Abstract:
This investigative thesis provides an overview of the structural and kinematic formation of the Low Tatras in Slovakia. Numerous geological and geomorphological data from previous studies of the researched area were available. These were processed in a graphical user interface ArcMap to produce the Geodynamic map of Low Tatras at a scale of 1:200 000. By illustrating geodetic, geomorphologic, geophysical and other similar data on this map, it was possible to undertake a detailed analysis of the area and allow an assessment of the overall tectonic activity. This revealed two regions with higher than normal stress levels and therefore an associated increase in the risk of future seismic activity.

On this research I analyze the experimental luthier methodologies called Circuit-Bending and Hardware Hacking, which I call Circuito Alterado (Altered Circuits). This methodologies are based in the construction of musical instruments from the reuse of obsolete electronic components. The main goal of this dissertation is to establish contextual relationships between the tree acts involved in the methodologies - to open-up the circuit, to touch it, in the search of interesting sonorities and to multiply it, through concerts, blogs and/or workshops - and cultural issues related to each act.

Abstract:
This thesis in Classical Performance Reception Studies asks how some fragmentary ancient Athenian dramas—a satyr play (Sophocles’ Trackers), and several tragedies (the lost plays of Aeschylus’ trilogy about the Danaids, Sophocles’ Tereus, and Euripides’ Hypsipyle and Alcmaeon in Corinth) have informed some experimental theatre productions since the late 1980s. Between the introductory and concluding chapters, the four central chapters of the thesis analyse, in chronological order of their production, the following new dramatic works incorporating or otherwise responding to the ancient fragments: Tony Harrison’s The Trackers of Oxyrhynchus, which premiered at Delphi in 1988 but was revived in 1990 at the National Theatre; Timberlake Wertenbaker’s The Love of the Nightingale, first performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1989 and, Joanna Laurens’ The Three Birds (Gate Theatre, 2000); Silviu Purcărete’s Les Danaïdes (Avignon, 1996) and, Charles Mee’s Big Love (Actor's Theatre of Louisville, 2000); Tasos Roussos’ Hypsipyle (1997) and, David Wiles’ Hy]ψ[ipyle: A Fragment (Royal Holloway University of London 1997); and Colin Teevan’s Alcmaeon in Corinth/Cock o’ the North (Live Theatre, Newcastle, 2004). The context, content and production styles of each new production are discussed in tandem with the remains of the ancient play available to the modern playwright—papyrus fragments, book quotations, ancient hypotheses, scholarly editions and translations into modern languages of these, vase-paintings, the ancient reception of the classical Greek plays in later literature, other ancient literary sources such as ancient comedy, epic poetry and mythographers’ works, and secondary scholarship on and philological reconstructions of the ancient texts. But in addition to this empirical exercise in the analysis of the process of making new theatre practice from ancient theatrical tatters, I ask why fragmentary plays have proved so inspirational outside the academy over the last three and a half decades; the answers lie in the fragments’ susceptibility to being arranged and interpreted in ways that speak to very modern concerns with the shape of the family, patriarchy, anti- and postcolonial theory, migration and immigration, displacement, diaspora, social class, violence and war.

Al, Shibani Mariam Mohammed Marouf. "Factors impeding organisational change in education : a case study of Tatweer." Thesis, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10443/2917.

Full text
Abstract:
This study investigates the factors impeding organisational change in the public educational sector of Saudi Arabia. It does so to avoid the waste of financial resources by proposing solutions for better management of change in the public education sector. It also identifies the sources of resistance to change, approaches used to control them, and explores the role of internal and external communication in stakeholders’ engagement and in the management of change initiatives. A case study approach was adopted, focusing on the King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Public Education Development Project (Tatweer), the most comprehensive reform initiative introduced in the Saudi educational system to date. Data collection occurred via semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and reviewing documentary evidence. The research used snowball and maximum variation sampling to interview key informants from officials from the Ministry of Education, as well as teachers and head teachers at Tatweer pilot schools and private schools, to provide in-depth insights into the context of change and to explore the factors limiting implementation. The software package Nvivo10 was utilised to aid analysis. This commenced by coding to explore and compare perspectives. Matrices were developed for comparative pattern analysis at the Ministry of Education and school levels. Private schools do not perceive public schools as competitors and competition is not visible between public schools. The analysis of the management of the project revealed several problems surrounding the project’s implementation, particularly insufficient communication, lack of incentives, limited training, and improper resource allocation. Resistance to change emerged due to insufficient communication and incentives. The culture and social norms of Saudi society interfere with effective organisational management. Internal and external communication plays a crucial role in change initiatives and minimising resistance to change. However, in the Saudi public educational system, external communication is limited and tends to be viewed as superfluous, competition between schools does not exist, and external stakeholder participation is minimal. The findings revealed that parents’ minimal involvement impeded the implementation of change initiatives. Schools seldom engage in strategies to enhance student recruitment and without providing incentives, schools are less interested in enrolling additional students, which reduces competition, and consequently external communication remains of marginal importance in Saudi Arabia.

