that the preschool teachers most frequently take on while engaging children in physical activity are "activator" and "guide".

This project focuses on vocal and instrumental performance in a studio and the recording of an audio CD and a music video in order of enhancing the motivation and musical student learning in a professional context. This idea fits the prospects of creating different learning contexts and partnerships with professional musicians (e.g. Adams, 2001), pointing to high levels of motivation and involvement of students. The immersion in the professional context of music is also crossed with outlooks of Green (2002) and Swanwick (1979), referring to the educational potential of the equilibrium between formal and informal processes of learning and musical activities between the creation, audition and performance. The Education Project was developed in EB1/JI, Seixal, and involved a class of 4th grade of the 1st cycle of Basic Education, where it was possible to develop, over 9 weeks, a set of learnings and interactions associated to studio, which culminated with the recording and performing CD and video music. In addition, a qualitative study aimed to an investigating of learnings and perceptions developed by students. The results confirm that the immersion in this professional context of music contributes significantly to a strong levels of motivation that boost the development skills in the areas of personal, social and musical formation. The results still point to validate the dual role of teacher/professional musician, which adopts a multi-faceted approach in many areas and that updates and revises its practices, allowing a bridge between the school context and the professional world of music, creating conditions for apprenticeships to be developed in learning environments and professional stringency.

In this study we have chosen to look at teachers attitude towards pupils with a great need of movement. Are those pupils with extra needs experienced as inconvenient by the teachers? Our aim was also to learn more about teachers views on some of the triggers which causes this behavior among children in school environments and other surroundings. The first part of the study contains previous research in this and similar topics. The second part concerns the teachers role and professionalism and the importance of the school environment. The method that was used in this study was a qualitative method with a hermeneutic aim. We interviewed five teachers about their experiences with pupils with a great need of movement. The teachers that participated in the study have experienced teaching those pupils which have a greater need of movement than their classmates at several occassions. During their career the teachers have found several different strategies to help and support these pupils. In the discussion of this study we discovered the importance of the teachers ability to approach and individualize teaching situations towards the pupils who have great needs of movement.
