Abstract:
In writing argumentative essay, the writer should mind complete parts of the essay and other linguistic elements. The two important linguistic elements are theme and rheme. Since theme and rheme are crucial in clause structure, thematic development is regarded important in the development of text. There are three patterns of thematic development proposed by Eggins, i.e., theme reiteration, zig-zag pattern, and multiple-theme pattern. This research states its objective as to analyze the thematic development occurred in students’ argumentative essay. The occurrence of thematic development is analyzed and elaborated into the finding and discussion. This research is a qualitative research. There are 13 essays written by students. The essays are chosen randomly to maintain the objectiveness of the analysis. Those essays consist of 323 clauses. They are analyzed based on the concept of thematic development proposed by Eggins. The analysis of thematic development of the clauses shows that theme reiteration emerges as the most preferable thematic development pattern. It can be seen that 217 clauses (67,2%) in students’ essay are in forms of theme reiteration. 84 clauses (26,0%) of the essay apply zig-zag pattern in thematic development. Multiple-theme pattern comes as the least preferred thematic development pattern. It only comes up in 22 clauses (6,8%) out of 323 clauses. It can be concluded that students understand the way to develop their essays by implementing combination of thematic development. It marks a successful phase of students’ writing skill. Nevertheless, students need writing practice intensively to make their writing skill grow better.

Anderson, Matthew William. "A cross case thematic analysis of systemic leadership development." Thesis, Robert Gordon University, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10059/2137.

Full text
Abstract:
This research examined which factors of influence contributed towards efficacious systemic leadership development, within case studies in the energy and military sectors, and identified and explained common underlying themes and factors which could help formulate future interventions, as well as enhance extant theoretical knowledge. The literature showed that key challenges exist in identifying what contribution leadership development makes to enhancing organisational leadership, and as such, social capital and systemic development. To focus the research, specific definitions were constructed, as to what sort of effective leadership positively impacts upon organisational leadership; which cardinal themes of leadership development traverse interventions, namely Delivery, Contextualisation, Performance, Impact and Values integration; and what constitutes systemic leadership development. A Social Constructivist position was adopted which explains the nature of the phenomena underlying systemic leadership development.

Abstract:
This project has presented a web site (splinteronline.net) as a digital forum to explore stories in all its forms.Stories are at the core of human communication. We use stories to educate, enlighten, and entertain and we actively seek out stories from others. This dynamic narrative exchange takes many forms — conversation, journalism, film, television, radio, literature, Internet — and will continue to expand and endure as new ways of presenting stories emerge. My creative project actively participates in this exchange by offering a forum for users to engage and share their stories with others. Like a barrel catching rainwater, the site serves as a kind of digital downspout that funnels stories into various themes like Grace, Anger, Home, Mother, Solitude, Regret, Jazz, Courage, Justice, Work, and Greed. Each theme is then identified by genre — humor, fact, memoir, fiction, editorial, poetry — to allow users to search for their favorites.

Abstract:
The purpose of this work of development is to provide a proposal on how teachers can engage and motivate more students to strive to achieve the goals in Swedish and history in high school. Based on previous research, various theorists, the curriculum of primary education in 2011 and the new curriculum for Swedish history and form a development that is based on a thematic approach in which literature is central to the theme and where teaching materials are replaced with various diverse elements that movie, museum visits, guest speakers, etc. The theme is called revolutions of the era and deals with 1700 - 1800 with a focus on French Revolution, ideologies and the social currents that result from it. Students work in groups and with three individual tasks. Theme work spans six weeks and a total of 30 hours. The issues were the subject of the essay is: How can you work educationally to get more students interested, engaged and make them feel included in order to seek to achieve the goals? How can we as teachers work pedagogically to have more time with their students? How can one based on different learning theories to create a larger context and give a greater motivation for students in their teaching?