Abstract:
This study investigates the relationship of 4-5 years old children with mobile devices (tablets), taken as elements of culture and instruments of communication and expression. It takes into account that, to a greater or lesser extent, children of the twenty-first century have some kind of contact with digital information and communication technologies (DICT) and that in children's educational landscape some people advocate its use as an educational resource and other condemn the presence of DICT in young children education. However, this discussion seems to be centered on an adult-view, according to which it is the adults who decide when allow the exploitation of DICT by children without, however, considering the interests, needs and potential of little children. From a child's vision as protagonist, this research is a reflection on the ways children handle tablets in DICT. In this context, it is possible to raise the following research question: how children interact with technological devices, especially tablet? This issue motivates the realization of this research, designed in order to investigate the digital literacy process of 4-5 years old children. Such a general purpose unfolds in the following specific objectives: a) to analyze the processes of interaction among peers b) map the play culture considering the tablet use. Methodologically, the work takes brings a qualitative study with intervention research, based on Sociology of Childhood contributions and studies on digital literacy. The research was developed by working with small groups of children from a peripheral public early childhood institution in Maceio city. Children were given tablets in order to verify uses and strategies built by children when handling mobile technology. It was used video recording and field diary for data collection in order to combine image, audio and written record to capture children´s attitudes, expressions and interactions with each other and with DICT. The research findings point to the fact that little children build rich and diverse experience with the digital universe since necessary conditions are provided so that they can explore the tablets with creativity and autonomy. Therefore, it is possible to conclude a revealing movement that children do have an experience repertoire with DICT and their abilities have been disregarded in different contexts by educators, which deprives them from enriching experiences.

The purpose of this work is give some field notes on exploring the idea that a generalized Tate construction tk reduces chromatic level in stable homotopy theory. The first parts introduce the construction and discuss chromatic reduction. The next section makes a computation and gives the duals of L(n) = L(n)1. The last part looks ahead, mentioning how this computation could be extended to finding the duals of Steinberg summands in corresponding Thom spectra of negative representations, L(n)-q, and presents an equivariant loopspace machine. Finally, observations made are pulled together and brought back to compute the base case of the generalized Tate construction, evaluated on a sphere. Results parallel work of A. Cathcart, B. Abstract:
A taxonomic revision of Tatera (Rodentia: Gerbillinae) from tha study area of north-east Africa and Asia is undertaken. The results are discussed in terms of the zoogeography and evolutionary history of the genus Tatera. Five species of Tatera are recognized in north-east Africa; Tatera robusta. T. nlgricauda. T. valida, T.boehmi and T. phillipsi. T. philllpsi isreinstated from the synonymy of T. robusta. T. minuscula from Ethiopia is considered a taxon incertae sedis. A single species, T. indica. is present in Asia. The taxonomic study Is based on the statistical analysis of morphometrlc data, the evaluation of morphological characters and karyological data where available. Intraspecific variation, both non-geographlc and geographic is analysed. Species and their geographical races are defined and their distributions mapped. A matrix of diagnostic characters is included. The palaeontological literature of Tatera is reviewed. The faunal similarities, both present and past, of Africa and Asia are discussed, as are the major climatic and geophysical changes which are known to have occurred in the study area during the late Tertiary and Quaternary. The present day ecological requirements of the relevant Tatera taxa are also assessed. It is concluded that the genus Tatera probably evolved in Africa in the Pliocene and subsequently dispersed into Asia in the Pleistocene, possibly by way of a southern Red Sea landbridge. Evidence cited, includes the presence of fossil Tatera in the Middle Pliocene deposits of East Africa; the occurrence of Asiatic faunal elements in the fossil record of eastern Ethiopia; the presence of subsaharan African mammals in isolated localities in the south-west of peninsular Arabia; sea-bed cores supporting the view that the south of the Red Sea was periodically dry and the absence, to date, of fossil Tatera from palaeontological sites in North Africa and the Near East.

