Abstract:
A library and fine arts educational facility is an educational place to gain knowledge and introduce fine arts. Through observations, the researcher identified issues in Surabaya's libraries, such as the monotonous building structures and unattractive spatial atmosphere. Meanwhile, fine arts facilities lack resources for making art, so the integration of a library and fine arts education facility is necessary in one location. In this building, visitors can not only gain knowledge about art but also increase their creativity by learning while making works of art with artists. It serves as a solution to increase the reading interest index and introduce works of art more widely. The application of a contemporary architectural theme is based on the expressive characteristics of educational and artistic buildings, following current contemporary characteristics. Qualitative research with a descriptive approach depicts the experiences in the field, which were then analyzed using parameters of the function and feasibility of educational and artistic buildings. The design of the library and fine arts education facility applies the contemporary architecture theme to the macro concept of recreational education to provide a special attraction to visitors. The shape design uses an attractive micro concept by giving the building an identity through variations of curved lines, geometric shapes inspired by a book, and bright color combinations derived from mosaic paintings.

Abstract:
Summary This is an attempt at examining Zygmunt Krasiński’s opinions and preferences with regard to the fine arts, a theme many critics believed to be missing from his writings. While putting things right, this article looks at the issues involved in his artistic choices, for example, what works or artists attracted his attention, in general, and to the point of him actually drawing on them in his own work or provoking him to some response (critical, approving, emotional, etc.). Furthermore, the article tries to explore the reasons and circumstances which may account for Krasiński’s interest in a given painting, print, or sculpture. It may have been the work’s theme as in the case of his ekphrasis of Ary Scheffer’s Dante and Virgil Encountering the Shades of Francesca and Paolo Di Rimini, where literary tradition provided the impulse, or the mode of its execution, or the personal ties with its author, or, finally, some other factors, like a current vogue or simply Krasiński’s individual sensitivity. The ultimate aim of all these inquiries is to outline Krasiński’s relationship with the arts (beaux arts) in the context of the aesthetic preferences of the epoch.

Vostrikova, Ekaterina. "Patriotism as a System-forming Principle in the Genre-thematic Paradigm of Fine Arts in North Korea." Scientific and analytical journal Burganov House. The space of culture 20, no. 6 (2024): 135–55. https://doi.org/10.36340/2071-6818-2024-20-6-135-155.

Abstract:
The article considers the theme of patriotism in the fine arts of the DPRK. It is argued that North Korean artists, working within the strict framework of Juche realism, strive to convey the idea of patriotism no matter what they depict and no matter what genre they turn to. The comprehensive direction of “ideological painting”, chujehwa, which forms the aesthetic and content side of the creative process in the DPRK, often levels out the genre division. It is reduced to key plots and motifs, the main task of which is the propaganda of patriotism. The images of North Korean leaders, presented in an inextricable connection with the fate of the nation and the homeland, are analysed as the most striking example of patriotic pathos in the fine arts. The idea of patriotism makes it possible to develop a visual chronicle of the exploits of an individual hero and an entire nation, acting according to a certain “heroic” scheme and corresponding to the canon of selfless loyalty to the fatherland. Moreover, it makes it possible to rethink the military theme in the DPRK painting in an original way. The theme of labour is also subordinated to the concept of love for the socialist homeland, raising everyday life to ideological heights. The fine arts of North Korea attach great importance to the themes of women, motherhood, family, youth and sports, which are used as messengers for patriotism. Even landscape painting, which has deep national traditions, carries a powerful ideological message designed to instil a sense of awe and pride in the viewer, and to strengthen devotion to their country. The equally ancient Flowers and Birds genre, in addition to its aesthetic content, emphasises the theme of abundance, prosperity, and social contentment. Naturally, the poster, being deeply politicised and ideological, also has a patriotic feel. The author concludes that the patriotism motif is central in the fine arts of the DPRK. To artists, North Korean propaganda dictates a vision of patriotic ideas as a standard and unchanging set of themes that they are obliged to reflect in their work.

