Zheng, Y. "Three-dimensional mesh generation and visualization for finite elements : principles and practice." Thesis, Swansea University, 1995. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.636734.

Full text
Abstract:
Mesh generation and visualization is a bottleneck problem in all finite element based numerical simulations. The research work reported in this thesis is a step towards integration of a 3D unstructured mesh generation toolkit. Both theoretical and implementational aspects are addressed. The general concepts of mesh generation have been presented. In the light of these concepts, the fundamental aspects of Delaunay triangulation for the unstructured mesh generator have been formulated. Steiner point creation algorithm has been examined by means of numerical experiments with respect to mesh control parameters. Concepts of point spacing tensor and point insertion criterion have been introduced aiming to deal with anisotropic meshes. Surface meshes are created based on 2D geometries by means of coordinate mapping. Triangular and quadrilateral patches in linear and quadratic forms and Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) patches have been used to define surface geometry. The mesh quality improvement has been discussed in terms of parametric plane stretching, diagonal swapping and smoothing procedures. Volume meshes are generated through 3D triangulation and interior point creation based on the surface meshes. Boundary surface conformity is gained <I>via</I> edge swapping, boundary edge and surface recovery, and the robustness of the algorithm has been discussed in a view of the accuracy of geometric judgements. Quality metrics for tetrahedral elements, mesh smoothing technique, visual quality assessment, and adaptivity extension have been discussed. Data conversion between this mesh generator and some existing CAD packages has been considered. Additionally, a scheme of interactive topology specification has been put forward for a 3D multiblock mesh generator. Finally, a finite element visualization facility FEView has been presented. This visualization tool is implemented based upon a object-oriented graphics library, and works as an external module to an interactive program Geomview. Within the FEView, a mesh can be considered as a collection of faces with edges, wire frame, point and element clouds, and the FE analysis results can be visualized <I>via</I> color shading and field icons. FEView provides functions such as domain control, animation control, and local analysis. Numerical results for 2D cases can be shown with 3D effects by using values of the scalar field.

Parkin, Kirsten. "Three is a Crowd: Adultery laws and legal principles in Latin Controversiae." Thesis, University of Sydney, 2020. https://hdl.handle.net/2123/24088.

Full text
Abstract:
In 18 BCE, Augustus proposed a series of social reform laws that significantly transformed the moral landscape at Rome. These laws were nothing short of revolutionary. Among them, the Lex Iulia de adulteriis, made adultery, stuprum and lenocinium, respectively for the first time, criminal offences at Rome. This law had a particularly enduring significance and legacy. Moreover, the law had a sustained salience in the centuries to come, through the passing of imperial rescripts until the third century CE, and its later appropriation in Justinian’s reforms and in the Christian Empire. This thesis argues that approaches to the theme of adultery in the Latin rhetorical exercise of controversiae are underpinned by a rich tapestry of laws and legal principles belonging to Augustus’ Lex Iulia de adulteriis. Since Lanfranchi (1938) and Bonner’s (1949) seminal works, a burgeoning body of scholarship has challenged the view that controversiae are entirely fictitious legal constructs arguing instead that declamation is capable of drawing on aspects of legal reality. But while the intersection between the laws of adultery controversiae and Roman law has been noted, very few studies have made controversiae their main focus. Through a series of three case studies, on Minor Declamation 277 and Calpurnius Flaccus Declamation 2, Minor Declamation 286, and Minor Declamation 275, I contend that adultery controversiae adopt and reappropriate several legal principles and laws dating variously from Augustus’ Lex Iulia de adulteriis in 18 BCE, to the passage of Imperial rescripts issued in addendum to Augustus’ law, in the first and second centuries CE. This thesis highlights the values underpinning both the law and controversiae as it explores these intersections, demonstrating the deep interconnections between controversiae and their Roman cultural context.

Berggreen-Clausen, Maya. "Learning from the intangible : How can learning based on the three pedagogical principles of Integral Education be assessed?" Thesis, Umeå universitet, Pedagogiska institutionen, 2020. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-174544.