Full text
Abstract:
The topic of this thesis is Tatarstan's post-Soviet leadership, analysed through its politics of Tatar nationalism and Russian federalism between 1992 and 1999. The main question of the thesis is how Tatarstan's leadership has succeeded in maintaining political power and gaining economic wealth without provoking a backlash both from Moscow and the local Russian population. The thesis argues that Tatarstan's leadership succeeded in maintaining political power and gaining economic wealth through promoting neither the civic nationalism of participating citizens in Tatarstan nor the ethnic nationalism of the Tatar nation bound together by common culture and history, but pragmatic nomenklatura nationalism which demands national autonomy for the Tatars as the only formula for Tatarstan's leadership to secure regional stability against ethnic nationalisms of the Tatars and the Russians in Tatarstan and the adverse regional effects of the federal policies. The thesis considers the weaknesses of the Russian federal centre and Tatarstan's civil society as the main factors enabling Tatarstan's leadership to pursue a politics of survival through manipulating Tatar nationalism and Russian federalism. The thesis begins with an introduction setting out the approach and the argument. The first main chapter examines the historical evolution of Russia's relations with the Tatar elites both in the Tsarist and the Soviet periods. Chapter Two analyses the President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev's discourse of Tatar nationalism, and demonstrates how Shaimiev's policies served to Tatarise the leading positions in Tatarstan without a backlash from the Russians. Chapter Three deals with Shaimiev's politics of Tatar nationalism vis-A-vis Moscow before and after the conclusion of the power-sharing treaty between Moscow and Tatarstan in 1994. Chapter Four explores society and culture in Tatarstant o account for the weaknesses of Tatar and Russian ethnic nationalisms. The fifth chapter evaluates the stability of Tatarstan's arrangements with Moscow in terms of the trends at the intergovernmental and interethnic levels. The thesis concludes by showing how Tatar nationalism under Shaimiev has accommodated itself with Russian federalism.

D.M.A.
The purpose of this monograph is to introduce Tatar national music to the Western world by focusing on the influence of Tatar folklore on the first national ballet, quite possibly the most beloved and popular musical work of Tatars to this day. The monograph will include a brief discussion of the history of Tatars, as well as historical background of Tatar folk music and its importance to the development of concert music in Tatarstan. An analysis of characteristic elements of the folk music of Tatars and their influences on the music of the first Tatar national ballet will also be discussed. In my study, I rely on available sources, including books, articles, reviews, dissertations, recordings, and musical scores. I hope my monograph will help to promote Tatar national music and spark the interest of English-speaking scholars and musicians.

Donnellan, Caroline. "Establishing Tate Modern : vision and patronage." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 2013. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/712/.

Abstract:
Tate Modern has attracted significant academic interest aimed at analysing its cultural and urban regeneration impact. Yet there exists no research which provides an in-depth and contextual framework examining how Tate Modern was established, nor is there a study which assesses critically the development of Tate’s collection of international modern and contemporary art. Why is this important? It is relevant because a historic conflict of interests developed within the Tate’s founding organisation which was reluctant to host it. The outcome was that gaps were created in the original National Modern Foreign Collection, which had to be later compensated for within the spaces of Tate Modern. Furthermore, Tate Modern was established by the Tate, in place of a London or national government. Manoeuvring to the position of civic patron was a long process for the Tate, which had been affected by changing political and cultural circumstances. From the organisation’s inception, a complex model of public and private vision and patronage emerged, which was impeded by conflicting national and international agendas. Modernisation and modernity impacted on the organisation through political and cultural necessity, forcing it to adjust to the new social climate. However, the underlying theme in the Tate’s development has been the relationship between culture and commerce. These are the reasons why this thesis examines how Tate Modern was established in the particular way that it was, and why it was re-imagined as a distinct kind of museum of modern art in London, and one that was relevant for the new millennium.

Abstract:

Wright, Nevil Ian. "Ecological impacts of Highveld gerbils (Tatera Brantsii) on a rehabilitated ash disposal site / Nevil Ian Wright." Thesis, North-West University, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/1246.