Abstract:
Purpose: based on the analysis of scientific sources, to identify the peculiarities of the reflection of sumo wrestling in various types of Japanese fine arts and to reveal its role in the formation and expression of the national identity of the Japanese. Material and methods. To solve the research tasks, the following methods were used: historical and cultural analysis - to study the origin and development of sumo wrestling as a cultural phenomenon; art historical analysis - to identify the specifics of sumo reflection in various art forms; iconographic analysis - to study plots, motifs, artistic images related to sumo wrestling. Results: based on the analysis of scientific and methodological information and Internet sources, it was found that sumo wrestling is a unique and distinctive Japanese sport with a long history. It is an integral part of Japanese culture and has a deep cultural and symbolic meaning. Images of sumo wrestlers are often found in various forms of Japanese art - painting, graphics, sculpture, etc. However, a comprehensive study of the reflection of the theme of sumo wrestling in art has not been conducted before. The study of the peculiarities of the depiction of sumo wrestling in art will allow us to better understand not only the sport itself, but also the peculiarities of the worldview and aesthetic preferences of the Japanese people. An in- depth study of the cultural history of sumo through the prism of art will help to present the uniqueness and value of this tradition more clearly. This may interest young people and encourage them to take up sumo wrestling, while the images of legendary sumo wrestlers in painting and sculpture will inspire young athletes to reach the same heights of skill. Conclusions. A study of scientific sources has shown that the topic of sumo wrestling in Japanese fine art is not sufficiently covered. Sumo wrestling has deep cultural roots and symbolic meaning in Japan. Its images can be traced in art from ancient times to the present day. The analysis of works of fine art allows us to trace the evolution of ideas about sumo wrestling and its place in the national culture. Starting from the Kofun period, haniwa figurines depicting wrestlers performed an apotropaic function, scaring away evil spirits. In the Edo period, with the development of ukiyo-e prints, sumo wrestling became a popular theme in the work of leading artists. The images of legendary champions and dramatic scenes of fights attracted viewers. Wrestlers embodied the national ideal of courage and strength. In modern times, artists continue the tradition of depicting sumo, paying tribute to the cultural heritage of Japan. Abstract:
The article analyzes the cultural and historical transformations of the nature of the depiction of the theme of war in fine art. It is noted that art has always responded to changes in worldview paradigms and reflected core value principles of various historical periods of human development. The emphasis of depicting the essence of the war changed from the fixation of specific events that took place in real life to the depiction of generalized metaphorical images with the participation of mythological characters that had no relation to reality and vice versa. In addition, fine art also served as a channel for the sublimation of the psychological experiences of artists who expressed their experiences related to the war through their own works. Thanks to this, powerful ingenious works of art, the relevance of which does not decrease even after several centuries, were created. The article provides a comparative analysis of the nature of the depiction of war in the art of ancient civilizations, antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, baroque, rococo, classicism, romanticism, avant-garde art of the beginning of the 20th century, Soviet totalitarian practice as well as in modern Ukrainian art. Thanks to the research conducted, the essence and nature of the transformations, that took place in these periods, are visualized, and the direct correlation of these changes with the state and nature of culture is highlighted. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the visualization of the theme of war in the Ukrainian fine art of the totalitarian era as well as in modern art. It is noted that Ukrainian artists had creative resistance to totalitarian ideology. This was manifested in the demonstration of the tragic side of war, existential experiences, awareness of the irreversibility of death and the suffering associated with it. Attention is focused on the fact that the topic of the relationship between art and war in the context of cultural studies is rather understudied but in the context of recent occurrences in Ukraine and the world it is gaining more and more popularity, drawing attention of researchers to the analysis of these mutual influences.

This study explores design aspects, such as function, site planning, design, and structure related to the art institute as a basis for design development analysis. The method used is a qualitative method through literature studies and field observations. Literature studies are used to analyze data related to the function of similar buildings and similar themes, namely metaphorical architecture. Field observations are conducted to observe and collect data related to the activities of the Fine Arts and Design Institute. The study concludes that in the design of fine arts and design institutes, creative design is needed through a metaphorical architecture approach. Metaphor architecture was raised as a theme because of the application of the principle of transferring information from one subject to another. The application of this concept is demonstrated by the form of the building mass series and the building facade with the play of secondary skin shapes.

