This dissertation clarifies two aspects of neutron-star formation and evolution: the formation of neutron stars through the accretion-induced collapse of white dwarfs and the common envelope evolution of neutron stars. In both cases, we utilize a 1-D lagrangean and 2-D SPH hydrodynamics codes equipped with a broad range of physics including neutrino emission, absorption, and transport, general relativity and dense equations of state. We present a model that unifies the cosmic star formation rate (CSFR), obtained through the hierarchical structure formation scenario, with the (Galactic) local star formation rate (SFR). This thesis seeks to investigate the efficiency implications of the operation of the Agricultural Marketing Corporation (AMC) established in 1976 with the aim to succeed where the 'invisible hand' of the market was ineptly presumed to have failed. The thrust of the analysis, however, indicates that policies governing the operation of the markets for foodgrains have been wrongly conceived.