Full text
Abstract:
Today, schools wanting to work with Integral Education are caught between security that the traditional system of social reproduction offers parents and children, and the universal needs of a new global education for human change that is trying to emerge. This pull between the expectations of the past and the aspirations of the future, gives little scope for deepening in the present. This dilemma can be observed in Auroville, International township in South India, created for the purpose of experimentation in collective process working for human unity and sustainability. To define the underlying foundations of Integral Education , give clear visibility of its purpose and implementation in TLC, thereby identifying perimeters through which it can be assessed. The following questions are used to answer to the aims of the research: How can Integral Education respond to the universal needs of human change through transformational educational leadership (of facilitators/parents/children) in everyday work with children? How can an education with the aim of individual development and growth be assessed? How can the pedagogical principles of an Integral Education be made visible to gain recognition? The study was done through analysis of filmed material and reflective interviews gathered during an entire school year in one of Auroville’s schools - The Learning Community (TLC). The data collected, was analysed and discussed through a hermeneutic approach, using a three step chain of inference, involving children, parents and teachers, to process the material. The results showed that Integral learning is indeed very tangible, made visible through the pedagogical core areas in the TLC approach and methodology, and exemplified through manifestations that can be observed, and results seen through process over time. It showed that educational leadership is a key both to understanding Integral Education, and working towards recognition based on deeper connection to the practice and its universal intentions.

Majoch, Arleta A. A. "Identifying sources of salience among global asset owners and asset managers : three essays on the principles for responsible investment." Thesis, University of Reading, 2017. http://centaur.reading.ac.uk/73778/.

Full text
Abstract:
The subject of this thesis formed of three essays is the sources of stakeholder salience in the responsible investment (RI) movement. The unifying elements of the essays are the focus on the UN backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) as a voluntary RI code whose salience we examine, and the theoretical framework ofstakeholder salience theory (Mitchell et al., 1997, Gifford, 2012) guiding the analyses. The first essay is an exploration of a confidential dataset of investor self-reporting on the adoption of the PRI. It asks the question: what are the sources of salience of the claim to sign the PRI? The application of the theoretical model in this essay and the findings from it guide the following two essays. The second essay focuses on asset owners as the drivers of responsible investment in the financial industry. It applies the stakeholder salience model to a public dataset to identify the determinants of asset owner endorsement of the principles. The third essay examines the differences between the declared and practical adoption of the principles by asset managers. It compares the sources of salience of the claims to sign and to implement the Principles for Responsible Investment, finding limited overlap. All three studies find evidence of the dynamism of stakeholder relationships, and their distinctiveness between investor types. Highlighted sources of salience include management values, societal and pragmatic legitimacy, normative and utilitarian power, coalition building and relative stakeholder size. The research project makes contributions to stakeholder theory and to the literature studying voluntary sustainability codes, as well as broadening our knowledge of responsible investment and the drivers of its development.

Abstract:
It is a well-known fact among the foreign language teachers that the assessment of speaking is one of the most challenging tasks in the teaching methodology. The reason for that is the lack of proper concepts of the notion &lsquo<br>good speaking skills&rsquo<br>and the assessment tasks that would evaluate the learner&rsquo<br>s ability to communicate efficiently in the real context. The purpose of this study is to investigate the teachers&rsquo<br>and learners&rsquo<br>perceptions and challenges they face when dealing with speaking skills. Data were gathered via four stages &ndash<br>open-ended and Likert scale questionnaires and two semi-structured interviews that were offered to the academics and the students of Middle East Technical University, Hacettepe University and Gazi University. Another aim is to develop a speaking rubric which would generalize the criteria academics and their students consider to be the most important while evaluating oral performance. Both qualitative and quantitative data was analyzed. The Microsoft Excel program was used for analyzing learners&rsquo<br>perceptions about the assessment of speaking in the form of the questionnaire, while content analysis was used in order to analyze the data elicited from the teachers and students through open-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview.

Full text
Abstract:
During winter the sun is in short supply. But research at KTH shows that solar radiation can be facilitated while energy consumption for lighting is reduced. This provided that the buildings are appropriately designed. But, unfortunately, the sunlight is often not taken into account and the results are the opposite. The energy savings depend on good town planning where the daylight is accessible for longer periods of time during the day, both indoors and outdoors. Then, the periods of use for electric light will decrease. This research is one of the first studies which evaluate the savings in energy with electric lighting due to the use of daylight in urban planning. Three different patterns for street layouts are evaluated and discussed in this report. For example, with straight streets it is possible to save approximately 11 % of the electric energy for the exterior lighting compared to a bending street during twilight.   However, it is possible to improve the daylight distribution with geometrical adjustments even along bending streets. Varying the height of the building along the street front and adding openings between the buildings can make for good daylight distribution, like in the strategic straight line format. The energy efficiency of the bending streets can be improved so the loss in energy efficiency compared to a straight street can be reduced from 11 % to 4 %, in a specific case.   The energy savings are not so great that they alone can justify a specific street type. A number of other factors must also be considered, such as architectural style, uniformity and the building system. A long-term goal is practical guidelines for “better” geometry in urban design, taking into consideration the sun and daylight. The construction cost is not higher in such geometries than in conventional designs, since daylight is free. Therefore daylight can open up for new types of settlements with advantages as more space with more outlooks.<br><p>QC 20161028</p>