The article, brought to the attention of readers, develops the outlined sections of the author’s report “The Theme of Death and Immortality in the Fine Arts of the Modern and Contemporary Times” presented at the conference of the Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts (November 21-22, 2019). The initiators of the conference explained their choice of one of the global and eternal themes of world art related to the very essence of the existence of humankind and each person by the fact that if ethnologists and culturologists have systematically studied certain aspects of thanatology, the existing extensive art material has yet to be brought together. Of the priority areas proposed by the conference program compilers, the author of this article chooses to say: “There is no death!”: the theme of immortality, resurrection, eternal and repetitive life in art”. The theme of memory, which occupied an important place in the art of the Great Patriotic War, is the subject of research of the published article. It is most fully expressed in such a field of creative and scientific thought of the war years as memorial architecture. Widely held contests for the projects of monuments became a noticeable phenomenon of the artistic life of those years, and the graphic works were included in the valuable fund of Russian cultural heritage. Observing the birth of a new monument, the author of the article notes that memory and remembrance concepts underwent significant changes during the war years. The attitude to memory became an essential measurement of the very concept of memoriality, its worldview, semantic and symbolic content. Identifying the ways of interaction of the perceiving, experiencing, and interpreting consciousness, during which the mythologeme of "return" begins to be realized, a kind of regeneration of damaged cultural tissues takes place, is the purpose of this small study. The review of the archetypal concepts of “Life, Death, Immortality”, these main subjects in the works of literature, fine art, and wartime architecture, allows us to see what significant qualitative changes occurred in the spiritual world of an individual and led to profound changes in the artistic and cultural process in general.

Abstract:
The article regards one of the aspects of the large theme associated with the study of romanticism in the Russian architecture of the end of the XIX - early XX centuries. The authors focus on the «national» branch of the romanticism trend in architecture embodied in two versions known as «Neo-Russian style» and «Northern Art-Nouveaux». As a result of study of some relevant publications and archive materials, it has been figured out to what extent these versions were used in the architectural study practice at the Academy of Fine Arts and at the Institute of Civil Engineers. It is shown, that at the Institute of Civil Engineers the «Northern Art-Nouveaux» aroused an enthusiastic interest, and at the Academy of Fine Arts the «Neo-Russian style» was regarded as more preferable for study. Some brief information regarding the methods typical for these two different versions of the «national» trend in the independent creative practice of the graduates of both schools is provided.

Abstract:
Soviet fine art contains a large number of works with industrial themes, including those devoted to the great construction sites of socialism. The construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) influenced the country’s development not only in economic and social aspects, but also had a direct impact on the cultural background, giving a new impetus to the activity of creative unions and the emergence of works of various types of art. The BAM theme is talentedly reflected in the creative field of Soviet fine arts. The appearance of numerous pictorial, graphic, sculptural, decorative and applied works was facilitated by the travelling format of artists’ work — creative business trips. Artists travelled to BAM construction sites, witnessing and participating in everyday life and holidays. Thanks to their inclusion and immersion in the environment, the masters of fine arts created works of various genres that accurately and vividly reflected the moments of the construction of the railway. Subsequently, the works were presented at various exhibitions. Nowadays, preserved in museum and private collections, they are an invaluable aesthetic and historical contribution to understanding the spirit and character of that era. The study of the activities of the Union of Artists of the USSR (as a whole as a regulator) and its branch represented by the Irkutsk Organisation of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR (as one of the local executors) is essential for understanding the effective mechanism of fulfilling the social order related to the representation of the global events of the 1970s for the Soviet state. The Irkutsk organisation of the RSFSR Union of Artists was territorially connected with the western section of BAM, and the archival documents provide an opportunity to comprehend the peculiarities of the microstructure’s activity in the conditions of the targeted work of the entire Union of Soviet artists on the BAM theme.