Full text
Abstract:
Tatera brantsii was numerically dominant in the small mammal community on the plateaux of the rehabilitated ash disposal sites of ESKOM's Hendrina Power Station in 1998 and 1999 (Vermaak 2000). The species seemed well adapted to exploit this environment and, through biopedturbation, had altered the topsoil structure and chemistry. The consequences of this and other activities also affected the rehabilitated plant community of the PFA-dam habitat. Burrowing appeared limited to just under the topsoil layer, and seemed more extensive than burrows of this species in natural ecosystems. The burrow system architecture was mapped and quantified, and localised increases in nitrates, phosphorous and organic carbon in immediately associated substrate were noted. However, this substrate enrichment was transient, and disappeared following the abandonment, and subsequent collapse of burrow systems, when gerbil colonies migrated away from the area. The mixing of soil horizons also resulted in a more homogeneous substrate, which was more friable, and thus drier. The high pH and salinity of the topsoil layer in areas undisturbed by gerbil burrowing, and concentrations of particular elements associated with either the topsoil covering or the ash, were reduced as a consequence of substrate mixing in disturbed areas. Gerbil impacts on the substrate of this habitat seemed to promote pedogenesis, eliminating the sharp distinction between the topsoil covering and the ash below, but the re-exposed ash of the burrow mounds would become subject to erosion, and reduce the effectiveness of the rehabilitation effort. Gerbil activities increased the number of plant species, especially ruderal forbs, comprising the plant community of the PFA-dam habitat, but plant community diversity was not significantly increased. However, numerical dominance by few tussock grass species was diminished , possibly reflecting burial under mounds of excavated substrate. The biomass and cover of some grass species were reduced in areas of gerbil impacts, and plant lifecycles appeared to be completed sooner in areas affected by gerbil activities. These effects may be as a result of the drier substrate produced following the collapse of the extensive network of abandoned burrows. The succession of this plant community towards an underutilised grassland state, the expected outcome of the rehabilitation effort, was minimally affected by gerbil activities. The effects of T.brantsii activities in this PFA-dam habitat were not as distinct as the effects noted by other authors studying fossorial rodent impacts in less disturbed habitats. This could be because further disturbances in this habitat would merely add to the currently disturbed state, whereas disturbance in more natural habitats, would show more of a change from the initial state.

Urban Studies
M.A.
My thesis is about one of the most distinctive cities in the Russian Federation - Kazan. In my thesis I focus on the changes that were unfolding in the landscape and structure of Kazan in the post-Soviet period (1991-2000s). The collapse of the Soviet Union produced an immense paradigm shift as combined revival of nationalism and religion swept over Tatar people who in turn have been actively changing the city. In this work I researched how the Tatar religious and national revival affected the landscape and structure of Kazan. I used data such as landmarks, memorials, establishments, institutions and other symbolic, religious or national elements of the city in order to demonstrate the scope of the Tatar urban revival. Additionally, I tried to understand the actual causes and processes that contributed to the revival. Tatar revitalization of Kazan is a complex social phenomenon which reveals many important political and global processes.

Alghamdi, Azzah Hamed D. "Teachers in Tatweer primary schools in Saudi Arabia and interactive white boards : towards a professional development model." Thesis, Durham University, 2018. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/12985/.

Abstract:
This study investigates the use of the Interactive White Boards (IWBs) in primary schools that participated in the Tatweer project in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. It presents teachers' attitudes towards using IWBs, evaluates their approaches in using this technology in classrooms, identifies the problems they encounter, and recognises their IWB training needs. It is a quantitative-dominant mixed method research study that mainly used a sequential explanatory strategy. 587 teachers (301 females and 286 males) completed a self-report questionnaire specially designed for this study, but also drawing on earlier research. Twenty teachers (10 female and ten male) were interviewed, of these seven female teachers were also observed teaching in their classrooms or the learning resources rooms. The TPACK model (Mishra and Koehler, 2006) and the CBAM Levels of Use (LoU) (Hall and Hord, 2006) were used in this study. The findings of this study indicated that teachers within the sample reported a high level of the positive attitudes towards using IWBs in their classrooms. However, the majority of teachers reported that they used IWBs infrequently and only with a few interactive features, indicating that their choices were limited by their current technical capability. Moreover, they presented only a basic knowledge of pedagogy because they mainly used IWBs for whole class teaching. They occasionally varied this, such as when groups of students used the boards. Consequently, most teachers showed a limited range of IWBs use in their classrooms. However, in this study, teachers' experience in using IWBs and the opportunity to receive training were the two important factors to determine teachers' capability in using IWBs. The top three difficulties reported by teachers in this study when using IWBs were the lack of training courses, technical problems, and the lack of assistance and support, which had important effects on their skills and their satisfaction about their level of training. Hence, they tended to depend on themselves or their colleagues to improve their capabilities. Gender differences between male and female teachers were also investigated in this study. These findings were used to design a Proposed Training Model for Teachers (PTMT) to help the transition of new technologies (including IWBs) into Tatweer schools. Theoretical and practical implications arising from this study, limitations, recommendations for improvement, and suggestions for future research are also presented.