Abstract:

Abstract:
This cumulative doctoral thesis consists of three papers within the field of empirical financial accounting research. The first paper examines the role of personal characteristics of accounting standard setters in the development of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). It documents that the full set of IFRS exhibited a decrease in the importance of principles relative to rules and an increase in its fair value orientation over time. Changes in IFRS properties are found to be associated with the professional and cultural background of International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) members. The second paper investigates determinants and consequences of erroneous financial reporting under the German financial reporting enforcement regime. The corporate governance of firms detected with erroneous financial reporting is found to differ systematically from that of control firms. Further results suggest that error detection might trigger improvements in firm-level accounting oversight. The third paper uses large-scale survey evidence from German individual investors to explore the determinants of their monitoring behavior. Investors who are less trusting in their fellow stakeholders are found to engage in less monitoring. Furthermore, trust and monitoring are documented to be associated with the stock market exposure and the educational background of investors.

Lando, Massimo Fabio. "Consistency in the international law of maritime delimitation : towards a set of common principles for the judicial establishment of maritime boundaries." Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2017. https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/273171.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the process applied by international tribunals for delimiting Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and continental shelf boundaries under international law. Maritime delimitation is governed by articles 74 and 83 of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which are customary international law. However, owing to the vagueness of such legal provisions, international tribunals have been developing a standard process for delimiting maritime boundaries. The delimitation process has evolved significantly since the 1969 judgment of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in North Sea Continental Shelf. The ICJ re-stated this process in its 2009 Black Sea judgment as being constituted of three stages: first, an equidistance line is provisionally drawn; second, this line is adjusted should relevant circumstances so require; third, the overall equitableness of the boundary is evaluated by assessing the proportionality between the length of the relevant coast and the marine areas appertaining to each state. This thesis analyses each stage of the delimitation process as re-stated in Black Sea. By way of introduction, chapter 1 outlines the relevant legal provisions and the historical evolution of the delimitation process through the jurisprudence of international tribunals. Chapter 2 discusses both the notions of the relevant coast and of the relevant area, and the practical methods for their identification. Since Black Sea, international tribunals have tended to identify the relevant coast and the relevant area prior to establishing a provisional equidistance line. Chapter 3 discusses the issues concerning the drawing of the provisional equidistance line. Chapter 4 examines relevant circumstances and the methods for adjusting an equidistance line. Chapter 5 discusses proportionality. Using doctrinal legal research methodologies, this thesis aims to assess the degree of consistency in the international tribunals’ application of the three-stage delimitation process. It argues that, while great leaps forward have been made since 1969, there is still a number of unresolved issues, in relation to which this thesis endeavours to provide some workable solutions.

Abstract:
TOWARD A HUMAN RESOURCE TRAINING PARADIGM FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY: a complex and integral approach between EDGAR MORIN E KENNETH EARL WILBER. The aim of the thesis is to improve the way of thinking and practicing human resources training in Italy. There is currently no accepted paradigm but a fragmentation of initiatives. Also it can be said that these initiatives are not tailored to the needs of the twenty-first century. To do this I set out to hybridize Edgar Morin and Kenneth Wilber theories as outstanding representatives of the category of synoptic thinkers. I was forced to incorporate a broad introduction to the Integral Studies, Integral Theory and AQAL framework for the Italian public. The thesis proposes 1) a training-needs analysis of the twenty-first century, 2) a hybridization-grid of the three principles of complex thought with the three principles of the Integral Methodological pluralism, 3) the explanation of the need for a permanent trainers’ training, 4) the hypothesis for a new paradigm. The hypothesis focuses on four phases: PHASE 0 or phase of trainers’ training following Integral Life Practices principles; PHASE 1 or phase of analysis through psychograph and sociograph, levels/states diagram, typologies ; PHASE 2 or listening phase of the client; PHASE 3 or “metabletichs” phase which contains the vertical development on postformal thought, ethical development, post-formal performance, the horizontal development of mindfulness in the waking, dreaming and dreamless state, the development of a “tetrafocale” divided attention on the four quadrants; PHASE 4 or evaluation phase