Abstract:
In nowadays' explosion of technologies and mediums of communication, there is a recurrence of the pattern of dissemination of the message and of its formative mechanics of meaning, manifested especially in the field of contemporary visual arts and advertising. A comparative analysis of these visual structures of communication could reveal the nature of the interference between the advertising message's subject and theme, and the peculiarities of the meaning specific to the artistic mediums appropriated by the contemporary advertising - namely, the mediums of expression. Targeting the unconventional forms of advertising, as well as the constantly changing relationship of advertising with the technological environments, we will analyze the relationship between the specific expression of the traditional fine arts (graphics, painting, engraving), the contemporary visual arts (such as graphic design, photography, video, or performance), and the characteristics of the message and its meaning in advertising (as expressed in printing, television, or internet). We want to emphasize the importance of these particularities of the visual arts mediums in crafting the communication message, as each of these mediums of expression imposes its expressive mark to the advertising process, decisively influencing the creation of meaning.

Abstract:
This study examines the specifics of the theme of the anti-Japanese war in Chinese art at various stages from the 1930s to the beginning of the XXI century. The key works of graphic artists and painters are selected as the material, which mark the key points of the evolution of the topic under consideration. Images in Chinese art associated with the events of the anti-Japanese War or the "War of Resistance" have been created by artists for more than seven decades, changing and transforming in accordance with political, ideological, socio-cultural and artistic-stylistic factors. This topic is extremely important for the people, since it was she who gave the art of the newly born New China in the XX century a historical dimension, determined the measure of responsibility of Chinese artists to society and partly the aesthetic paradigm of the evolution of the arts. Moreover, it has served and continues to serve as a source of inspiration for new generations of masters of historical painting, especially battle artists. As a result of the analysis and generalization, four stages are distinguished. The first one is connected with the work of wartime graphs, which recorded the most important moments of the confrontation between the two armies and peoples, determining the general realistic orientation in the development of the theme and its iconography. The middle of the century is the time of the establishment of images associated with the anti-Japanese war as the main line in Chinese painting, the appearance of multi-figure subject canvases, including in the battle genre. The last third of the XX century is defined as the period of transition from the glorification of events to the embodiment of the understanding of that war as a national tragedy, as well as the enrichment of romanticized realism with new artistic forms. At the beginning of the new century, artists tended to create large-scale canvases, saturating them with complex symbolic meanings and details. Such changes indicate the continuation of the evolution of the topic under study and its further transformations.

In the pedagogical practice of the I. E. Repin Institute, the diploma work occupied a special place in the training of artists, the work created as a result of practical exercises should embody an understanding of the principles of visual interpretation of the theme, compositional structure and methods of using artistic expression. At the Faculty of Graphics, the assignment could relate to a group of easel works or book illustrations. Since 1943, graduates of the Faculty of Graphics of the I. E. Repin Institute of Fine Arts have embodied the theme of the Great Patriotic War. The easel works tell about the harsh years of the siege (V. V. Kortovich "Leningrad in the days of the siege", A. I. Kharshak "The Heroic Defense of Leningrad", Z. I. Barkovskaya "It was in Leningrad"), about the wartime (V. M. Zvontsov "On the roads of war", V. G. Starov "A series of prints. 1941–1945"). Since 1947, artists have been turning to book graphics based on writings about the war – the poetry of Alexander Tvardovsky, the prose of Emmanuel Kazakevich (V. B. Skvortsov, V. V. Petrova (Schultz), V. P. Sidorov, K. V. Vladimirov, V. R. Ippolitov, V. K. Osechkin, F. F. Makhonin, Yu. N. Lavrukhin). Creative reflection on personal experiences, the formation of a corpus of principles for depicting a certain type of scene, the development of techniques reflecting the realities of the era, the dominance of narrative principles, the effects of documenting phenomena and the influence of aesthetic principles of photography and documentary filmmaking are manifested in the graduation works of graphic artists of the first post-war decade.