Davenel, Yves-Marie. ""Sous le même toit" : affirmation culturelle et intégration citoyenne de la minorité Tatare dans le Kazakhstan contemporain." Paris, EHESS, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009EHES0376.

Abstract:
More than one hundred nationalities make up today's Kazakhstan, a source of pride for the Kazakhstani state, who wishes to be viewed by the international community as amodel for interethnic harmony. The Kazakhstani authorities promote cultural diversity and cultural revival, championing a "multiple re-ethnification" policy, while giving a privileged position to the Kazakh culture. In the menawhile, Kazakhstan's president promotes the idea of a civic nation based on the concept that each ethnic group will pledge allegiance to the new state. The Tatars of Kazakhstan case study highlights the patterns of integration taken by a specific national minority into a young post-soviet multi-ethnic state. The ancient settlement of Tatars gives us the possibility of analysing interethnic relation over a long period of time. Then, it casts a light on present-day strategies of integration. This specificity of the Tatars allows us to understand how ethnic frontier is drawn today. Hence, internal divisions can be analysed, especially between generations, on the perception of ethnicity and on what the future of Tatar nation in Kazakhstan must be. Fieldworks were conducted with Tatars associations striving for cultural revival. Enquiries point out which strategies are used to get access to the public space. Militants strive for the recognition of the right of the Tatars to live in Kazakhstan and the recognition of their own position as actors of interethnic concord. This research tackles the issues of the ways citizenship is being built in a multi-ethnic post-soviet state

Abstract:
School reform is a major concern in many countries that seek to improve their educational systems and enhance their performances. In consequence, many global schemes, theories, studies, attempts, and programmes have been introduced to promote education in recent years. Saudi Arabia is one of these countries that implemented educational change by introducing many initiatives. The Tatweer Programme is one of these initiatives and is considered as a major recent reform. The main purpose of this study is to investigate this reform in depth by examining the perceptions and experiences of the Tatweer leaders and teachers to find out which extent they have been enabled to be innovative, and to examine the types of leadership and decision-making that have been undertaken by such schools. This study adopted a qualitative case study that employed interviews, focus groups and documentary analysis. The design of the study has been divided into two phases; the first phase was the feasibility study and the second phase was the main study. The research sample of the feasibility study was head teachers, educational experts and Tatweer Unit’s members. The sample of the main study was three Tatweer schools, Tatweer Unit members and one official of Tatweer Project in Riyadh. The findings of this study identified the level of autonomy in managing the school; the Tatweer schools’ system is semi-autonomous when it comes to the internal management, but it lacks autonomy when it comes to staff appointment, student assessment, and curriculum development. In addition, the managerial work has been distributed through teams and members; the Excellence Team plays a critical role in school effectiveness leading an efficient change. Moreover, Professional Learning Communities have been used to enhance the work within Tatweer schools. Finally the findings show that there have been major shifts in the Tatweer schools’ system; the shifting from centralisation to semi-decentralisation; from the culture of the individual to the culture of community; from the traditional school to one focused on self-evaluation and planning; from management to leadership; and from an isolated school being open to society. These shifts have impacted positively on the attitudes of students, parents and staff.

Abstract:
This thesis presents a qualitative investigation of the influence of the art institution on the disposition and artistic allegiances of its audiences through an in-depth study of the Tate Gallery and its members. In the The Love of Art Bourdieu and Darbel (1991) emphasise the homology between the dominant social position and disposition of the committed art lover, and the presentation of the art institution. There is no audience, they said, more 'devoted' to the institution than the Society of Friends. How far this devotion translates into the shaping of practices and taste among this audience, and to what extent it is complicated by other factors, particularly social background, social trajectory, occupation and education, is a key question this thesis addresses. This research shows that change in the social composition and artistic allegiances of the membership audience can be seen as indicative of change within the institution and its position in the field. It adopts a field analytical approach and uses a combination of an institutional analysis of the Tate Gallery and semi structured interviews with the members and the staff of the Tate Gallery to investigate their relationship. This thesis updates understanding of this important but often neglected audience. The members are not a homogenous social group, but have changed within the context of aneo-liberal agenda that dominated the development of cultural policy in the UK after 1997. Evidence from this research suggests that over the last 10 years the Tate Gallery has acted as a vehicle for the distinction strategies of cultural intermediaries, adding to the debate around the ability of the art field to constantly create new forms of distinction that work to assert and preserve power.