Abstract:
In many micrometeorological studies, building resolving models usually assumea neutral atmosphere. Nevertheless, urban radiative transfers play an important role because of their influence on the energy budget. In order to take into account atmospheric radiation and the thermal effects of the buildings in simulations of atmospheric flow and pollutant dispersion in urban areas, we have developed a three-dimensional (3D) atmospheric radiative scheme, in the atmospheric module of the Computational Fluid Dynamics model Code_Saturne. The radiative scheme was previously validated with idealized cases, using as a first step, a constant 3D wind field. In this work, the full coupling of the radiative and thermal schemes with the dynamical model is evaluated. The aim of the first part is to validate the full coupling with the measurements of the simple geometry from the 'Mock Urban Setting Test' (MUST) experiment. The second part discusses two different approaches to model the radiative exchanges in urban area with a comparison between Code_Saturne and SOLENE. The third part applies the full coupling scheme to show the contribution of the radiative transfer model on the airflow pattern in low wind speed conditions in a 3D urban canopy. In the last part we use the radiative-dynamics coupling to simulate a real urban environment and validate the modeling approach with field measurements from the 'Canopy and Aerosol Particle Interactions in Toulouse Urban Layer' (CAPITOUL)

Epp, Brent A. "How do principals support implementation of an inclusive school reform?" 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/1993/30299.

Full text
Abstract:
This qualitative study examines how principals support the implementation of the Three-Block Model of Universal Design for Learning (Katz, 2012a), a framework for inclusive school reform. The ways that principals can support inclusive practice may include the way they use systems and structures that fall under their control (Katz, 2012a). Instructional leadership also plays a crucial part in implementing inclusive school reform (Leithwood & Riehl, 2005). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five Manitoba principals involved in implementation of the Three-Block Model of UDL. Principals were asked about leadership and how they manage systems and structures under their control. Recommendations for practice are made, including the need for the school to be organized to support inclusive practice, for principals to make developing people a key task, and for principals to be highly involved in classroom instruction within the school.

Abstract:
碩士<br>中原大學<br>室內設計研究所<br>104<br>Starting late 1950s, accessible environment was rigorously discussed, aiming to provide a standard living environment to disables. This staple concept was gradually spread to other advanced countries which spurs the legislation of Disability Act and led to disability accessible designs. The promotion of disable-accessible museums also emphasizes mental disables to be able to participate and learn as others in museums. Although many museums have abided to the Disability Act and provide accessible construction, they lack the consideration of Universal Design. In today’s society, being able to serve all kinds of audiences is the status quo, and the induction of Universal Design is necessary. Whether it’s indoor or outdoor, elderly, disables, or the healthy, all audiences should be considered to provide a museum environment for everyone. This particular paper analyzes literature and concludes several components for a accessible environment: outdoor structure, indoor structure, and indoor environment. A accessible environment along with audiences’ traits are analyzed and categorized through the idea and research of Universal Design to understand audiences’ physical and mental needs. Major components of Universal Design are gathered and analyzed by observing three museum cases. Museums’ accessible environment is diagnosed for problems by conducting case comparison and surveying audiences for improvement. Observing any presence of adverse situation when audiences are viewing the exhibition helps form the combination of Universal Design and disable-friendly environment.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中山大學<br>國際經營管理碩士班<br>98<br>Nowadays, organizational crisis management is one area in which PR experts truly earn their keep. Accordingly, until 2001, around 50 to 70 percent of the largest profit-making organizations in the United States haven&apos;&apos;t made any disaster plans. In Taiwan, it may not surprise to learn that, nowadays some still failed to put plans in place in anticipation of a catastrophe. As a matter of the fact, there are more examples of organizations getting crisis management wrong than doing it right. When crisis strikes, most companies are unprepared and poorly handle the situation. The overall purpose of this study is to investigate how Taiwanese companies use crisis management principles in handling public opinions at five phases of a crisis: detection, preparation/prevention, containment, recovery, and learning. The research conducted within this study determines how effectively Taiwanese organizations have communicated their corporate value to their stakeholders.

Abstract:
碩士<br>德明財經科技大學<br>資訊管理系<br>101<br>Abstract Because The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) and ArchiMate construct the system and service in the application layer to realize the business process and function in the business layer, the architecture behavior occurs confusedly to the architect. This study uses the three generic principles of the Structure-Behavior Coalescence (SBC) architecture to improve the architecture that cannot be represented by TOGAF Architecture Development Method (ADM). We found that current other architecture models cannot integrate the structure and behavior views well and multiple views of a system. We propose SBC Architecture model language (ADL) to describe the huge-grain, medium-grain and small-grain multiple views of a system. During the architecture evolution process, even baseline and target architecture can evolve via SBC-ADM. This study applies the TOGAF ArchiSurance and iLearning System, created by Dr. Harn, to verify the SBC advantages and help the product conduction of TOGAF, DoDAF, MoDAF, NAF and FEAF.