This paper examines the factors that cause inconsistency between student interest and teacher implementation of the three themes of “Time for Integrated Inquiry”, through an analysis of a questionnaire survey of Japanese senior high school teachers and students. The results of the study revealed the following. The first theme, “science and technology,” was dealt with by a lower percentage of teachers, in fact lower than the average for all themes, despite the percentage of students interested in the subject being higher than the average for all themes. In terms of arts (humanities and social science) and sciences (natural sciences) courses, both the percentage of teachers experienced in dealing with this theme and also the percentage of students interested in it are significantly higher for science courses than for arts courses, suggesting that the high level of expertise expected of teachers has kept them from practicing the subject. The second theme, “fine arts and physical education,” garnered above-average student interest with potential for comprehensive, cross-disciplinary learning. However, teachers face practical challenges, such as the lack of a theoretical framework for creativity education in the fine arts, which makes them hesitant to develop it into an educational practice. The third theme, “community relations,” saw many teachers have practical experience with the high-priority themes of “town development” and “regional economy” in this survey. This is because teachers emphasize themes related to local areas familiar to students, aligning with the intent of the Courses of Study. However, inadequate measures to increase student interest and motivation have resulted in a disconnect between student interest and the availability of practical experience by teachers.

Title: Site-Specific Art Installation; Entrance of ArtJog “Arts in Common” at Jogja National Museum The art installation serves as an object that fills a space in a building, an imaginary space, or a space in the open air. The installation possesses aesthetic characteristics that defy rigid boundaries in fine art, which are typically considered standard, and it also lacks limitations in the use of media or materials. ArtJog is one of the premier art exhibition events in Yogyakarta, featuring art installations. ArtJog originated from art fairs that always featured a central art installation placed at the entrance, using a concept or theme in line with the ongoing exhibition. ArtJog art installations are non-permanent, so that the exhibition space will be dismantled upon the exhibition's conclusion. The main art installation work at the entrance is essential as an application of the concept and theme that means "there is an ArtJog exhibition" with the function of the workspace in it, as well as being a connecting space between the outside space and the space in the gallery which can be formulated as site-specific art. The elements of site-specific art can be articulated and defined as a special relationship between objects or events and their specific locations. This study will examine the three years of ArtJog to identify the theoretical elements of site-specific art, focusing on the central art installations of ArtJog in 2019, which marked the beginning of the overarching theme "Arts-in-Common", the second year, 2021, and the third year, 2022. The study will conclude by analysing the characteristics of site-specific art.

Categorical content analysis is used for data analysis. The highest-ranking emerging theme is related to the means of educational intervention in the community through art. Artistic education leads to empowerment and emancipation by provoking people to think differently while the exposure to artistic creations has a therapeutic effect and contributes to identifying new ways of action. Artists in the role of teachers feel a responsibility both for the educational process and also for the emotional message that their creative product transmits to the audience.

The study is considered unique and significant for examining the needs of FAHS music education from a different perspective. The research employed a systematic literature review method. A systematic literature review is a structured and comprehensive synthesis of numerous studies using similar methods to identify the most robust available research evidence by experts in the field. The research data sources are the theses on music education in FAHS published in the database of the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) between 2005 and 2023. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study, 159 theses were interpreted by content analysis. It was determined that under the education theme of the theses examined; school, course, material and equipment, student, curriculum, and teacher dimensions were presented. In the discussion section, the codes regarding these dimensions were analyzed and interpreted. When the recommendations were analyzed according to the codes, it was determined that the majority covered issues that should be resolved by the Ministry of National Education (MoNE). Additionally, there are recommendations for the principals and teachers working in FAHS. It is essential that these stakeholders should address and resolve the issues to improve the efficiency of education and increase academic success.