Abstract:
For a fixed rational prime p and primitive p-th root of unity ζ, we consider the Jacobian, J, of the complete non-singular curve give by equation yᵖ = xᵃ(1 − x)ᵇ. These curves are quotients of the p-th Fermat curve, given by equation xᵖ+yᵖ = 1, by a cyclic group of automorphisms. Let k = Q(ζ) and k(S) be the maximal extension of k unramified away from p inside a fixed algebraic closure of k. We produce a formula for the image of certain coboundary maps in group cohomology given in terms of Massey products, applicable in a general setting. Under specific circumstance, stated precisely below, we can use this formula and a pairing in the Galois cohomology of k(S) over k studied by W. McCallum and R. Sharifi in [MS02] to produce non-trivial elements in the Tate-Shafarevich group of J. In particular, we prove a theorem for predicting when the image of certain cyclotomic p-units in the Selmer group map non-trivially into X(k, J).

Abstract:
Low-paid white-collar workers in the civil service became more and more militant in the 1970s and 1980s. Yet most theories define them as middle class, or consider that there cannot be class struggle in the "non-market" sector, looking at their working condtions, their strikes and their consciousness, we find that they are now part of a new working class in the fullest sense. The thesis also examines the role of the union leadership in stopping militancy, the meaning of internal faction fighting, and the divisions and unities between men and women in these jobs

Abstract:
The previous Head of Digital at Tate, John Stack, argues that digital transformation and the audience’s increasing expectation of participation are the two major changes during the last ten years (Mitchell 2014). This thesis addresses Tate Modern’s use of digital technologies with focus on how audience interaction and participation is facilitated through the affordances of digital technology. Additionally, this thesis examines how Tate’s digital policies corresponds with Tate Modern’s actual practices, online and onsite, regarding audience participation and interaction.  Discrepancies regarding Tate Modern’s practical approach to audience interaction and participation in relation to its policies were identified. The audience was not genuinely invited to participate through digital technologies during the examined period.  Tate Modern, although being a leader in its field, still has some way to go in its digital development and its approach towards the audience before becoming a truly participatory museum.

Abstract:
This thesis work is about an improvement in Tate and Lyle’s Clean-in-Place system. The thesis investigates how the designs around two machines can be constructed to automate its Clean-in-Place system. Alongside, two step-by-step manuals were created on how the machines should be cleaned. Furthermore a cleaning agent were searched for which eliminates the oat residues that Tate and Lyle faces. The study’s focus was to reduce the cleaning time in their closed systems by automating the cleaning sequences and use a more suitable cleaning agent for their type of residues.   The background to the study can be described as a cleaning problem. Tate and Lyle’s Clean-in-Place system is operated manually and is executed twice a month. The cleaning agents in their current situation is sodium hydroxide and nitric acid which is not adapted for the remaining residues that appear in their equipment piping and edges. The problem arises when the monument remains isn’t properly cleared so the production cannot be resumed since contamination may occur. The equipment is disassembled, cleaned by hand and reassembled before the production can be continued.   The purpose of the thesis work is to find the most advantageous way to clean a decanter centrifuge and a separator. A more suitable cleaning agent are examined as well as the economic benefits that can occur at reduced cleaning time. The work delimited from practical construction and planning for an upgraded system.   The result consists of two step-by-step manuals that specifically describes how the machines should be cleaned with a Clean-in-Place system. Subsequently, two designs were developed around the decanter centrifuge and separator. The designs describe the placement of pipes, valves and pumps as well as suggestions for new pipelines that provide cleaning benefits. Examination of more customized cleaning was done as an experiment in the chemistry department at the School of Engineering in Jönköping. The experiment presented as unsuccessful and wouldn’t be repeated because of optimistic planning. Instead, the result was presented as a Pugh-matrix where four supplements based on similar studies were used. With an automated system and a qualified cleaning the production time could be increased by 9, 7 %. The economic change was presented as an investment calculation.