Sbai, Mohammed Adil. "Modelling three dimensional groundwater flow and transport by hexahedral finite elements." Phd thesis, 1999. http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00006266.

Full text
Abstract:
This research work deals with three-dimensional modeling of groundwater flow and solute transport problems in groundwater aquifer systems, with several complexities, heterogeneities and variable conditions as encountered in the field. Finite element methods are used throughout to solve a range of different problems, using in particular the Galerkin weighted residual approach based on trilinear hexahedral elements. Special emphasis is made on transient and non-linear groundwater flow problems with moving interfaces, such as the water table and the freshwater-saltwater sharp interface. A generalized Fast Updating Procedure technique is developed for these situations, which presents a number of advantageous features in comparison to classic computational techniques used to deal with such problems. One of the important contributions is the automatic construction of the generic soils characteristic curves, which are dynamically dependent upon the overall system water status. Several test examples are successfully worked out for validating this technique in different aquifer configurations, and under different initial and boundary conditions. These test cases show that the proposed method is cheap, numerically stable and accurate. Numerical stability is guaranteed through a developed solver, which is obtained by using state of the art methods for robust preconditioning and efficient numerical implementation. The accuracy is demonstrated by comparison against analytical, other numerical approaches, and laboratory experimental solutions. The usefulness of the method is clearly shown by the application of the 3-D sharp interface finite element model 'GEO-SWIM' to the coastal aquifer system of Martil in the north of Morocco. Several efficient runs are made, leading to a calibrated management model for the study area, giving a clear picture of the salinization risk in the aquifer due to saltwater encroachment. Three-dimensional modeling of solute transport problems in groundwater aquifer systems is equally investigated. It is concluded that the standard Galerkin finite element method is computationally intensive, since the obtained system of numerical equations is very large, sparse, none symmetric and usually difficult to solve with standard iterative techniques. Hence, preconditioning is necessary to improve the convergence behavior of ill-conditioned systems. In this work, we propose an M-matrix type of transformation on the general transport matrix which guarantees the existence of the preconditioning schemes, and hence improves the overall solvers performance and robustness. The usefulness of the method is demonstrated by solving several test examples with different complexities, including hypothetical and field applications in Belgium. Different solvers are tested as the minimal residual method and the stabilized biconjugate gradient method, in combination with different preconditioning schemes, as diagonal scaling and incomplete factorization. It is concluded that M-matrix preconditioning is very simple to implement, and proves to be very efficient and robust. An effort is put on packaging the computer programs, by giving modern visual support to many modules. Therefore, several GUI programs are provided as complementary tools to support the developed models, enabling their friendly use, and the possibility for future extensions.

Full text
Abstract:
博士<br>國立臺灣師範大學<br>三民主義研究所<br>90<br>The study of “all-embracing nature” in the philosophy of “The Three Principles of the People” ABSTRACT “The all-embracing nature in the philosophical thought” refers to the unification of value in the philosophical view. This theory not only tops all the others in thought but also is capable of removing the dualistic confrontation revealed in the framework of a common thought, thus forming a harmonious system of thought. It appears particularly evident in the philosophy of “The Three Principles of the People,” which also shows the characteristic of its succession to Chinese philosophy. In this light, when studying the philosophy of “The Three Principles of the People,” one will find no matter in what aspect one may delve into it– its fundamental theory, its philosophical position or contribution, a definite answer seems able to be furnished through “the all-embracing nature in philosophical thought.” In other words, probing into “The Three Principles of the People,”thought in this perspective, one can grasp its philosophically all-inclusive essence, such as the theories of the unity of comprehension and use, spiritualism and materialism, knowledge and action, objectivity and subjectivity, heaven and humans, body and mind, movement and motionlessness, and human thinking and the heavenly way. In addition, like Chinese philosophy, the philosophy of “The Three Principles of the People” serves to connect metaphysical philosophy with physical philosophy, transforming the philosophical wisdom of the unification of value into practical philosophy. No matter how high standard of morality divinity may achieve, it must be put into practice so that value idealism can be completely realized in the real world and real life to the extent that universal brotherhood and earthly paradise can also be accomplished. As a result, the overall development of “The Three Principles of the People,”thought aims to forestall the defects of dualistic confrontation in western philosophy, creating the all-embracing nature deeply rooted in Chinese philosophy. This special quality entertains an ideal of entirely fulfilling itself in real life so as to save the world and life. In short, based on the pursuit of intuitive knowledge, the philosophical view of vigorous practice, people’s livelihood, and the unity of spiritualism and materialism, “The Three Principles of the People,” appears a perfect philosophical system closely connected with and epitomizing, if not dominating, western as well as eastern philosophy. The present dissertation consists of seven chapters and twenty-one sections. The first chapter serves as the introduction to the purpose, the approaches, the research framework of this dissertation, and my motive to write it. The second chapter expounds the meanings of “the all-embracing nature in philosophical thought” and its relationship with the philosophy of “The Three Principles of the People.” The third chapter explores the spirit of all-inclusive nature from the angle of the philosophy of vigorous practice. The fourth chapter deals with the spirit of all-embracing nature shown in the philosophy of the pursuit of intuitive knowledge in Dr. Sun’s thought. The fifth chapter demonstrates the all-embracing nature in the philosophy of people’s livelihood. The sixth chapter looks into all-embracing nature in the unity of spiritualism and materialism. The last chapter concludes with the prevailing fundamental spirit and trait of all-embracing nature found in Dr. Sun’s thought and as long as we believe it and carry it out, the harmonious relationship between heaven and humans and universal brotherhood can be attained. All in all, all the philosophical views revealed in “the Three Principles of the People” have one thing in common: They constitute the most valuable philosophy in the world on account of their all-embracing nature and amount to Chinese philosophical orthodoxy.