Abstract:
Introduction. This article continues a series of publications dedicated to the 100th year of the Mari fine arts. National neo-romanticism appeared at the late Soviet stage. It is important to clearly identify it and to determine itы place in the process under study. Materials and Methods. The research methods are based on the author’s cultural and archetypal approach. The items of art, archival documents, media publications, catalogs were provided by the museums of the Republic of Mari El. Results and Discussion. Culture of the late Soviet period, as a background of national neo-romanticism, is characterized by an anthropological change, a demand for sincerity and expression of individuality. Within its framework, unofficial art, various forms of artistic escapism arose. The ethnical theme brought the main artistic innovations into the ‘severe style’ of the Mari Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic’s art. Visiting Russian artists, A. S. and B. S. Pushkovs, S. F. Podmarev, A. I. Butov, introduced the concept of “Mari El” into the artistic vocabulary of the Republic, created the iconographic type based on the traditional Birch and Woman archetypes, thereby contributed to the development of the new cultural archetype. National neo-romanticism emerged from the ‘severe style’ and simultaneously formed. Its essence is the poetization of the native culture. Z. F. Lavrentyev implemented it, first, through book graphics to be one of the determinants of ethnocultural reflection. A special role in the development of national neo-romanticism was played by young Mari artists N. V. Toktaulov, I. V. Efimov, I. M. Yamberdov. Conclusion. National neo-romanticism (1970–1980s) is a stage in the development of the Mari national fine arts originated within socialist realism (1940–1980s). But it goes beyond it due to the representations of the essential issues and approaching the archetypal principles of ethnoculture.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the works of the great Soviet and Russian painter, who was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts Anatoly Markovich Znak. Creativity of A.M. Znak is an example of virtuoso historical painting in Siberian fine art. The artistic language of A.M. Znak, organized in accordance with the traditions of European classical painting and the requirements of the fine arts of the socialist era, reveals compositional and expressive techniques innovative for its time, allows the author to create a special image of a fragment of Russian history, giving it not a concrete historical, but a metaphorical meaning. Creative understanding of the Siberian events of the Civil War allows A.M. Znak not only to present them from the point of view of the plot and the formal requirements of the genre, but also to construct through artistic techniques a conflict that is ambiguously resolved in the process of spectator perception of works. The results of the analysis of the works of A.M. Znak related to the historical genre and written on the theme of the Siberian events of the Civil War, assert the enduring ethical value, timeless relevance of the works of historical subjects, as well as the influence of the artistic language of A.M. Znak on the traditions of the Krasnoyarsk school of painting.

Abstract:
The article considers the peculiarities of the viewer's perception of a work of fine art with two different approaches to its content. The first approach is based on the viewer's desire to get an answer to the question: «What did the author want to say?». The second approach keeps the focus of the viewer's communication with the work of art on the question: «What is this work about?». In the first case, the artistic idea of the work is comprehended on a personal level, based on the individual author's interpretation of the image. In the second case, a richer assimilation by the viewer of the artistic idea of the work is possible at the personal, actual-historical and universal levels. The specificity of each approach is considered on the example of the sculptural work "Transformation" by Dashi Namdakov, located on the campus of the Siberian Federal University (Krasnoyarsk). Based on the methodology of the modern theory of fine arts by V.I. Zhukovsky and N.P. Koptseva convincingly proves that both approaches require significant efforts from the viewer to prepare for interaction with a work of fine art. Otherwise, the content of the work will be reduced to the viewer's fantasies about the author and his life or about the theme of the work. Only conscious viewing, perceived as a skill that needs to be specially trained and constantly trained, can guarantee a deep meaningful interaction of the viewer with a work of fine art at its different content levels.

Abstract:
The article provides a comparative analysis of different approaches to the study of Buddhist iconography and objects of religious art: scientific academic and traditional Buddhist. Their main goals and objectives, understanding of the fine art style in art history and the Buddhist tradition are considered. The possibility and necessity of using diverse sources of research, or rather, the complex and multidisciplinary principle of working with cult images of Buddhas, bodhisattvas and deities for the most profound and adequate understanding of them, as well as exhibiting them in a museum or other exhibition space, is argued. The ideal model for the development of such a research methodology, in the author's opinion, is the work of the greatest Buddhist master Gombodorjiin Zanabazar (1635–1723), who combined the qualities of both an artist, a highly educated Buddhist adept, spiritual mentor, and a ruler of the state. The types of written and other verbal sources, as well as the types of objects or visual sources that should be used to reveal the theme of Buddhist artistic creativity are considered. It was also made an attempt to formulate the most urgent tasks and promising directions for researchers of Tibeto-Mongolian Buddhists fine arts.