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines the drama of Yusuf Idris (1927-1991), a well-known Egyptian playwright who has made very important contributions to the search for Arab roots, Arab identity, and a new face for Egyptian (Arab) drama.
The analysis of Idris's eight plays (written over a quarter of a century) in the light of Egyptian (Arab) post-1952 social, political, and cultural realities has enabled us to clarify the playwright's ideas and understand why his literary works have occasioned so much discussion and so many polemics.
This study shows that Idris's plays mirror and document the post-Revolutionary Egyptian (Arab) era. They also appeal to the reader's conscience, calling for change and reform. Furthermore, Idris's plays reflect the artistic search for an original Egyptian (Arab) dramatic form, a search the playwright himself provoked. Finally, Idris's plays reveal the author's faith in the true human qualities of the Egyptian (Arab) man and his tremendous potential, which is yet to be awakened and explored.

Abstract:

Organization Development (OD) has been used in a variety of ways to improve organizations both large and small. Interestingly, the institutions that teach and conduct research on organizations have been slow to adopt or utilize OD approaches and practices in their own institutions. This dissertation will use a thematic meta-synthesis approach to examine the case studies that have been conducted in which OD initiatives have been used in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) between 2000 and 2015. It will look to synthesize the main themes of these case studies in an effort to create a new grounded theory of OD practice for HEIs. The study looked at 34 case studies (12 articles and 22 dissertations) that took place at a mixture of public and private universities and colleges in the United States from 2000 to 2015. Using a qualitative thematic meta-synthesis approach allowed the research to uncover the prevailing themes and discuss in a macro sense how OD has been applied to HEIs.

Abstract:
The article deals with the diagnosis of the formation of the information competence components of translators through testing. The use of testing to determine the level of formation of the information-thematic component of the information competence of translators is demonstrated. It has been established that one of the ways to form the information-thematic component of information competence in the aspect of studying terminology can be the use of thematic networks. The development of a thematic network is shown on the example of the thematic network “Electrical equipment”. The stages of test control, which are consistent with the logic of the organization of the educational process and the process of forming the information competence of the future translator according to the scheme of the developed thematic network, have been determined. These stages are the current, thematic, modular, final testing. The main types of test tasks are defined, the combination of which allows diagnosing the level of formation of the information-thematic component of students’ information competence. Criteria and principles for the selection of test tasks for each of the testing stages are proposed. The ratio of test tasks of different types and complexity at the determined testing stages has been developed. The results of an experimental study on the diagnosis of the formation of the information-thematic component of the information competence of future translators by applying the developed integrative testing system using the Moodle platform are presented.

Given the rapid development of digital technologies, the topic of the scientific article we offer is relevant for scientists, journalists, media researchers, visual journalism experts and photojournalists. Modern space is filled with a large number of pictorial materials, which in most cases form specific images, patterns or stereotypes in the mind of the reader (viewer). Also important is the classification of photo used in journalistic publications. That is why there is a need to explore the content and principles of distribution of ideological priorities of photo in the media. The substantiation of scientists about the important place of photography in the modern media space and the future development of visual technologies, which already use artificial intelligence, is relevant.

Abstract:
The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is in the process of modernization, which it expects to achieve by 2035. This requires a national indicator to gauge the progress and level of the country’s modernization drive. This working paper provides an indicator that assesses the progress in the PRC’s modernization journey, and applies this modernization indicator—structured on thematic categories, subcategories, and intersection—to the PRC’s performance, which is then compared with countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the G20. The paper also examines four major policy implications of this modernization for the PRC, which will be more durable and successful if coupled with effective division of labor and synergy with stakeholders.

Wylde, Emily. Value for Money of Social Assistance in Fragile Contexts: Considerations, Evidence, and Research Priorities. Institute of Development Studies (IDS), March 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/basic.2022.009.

Full text
Abstract:
Value for Money (VfM) is an essential tool for balancing difficult policy and programme decisions. While many of the conceptual approaches to VfM and methods for estimation are similar between regular development programming for social protection and humanitarian cash and food assistance, so far these literatures have evolved in fairly distinct silos. There is relatively little work that brings the two strands together. This thematic review provides a conceptual framework for understanding VfM of social assistance in fragile and conflict-affected situations (FCAS). It draws out what is particular to these contexts and identifies key areas for focus. It then reviews the existing literature to identify gaps and point to priorities for further research.