Full text
Abstract:
博士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>歷史學研究所<br>103<br>The study focuses on the process of how the Nationalist government promoted the idea of the Three Principles of the People between 1925 and 1937. The Nationalist government’s promotion on the Three Principles of the People has its significance, which reflects its transformation from “the era of transformation” to “age of ism.”&apos;&apos; Using the term “ism-ization” to define this process is to emphasize the characteristics of quasi-religious belief in the Three Principles of the People. People were expected to internally changed by the Three Principles and then deeply believe them, which leads to their obedience to the government. Therefore, the Three Principles of the People was the source of the legitimacy for the Nationalist government, and promoting the Three Principles of the People functioned as an important technique of governance. The content of this thesis falls into three parts to illustrate the historical process of “ism-ization”. The first part demonstrates the establishment of the Three Principles of the People. Sun Yat-sen and the Nationalists formulated “-ism” with theoretical system by making use of all kinds of “proposals” under the challenge from Communism and Socialism. The second part of this thesis discusses how the Nationalist government practiced the Three Principles of the People at the judicial level via legal regulations and practices at both central and local governments. The third part of this thesis approaches from personal level and discusses the official&apos;&apos;s effort to create a life corresponding to the ‘-ism’ and to make people live in the “-ism.” Apart from the discussion of the responses from these conducts, what is more important in this thesis is to portrait the process of how the Nationalist government strived to balance between theory and reality. From historical outcome, the Nationalist government did not achieve its ideal which aims to use the Three Principles of the People to monopolize the ideology of modern China. The Three Principles were regarded as empty dogmas, however, the example of the Nationalist government still established a political model that operates according to this ideology. With the continuation of the ‘age of ism,’ these features had influenced the historical development afterward.

Lee, Henry. "On recent constraints for the minimum scale of a small compact universe with three-torus topology." Thesis, 1993. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/2207.

Full text
Abstract:
We have embarked upon simple tests to gauge the validity of assumptions made by Fang and Liu in their assessment of opposite quasar pairs as a probe of global topology in the universe. Constraints for the scale of a three-torus (T-3) universe obtained from searches of opposite pairs of quasars by Fang and Liu have been claimed as the strongest to date. However, two assumptions involved are shown to be invalid: quasar images are not distributed uniformly across the sky and the observer and the object within the fundamental cell are not coincident. So, detected images of the object are not located back-to-back. We perform two numerical calculations in a simulated survey. A three-dimensional computational lattice with unit volumes was arranged as the model for a small universe with three-torus topology. The first calculation sets coincident observer and object positions within the unit cell while the second calculation places the observer randomly within the unit cell. The computational lattice was surveyed with two by two degree square beams for images of the object and the number of opposite pairs of images was counted. Our results show that opposite pairs of quasars are detected infrequently and that the Fang and Liu limit is overestimated by a factor of ten in probability. To obtain their90% confidence in pair detection probability, their limit underestimates the number of toroidal diameters by a factor of two. Consequently, their claimed lower limit of 200Mpc for the minimum scale of a three-torus universe is reduced by two to 100 Mpc. The absence of many opposite quasar pairs does not constrain the minimum scale of a toroidal universe and any search for opposite quasar pairs is not a useful method to investigate the existence or constrain the size of a possible toroidal universe.

Bowen, Nellie. "Stylistic principles in three chamber works by Bela Bartok with particular reference to the role of the piano." Thesis, 1990. http://hdl.handle.net/10413/8917.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis discusses the following three works composed by Bartok between 1922 and 1938 : Sonata no. 2 for Violin and Piano, Rhapsody no. 1 for Violin and Piano and "Contrasts" for Violin, Clarinet and Piano. Details relating to Bartok's compositional style in the three chamber works are investigated, with particular reference to the role of the piano. The piano writing is not innovative, but the traditional boundaries are extended by means of the melodic idiom, harmonies and rhythms. The thesis considers traceable musical influences viz. folk music and the influence of other composers; form and the tonal-contrapuntal fabric, rhythm and meter, and performance considerations. The value of Bartok's own recordings is addressed with regard to a critical evaluation of Bartok's own interpretation, the importance of the precisely notated scores, the controversial Bartok tempi, the application of rubato and broken chord figurations and Bartok's views on pedalling, articulation and ornamentation. Examples of all the above-mentioned aspects are traced in the three works concerned, and the pianistic style and dynamics and the interaction between the piano and the other instruments are discussed. The three works are compared and Bartok's development as composer of chamber music is traced through this comparison. The existence of Bartok's own interpretation of the Sonata, Rhapsody and "Contrasts", is of particular value to the study and serves as a main point of reference regarding the performance aspect. Using these recordings as a basis, the thesis considers the works from a pianist's point of view and insights are offered into possible problematic areas in performance, in relation to the piano part as well as the ensemble. The knowledge acquired through the preceding analysis of the works assists in a better understanding of the works and ensures an ultimately more successful performance.<br>Thesis (M.Mus.)-University of Natal, Durban, 1990.

Costa, Cláudia. "Three essays on innovation: the moderating roles of reputation for innovation, CSR principles and managerial perceptions of environmental turbulence." Doctoral thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10362/20148.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation examines three moderating effects on innovation. First, the impact of reputation for innovation on corporate and product evaluations in user design products. Secondly, the effect of corporate social responsibility principles (CSR) on innovation capabilities is analysed. Finally, the role of managerial perceptions of environmental turbulence is investigated to understand the impact on the relationship between innovativeness and performance. Two criteria guided the moderators selected. First, moderators were identified by looking at trends in marketing research and practice in the 21st century society. Secondly, by revisiting the work of Peter Drucker along such trends, observing that his ideas are still very much emphasised by today’s marketing scholars. Chapter 1 provides the background for the following chapters. We review Drucker’s insights on the moderators and how they relate to this dissertation. This chapter also sets the definitions that will guide the three essays. Chapter 2 introduces the question of open innovation, particularly how a user design label impacts corporate and product evaluations. This framework is tested in firms high and low in reputation for innovation, in the apparel and fashion industries. Insights were gained on how perceptions of innovation can be hampered (or helped) from a user design label. Chapter 3 analyses in a context of high-tech industries how innovation capabilities are developed for firms that pursue CSR principles. The result is a novel finding on how CSR principles and innovation can be synergistic to export performance. Chapter 4 questions whether the effectiveness of new service success is contingent upon managerial perceptions of the environment in the hotel industry. This essay shows that how managers perceive the environment has implications for resource allocation and consequently to innovation. Chapter 5 provides an overall discussion for managers and theory and leaves suggestions for future research.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺北教育大學<br>教育傳播與科技研究所<br>101<br>Watching television is he most participated leisure activity of adults in Taiwan. And, the theme or issues of trendy drama often initiate the discussion or concern. Providing a short prompted plot or subject as ‘teaser’ by the production unit of trendy drama has been a marketing approach to attract more viewers. Message design refers as a elaborate, refined process on the message to reach it’s goal through motivation, perception, skill and attitude change principles. The study adopted the Keller and Burkman’s 7 motivation principles of message design to explore teasers of three trendy dramas, including My Queen, The Fierce Wife, and In Time with You. The study uses qualitative approach. Researcher analyzes the text of 12 teasers and interviews eight experts and audience to understand what and how those motivation principles were used. Conclusions are as follows: 1. Among the motivation principles, variation and curiosity, need stimulation, challenge level, positive outcome, and namely early interest are the mostly used in the teaser text. 2. The strategies appeared on the teasers of trendy drama are consistent with the motivation principles of message design. 3. The text of teaser will gain audience's attention and will lead to the follow-up watching behavior. 4. The teasers are characterized in its marketing, diversity, and trendiness, and participants felt that the feminist consciousness conveyed in the teasers is similar to the realities. According to the above findings, the following suggestions were made: 1. The motivation principle embedded teasers is crucial to advertise the trendy drama, the production unit should maximize its usage. 2. The design team of teaser producing unit can enhance the expertise of motivation principle of message design to upgrade teaser’s quality. 3. They can invite message design experts to participate in the preproduction.

Cuzzetto, Armando Antonio. "An analysis of the methods and underlying principles of three programmes aimed at imparting multiple language comprehension of the romance languages." Thesis, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/17649.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores the ability to use Inferencing in multiple or simultaneous Romance language acquisition. Utilizing a semiotic approach, the notion or system of Inferencing as a component in the theoretical bases of the methodologies used in EuRom4, Galatea, and EuroComRom is analyzed. The system (in structuralist terms) to which Inferencing is attributed is identified as the ability to use Inferencing in multiple Romance language acquisition, is validated, and the structuralist presuppositions underlying the theories that lead to the methodologies are described as well as a commentary given of their gains and or shortcomings. The aim of the study is to ascertain to what extent each programme makes use of the process and the notions surrounding it as discussed in Carton’s study “Inferencing: a process in using and learning language,” and to attempt an evaluation of their successes or failure in doing so. In Chapter I intercomprehension is defined and its origins and the reasoning behind recent interest in it are explained. We also examine in this chapter the theoretical bases of the programmes to be studied in the rest of our study as explained by Carton’s paper on Inferencing. Chapter II analyses EuRom4, the first programme in this study that demonstrates some of Carton’s theories. The founders of the programme are discussed and a description of the programmes is given, as is the target audience, methodology, theoretical bases, and empirical data relating to the attainment of the proposed objectives. This same format is followed for Chapters III and IV, with the other two programmes analysed, Galatea and EuroComRom. Chapter V analyses the theoretical bases of the methodologies used in all three programmes using a semiotic approach. The similarities and differences between the programmes are given, as is an evaluation of their effectiveness. This chapter suggests that perhaps a different approach be used, to accommodate what is missing and needs to be done in future regarding this type of pedagogy. The thesis concludes by querying what the future holds for intercomprehension, in which a positive response is suggested for an inevitable change in the status quo of traditional language pedagogy.<br>Arts, Faculty of<br>French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies, Department of<br>Graduate

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣師範大學<br>社會教育學系在職進修碩士班<br>92<br>The goal of this action research is to study the practice of integrating the Big6 Teaching Approaches into the instruction of the Three Principles of the People in senior high schools. Being enforced in the freshmen of a certain senior high school in Taipei County, this practice -- both instructors and students follow the guide-lines of the Big6 Teaching Approaches, which contains nine units in a whole. Following a semester-round experimental curriculum, accordingly, instructors and students are required to do paper-writing and curriculum-assessing on the basis of the Big6 Teaching Approaches. The education of information literacy is founded on the theories of teaching with critical thinking, cooperative learning, self-directed learning, constructive learning and independent learning. Also, from the perspectives of instructors and students, this study is to have an insight of the instruction itself as well as its effects, and further to suggest the problems needed to be attended to while the practice is proceeding. The procedure for the study includes the following points: the design of action research, such as the design of unit based and instruction-related activity, and feedback list. Furthermore, instructors should attend, observe, interview, fill up forms and keep records of the on-coming problems, while such an experimental curriculum is being proceeded. Finally, in assessing the effects of this curriculum as a whole, instructors’and students’assessment do play a key role. According to the various records following the action research such as the design of instruction-related activities, feedback lists, interviewing records, and various assessments. The results have been found as follows: (A) To assure the effect of this curriculum , instructors need to have a good grip on their professional expertise and subject-related knowledge, such as the awareness of political and economical issues, as well as the philosophy and know-how of the Big6 Teaching Approaches, which contain the abilities of designing teaching plans, making teaching material, collecting information, processing words, and taking notes. In addition, instructors have to devote themselves and instruct with enthusiasm. (B) In terms of the students’ learning process, it is a developing one, which started with a situation of fuzziness and then shaped into a clear concept. (C) The advantages of such a practice are many, instructors can be aware that the Big6 Teaching Approaches are systematic. Also students can polish their thinking styles. (D) On both sides of instructors and students, they may encounter the difficulties like the deficiency of equipment and material, or even low motivation of students.Based on the above, the research provides the main principles when implementing the Big6 Teaching Approaches and other suggestions concerning curriculum designs, the support needed from the school administration and the appropriate teaching environments, and so on.Here the researchers offer instructors the direction of applying the Big6 Teaching Approaches to diverse subjects and students, and hope that the department of curriculum design and administration can take it into account to enlarge the range or prolong the period of the research on the Big6 Teaching Approaches .
